Coming from south Louisiana, good gas station food is a must. This store covers that for me. The club sandwich is phenomenal.

The Welcome mat and surrounding floor area where we were seated had scattered crumbs/debri all around them! You shouldn't "judge a book by it's cover," so instead of leaving, I sat down and gave the food a try! Maybe it was an off-day, however first impressions are everything to me and the 101 Kitchen didn't come through with me for presentation yesterday! Food: Very tasty and plentiful; yet it was something about that steak that didn't taste quite like steak or maybe it was the fact that the Steak Exquisite Meal came with flank steak which tasted like a cross between sirloin, ribeye and something undecided! The (2) steaks came on a bed of fried potatoes with an egg for about $30! I'm one and done with this meal! My wife had pork belly bowl in which she didn't like; she sent it back to the kitchen and opted into a chicken and blueberry waffle plate for about $20! The chicken was thick and flavorful as well as the delectable Belgian waffle! We each had (1) glass pineapple juice($4/glass)! We spent $65 total with a tip! They have a full-service bar which might get my patronage later on this year because once again, they have exceptional service! Service: We received very prompt fast service and we're served our food/drink within 15-20 minutes of being seated!

When we were eventually seated and I ordered my burger it came with fries instead of the potato soup. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I didn't have a gluten allergy and fries didn't share a fryer with food that contain gluten. I had to wait even longer for my burger to be remade. Fortunately the food was good and our server was very attentive and communicative. We also talked to one of the managers afterwards and she was very nice and professional. The hosts were for the most part professional, but it did look like they were just standing around doing nothing at times. I don't know if all three of them are supposed to stay at the front desk, but it seemed like maybe at least one of them could have helped out the kitchen staff more to speed things up. I think I will give this restaurant another shot. Just maybe not on a Saturday night.

Becky (on our receipt at Rebecca) provided us with genuine Southern hospitality during our entire dining experience. She was efficient and friendly with many great suggestions regarding food items. I enjoyed the grilled shrimp along with a loaded baked potato and delicious Caesar Salad. The dressing on the salad had fantastic flavor, and it was not drenched in the dressing as some places tend to do. My husband enjoyed the blackened redfish dish which featured shrimp, lump crab meat, tomatoes, green onions, lemon butter, and red pepper flakes. He exclaimed over the fabulous flavors. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious and airy yeast rolls (at least I believe they are yeast rolls) that were accompanied by a decadent and addicting honey, cinnamon butter. Becky brought 4 of them for the 2 of us, and I wish she had not because I could not resist having part of a 2nd roll. We will return soon as we look forward to enjoying their lunch/early dining menu that runs only Monday - Friday!

Recommended (with an *)…read more City Barbecue has a lot going for it, but probably not for the BBQ purist (*). This Ohio-based chain has over 70 locations in the U. S., including six in the Triangle area. All the meats are tender enough, but just don't have that distinctive pit-cooked flavor that I crave. However, when one of their excellent sauces is added, they're really quite tasty. Sauce options include Original, Sweet City, Brush Fire (Actually not all that hot), Swine Wine (like Eastern NC Vinegar) and Low Calorie (why bother?). I found the portions to be ample, the selections varied and the food generally very good. On my first visit I tried the basic Pulled Pork , Baked Beans and Cole Slaw I added a little of each Sauce to some of the BBQ and enjoyed them all. The Beans were tangy and tasty. The Cole Slaw was outstanding - slightly sweet, creamy and delicious. I also sampled the Pulled Chicken with Fried Okra and Sweet Corn Pudding. The chicken was pretty bland, but very good with some of the sauces. The real stars were the sides. The Fried Okra was as good as any I have ever had (with or without the Chipotle Ranch Dressing). It was lightly breaded; slightly crispy but tender. The Corn Pudding was loaded with sugary corn kernels, butter and sour cream. My two favorites are the St Louis Ribs and the Beef Brisket. The Ribs were slightly crusty but tender. I find that three Ribs and a couple of sides are plenty for a filling meal. You can get the Brisket either lean cut or full cut (I prefer the full cut). City's Hush Puppies are crispy, golden and packed with Southern flavor - perfect. Be sure to ask for the 10% military veteran or senior discount (age 62).

Ambiance - 5/5 This location was very clean and orderly - even the restroom! There was plenty of seating inside and outside. The temp within the building was perfect - not to cold or hot. Food - 3/5 Now, for the most important part - FOOD. This is where they fell a little short for me. I ordered: - The Salmon Salad (one of the specials) - The Philly Cheesesteak (one of the specials) - comes with a side (fries) - 5 wings with blue cheese Due to my allergies, I changed out the strawberry dressing for blue cheese and ranch. The salmon salad was pretty good overall. I believe the strawberry dressing would have given it the balance it needed of a hint of sweetness from the fruit. But it was still good. Where things fell short was the cheesesteak. I did it with the wings as take out. The flavors of the cheesesteak were off. I shared it with others and we all said it was a seasoning on the meat or something that didn't go well. It didn't have the taste you are familiar with when it comes to a classic cheesesteak. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't something we would order again - you know things just ain't forever one. This was one for us. It might be something great for someone else. The wings and fries were good. The fries had a good seasoning to them and the wings weren't hard - so all good in our book. We will definitely return to try other items on the menu.
