I was a little harsh in my initial comment. The hosts did say it was going to be a 15 minute wait but it ended up being over an hour with empty tables visible from the lobby. When we were eventually seated and I ordered my burger it came with fries instead of the potato soup. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I didn't have a gluten allergy and fries didn't share a fryer with food that contain gluten. I had to wait even longer for my burger to be remade. Fortunately the food was good and our server was very attentive and communicative. We also talked to one of the managers afterwards and she was very nice and professional. The hosts were for the most part professional, but it did look like they were just standing around doing nothing at times. I don't know if all three of them are supposed to stay at the front desk, but it seemed like maybe at least one of them could have helped out the kitchen staff more to speed things up. I am puzzled as to why this restaurant has such an overall low star rating. Our first visit to Saltgrass Steak House was exceptional - both the flavors of our lunches and our service. Becky (on our receipt at Rebecca) provided us with genuine Southern hospitality during our entire dining experience. She was efficient and friendly with many great suggestions regarding food items. I enjoyed the grilled shrimp along with a loaded baked potato and delicious Caesar Salad. The dressing on the salad had fantastic flavor, and it was not drenched in the dressing as some places tend to do. My husband enjoyed the blackened redfish dish which featured shrimp, lump crab meat, tomatoes, green onions, lemon butter, and red pepper flakes. He exclaimed over the fabulous flavors. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious and airy yeast rolls (at least I believe they are yeast rolls) that were accompanied by a decadent and addicting honey, cinnamon butter. Becky brought 4 of them for the 2 of us, and I wish she had not because I could not resist having part of a 2nd roll. We were greeted at the host stand by a manager with some missing teeth texting on her cell phone who complained to us about her server "bothering her" about when she should come in to work... "I'm going to tell her 3 so that she might actually come in on time". While our server, Tim, was boxing up our food, the same manager came up to him to ask him if he would prefer a "smoke break or a regular break" loud enough for his whole section to hear and then proceeded to call it over her radio too while standing there. The server was clearly embarrassed about us now knowing about a bad habit of his and felt the need to explain himself. Get rid of her. My boys and I were in town for a tournament, and after the competition we wanted a nice celebratory dinner. This place was within walking distance of our hotel and it was a beautiful day, so we walked down to have some steaks for dinner. The inside decor is pretty retro - reminds me of the old school Lone Star/Texas Roadhouse style 90s places. We arrived about 4:45 p.m. on a Saturday and the place was already packed. We had to wait an hour at the bar for a table - we sat down about 5:45. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet with grilled shrimp and sweet potato fries. Got a first course of the Caesar salad and bread rolls. The kids menu was reasonably priced and the portions my kids got were pretty sizeable. My oldest got the sirloin, and my youngest got a burger. The food was delicious all around, although my steak was overcooked for what I ordered (medium rare). Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The long wait was really inconvenient with two kids, but the food came reasonably quickly (10 minutes for the first course, mains served 30 minutes after we sat). If we are back for competition in this area again, we'd certainly revisit. When my son wanted to go here for his birthday dinner I agreed despite having had average experiences in the past. Arrived at 5:45 on a Monday and noted they had early dining specials. Ordered a half rack of ribs on special right away as the deal ended at 6pm. At 6:40 the food arrived. When I asked why it took so long they said the kitchen was hot and they were short staffed. Two felt their meals were prepared well. One felt their steak was tough. I cut up the ribs, took a healthy bite and was met with cold meat. My mom said never eat cold pork. Asked them to heat it up. 15 minutes later everyone is done eating and the ribs have not returned. I asked one of the managers to please remove it from my bill which they did. The tender, beefy steak has a distinct crusty char and is smothered in caramelized mushrooms. Grilled Shrimp is a good option for seafood lovers. The 8 Jumbo Shrimp were juicy with a little snap - just right. The Fried Mushroom appetizer is a real bargain. Plump, earthy mushrooms with a crunchy Parmesan Crust - a real winner. The Queso Fresco with Brisket app was not so good. The queso blanco, brisket, pico de gallo, cilantro, onions and chips sounded interesting; but failed to deliver. We also enjoyed the BBQ Pork Ribs & Shrimp combo. The 5 baby back ribs and 4 grilled shrimp made for a delicious and satisfying meal. Steaks are the stars at Saltgrass, and Ribeye is my steak of choice. The steak, while a little on the thin side, was nicely marbled, rich and buttery - and almost decadent when slathered with melted garlic butter. You can upgrade to a crisp Lettuce Wedge for an additional charge. Saltgrass has an exceptional array of tempting Sides. The crunchy Flash-fried Green Beans are a nice addition to any entree. There's also Asparagus (upchatge, Broccoli. Brussels Sprouts, Fried Onions, Herb Rice and Smoked Mac and Cheese. Potato options include Baked, French Fried and Mashed. One caveat: The menu includes a lot of options that come with an added price. I found that some servers casually recommend these items without mentioning that there is an additional cost. My opinion, if you like Texas Roadhouse or Logans, this is far better. I give Texas Roadhouse a 3 but Saltgrass gets a 5 from me. There isn't much I'd say they could improve when it comes to chain steakhouses. I'd never go to outback over Saltgrass either. Their cocktails are nice and flavorful, I try a new one every time we go. My favorite by far is the grilled pineapple marg. My husband says he's never had a bad old fashioned from there either. Steaks are of decent quality (for a chain), not rubbery and have great flavor. I personally haven't ever received bad service from anyone there either. Im sure there are exceptions not to discredit anyone else's experience but ours have always been good. Whenever Im in the mood for a good steak dinner, I'll go here. While waiting for a table we started with pickle chips and fried mushrooms at the bar. The mushrooms were incredible! They were cooked perfectly with a crunchy exterior and a juicy interior. The pickle chips were similarly perfectly fried and flavored. After finishing the appetizers, our table was ready. Our awesome waiter Titus greeted us and brought waters and complimentary rolls. The rolls were soft and delicious. We weren't fans of the accompanying cinnamon butter so Titus brought us regular butter. We ordered the brisket queso with our entrees. We have had nothing but terrific experiences here. Most recently we went for a Saturday lunch. There was a 20-30 minute wait for a table, but the bar is first-come-first-serve, so bar it was. Did take a few minutes for a Bartender to appear, but he was super busy, and once he did show up he took great care of us. We love Elijah! We had a question at one point and our interaction with the Manager was also terrific. Folks here clearly are proud to take care of the customer. Much appreciated. Food-wise, it's so good! Our salads were cold and fresh with wonderful dressings. Even the croutons were good. Their rolls with cinnamon butter are always melt-in-your-mouth-good. And it seems clean. We were advised that there was a 1.5 hour wait (it's Saturday 5:30pm). Ok it's long but there are comfortable benches inside and some things are worth the wait. The hosts were very rude and rolled their eyes when we said we're ok to wait. Within 10-15 minutes of waiting, we see about 5 employees come huddle behind the hosts and look at their iphones and giggling while some tables are emptying from customers leaving. I'm not a restaurant owner, so I don't know how things work behind doors, but with staff acting like that in the front of the restaurant, I'm going to leave and take my business elsewhere. Worst experience ever waited an hour just to find out that my food was no even ordered

Another successful visit to Saltgrass for a 40th birthday celebration! We were seated very quickly and our waitress Cheyenne came shortly after. Cheyenne was the sweetest...very attentive and she gave my daughter a sticker which I thought was a nice touch since kids can get antsy having to wait. She kept me informed on my order and made sure we had refills,etc. We ordered the fried pickles and they were very good and had a little kick to them. Not overly fried or greasy. For my entree I ordered Pat's Ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a garden salad. The birthday boy ordered the Classic Steak and shrimp with fries and chicken tortellini soup. Our waitress was nice, but not on her game. She asked for our drink orders and didn't ask if we wanted an appetizer. I thought that was customary, we start with the brisket queso, and I ordered a beer and my mom got a mixed drink. We then had to ask to place the order for dinner. When I called to inform the management that night, I was informed they would put a credit in their computer system for the next time I ordered so that I would not be charged the next time. Tonight I reordered the same order and when I arrived they told me they had no record of this happening. I showed them the past order receipt and the manager Shalisa could not have cared less about my poor recent experience and did not honor the credit. The least they could do is put some effort into the interior decor and at least patch the holes in the walls, I am not sure where the profits from the higher than normal priced steaks are going, obviously they are not going back into the dining experience. They do serve some hearty appetizers, the queso fresco comes with a lot of chips and SODIUM, but not much brisket. This one will definitely keep you running back to the bar! I was a bit disappointed in the chuck wagon cheese fries as I was expecting actual fries, not potato wedges. But if you insist on serving potato wedges instead of fries, might I recommend an oil salt and smoked paprika bath to give them some flavor? Cheese and bacon can only do so much for plain potatoes! I felt they served a good steak and controlled the temperature well, but why would any steakhouse that takes pride in their meat serve A1 steak sauce? Instead of slapping yourself in the face, why not serve a house Bearnaise to compliment the meat rather than soiling it. The staff are great and they do travel off the beaten path to provide a good experience. They have an active following in Knightdale, make sure to call ahead for reservations if you plan to dine out.
