The chicken and wild rice pizza is the #1 thing to do in the book called: 100 things to do in northern MN before you die, so of course we had to try it! The first few bites, I wasn't impressed but after a while I think I learned to appreciate it. The subtle firmness of the wild rice husk adds a nice balance to the creamy bass. I'd recommend sausage over chicken if you're choosing one (we did both). I actually preferred the Sourhwestern pizza for its flavor and spice. It was a stark contrast from the wild rice pizza. Another surprise- thought it was a take out place but they have seating with service in the front and a more secluded private space in the back. Also have a few canned beers available. Don't get the pastas. They were taken out about three minutes before al dente. That was the highlight.

I was finally able to make it over to indulge in the afternoon pizza and salad bar buffet all the locals talk about. Parking can be a bit hairy as it's right downtown and close to a one way street, you may have a little walk but not far. Inside seems small but if you explore further back, there lies the restrooms and another room with larger tables for big families or for meetings. You have the option of putting your order in at the counter or, surprisingly, there are staff that will come to your table. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Prices were a bit steep I felt, but so is everything at the moment. I spent about $15 for the pizza and salad bar combo (which I strongly suggest) and a drink. There's a good selection of bottled drinks. The salad bar was stocked and fresh filled with lots of interesting selections including potato salad. They even offered little mini brownie bites! You also had the choice between 2 soups, and 2 pastas. There were at least 4-5 pizza selections as well. You won't go away hungry. I will say the pizza was just OK in my opinion. It's sufficient. The crust lacked ant substance for my taste and was a bit too chewey. The red sauce seemed non-existing and/or was a bit too acidic. Could have used a tad more sweetness. The toppings were generous and tasty although. I'm not typically a sausage person but you could definitely taste the cardamom. The pizza was good but the service was bad. We sat down to order and after putting in our pizza choices, we sat and sat...for over an hour. The order was lost or forgotten - meanwhile the kids that worked there were playing around in the back and having fun behind the scenes. Our pizza finally came later - but only after a few other tables had arrived, eaten and left. The young workers apologized and had excuses - but the restaurant is so small it was obvious they were playing around and did not take their work seriously. Staff was horrible, time was way too long almost 40 mins with only 3 people waiting. The pops (Pepsi products) took over 14 mins too get too our table, took 12 mins too have a server then add on the 38 minute wait for the pizza. Workers was sitting around doing nothing, had one server come up and slide the pizza on our table and of course I always say thank you with a smile while looking at the server, not a single look back and said "yeah" I've seen reviews online about things like that but never once had someone do that too me. The pizza was actually good I would personally rate the pizza a 3 out of 5 besides the speed. Everyone likes different pizzas and this one was slightly thin crust but the meat sauce and dough ratio was on point. Over all I would try too come here on another day just too see if it's the same experience but if I had the same experience I will never take my family here again. read more

We ordered Poor Gary's when we were eating at Moose Lake Brewery. The service was super friendly. The delivery came quicker than originally planned. We ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and cheesy garlic bread. Absolutely delicious food especially with a cold brew. The Wild Rice pizza is amazing!! We'd stopped at a local bar and wanted food. They suggested we order delivery from Poor Gary's. Heck, why don't we just go to Poor Gary's. So glad we did! This is a great mom and pop pizza shop. Great tasting pizza and about a 15 minute wait time. Didn't charge me for Ranch and Blu Cheese dressing. Fair pricing for what you get. Bottled sodas are a big plus for me, which they carry. They do cut the pizza into squares which I found odd, but not enough to lose a star. Great service. Although I didn't try them, they have some interesting speciality pizzas. Only downside was the soup was not up to my Mom's expectations. One star off for that. read more

Their hours on the weekends went until 10pm. We arrived there at 9:53pm and the doors were locked and the OPEN sign was on. We waved to an employee and asked if we could order a pizza to go. She happily obliged us and let us in. As she was preparing our pizza the Manager, Malory was sitting at a table counting cash. She then bellows out that it was 10pm and the store was closed. We corrected her by saying it wasnt quite 10pm yet. Another patron tried to get in at 9:55pm and the doors were still locked. Marissa the very helpful girl that let us in was amazing, so we decided she deserved her own tip. My husband then walked over to her and handed it to her and told her that only she could have it. The manager was very rude to my husband saying it doesn't work like that, at which time my husband explained that she and she alone deserved the tip. I could tell things were getting a bit awkward so i called my husband over and we waited for our pizza. To our surprise the Manager came up to both of us explaining that the employees locked the door and that she can't be held responsible for what the employees do. I spoke up and told her she was IN FACT 100% responsible and that we thought her approach was very rude. She would not stop talking and we would not let her continue to explain. I told her the business hours of her own store and reminded her that 10pm means 10pm or maybe she should consider changing the hours to 9:55pm. I am sorry but, I would never have treated a paying customer as rudely as she had. I will never step foot into that establishment as long as she is there. A manager like that made her employees look incompetent and then blamed them for it. I am saddened by her mistreatment of us and fear that she might do this to others. Please be mindful of this place if the Manager Malory is there. Perhaps they should also consider extending their Friday and Saturday hours. read more

We had eaten here once before during a non rush time. We felt the food was reasonable. We tried again on Saturday August 8, 2015. After waiting about 20 minutes. We were greeted by a kid, placed our order with a request to rush a salad. Now I could forgive an oversight if the place was packed but there were fewer than 4 parties seated. I got the kids attention, asked about the salad, he went into the kitchen (just feet away) and inquired about the salad. Another person said " I don't even know where the lettuce is." Again I could forgive if there were not more folks IN the restaurant. Next someone dropped a square plastic tub of black olives on the floor. Accidents happen. What's not an accident, is scooping up said black olives , and putting them back in the container, then on the counter. Moments later, another person Bare hands a fistful of cheese across the kitchen. Remember we are feet away from the chaos. Having now spent 45 minutes, no drinks, no salad, sure as shit no pizza, we chose to cancel our order. THESE KNUCKLE HEADS COULD NOT EVEN FIND OUR ORDER. To the owners of the Restaurant, on what has to be the busiest nights of the week, I would advise you not leave your restaurant, your reputation, and your name in the hands of children with , poor supervision at best. I've been eating here since 2011. When I visit, the Staff are very friendly and the experience eating there is great. This has been me and my friends go-to eating destination when we decide to go to Moose Lake. Even my friends that are not local enjoyed the food and the experience. I have had some issues like once or twice my bosco sticks were cold in the center but I order 10 of them each time and it was on a very busy day so it's not really a big issue at all. I'd definitely recommend Poor Garry's if you're stopping by Moose Lake. read more

Very good pizza. Terrible service. We had to get up and find our server 3 times for refills, boxes and a check. Once she brought our food out, she never checked back. She was sitting in the kitchen on a stool chatting. The whole place was also pretty dirty and did not look well maintained. The entry way is not very welcoming. There were empty display cases and no one greeted us. The only reason we stayed is we were all starving and the kids only wanted pizza. Doubtful we will ever be back. Which is unfortunate because the pizza was really good and we love to support small, local businesses. read more
