I'm a bit of a nacho connoisseur, so on my first visit to Pig Dog Pub I got the Sunday half-price nachos with added sliced avocado - which was also half-price. I figured it was about 2,000 calories - a whole day's worth of food. It was very good, and at $5.50 it was an incredible value. I didn't spot any nacho cheese sauce, just melted cheddar, which is much better for nachos unless they're the ballpark kind where you just dip the chips in a pile of gooey nacho cheese sauce - which also can be very good but is an entirely different thing. The avocado looked to be about half of a medium avocado, very ripe and fresh, and the pico de gallo was also fresh and plentiful. There were enough black beans to balanced the dish, and a huge dollop of sour cream, which for some reason I love on nachos even though they have a bunch of cheese. Of all the restaurant experiences I've had in the last ten years, this is one of only a few that have been outstanding in quality and value. I'll try the Wednesday pizza next - I'm a bit of a connoisseur of that, too, and it's half-price on Wednesday. read more

We used to love this place, the food was good and the service was also good. Lately, however, we have had the misfortune of having 2 separate dining nightmares. To say that we were disappointed is putting it mildly!! The first order of pulled pork sandwiches were so overly salted that we could not finish them. The second meal was supposed to be cheeseburgers,one didn't have any cheese but instead it had a pineapple???? They were overcooked and cold along with the SOGGY fries. The bartender made me a yummy birthday cake shot and I had a very good Bloody Mary. I ordered the Pig Dog sandwich with tots and a house salad. The sandwich is braised pork belly and comes with Swiss and cheddar cheese with a Dijon mustard sauce and a pasilla BBQ sauce. It was topped with apple slaw. OMG it was absolutely delicious. The pork belly was tender and very flavorful. My husband had the BLT wrap and he said it was good. My second time I had the tilapia tacos and those did not disappoint either. Everything we have tried was delicious and we will be going back, especially in the summer when we can take the dogs with. The outdoor seating is a nice size and you can sit in the sun or they have a covered area with fans to keep cool. Service is good. Our second time there we waited a bit for our server and she was training someone. It was ok given the fact they were short staffed. Check them out in you are near by. Don't waste your money. Don't. Burgers are take-a-bite and throw in the garbage. Pizza is worse. I would give a zero star but their Friday fish fry is ok, just don't order the coleslaw as a side. We found this pub on Groupon and were in the area so decided to try it. The cheese curds were sooo good and they gave you a huge portion. My husband liked his burger he said it was juicy and flavorful and my 3 pig sandwich was really good too. I prefer a little barbecue to break up the taste of so much meat but I just asked for some and added it to the sandwich. The fries are hand cut which is my favorite. Our server was young and more interested in socializing with coworkers than attending to tables and when they did show up they spoke soft and fast and took off so you could barely tell them half of what you needed in the first place. I liked the atmosphere. Not fancy but decently clean. They'd do much better if they served burgers that didn't come preformed out of a box from the freezer section. For the prices that are out there to go out for lunch they could at least give you the quality of a $12-$14 burger. This place could be so much better than it is. It'll just take an owner or manager that cares about the customer and not whether or not he hurts the feelings of these younger workers by training them to do their jobs instead of socializing. The electricians did a bang-up job adding 500 ceiling can light fixtures and about 20 TV monitors. Bring your sunglasses. As in the name, the new & the old actually parallel one another when it comes to Pub bar food. I would love to know the story behind the appetizer... "A Wing and a Prayer". I happened to be in the area and looking for a place to have an early lunch. Nice looking exterior with a lot of potential outside seating space. Inside was very spacious with a large bar area and plenty high tables and low tables. My waiter, Matt was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He had some good recommendations and I went with the 3 Little Pig Dogs which is a sandwich with pulled pork, bacon and ham on grilled sourdough. I opted for a side of cheese curds instead fries. I do a lot of bbq at home so I'm fairly picky when it comes to pulled pork. It was kind of mushy and watery. Not sure how it's prepared but it's either frozen and reheated or sits in a steam pan for a while with a lot of liquid. The ham and bacon was good and the grilled bread was perfect. Overall the sandwich was ok. Cheese curds were good. (Not sure cheese curds can be bad.) I'd give this place another try. Their pork belly sandwich (The Pig Dog) sounded really good. I had browsed the menu and thought it seemed a bit pricey still my friend Bob ate there once, gave it a thumbs up and I thought, "why not?" I already knew what I was going to order and it was the signature sandwich the Pig Dog, a beer-braised Duroc pork belly with barbecue sauce, provolone and Swiss cheese and spicy Dijon served with an apple fennel slaw, and hand-cut fries. Bob ordered a burger abd we both had a 16 oz Heineken at only $4 each. Unreal. It took a few minutes to decide from their lengthy drink menu features a wide variety of specialty cocktails and craft and traditional beers. Lots of craft beer option. When my order came I gazed at the sandwich and thought for a moment it was a bit small for $11 but quickly changed my mind after the first bite. This was by far one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. I savored the damned thing and was so full I could not even finish my fries. Even if you consider the area, which doesn't have many options, Pig Dog struggles to be 3 star status. The food was okay. It's bar food - I like bar food! We started with the cheese curds and, while we got a massive mountain of them for only $9, they were overcooked. Most of them had exploded. They need to change the oil and turn down the fryer. I had a Cuban sandwich that was OK. The menu boasted the house made pork which was bland. There was avocado and mayo on my sandwich. I liked my sandwich but, that's not a Cuban sandwich. Call it something else. Tito's cocktails were only $4 on a weekend afternoon, so I ordered a vodka lemonade. It was served with pink lemonade and quite weak. The service varies. When we walked in, not a single table was occupied. Instead, there was a handful of people seated at the bar. My husband and I stood there and waited...and waited...and waited. The bartender looked up a few times but appeared to intentionally look past us. Not even a "just a minute!" could be thrown our way, apparently. We were seconds from turning around and leaving when I caught - not an employee, but another CUSTOMER sitting at the bar, gesturing at a waitress (who had just come in from elsewhere) as if to say "eeeek! Do something! They've been waiting!" PDP is a neighborhood spot frequented by regulars. Fair enough for them to go for the drink specials. I can't say enough great things about this establishment! Fast, friendly service, STIFF, reasonably priced cocktails, excellent music and easily one of THE best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. Nice, laid back, chill atmosphere. We biked the Fox River Trail and stopped by for lunch, sat outside on the patio and this joint did not disappoint! Seriously the Cuban sandwich tho....bread toasted to perfection, crunchy pickles, delicious sauce and generous amounts of mouth watering meat. Ahhh. Heavenly. Our server Hannah was lovely.
