I asked if they could fit me in about 15 minutes from now. The lady told me no there was no way. I thought it was kinda funny since their website says walk ins are welcome, what would have happened if I just showed up? So I looked closer to home and read the reviews for Nail Connections. They only had three and a half stars but most of the reviews were really positive with only one or two that didn't like one person here. So I said what the hey, I'll try it. I walked in and was greeted immediately and said of course they could take me. It was a very clean salon that was prettier than some. The gentleman that did my pedicure was very courteous and friendly. My toes turned out quite nicely and I'm sure I'll be back. I took off a star for two reasons. One, because they have some odd polish brands like cover girl and sally hansen mixed in with their Essie and OPI polishes. Second, they don't take regular debit or credit cards. If you still have a card that doesn't have a chip in it they can't swipe your card.

She scolded me for not getting my nails done on a regular basis, and said that at the very least I should get them done once a month. It wasn't advice about caring for my nails and cuticles - it was said with a sneer of disdain. She also tried to upsell me an eyebrow wax, which I do not need (perfect brows- thanks mom!) I never went back to Niles Nails after that first experience. The 2 women working at that time jabbered to each other in their native tongue the entire time I was there, which is just plain rude. Mani-pedi was average. A little too rough on sloughing off the skin on my feet. My heels were sore for the whole next day. Even though this salon is closer to my home, I drive to South Bend to Magic Nails to get my nails done on a regular basis now. Their customer service is far superior, and the care April showed me about the health of my nails, and advice on how to get them to grow stronger, really impressed me, as have the results. I'm not a shill for them. I'm a paying customer.

It's always hard to find a "spur of the moment" salon but my schedule is so tight, I took a chance and called A Step Above. They were able to get me the same day and Christine, my stylist, did an amazing job! I got a combination of a stack/bob style cut. When I sent to pay, I was pleasantly surprised by the balance due. The only thing was they couldn't put the tip on my card so I had to go get cash tip and bring it back. I'm not complaining, just saying plan ahead as I usually do carry cash. 5 stars for this amazing experience.
