Owner, John, literally barred me for simply complaining about operations there. As an owner, you would think he would welcome that, but he doesn't. He supports his staff when they take your beverage away while you're in the bathroom, bring you a beer with 4 inches of head, and have bad attitudes. I decided to stop into PBP's while waiting on my kid to finish up a birthday party. The place was very inviting and my experience was absolutely pleasant. Special shout out to Barb the bartender. From beginning to end my experience was superb. She greeted me with a smile and do everything she could to meet my cocktail needs. She really nailed the appletini, I might add. She highly recommended the Southwestern Chicken Wrap from the menu, and I'm so glad I took her recommendation. Everything came out quickly and I wouldn't up loving everything, one more than the other while being throughly satisfied with everything. When I walked in here, I was pleasantly surprised at how bright and nice it was. I guess I was expecting a dark and dingy dive bar. The wait staff here was welcoming and friendly. There was plenty of room for our group of 8 people. For pub food, the food was pretty good. I really liked the Poor Boy "Italian beef" quesadilla. The giardiniera gave it a really good kick. The Poor Boy pizza was also good. Great place to hangout after a round of laser tag next door at Massacre Haunted House. It was convenient to just walked right over. I pass Poor Boy's every single day and went to it for the first time last week. When we arrived there were a few open tables. Drinks came out pretty fast and our server was very attentive to us. Food came out pretty quick and was pretty yummy. Cheese curds were pretty good as well. I was surprised my margarita was so good, pretty limey but a little weak. Best thing about our visit was my younger brother, jokingly replied "happiness" when she asked if we needed anything else. She brought him a small cup of candy which really brightened his day. (Never too old for candy) Our waitress was so sweet. I'll definitely be stopping in more, great little bar/restaurant. Poor boy's has a simple unwritten motto - you can basically get any dish they make Poor boy style --- which is to say like an italian beef. You want an italian beef? You got it You want your italian beef quesadilla'ed? You got it You want your italian beef pizza'ed? You got it Parking was nice and easy. They have a few decent beers on tap at a reasonable price. We come here for the food. It's a neighborhood bar and hang out type establishment but I'm not a drinker. The food is great, tried multiple things and every time is spot on. They give you soup with the meal orders and the pepper rice they have frequently is amazing! Will order to go a lot of times and it's quick and easy, took advantage of this more during Covid to help support local small establishments. If we eat inside it's also a good time with many TV's tuned into all kinds of sports. Servers all have been there awhile and very friendly with great service. Seriously, A LOT of regulars at this bar. It's good to see that a business has such good customer retention. What's even better is that a non-regular like me gets the same great service as the guys that are there ALL THE TIME. In addition to great service, they have great burgers. Nothing goes better with a few 25oz mugs of beer than a big greasy cheeseburger with fries. Well, now that I think of it, I did have quite a few of those frosty 25oz mugs of beer because they were super cheap. So, maybe the combination of hunger and mass amounts of beer may affected my perception of the actual deliciousness of said burger. Anyway, I'm A-Ok with Poor Boy's. It's a regular bar, maybe leaning towards a dive bar, with a few plasmas for viewing some television networks of the sports kind, and FREE popcorn. Yep, freshly popped popcorn from their popcorn machine compliments of the house. The regulars seemed pretty friendly, and the staff was super friendly. Great service and cheap drinks will always win me over. If you find yourself out in the sticks and near Poor Boy's, stop by, get drunk, and eat a burger. Went to try this place out with friends tonight. Everyone turned around and STARED when we walked in, which should've been our first clue. We went up to the bar with our IDs ready, were ignored for a solid 5 minutes, then the bartender said nastily, "Go sit at your table, and you need to have your IDs out." We promptly left and went to our regular bar. Solid way to get new patrons. Shouldn't have expected any less in Montgomery. Go elsewhere, other places have the nicest bartenders who treat you like family, unlike the hag we encountered here. -100/10. read more

Poor Boys is your basic burbs sports bar. Decent burgers and sandwiches, the specials can save a buck. Some of the waitresses apparently think their job is to strut around and ignore customers, you'll know which ones I mean if you visit. Otherwise- lots of big screen TV's to watch your favorite game. On weekends at least one screen is dedicated to Auto Racing (which is NICE). Most Saturday nights they have Karaoke and O-bomb drink specials. A package liquor store is going in next door to Poor Boy's. What's up with that? read more

This place is no frills, but I recommend it. The complimentary soup was awesome. I ordered the patty melt. It was a large portion. There's free popcorn available if you don't mind the saltiness of it. I'm sure it helps their beer sales. If the waitress yells across the bar for your order, don't be offended. Parking: Easy. Atmosphere: Bright and fun. There were several televisions, gambling machines, and karaoke. The space was well-lit (especially for a bar with no windows). It seemed like a place for locals to have a drink after work with friends and then to sometimes get an easy dinner. You could easily hold a conversation. These are the reasons why our friend chose Poor Boy's for his birthday celebration. Service: The service was decent. Our server had a friendly, familial disposition and broke up our checks. There were times when we wanted something and we had to wait a long time. Food: We were part of a large group and nobody really LIKED their food. Mostly it was okay; however, there was a soup that was universally disliked. M also disliked her sandwich. I think one person liked the fried pickles due to the fact that she asked for a box to bring home everyone else's pickle orders. Drinks: The beer selection was kind of limited. They had very common drinks circa 2000. Think standard macrobrew beer and overly sweet cocktails made with brightly colored pucker. Poor Boy's was over an hour drive for me and it's unlikely that I would ever return. Owner is on premises at all times and quite friendly, which probably accounts for the good quality and pride in ownership is apparent from every angle. We applaud his efforts and consistency. This place is always busy, but if you weren't looking it you might pass it by due to its remote strip mall location. But it's definitely worth your time and money. It's your typical neighborhood bar. Though the first time I ever walked into a bar and the whole bar turned and gave us a look. I've never experienced there before and I've been in neighborhood bars from the southside of Chicago to South Boston. Kinda made us feel like outsiders. I'll blame this on Hawks playoff fever but lord, tone it down a bit. The service was great and the waitress was very attentive. The food was okay. The burger was good but not great. I was a little disappointed that the cheese on my burger wasn't fully melted. It looked like someone just slabbed a slice of cheese on there. The fries were awesome though and I'm not much of a fries eater either. I'll give them another shot though. Hopefully we won't get the evil eye from other patrons. read more

Ordered wings and fries and the waitress completely forgot the fries. My wife mentioned that she needed to take them off the bill and the waitress asked if we still wanted them. Beer was cold and the wings were good but this place will not make my come back to list. Ordered buffalo and wings and did not get any ranch or blue cheese to dip them into. Its a simple bar, with a passable menu. The location is in a nondescript strip mall, with some shuttered stores; so the name fits the overall vibe of the place. Plenty of flat screens on the wall and Sox fans all around. We have been here twice for lunch and each time the food was avg at best and service somewhat spotty. I got the poor boy's burger on grilled rye with bacon cheddar fries (additional $2) and it came with the soup of the day- cream of mushroom. The patty itself was good but the grilled rye was very dry and hard. The fries were not that great either. The soup was basically like hot water and mushrooms. It took a really long time for the food to get to us as well, even though it wasn't that busy in there. The server was really nice though. Overall ok experience but I probably wouldn't go back... =/ Update: Turns out I did go back because my manager wanted to go, haha. This time, I got the special Reuben with fries and chicken noodle soup. The soup was not bad. The Reuben was OK but the bread was completely burnt... you could see the whole crust was black... and the fries were too crispy... and my lemonade was watered down. We have lately been ordering through DoorDash meals from here. Burgers are excellent! Homemade potato chips are crisp and delicious. Tonight we decided to try an entree of beer battered cod and a half chicken dinner with baked potato and garlic bread. The fish entree was to come with two pieces of fish. The meal came with one piece of fish that was skimpy and dry, grayish in color. No garlic bread. Some sandwich roll that was overly toasted. No garlic taste at all. A piece of lettuce, a couple of tomatoes slices and pieces of raw onion. I didn't order a fish sandwich. Also included was a cup of cream of chicken with rice soup. Thick and gloppy with specks of chicken and rice. Horrible! Threw the meal out. The fried chicken was passable but smelled and tasted of old grease. We will reconsider ordering from here again and if we do, it will probably be one of their burgers. They are the best! read more

Food is sub-par. Fish fry was ok. But the service is absolutely horrible. Same woman is always tending bar and is the worst at getting orders or drinks. She's way too busy talking with her friends at the end of the bar. And Heaven help you if you ask her for separate checks, she will stare daggers at you. The Owner John is just as bad. My husband and I stopped in yesterday. Nice, clean interior, plenty of flat screens tuned to sporting events. Place had a decent crowd for a Sunday mid-afternoon. I was surprised to learn the restaurant has been there for years.....we are in the area all the time, did not know it existed. It is in a partially vacant strip mall, easy to miss. I had the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich, my husband ordered a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Both were very large portions, came with fries and soup. We both enjoyed our sandwiches. Service was friendly, maybe a little slow, but the nice lady on duty was covering all the tables and bar almost single handedly and doing a hell of a job.
