a fried chicken sandwich
Rich B.

Let me start by saying that I don't normally patronize fast food places, and this is my first Yelp review of one. With that said, many of my friends (most notably Pots & Pans, and Demanding Dan) mentioned that Popeye's has the best chicken sandwich in the industry and, arguably, the best one anywhere. So this review is mainly for the classic chicken sandwich. The Popeye's location on Ella Grasso Tpke was perfect, notwithstanding some of the negative comments I read from fellow Yelpers. I did go inside to order (the drive-thru line at lunch was seriously backed up). The young lady was friendly, helpful, and fast. The sandwich was moist and bigger than I expected. I also ordered Cajun fries to go. Spicy, and finger-lickin. They were gone b4 I got home five minutes later. But, the hit of visit was definitely the classic chicken sandwich. 5-star all the way!

With our workplace cafeteria closed, what were we to do for lunch? When the possibility of a Popeye's run came up, seven of us said "count me in". So, three of us piled into a car and headed out to Popeye's up by the airport. We had a pretty simple order -5 spicy chicken sandwich combos and 2 regular chicken sandwich combos. We found the counter person who took our order to be friendly and efficient. It took a while to package up the seven meals, but we were out of there in a decent amount of time to drive our treasures back to Windsor. What can I say? My sandwich was very good. I liked the spicy zip on the breading, the portion of chicken was super generous, the roll was soft and fresh, and even the pickle slice added a lot. The fries were good too, but the portion size was definitely on the chintzy side. On the other hand, the soft drink that came with the $8.99 combo was pretty generous. Just a few improvement opportunities. Two in our group wanted a regular Coca Cola, but the Coke option was sold out on their freestyle soda machine. Secondly, we found it really hard to tell which sandwiches were spicy and which were regular. Finally, we saw a very hard to read space on the bottom of the bag where a pencil mark indicated how much spicy horsepower was in that sandwich. The secret was discovered too late for some folks.... The verdict? For fast food, it was pretty good!!

Not potatoes and cajun gravy.

One of these are supposedly potatoes and Cajun gravy. How hard is a prepared side of potatoes and gravy.

Came in from West Coast... warding off hangry! This Popeyes is brand new and had to check it out. SUPER friendly staff, very clean and how can you not love the crispy chicken! They have the Coca-cola machine with lots of flavors to try. While we were waiting for fresh fish, tried tastes of most flavors. I REALLY like the diet Sprite with rasberry.

Half size portion for a regular side.

The wings have gotten so small, they could be pigeon wings. For shame charging $5.99 for these small wings.

Waited 30+ min for my order. Girl rolled her eyes at me or ignored each time I asked politely about my order. Ordered two meals. Got one.

Absolutely the worst Popeyes and fast food place I've ever been. Out of everything! Staff was horrible and not friendly.

While staying nearby at the Doubletree I came here in the morning for breakfast. It's the typical…read more"greasy spoon" type of place, but better. I sat at the counter and was greeted immediately. Their menu is loaded with all the typical, popular breakfast eats. I opted for their corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. Starting with coffee. The coffee was typical, very good. My eggs I ordered scrambled with cheese and they were made perfectly! I'm a stickler for not having eggs overcooked, I don't want to see, nor taste any brown on them and these came out just right. Their breakfast potatoes are some of the BEST I've had at a place like this. There wasn't as many onion as I would have preferred, but the flavor and texture was perfect! So Very Good!! And finally, the corned beef hash - They use the typical canned style, which I knew and I asked for it to be well-done with jalapeño. The chef did a perfect job with this part of my breakfast!! Wow - So Good!!! Overall - definitely a very nice breakfast here... I'd most definitely return!!

This is my first time here! The restaurant is located at 50 Ella T. Grasso Tpke, Rte 75, Windsor…read moreLocks, CT. This is a 50's diner. I like the music. The decor is all 50's from the chairs, walls, food, etc. Here's their story: "September 11th 2001 changed my life forever. After 19 years as a flight attendant, I decided it was time for a change. Thanks to my dearest mentor and friend, my dreams have come true. Actually, this all dates back to the year of 1952. My friend had a wish, too! Naif Makol, Jr. loved to eat his burgers when he was only knee high to a grasshopper, at which time, he asked his daddy if he would buy him a hamburger store. "Bah" astonishingly honored his son's request, and the family was in Burger Business. We dedicate the vision behind our concept to an exceptional man, Naif George Makol, Sr., without whose foresight and extraordinary business sense this could have not been possible. Our country was a great place to live in back in the 1950's American families enjoyed simple pleasures like drive-in movies, cruise nights, and car hops. Much has changed today except the memories of a time gone by. Naif Jr. has never let those joyous memories fade so in saying that here we are today. Naif and I wanted to create a place representative of a time when families gathered together listening to Dion or little Richard on the radio or cruising into their favorite soda shop for burgers or dogs. Skooter's took on a life of its own once we collaborated about the open kitchen concept and sit-down counter service. We've created a warm, family atmosphere which we hope you will enjoy. Our goal as proprietors is to provide you quick in-and-out service in an upbeat, happy environment at an affordable price. We want to be your home away from home. With Jonathan Karas as a key part of our family and the central force of our operations, I'm sure you will enjoy what he has to bring to the table (pun intended). We hope you delight in the simplicity and of course the great tasting yummy food." For my drink, I'm having a black coffee. It's my first caffeinated drink in a long time (no decaf available). I'd have a milkshake, but they're extremely heavy. Ah! REAL coffee! For my soup, it's Sausage, Pepper and Onion. Rice too I see. It's very good! An unusual soup, I'm also trying the chili. This is good! I got the last of it! Peppers is an odd ingredient. I can't leave here without trying a hot dog (Frankfurter) with sauerkraut. This is good! I liked the buttered bun. No shortage of sauerkraut. For my entree, I'm having a Grilled Lemon Chicken sandwich. This is really good! Notice the square lettuce leaves. For dessert, I'm having a slice of blueberry pie. This is a HUGE piece of pie! It's nice and chilled. I haven't had this in decades! It's delicious! What a great meal here! Those onion rings are freshly battered and are huge! One of them was 4 inches across! Oh yeah! This is great!
