I haven't been to this branch but it's the home branch, and my comments apply to the bank itself as a bank. So, generally, they are nice, mostly. A withdrawal takes 10 minutes. What are they typing? I don't think they have the best software. Once I was ready to shift my business account to Poppy from another bank. I used chat gpt to print a list of things I should do to make sure i made no mistakes in the process. I took the list to my branch to have them cross aout anything unnecessary, and add anything missing, and they refused to look at it because it was made by AI. "We don't do AI." It was a PIECE OF PAPER! It's like them saying, if I brought in a list I brainstormed myself: 'We don't do customer brains.' I said I needed to know where I might incur fees if I do something wrong. They said, and actually cut me off 3 times before I could finish: "There are no fees." That's a pretty blanket statement which I knew to be in error. In fact I was charged a fee the next month, which they did forgive, for my balance on business acct falling below the 2500 minimum (my current bank has no mimimum, they have other problems). But there's MORE. Yesterday i got a zelle to my account. it had $1 before the zelle. Suddenly, after adding the zelle [status: Posted], acct still had $1, AND the added funds were showing on the most recent line, but the balance didn't change. Their software had subtracted the zelle amount from my initial balance FROM 2024. The balance showing after each transaction from then to now, had the amount of the zelle subtracted from it: every transaction from 2024 to now was light by the zelle amount exactly. I had eight overdrawn balances showing since 2024. Anytime my balance was lower than the amount of the zelle yesterday, I was showing overdrawn. My initial deposit showed as $1001; the resulting balance was light by the Zelle payment! How do you make an initial deposit and it's not all counted?? Understand I am saying my entire list of history was changed from 2024 to now by the amount of the payment that was received yesterday. Not sent, RECEIVED. How the F does that happen? The next morning, it was all changed back, and the current balance appeared as the $1 plus the Zelle payment, and every transaction since 2024 was changed back and correct, as was the initial deposit which showed bal of 1001 in the small print on that line, as it always should have. I own homes in Sonoma County and San Mateo, PB just opened branch in Burlingame- I drive by often Today I entered main SR Branch with intent to open basic checking and a 4 step CD ladder. I presented all required forms of identification and certified funds from my previous major money bank, Eg - chase or Wells Fargo. Upon entering , tellers were nice enough and said wait for a banker, ok - I'm patient, short wait. Now person greets me as the assistant branch manager, asks what can I do for you. Somehow he and another staff member couldn't decide "who" can help me. I decided to sit with the staff member not the assistant manager who was completely confused when I asked about titling the name of account to my living trust - guess what he called the assistant manager who pawned me off of the staff banker to get his answer which was nearly disrespectful very curt in the negative. PB outsources debit and credit card fulfillment to another banking partner, I know this. Really pissed in the manner my Potential PB banker told me ". You'll have to wait 2 weeks plus for a basic atm card. They took my social and wanted to give a credit card though, I declined the offer. Maybe PB is better with commercial and SBA loans , Note I attempted to open basic checking 6 months ago and left the branch due to no attention. Drive to bank with new Benz I own, have large certified funds , walked in looking like a dead head hippie . Guess I'm not the client PB is looking for. Executive leadership tip- if you're paying for branch management' training ( they are a newish bank) make sure to include emotional intelligence factors. Guess my pittance of $ goes to another FI . I have an online high-interest savings account with Poppy. To do a wire transfer, I have to GO TO A BRANCH IN PERSON, unlike every other bank I've ever dealt with. Luckily, there's a branch in Alameda (I'm in Oakland); I don't know what I'd've done if I'd been somewhere far from a Poppy branch. This fact alone tells me that Poppy is bush-league, and when I can get higher interest elsewhere, I'm taking it. UPDATE: Check out Poppy's lame reply, leading not with, "we're so sorry for the inconvenience," but "we're protecting our own butts" and "it's your fault for not reading our FAQs." Idiots. If you're opening an online savings account, make sure you can do everything online or by phone, or you'll be stuck running around to who-knows-where just to do a simple transaction. read more

Inept. Lazy. Rude. Have been trying to get a copy of a 1099 for my mother's bank account for over a month. She didn't receive one for 2022 and has not received a statement in at least nine months, and no, she's not set-up for internet banking. If not for my examination of her previous tax return I would have never known that she had a (substantial) account here. Excuses have ranged from "the back office" needing to approve sending her a copy of a 1099 to there being a change in their computer system that prevented them from sending one. Was assured they'd send one immediately... which they didn't. Contacted their headquarters and asked for the same thing. Snarky woman on the phone snapped back with "We don't send them out for accounts that don't earn over $10 per year." I told her that I would be taking my mother's more-than-$10-in-interest-earning account elsewhere. Avoid these people like the plague. read more

I'm a fairly new customer of Poppy Bank (2 months since opening a Premier HYS account and a checking account). Problem #1: There is no Mobile check deposit available on my phone app and when I called the 888 number I was told very brusquely that I wouldn't see that option until I had my accounts for 90 days. What bank makes you wait to DEPOSIT $? That's just stupid. Problem #2: Transfers to deposit $ from external accounts to Poppy Bank- The app says I have external accounts linked but when I go to transfer $ the only accounts I see are the Poppy Accounts. Bank of America may have crappy interest but at least their online banking is easy to navigate. I'm getting pretty nervous about investing in this inept institution. read more

I saw they have a good interest rate on their high yield savings account so I applied so I could test their customer service. I figured I would deposit a few thousand dollars and see how it goes for a few months before moving in a significant amount. They rejected my application with a form letter email. Okay, that test did not take long. They couldn't even open the account efficiently. Don't waste your time with this bank. If they can't even handle step one of the customer interaction, it is not somewhere I would put any of my life savings. read more

Poppy Bank fraudulently closed my bank account without my permission due to me filing complaints. They have me confused with another customer, because they responded with false information trying to cover up for them being a fraudulent bank. Poppy Bank treats customers like trash, because they are a trash company. They will charge you fees just to withdraw money from your own account. What bank does that? All they care about is draining your bank account, not helping you. They are money grabbers, have horrible customer service and need to be put out of business. Bye Poppy! read more

If there was a less than one rating, I would give it. this is the worst run bank in existence. I have had my account in the Main Branch of the Santa Rosa office since 2009. When it was a de novo bank it served an important niche in the community. Now it is run on a skeleton staff, there is literally no one inside the branch or in the call center (that they use to palm off customers so they don't have to deal with it in house). I have had two Mobile Banking Deposits that were rejected for no reason. In fact the last excuse I got for it not being deposited into my account was that there was a portion of a baguette bag in the background of the otherwise perfectly legible picture. The person I spoke to in the branch said that only "digital banking" could answer my question and sent me back to the same call center that referred me to the branch to begin with. After getting re-routed back to the call center the person who assisted me took pity on the pathetic service I was receiving and when SHE called the branch they told her that the reason for the rejection was the corner of the shot that had the baguette bag in it (yes, the SAME branch that said I had to call digital banking becuase they did not have access to my account). We will be closing our accounts out as soon as our CD is mature in the Fall. We receive exemplary service from RCU and have moved everything else over to them. Cannot wait to be done with this terrible blight in our lives. read more

Once you can speak to someone, they are fine in my experience, but if you leave a message they may not call you back. I have had to call central numbers in anger to get through to the overworked and obviously understaffed tellers. If I need to do business I will go in person. They are new branch yet un-trust-worthy, NOT ONE single customer whe I stayed less than 90 minutes. Negative entity if you don't do what they say or doubt their practices. Amazing customer service and great programs. Poppy has great CD options and they did an amazing job answering all my questions.

This is my act of desperation, I am hoping if I post a bad review Poppy Bank will call me back. An email from November 30th was ignored and now I am trying to resolve an old issue as quickly as possible. I've called twice (and could only leave 2 messages that have not been returned within 3 hours) and emailed twice begging for ANY contact so that I can address and resolve the issue. I will revise this post once the issue is resolved, in the meantime - needless to say - I do not recommend Poppy Bank for any of your banking needs. Update: Within an hour of writing this review I received an email saying: I am so sorry for the inconvenience and the delay. Please let me take care of this immediately. I will keep you all posted on my progress. Update #2: They say the check is in the mail. Update #3: The check has arrived in the mail and our business is done with Poppy Bank. Anytime we went INSIDE the bank the tellers were super friendly and efficient but if we needed ANYTHING out of the ordinary it took way too much time and effort on our part to make sure the follow through happened. Run don't walk from this bank. I have had nothing but nightmarish service on a loan. Two months after paying it off, the lien has not been removed, they did not send me a note indicating the note had been paid off and no one will respond to either emails or phone calls. The few people who were consistently helpful either quit or were terminated, most likely due to the fact they had the nerve to put the customer first. It's sort of surprising this bank continues to be in business considering how miserably they treat people. read more
