My experience with Pool Care Specialists was without a doubt the most unprofessional business interaction I've ever had. They came out and diagnosed a broken heater and advised what parts were needed and cost for repair. I immediately signed the quote and never heard back from them. After a week I called back and they said they forgot to schedule me. Ok no problem it happens. On the day they were suppose to come it was a total no show with no phone call. I call the next day and they said "Oops sorry we forgot...and oh by the way we can't get the parts needed for the fix". Trying to be patient and reasonable I ask if I can get the parts myself can the technician do the install and I just pay for labor. The receptionist said that was completely fine and she would reschedule me. Over the course of the next few weeks I made at least 20 phone calls advising them I had the parts and when could they schedule service. Every time I called it was the same line: "I don't know I'll have to talk the owner but I'll be sure to call you back." Never a single call back. Finally was able to get on their schedule and I got not one, but TWO more no shows on appointments. Doug (the owner) finally calls me about two months later after the initially quote and says "Sorry we don't install parts provided by customers and we don't have time to fix your heater". If they don't want to install parts they don't provide, fine. Just tell me at the start instead of wasting my time. They gave me a quote on February 6 and owner finally calls me on April 7. Do yourself a favor and avoid Pool Care Specialists. There are plenty of other pool companies in the north DFW area that would be happy with your business. read more

While I'm glad to see Pool care Specialists has so many glowing reviews, I can't be one of them. Our pool is 20 years old and thus, when we bought the house, I correctly guesses that there would be pool equipment issues. So, I purchased a warranty through Landmark. That is how I met Doug with pool care specialists. I've had Doug come to our home for 3 separate issues in the last year. Back flow valve broken, pump failed, water heater not functioning were the visits. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to directly communicate with Doug for the repairs. By the last repair, communication was less than regular. I had to text him several times for the repair and then I would not hear back for days. When he did respond, his quotes were much (2x) higher than what the insurance company quoted. When I asked why it was higher and what needed to be repaired, he said he would research it and get back; he didn't. After 2 months of this, I called Landmark and requested a different service person. It was only after contacting the warranty company that Doug called me and promptly fixed the part at the price originally quoted. So, his work holds up and seems to be professionally done. But, like a lot of contractors, his communication and timeliness of replies make doing business difficult. read more

This company took care of my pool for roughly 3 months and they made changes in the pool system without my knowledge and approval. when I asked them to put things back to the original settings they asked me to pay extra. I did not agree with this extra payment as I did not agree with the changes, and the owner JUST WALKED AWAY!! I had an issue with my booster pump for my polaris pool sweep. I called my warranty company and they set up an appointment between 12 - 5 PM with Pool Care Specialists. Mid morning I received a call and said they could be here in 15 mintues. I said that would be great since my pool sweep is down and I have leaves and gunk in my pool. They suggested a new booster pump which that had on hand and proceeded to install it. One trip to Home Depot for a fitting and I was up and running. Gladly paid the home warranty fee and I've got a brand new booster pump that works great. Thanks for the speedy and top notch work. I will definately use them again. read more

I have had a great experience with the pool care specialists. Doug is easy to work with and he responds promptly. He hs been out to our place on two separate occasions and immediately knew what the problem was and fixed it. I tried another pool service and they charged me 125.00 to incorrectly diagnose a problem, and the problem was never fixed. WIth Doug, i have not had any of those issues. An appointment was scheduled for Thursday February 5, 2015. Doug Holcombe, the owner of the business, arrived at the scheduled time. He was able to replace the pool motor on the initial service call. Mr. Holcombe did not have the parts to repair the band assembly (which wasn't discovered until after he replaced the pool motor), but he promised to call me back the following week. Mr. Holcombe followed through, and took care of the band assembly the following week. I give Mr. Holcombe credit for being able to do the repair on the above date given the attendant circumstances. The weather was unforgiving. The temperature was at or near freezing, there was intermittent precipitation, and intermittent wind gusts. The old pool motor blew out the 20 amp circuit breaker, which wasn't discovered until after the installation. Mr. Holcombe suggested I go to my local hard ware store, because he was not able to do it the same day. I replaced the circuit breaker, which only took a few minutes. My pool system was up and running without any problems. Mr. Holcombe called me later on in the evening, to confirm whether the pool system was operational. I really appreciated that follow-up even though I didn't ask for it specifically. I would also note Mr. Holcombe is very personable, and knowledgeable about pool equipment. Mr. Holcombe took the time to explain what went wrong, why it went wrong, and what he did to fix the problem. He really cares about customer service and his profession, and it showed in my experience. If I have any other issues with my pool, I will not hesitate to ask for Pool Care Specialists again. Their services are awful!!! yes, they followed through in the beginning about the changing the motor but when it came to coming every week to get our pool clean, they would leave our pool dirty.I always called to complain that they did not do a good job. Now due to the rain there is mold growing in my pool!!!!!!! When I called and left messages, they would not return them, which I find simply unprofessional. One time they showed up and actually threw our fence key at my husband when he told them he no longer wanted them to clean the pool. WTF?????? To sum up: their professionalism is terrible and their cleaning is shitty. read more

This company was hired to do a warranty inspection for my failing pool pump. He was polite and cordial to me on the phone but was rude and confrontational with my wife. I later learned he reported long term maintenance issues resulting in the pump leak as evidenced by mold and algae around the equipment. If he had bothered to ask me first, I could have reminded him it is normal for homeowners in this area to water their foundations to prevent shifting. Then I could have pointed out that the equipment is on the shady side of the house. This resulted in a small amount of mold and algae. The inspector should have stuck to what he knows instead of making assumptions that are now causing me problems with the warranty company. I have heard that some inspectors find an excuse to "fail" a claim every so often just to look good for the warranty company. The more reputable inspectors just don't work with warranty companies that apply that kind of pressure. Based on this experience, I would have difficulty trusting this company to do any kind of pool work. read more

Terrible service! These guys are horrible! I was forced to use them through a warranty company. The problem was fairly simple, my pump was old and no longer operational. They came out and said they replaced it with a new pump in January of this year, but from day one it never worked right. My pool guy was the first to notice and told me about it but I didn't have time to deal with it because I was working out of town. Then in May my heater manifold sprung a leak and had to be replaced by another company. They noticed that the pump was not operating at full speed and that the wiring was poorly and improperly connected. Now, these jerks will not warranty their service without another fee for a service call and who knows what else. When I spoke with the owner he implied that my pool guy or myself had tampered with the wiring which is really insulting. My pool guy is a great person and very trustworthy and I don't believe he did anything to the unit. The last person to touch the pump was Pool Care Specialists and now they disavow any knowledge or responsibility! So, now I have to find someone else to fix and clean up their mess. They have no integrity or sense of responsibility for their work! I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! read more

I went through three pool companies in the short two years that I owned a pool. The first left my levels high, never mentioned anything to me, and offered no sort of recourse to fixing the issue. The second company charged me quite a bit to drain the pool and start from scratch fixing what the first company had messed up, but otherwise was decent. When they started missing scheduled weekly cleanings, my pool became clogged and a motor burned out, of which they replaced at full cost to me, minus the scheduled cleanings that they missed, so no help whatsoever. Then, I found Pool Care Specialists. After contacting numerous companies for price comparisons, they were the only company to give me a quote quickly and more personalized, rather than just a wide estimate, and were within $5/week of my previous companies. More than the price, though, their service sold me. Doug was readily available to answer my questions over phone, text or email, and even offered to come out to meet me for a more personal touch. I stated my previous issues and he even mentioned that if I needed to drain my pool, they would handle it and not even charge me. I was surprised to get an email every week directly after my service stating levels, filter info, and even notes (such as my water level being low, something missing from the pool, etc). I've never even heard of that kind of service! Sadly, I sold my house and pool and can no longer utilize their service, but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed going with Pool Care Specialists, and you'll never beat the price for the incredible level of service that they consistently deliver!! read more
