Continuing our two month motorhome trip, we find ourselves in Superior, WI for five days. When I…read morefirst saw mention of Anchor Bar, I wondered if it was a location of the Anchor Bar and Grill in Buffalo, NY (IYKYK). It is not associated in any way. I persuaded my wife to go for an early dinner. I told her my perception was a "dive bar". She wasn't too pleased and I told her maybe an "eclectic bar" would be a better description. Yes...an eclectic bar. Cash only with an ATM at the ready with only a $2.50 service fee (my bank refunds all ATM service fees). We got the last two seats at the bar. There were two people working the bar and they were extremely welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We are from Texas and as soon as I open my mouth, you can see the "look" on their face. We both were very glad we went. My wife ordered the California burger and I ordered the mushroom and swiss cheese with the addition of sauteed onions and bacon. My burger was absolutely delicious. My wife really enjoyed hers, but mentioned she wished she had ordered it medium. The fries were obviously hand-cut and I assume on the premises...hot and delicious. Don't worry about plenty of ketchup. The bar had several, very large bottles of Heinz ketchup within easy reach. Plenty of rolls of paper towels. We ordered two Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy drafts; nice and cold. They use a very unique pint glass with a hole and magnet in the bottom. The glass is placed on the machine and it is enters through the bottom. Never have seen this before. Ambiance? Very eclectic with a nautical theme. I loved this place! Again, both servers at the bar were very attentive. Never walked by without asking is everything OK, or if there was anything we needed. This is a must when in Superior or Duluth. Would return again and I highly recommend.

Everything looked super cute but there were coloring and crayon scribbles on everything. It was on the books, the tables the displays etc. I asked a local friend and they said this is normal. When the waitress went to take our drink orders she was ok slightly rude. We looked at our friend and he said they aren't known for their service and can be a little rude. I asked if it's like Dicks Last Resort and he laughed and said no. I think she was okay after that and was like a standard waitress at more restaurants after . I would just say dont expect bending over backwards to make the customer number 1 service . I'm okay with that. They have some very interesting and yummy selections for burgers . I got excited for a blue cheese Burger. I will say that my Pattie was very well done and the bun was on point. The blue cheese dressing top.... Not what I want for a blue cheese burger . I was expecting the blue cheese crumble. The fries... bomb! Definitely get fries. Do I want to go back? Maybe if can sit outside on a nice day. Sort of got the ick sitting inside but it's because I'm not a dive bar kind of girl.

Very good and the beer was cold. Bartender was friendly and attentive. The place was very busy and we struck up conversations with people on either side of us. The vibe was good. People were enjoying themselves, but it wasn't loud or rowdy. Can't speak for the food, all we had were the cheesy bites and they were delicious. I highly recommend.

There was a wait when we got there on a Friday afternoon so we spent that time walking around, building up the anticipation of how great this place might be. Got seated. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We sat in the downstairs seating area which had big booths which easily accommodated our party of 6. Place was clean but that is where the praise ends and hence the 3 stars. We ordered multiple appetizers and a whole bunch of entrees. Out of the appetizers, only the giant onion rings were a hit and unfortunately none of the entrees hit the spot. Like for pasta, we barely touched it cause it was really soggy. The burgers somehow tasted bland. Steak & mushrooms were ok. All the hype & anticipation, grandmas came up short for us :(

Thing that makes this place truly unique is that it's in Wisconsin but you can only get there from Minnesota Highway 23. And it's easy to miss as you enjoy scenic Hwy 23. Turns out the state line between Minnesota and Wisconsin is just past the Horseshoe Pit in the parking lot and most of the parking and all of the restaurant is in Wisconsin. I ordered take out (during COViD times), called ahead to place my order. It was ready for pick up when I arrived. The building is large and brown. There is almost no signage on the outside, but this is it. PBR sign out front. Miller Lite sign in a small window. Front and back doors (maybe north and south side) both serve as main entrance. Outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot and a lot of trees. Several locals we're enjoying a relaxing day at the bar. Lots of seating inside for dining. Seemed comfortable. I did get the "who's this look" when I walked in. The bartender was nice, friendly and took my plastic and gave me my burger quickly. Easy peasey. I ordered the green olive burger and fries to go. The burger was solid, cooked just right and the olives come with bLue cheese on this one and it is a good tasty combination. The fries were very good. I'd like to try their Friday night fish fry sometime. Their website talks about the history of this place, kinda interesting if you have time check it out.

CRISPY BRUSSEL SPROUTS Sweet and spicy soy glaze with sautéed red peppers and scallions. These were a little too heavy on the sauce for my liking, but otherwise very good. If you're not a fan of sweeter flavors, this one may not be for you. BUFFALO MAC & CHEESE Cavatappi pasta tossed in a creamy mac sauce, topped with crispy buffalo chicken, blue cheese crumbles, and onion straws. We added bacon and chicken, and this was a top pick for us! The buffalo sauce had the perfect balance--not overly spicy, but enough flavor to complement the creamy mac and cheese. CPB CO. FISH AND CHIPS Craft beer-battered haddock served with Northcoaster fries and house-made tartar sauce. Another top pick for us! The fish was crispy, flavorful, and perfectly fried. Honestly, one of the best fried fish dishes I've had in Minnesota. Unfortunately, I can't report on the beer as I'm not a big drinker...Sorry! Overall, a fantastic experience with great food, welcoming service, and plenty of variety. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Duluth!

The beer selection was a little smaller than we expected, but there was still a nice variety of styles, so everyone in our group found something they enjoyed. They also have a full bar with specialty cocktails. The food menu was surprisingly large with lots of unique and fun options to try. The only small downside was that the Brussels sprouts were still a little undercooked for our taste, but everything else was excellent and more than made up for it. Excellent brisket, fish n chips, and build your own burger! The garlic aioli and IPA mustard sauces were definitely memorable. Overall, it's a great spot for good food, craft beer, and a fun atmosphere located right on the pier. We'd definitely come back!
