What a fun place. Unfortunately it was chilly when we were here,but that meant we got a table with a view! Three bars and lots of seating, but I can tell they get pretty busy during nice days. I'm updating my review today as I was back in Florida and went to Pops for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did a deep clean throughout the restaurant again I was not concerned about the quality or the cleanliness of the food and the sanitary conditions of its preparation I was only Referring to the walkways and the seating areas. All of these have been thoroughly clean. You also have to remember that this is an outdoor restaurant so the environment does play havoc. Now, back to the review of the food and the service Angie was our waitress. She was amazing as always I had eggs and hashbrowns and a bloody Mary and obviously the cold smoked bacon as my usual. Let start with the location, because this is a high point. Right on the Intercoastal Waterway and we boated right up to a free space on the dock. Terrific. The service and food were not great. Took half an hour to get drinks. And so began the "things not available." The waiter offered a decaf latte. Bartender came out to say that's not available. We ordered the seafood pot. Not available. We ordered the peel and eat shrimp. Not available. Waited suggested the blackened grouper sandwich. Order it. A fried one came - blackened was not available. Coconut shrimp... it was available! But came with only 4 shrimp. Maybe I'm wrong, but seems like 5 or 6 is standard. The edamame salad and the burger were both quite good. Yes, they discounted the check for the trouble and they were nice about all of it, but was an uneven experience. read more

I was visiting from or of state so had to try the rum runner and some local beers that our bartender recommended. All were delicious! Had the fried shrimp and it was also a great choice. Came on a Friday night, crazy packed, loud and the wait was 45 minutes but ... if you want to run the gauntlet and persevere the food is good. We stuck with appetizers the shrimp ceviche and lobster bisque and both are very good. We got our drinks at the upstairs tiki bar where there was a fun atmosphere with live music. In hindsight we wish had stayed there. Pops is interesting and we may come back but we will stay at the tiki bar. read more

Had a really great time here yesterday - my first time! Very relaxed, laid-back vibe with several covered outdoor seating options. Although there were a lot of patrons, service was prompt and our order was taken and filled pretty quickly. Our server, Ryan, was absolutely amazing (Thanks, Ryan)! He was very friendly, personable and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was beyond spectacular (I highly recommend the Shrimp Rangoon (appetizer) and the cheeseburger (cooked to perfection!) Also want to send a shout-out to the manager who assisted us and really took special care to make sure we had a wonderful dining experience (I only wish I would have remembered her name to mention her here). Thank you!! You just can't beat a seat on the water on a beautiful, hot day so you're cooled by the breeze off the intercoastal and can interact up-close and personal with the wildlife as you dine and take in the scenery (sea birds and resident dolphin that are often sighted). I really wanted to like this place. We drove 40 minutes to get here and the view is spectacular! Eating under a tiki hut with live music playing for breakfast can't be beat!!! But we sat for close to 10 minutes before our waitress acknowledged us. My coffee came lukewarm. Before our meal arrived the waitress asked me if id like more coffee. Hoping it was hot I said yes. It was not. Certainly not a good sign. We were here 35 minutes before our food came out. We ordered simple sausage and cheese omelets. They barely had sausage in them. The toast which we ordered dry, was cold. They forgot my orange juice. Pan fries were good. My wife's hash browns were cold and hard. We won't be back. read more

We dined a Pops hoping for a lovely view of the water and great food. Unfortunately we were seated in a weird spot facing water but also a parking lot just on the other side and what looked like an abandoned building. The view was so limited we could hardly see the water in fact. Quite disappointing but, every seat can't be the best I suppose... Moving past that we hoped for a great meal. My partners meal was decent and mine was, well, not. I got a wrap sandwich which contained mostly lettuce and fries. Literally each fry was a sharp pointy end- it was frustrating! Maybe some would like that, but I was going for something different. Just felt like a meal I could get at Applebees. I feel inclined however to mention the good parts of our experience bc I know everyone is working hard and my opinion is just that- my opinion. The best part of our meal was our server. I wish I'd gotten her name. She was kind, really responsive, and on point. She even hunted me down to give me my sunglasses after I'd left them on the table (oof). Thank you another great part was the live music. The musician was a former staff and he got the place moving! Overall, I think Pops has potential if you're seated in a good spot and order the right thing. Love this place. Great food. Super casual old Florida restaurant on the intercoastal waterway. It is very popular so be prepared to wait during peak meal times. There is extra parking in the dirt lot to the Northeast of the restaurant. Sometimes it can be full but I have always been able to get a parking place. There is free parking in the attached lot. They have fans to keep it cool. The bar overlooks the intracoastal. Cocktails were $8. Miller lite draft was $3.15. My family has been going to Pop's for years- the ayce fish on Friday's WAS out of this world. It has changed a lot over the year from price and quality. Now for $24.50 you get 2 pieces of fish with no flavor and thick breading. We used to race down from Michigan just to get that yummy fish - half and half as we called it - half regular and half Cajun lightly breaded- couldn't get enough! Pop's was a fantastic spot to grab delicious food and drinks after a long day at Nokomis beach. There is plenty of seating, beautiful water views outside that hang 3-4 dolphins splashing around right as we sat down, and a gift shop offering plenty of neat merchandise for purchase. The food was fantastic; I had the teriyaki salmon and it was absolutely perfectly cooked and flavored! The Miami Vice was a tasty drink as well. The menu is loaded with great selections of seafood and steaks. Their cocktails are great and many choices on their wine menu.
