This review actually breaks my heart to write this. I LOVED uricchios. I owned a downtown salon and would recommend my clients and friends to go there for dinner. My husband and I did date night there often when we were dating. The owners were so sweet and knew of Me. I moved out of Bakersfield 6 years ago. I was visiting my parents in Bakersfield two weeks ago who had never been to uricchios and I couldn't wait to take them to dinner there! I called ahead the day before and made reservations for myself, my mom and dad, and my husband. We sat down and the place was empty on a Saturday, just a couple tables occupied. My mom ordered a Cesar salad and it was warm! We waited an hour and 15 minutes and our food never came out. No one came and gave us an update but we kept getting sent numerous appetizers "on the house". Sodas were watered down. Bread was mediocre. Finally after an hour and 15 minutes we got up and left. Whatever was happening in the kitchen was not a good sign! They appeared to be struggling despite being not busy at all. I have never been more disappointed in a restaurant, my husband and I had to get in n out on the grapevine for dinner. I was so embarrassed that I even recommended for my family and my husband to do a dinner at uricchios, much less RAVED about it. We spent several days in Bakersfield and loved it. We wanted to have one last meal there so this time we went with Italian at Uricchio's Trattoria. We loved it so much, not only did we dine there, we ordered a bunch of food to go and drove it home to heat up and eat the next day. The next day food was just as great as when we ate there. It just has wonderful dishes. Founder by Nick Uricchio, and his son Steve they opened Uricchio's Trattoria, clearly a family affair. Sadly, Nick died some time ago. He was the nicest guy and always had a smile on his face. His nick name was Papa Nick. He always said hello to the customers and was just a doll. Go in his honor. It is just as great as when Nick was there. Steve is usually there to greet you and he is wonderful. Uricchio's Trattoria offers a great selection of appetizers, soups (a must) and entrees to satisfy anyone. They have fresh seasonal dishes prepared with care from Executive Chef Raphael Hernandez who has been there forever I think. Parking is easy. Make a reservation, you want to do that. It gets crowded. We have been there without one before and loved sitting at the bar and eating. Anything with shrimp is great. All of their pastas are great. We loved their spaghetti and meat balls. Their vegetables are made right. They don't consider it something just to toss on your plate. They are al dente and so great. Their Linguini pasta with shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels in a tomato basil marinara sauce is my favorite and they have the best salads and desserts. It is a must stop in Bakersfield. Went on a Thursday, without reservations. We were there early and enjoyed a FANTASTIC bar experience with George (the bartender). Seated for dinner with 90 minutes to spare before our show. Waited an hour for our food because they were understaffed. The food was spectacular, and our waitress (Micah) worked so hard for us. We were really pushed, but the manager (Clair) took such good care of us. Food arrived 5 minutes before we had to leave, but it was so tasty! Leftovers were better the next day. I give it 5 stars because of the overall experience. Great cocktails, great service, spectacular food. Definitely will go back again and again. read more

My husband and I went here for Friday date night. He made reservations and we were seated in the inner room which we liked. Quiet and a bit more private. It was pretty busy, the server took a while to take our orders. My husband and I split their shrimp and scallop pasta and an order of calamari. I love how the scallops were cooked, I think that was the best part. They give you bread as starters but not sure if they come with any olive oil/balsamic vinegar. Came here for Valentine's Day and left with a new crush: the Lobster Ravioli. Honestly, the flavors were so top-notch I'm still thinking about them. My only heartbreak? There were only five on the plate. I could have easily devoured twenty! The starter bread deserves an award for its role as the ultimate "sauce scooper" nothing went to waste. My boyfriend's pasta (pictured) was solid, but let's be real, mine won the dinner. The staff was super attentive (my water glass was never lonely) and the V-Day decor made the whole night feel extra special. My friends treated me for my birthday lunch here! I chose to order the chicken piccata and it was delish. It is a lot of food for lunch so I was only able to eat one of the chicken breasts and half the veggies. I appreciate that they cook the veggies al dente. The sauce was well seasoned. We waited over an hour for our food, and when I finally asked our server about it, I was told it was "on its way out." By that point, however, we had already been sitting far too long with our children and decided we couldn't wait any longer. The staff offered to pack the food to go. I was told one of our entrées would be comped because of the delay, but that never happened. Instead, I was given a gift card after the mistake was realized. Throughout the meal, empty glasses were left on our table, and I eventually carried them to the bar myself. Our server followed me and asked if I wanted another drink, which I declined. While the staff was apologetic, the final issue was what pushed me to write this review. My chicken cacciatore was packed so carelessly that by the time I opened it, it was a soggy, unappetizing mess. After spending nearly two hours of our weekend dealing with this experience, being charged full price for food that was never properly served and then poorly packaged is simply unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but the combination of the excessive wait, lack of attention to the table, billing issues, and poor handling of the takeout order made for a frustrating experience that fell far below expectations. read more

Brian, the maître d' and son of the owner, greeted me with genuine kindness and offered me a choice between a table or the bar. I chose the bar--it felt alive and easy. The Dodgers game playing at the bar not loud a perfect tone it was a vibe. My dinner was unforgettable: a flawless salad, basil bread with dipping sauce that could be a meal on its own, and the picante chicken w/ ravioli--absolutely divine. I even ordered more, plus two soups to go. Chowder n minestrone for home. George, the bartender, was warm and charming and we shared love for nature in kern county (kernville) and Katarine brought playful energy that made the night feel cinematic we talked vampire movies since Halloween is around the corner. It is a family-owned ...thirty years, and you can taste that care in every dish. 4 people went last night to celebrate 50th anniversary. We went here regularly 15 years ago before moving to the coast! What happened last eve was hopefully a fluke, but it was horrible in so many ways. Discord in the kitchen staff... arguing. No wine menu, so waiter had to tell us and no prices. "House wine" was $35+ for a bottle. We all four had chicken scallopini. Tough, dry and hard to cut!! Soggy pasta on the side. One hour before we got our meal and the people next to us (who were there before us) got their dishes after us. Recommendation: if there is discord among the staff, or if they are short-staffed, or if the cook left... that is not on us! We paid $170 plus tip for a horrible meal! We will NOT be back and our memory of many evenings out at Urrichios is tainted. Will NOT recommend. read more

I have not been here for years. It has not changed. Very busy on a Thursday night. The waitress was very helpful and our drinks were on the table in minutes. It is very nice, with black table cloth, the decor is a little old school. But the food was incredible. The calamari was crunchy, fluffy, just perfect in every way. A Bakersfield treasure. Georgia and I shared a house salad and Ravioli al Forno with meat sauce. First time trying the Ravioli and it was absolutely outstanding. Tiramisu for dessert, the best we've had since our trip to Italy :) Our wonderful server who has worked at URRICHIO'S for 27 years could not have been more perfect. Their Chicken Piccata is one of my favorites - we chose to have it with a side of pasta (Fettuccine Alfredo) If you haven't had a chance to stop by recently now is a great time to take advantage of lunch specials at this local favorite. Decided to stop by here with my husband for dinner. We really don't understand where all of the good reviews are coming from. To begin the caesar dressing was literally just mayonnaise? The basil garlic bread was just not good. I had the eggplant parmesan and it was rubbery with globs of cheese on top (not in a good way). My husband had the Penne Alla Nina and it was extremely dry. The only item we enjoyed was the meatball, it was very tender/juicy. The atmosphere/lighting wasn't the vibe either, definitely meant for an older crowd. Service however was very friendly and fast. I joined my friends for the Tuesday night special. It was very fast service and the wine was served right away. Three choices of wine. We had a choice of at least 5 different entrees and several salads. Bread was served and it wasn't very long and the meal was served. I was very happy with my choice. The chicken was tender, bell peppers and onions were perfect. Potatoes were a slight crisp to the side. The sauce was tasty and not at all heavy. Spumoni ice cream was served for dessert. It was very delicious with a dark chocolate mixed with pistachio ice cream and chunky cherry ice cream. A wonderful way to end a delicious meal with my friends. I'm not sure why, but nothing feels more privileged than to have lunch outside on the patio of Uricchio's with a glass of wine, watching the world go by. This is a place where they treat you like family. Mica, our server, knows we're going to enjoy a leisurely meal. My wife got the Eggplant Parm. I opted for the Penne Puttunesca. Brian brought out some cheesy bread to nibble on. While we waited, we ordered a glass of wine. They have an excellent selection of reds. My wife says the Eggplant Parmesan is delicious. I'm 3 months new in Bakersfield. The restaurant looks nice but the food just can't compare to Italian restaurants in Orange county. I ordered Caesar salad, it had 2 croutons as stopping, no shredded cheese the dressing was blah. I had to add ground pepper and open a bag of croutons. The lobster ravioli smelled old. There are few places in Bakersfield that stand out. When people from out of town ask: "where do you recommend going?" I have trouble coming up with any names because, for the most part, my experiences with dining in this town are underwhelming at best. It's usually the same old tale of paying too much for a mediocre meal served by someone who obviously hates their job. Urrichio's, I'm happy to say, breaks the mold. I ordered the salmon: a beautiful piece of wild-caught fish adorned with capers and the lightest, brightest, most complimentary sauce. The vegetables were fresh and crisp--not the frozen garbage everyone else seems to serve these days. I also had a side salad with their house dressing which was a creamy Italian and it was beautifully balanced. You really get the full Bakersfield ambiance as well--with the screams of a homeless crackhead echoing throughout the streets of downtown. We all were incredibly disappointed with the ambience and the food per price. The restaurant is too packed with tables to enjoy the food. Being a person who walks with a cane it made me feel trapped and uncomfortable. This restaurant in my opinion is not handicapped friendly. The restaurant was dirty and dusty with chunks of broken tile on the floor. The food was not as good as we thought it would be considering the price per plate starts at $22 if you're not ordering appetizers. For 4 of us my total bill was $136 and I feel like I was cheated. My son's lasagna had giant bay leaves mixed in and all of our plates seemed to be reheated. The bread was stale and the butter too hard to spread. We have always ordered Italian food from your wonderful menu. I again, ordered items from your menu last evening and I have never had CLAM CROWDER WITH EXTREMELY HOT PEPPER OR SOMETHING SUPER SPICY. MY HUBBY ORDERED a salmon and he loved it. I too in the past have enjoyed your food. CLAM CHOWDER IS NOT SUPPOSE TO BE SPICEY. The owner is nice, welcoming and very pleasant. My dish was the chicken piccata and ravioli which was good. However, the place is very outdated and my eyes were burning because of how Smokey it was in there. My son's eyes were also burning because they do not have any ventilation in there so keep that in mind when you take your little ones. I couldn't wait to walk out of there to get some air. Later, I noticed we came out smelling like fried food it was kinda gross. And The restrooms are outside so be prepared to walk all the way over to Canada to use the bathrooms. Good luck! read more

Linguine pescadora came out in a medium size bowl plate and looks like it was slopped on like it was all cooked together. It was very salty. Decent amount of seafood but they were tiny pieces of scallops, fully peeled shrimp, a couple of clams and mussels. Also in it were clams. Definitely have had better. Angel hair pomodoro was also slopped onto a bowl plate. Flavoring was okay. Extremely hot, like it was cooked all together. Overall service was good but food was lacking. read more

I'm not going to lie, I was highly disappointed about tonight's dinner. We decided to celebrate our 33rd anniversary tonight instead of Wednesday. I had bought tickets to Joy Koy a few months ago and knew I needed to find a restaurant before the concert. A week ago I made the reservations, I let them know it was our anniversary and wanted a nice table inside. I picked this place because it had been a long time since we've been here. And we use to come here back in the mid 90's, a lot. So we get there, the parking is always awful. But we finally found one. We walked in, wasn't greeted, then taken to our small table up against the window. I don't ever remember all the tables being so close to one another. To the point that walking in between tables people have to scoot the chairs so you're not bumping in to them. Our waiter came over, very nice and very busy. We went ahead and got our drinks and put in an order for bruschetta. The waiter said it should take 15-20 minutes to come out, said okay no problem. So we ordered a cup of chowder, and ordered our entrees. My husband ordered the lobster ravioli, and I ordered the chicken piccata with alfredo ravioli. We actually got our bruschetta before our chowder. It looked nothing like we remembered or tasted. The bread was very soggy and it tasted like old ingredients. Do not recommend! The claim chowder was very good. We got our entrees and I about laughed right in front of the waiter. You will see in the picture. My chicken was very thin and smaller than the palm of my hand. I should have said something, I don't know why I didn't. I will say the flavor of both the chicken and alfredo ravioli was good. My husband did not care for the sauce on the lobster ravioli. I want to also point out that the bread they served us was hard and came in a basket they serve chips in at a Mexican restaurant. What happened to the nice baskets and was the bread was covered up? The menus look like a dinner menu, what happened to the really nice menus that you use to open up? For a restaurant that looks and feels classy and upscale, you need to do better. I also want to point out that your windows need to be cleaned. Please don't sit people next to dirty windows. And no it wasn't on the outside or in between the windows.
