I'm a big fan of Popeyes chicken sandwich and Cajun fries, but today I wanted to try their founder classic fish sandwich for the first time. I ordered a classic, not the spicy, and it had quite a kick to it. I thought it overpowered the fish. The sandwich was a good size for the price, and was much better than other fast food restaurants. I'll be the one to confirm all the shitty reviews. Went to the drive-thru at this spot last night to pick up dinner for my family. A box of chicken, and a few sides (including mashed potatoes + gravy - more on why I specify this later in the review). Nothing out of the ordinary. But now to the nitty gritty. First, I was in the drive thru line for at least 20 minutes, and there were maybe only 4-5 cars ahead, which was no big deal. Then, the person that took the order was rude. The person at the window - also rude. Finally get home, excited to eat dinner because Popeye's "generally" has a good track record in the satisfaction factor... only to discover, just before my second bite of the mashed potatoes + gravy, a giant bug that was stewed into the gravy. No idea what it was. A small beetle, maybe a stinkbug - no clue. I'm not an entomologist, just an irritated husband at this point, but I'm also just getting started with this review. The rice in the red beans and rice tasted awful, undercooked, and dry. The CHICKEN, was wet, soggy, soft, clearly undercooked. Now, I've never worked in food service and I have the utmost respect to those that do but specifically to those that LOVE what they do. This goes for any area of customer service. If you love what you do, more power to you. If you don't care for quality and effectively doing your job... you shouldn't be doing what you're doing. Period. That's life advice, in case you missed it. On the house, this time! No one in their right mind (especially coming from where people that look like me come from) is expecting five-star service, exotic dishes, none of that shit, from a Popeye's. Ever. But if you're gonna not pay attention to the point where you're stewing insects into the food that you're serving, you've got another thing coming. That is absolutely unacceptable. Not to mention the fact that there are insects and such that have such access to the cooking surfaces/areas at all. It's unfortunate we didn't take a photo of this tragedy, but seeing a bug in your dinner that you've waited a net ~60min to finally sit and eat isn't exactly something you'd think to immediately photograph; its more of a reaction thing than a response. You also don't get a second chance when there's foreign matter involved. You also don't fuck up a colored person's fried chicken, red beans and rice, or their mashed potatoes and gravy and expect a pat on the back - ESPECIALLY at a Popeye's. To hell with that. Either way. I'm not irritated with Popeye's as the entity in and of itself, nor am I upset with fast food as a conglomerate, but fuck this SPECIFIC Popeye's location. I err EVERYONE reading these reviews to take heed and AVOID it at all costs. Makes me wonder why I stopped cooking my own food the first place... TL;DR - this Popeye's location needs to be shut down. "Craving Fried Chicken" A couple days ago I woke up craving fried chicken. Strange but true. I would have normally waited to go to Greer's in Bristol, or the Hen House in Southington, maybe even Patty's Pantry in Southbury. But I wanted it for lunch and there aren't any good chicken joints near where I work in Meriden. I didn't want KFC, so I thought I would try Popeye's in Wallingford. Well my first concern when I pulled into the parking lot at noon time was that I was the only customer there. I walked in and the place looked dirty. Red flag #2. I should have left then, but I really had a need for chicken. It bothered me that the employees were sitting in the dining area doing nothing when it was obvious there was a lot to clean. There's always something that needs to be done in a restaurant. The guy that took my order made me wait a couple minutes so he could finish paperwork at the counter. I was the only customer and he made me wait. Two many red flags but I placed my order anyway. I ordered a two piece dark meat spicy fried chicken with a side of red beans and rice, a bisquit, and a lemonade. I got back to my office and opened the box to find two tiny pieces of chicken. This has got to be the worst fast food place ever. I called from a half an hour away to confirm they had chicken sandwiches and they said they had 3 and that they would save me 2 of them. I drive all the way there and they were like we sold them, it will be 15 minutes. This was after they took my money. If they could make more why wouldn't they make more when they know they were going to run out?? Went to drive through yesterday, the menus were half gone and what was there was falling down. It was extremely hard to hear and understand what the employee was saying, I ordered a combo and he never asked what size, did or drink I wanted. I had to ask for my extra's which made me believe my order was gonna be wrong. When I got to the window I was watching the girl pouring my drink in a small cup, I told her I ordered a large combo, she had to redo my order because the person taking orders messed it all up. When I got home 5 minutes later, fries were ice cold, flounder sandwich had nothing on it, no pickles or tarter sauce and my drink was wrong. The outside of the restaurant looks run down and disgusting, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. I promise I'll never return and wouldn't recommend anyone go there. I've tried this place 3-4 times, thinking that maybe the last few experiences were isolated, so I tried again, hoping for the best. First the service. I wouldn't exactly call the servers rude, but they don't go out of their way to be friendly or helpful. It's as if they're being interrupted from whatever else they were doing before you walked in. If I know what I want to order I can deal with that, because I'm not there to make friends. However, there is no excuse whatsoever for the poor quality of the food. Every damn time at this location. Each time I ordered the food was lukewarm at best and the chicken is rubbery. Everything lacked freshness and tasted off as well, as if fried in old oil and hanging around too long before being sold. This is the only Popeye's that I can say this about. Unfortunately, it's the only one nearby. Also, I notice that their cleanliness has taken a hit. It's not as well-maintained as it was in the past. If you're in the mood for Popeye's chicken, my advice is to stay away from this place and find another location. read more

This place took one my favorite guilty pleasures, and just turned my guilt into pure shame. Service: After taking 6 minutes to take my order (We ordered the chicken sandwich with no mayo and buffalo nuggets, and a couple of sodas), and they couldn't even keep our receipt straight. "Whats your order? Let me see your receipt". Ack. Food: They screwed up the chicken sandwich, it had mayo and the bun was kind of stale. The buffalo nuggets lived up to their name. i purchased a fish sandwich and combo meals that came with drinks. i was told 50 minutes later that they didn't have drinks, and they handed me my food 50 minutes later and didn't mention they weren't giving me the fish sandwich because they don't have them, although i was charged for both the drinks and the fish sandwich. they told me i can't be refunded for anything in store, and that i will have to wait a week to be refunded just a few dollars. not only is the service bad, they can't speak english, and they expected us to understand them in spanish. multiple people walked in and walked out because of how horrible the service is. do not go here. read more

Visit from 6/4/16... Going for a 2 for 2...we noticed when we walked in right away the big issue was the air conditioning was clearly broken and a broken fan was "cooling" the place and the cleaning was a work in progress although it was being done. I felt bad for the help who was working hard in the heat in the kitchen as well as handling a difficult customer. The food was obviously hot because in this place it wouldn't have a prayer in cooling off. But it was hot and good... as well as fresh and fast. I think everyone was trying their hardest under trying circumstances but it was very uncomfortable in there. read more

Very dissatisfied with the 3 piece medium combo I purchased on Monday 12-20-21. This was my first visit to Popeye's and will be my last. The combo consisted of a small wing small thigh and drumstick all of which had very little flavor and was dry. Note this was all dark meal and all this for over $11.00. Granted you get a biscuit and soft drink with the combo. If you go to the Wallingford CT Popeye's you my want to ask what chicken pieces come in your combo especially if you prefer white meat. read more

If I could give this place a zero rating I would. This location doesn't even deserve 1 star. The workers are very lazy. I wanted a mild chicken meal. I was told that they only had spicy chicken available, and this was 8 pm in the evening. When I complained about it, I was then told that there was mild chicken, but it wasn't prepared. I then told the woman in the drive-thru that I would wait. The woman then replied, "It would take over an hour to thaw out". Unbelievable. This location always has a shortage of something. It's the only location in my area, which is why I continue to go back. This location really needs an overhaul of employees. It's like they have contempt towards customers looking for service. Best pop-eyes I have ever been to. Wait was less than a minute which compared to the 20 minutes I spent in their other location, this was a blessing. Food was delicious and staff was very pleasant. Price was a bit more than the other location I have been to, but not enough to make a difference, especially with the great service. Only gripe is the parking lot. It is very tight and Route 5 is a nightmare to get out of. If you are in the mood for chicken, and I mean really good chicken that will make your mouth water and your belt buckle pop, get off of Route 15/91 and grab yourself a bucket of chicken from here. read more

Today, i wanted Popeye's chicken for lunch. I drove to Wallingford Ct. Pulled up to the drive up speaker. When someone finally can to the speaker, I inquired as to their 8 pc. chicken tenders with fries and biscuits. The female I spoke with said they didn't have an 8 pc. I inquired what was close to that and she said "Wait a minute, I was wrong we do have it" I asked what came with it and she told me that it was only a chicken tender box anything else was separate. I told her I wanted a large fries and 4 biscuits. I went to the drive up window, was presented with my order, paid the bill and left. About a mile up the road, my wife looked into the bag and told me that we needed to return to Popeyes as my order was not complete. I was charged $3.00 for a hand full of fries and there was only one biscuit. I returned to Popeye's and went inside to speak to the woman at the counter. I showed her the very small bag of fries and told her about the lack of biscuits. She called the manager over and explained my complaint. He looked into the bag and rudely told me that's what you get for three dollars. He looked at my receipt, threw some fries in a box, added two biscuits, threw the box on the counter and said "here" and threw my receipt in the trash. I told him I intended to write this review and he didn't care. This place is an embarassment to the Popeye's franchise and should be closed. read more

I waited for an unacceptable amount of time- my food came as I was about to go through the drive thru a 2nd time. We pull off- no utensils to eat the rice & beans, no napkins & one of our drinks had no ice. I also watched 2 other vehicles go through the drive thru a 2nd time.
