I finally got a chance to try the much anticipated chicken sandwich and for $3.99, it was pretty good. The sandwich is pretty big and tasty and overall I was happy with it, I still prefer the chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A but I am biased and loyal to Chick-fil-A. Popeyes made a good run at it with this sandwich and if you a chance you should definitely wait in line and try one. Ok if you loved the sandwich why three stars? This particular Popeyes was a bit of a mess, tables were all dirty, floors need to be swept and the mens restroom was absolutely disgusting. All the employees are very professional and all working hard to get the chicken out. They just need to assign someone to the lobby and customer seating area. The cashier was nice when someone asked her if someone could clean the tables but she should not have to go back and forth to take orders and clean tables, that's why the line gets backed up. This Popeyes is extremely stingy with their sauces. I once ordered 20 pieces of chicken, and they did not give me even one sauce until I noticed and asked. When I asked for two kinds of sauces, they gave me only one of each. How is that enough for 20 pieces of chicken? Another time, I ordered 20 pieces of chicken through Uber Eats and requested some sauces, just to find out after the food arrived that they did not even include 1. I watched multiple customers come in totally maskless and order without a drop of pushback from the stand-in manager who was taking orders as a cashier. I've had good Popeye's experiences over the years and I've had bad ones. This, my first visit to this location, experience was good. I ordered the much hyped original and spicy chicken sandwiches to go (seating area is small and honestly I simply didn't want to eat there). One was ordered as a meal the other was a single sandwich and both sandwiches were ordered with extra pickles (to replicate how I would order them at that other chicken place). So the question: Is this a better fast food chicken sandwich than Chick-fil-a? In my opinion in some ways it is.... The chicken itself is crisper (Chick-fil-a, albeit tasty, is usually soggy) which adds alot to the overall experience. The spicy sandwich however is not as spicy as Chicks (by itself) it relies heavily on the sauce on the sandwich which creates an overall spicier experience. The pickles are a thicker cut which I like (more overall pickle flavor which might not require ordering extra pickle which, as already mentioned, I always do at Chick to simply cover overall surface area) and have a similar overall flavor to their competitor. The side ordered was their Mac N Cheese which is terrible overly processed garbage (harsh but true). I should have ordered their fries to compare to C-F-A but opted for something they should probably be doing right....I was wrong. So, sandwich is a go...it has been over 5 years since I last ate at a Popeye's but given the new sandwich I think I'll be back (much) sooner....I just won't be ordering the Mac N Cheese with it. read more
