I was taking an OTF class nearby, and I asked the front desk receptionist where I could go for breakfast. She suggested the "new bagel shop that always has a line out the door." Admittedly I didn't want to go somewhere I'd have to wait, but she assured me that I was early enough to beat the line. I strolled in PopUp Bagels around 7:30am, and there was no line. The employee at the register was so helpful and patient. I didn't understand the concept at first, but she took the time to explain how I can't just buy 1 bagel nor can I mix and match flavors, specifically shmears and spreads. I didn't like the idea of having to pay for more options, so I reluctantly settled on 3 everything bagels. It came down to scallion cream cheese or rosemary butter, but the staff member convinced me to go with the rosemary butter. I don't think I've ever used this in a review, but THIS BAGEL + BUTTER WAS BUSSIN'. I would go as far as saying that this was the best bagel I've ever had... so much so I texted one of my friends in New York to tell him that PopUp Bagels was better than any spot off the NY streets (I know there's a PopUp Bagel in NYC too). The bagel was freshly baked, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The garlic rosemary butter had the right amount of saltiness and was insanely flavorful. So I discovered PopUp Bagels on Yelp one day and realized how new it was by the reviews and postings about how long the line was. Indeed, I tried to go on a Saturday morning a couple weeks ago and the line was super long! So I tried again last Wednesday and no line! I was surprised at how small it was inside - literally just enough room for a few people to wait in line and a few people to wait for their bagels. Marketing ploy!! The menu is extremely limited. Only four options for bagels, 3 for cream cheese schmears and 3 butters. So I was somewhat underwhelmed, especially when I didn't see my favorite pumpernickel bagel and strawberry schmear, which is a regular for me at another bagel shop around the corner which shall remain unnamed. Needless to say - I understand the hype and it is well deserved. Best bagels that I've tasted in a while. Super crusty yet soft - that delicate balance that makes a bagel perfect and what NYC bagels are famous for. That's how they can make you buy 3 bagels and charge 15 bucks and not regret it! The everything bagel is well - EVERYTHING!! lol They just made some hot fresh ones when I got mine and this one was still hot even after I finished my poppyseed bagel, which was also delicious. They also threw in an extra poppyseed bagel for me at no extra cost which was a nice touch. I also tried the apple pie schmear. Really good! I've been to the PopUp Bagels location in Dallas and knew that I had to check out the new one in Houston when it opened. Gosh their bagels are just so fresh and delicious, and the spreads are incredible! My sister, mom, and I shared 1 plain bagel and 2 salt bagels with the Oishi Berry and scallion shmears. The Oishi Berry was a huge hit, and I was so happy to take the leftovers home for more brekkies. I will say, the salt bagel was maybe a tad bit too salty for my liking, same went with my sister and mom. This isn't really a place to sit inside and hang out, it's more of a grab & go spot. There are some high tables outside, and I saw some people eating at the outdoor seating of other restaurants nearby. There's a decently sized parking lot with self-parking and valet available. There's also garage parking throughout City Centre if you're okay with walking a bit more. The bagels and shmears are a little expensive, but I think they're worth every penny! Highly recommend trying it out, especially this location because the service was quick! read more

Line was long which I appreciate, especially since the store front is small and the line continues outside. The music is insanely loud. So if you have bad hearing, good luck. I doughn't know how this happened but PopUp Bagels is a-dough-rable! Living up to it's hype, PopUp Bagels has been open for a short two weeks and it has been POPPIN indeed. Today the line wasn't down the block and was just a short wait inside. Feeling slightly frantic, I was trying to figure out how it worked. You have a choice of a few different bagels (plain, everything, poppy, salt, and sesame) then you get to decide which spread or "schmear" to put on. The bagels were unbelievably fresh - crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and packed with flavor and not to mention piping hot! The schmear I got was the Cacio E Pepe Butter and it buttery goodness. Only downside - you can't order just one bagel. They won't let you and I don't think their system is programmed to let you. You have to order in a 3, 6, or 12-pack. The staff was super friendly, the service was quick, and the whole experience was fun from start to finish. It's easy to see why this place has such a loyal following. If you're a bagel lover, this is an absolute must- visit. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

PopUp Bagels finally made its way to Houston. The grand opening had the lines wrapped around the sidewalk. There is a designated parking lot that is also shared with other businesses. It's more of a grab and go kind of place but they do have tables outside under the shade. I came here on the third day of the grand opening and only waited 20 minutes in line. The staff came out and took our orders then gave us a to-go bag with the orders marked on it. This made ordering a lot faster since you just have to pay once you get to the front counter. The bagels were put into the to-go bag and only took a minute before they called out your name. The bagels are sold in pack of 3, 6, or 12. The 12 pack gives you 2 schmear options. The 3 and 6 pack came with 1 schmear. They were out of their original schmears and only had the limited options left. I went with the cacio e pepe butter and 3 pack bagels. I chose the sesame, poppy, and everything bagel. The bagels were hot and fresh. A good crunchy texture on the outside and each bagel was fully coated with its topping. The butter schmear was creamy and had a very smooth texture. Hope I can come back to check out their original schmears flavor in the future. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I came during soft opening (great experience) and also came 3 weeks later (waiting a bit long, even though I placed an order for a set pick up time). My favorite bagel is the everything bagel! It deff was made fresh and favorite schmere so far is the scallion and truff. During soft opening, Danilo was super knowledgeable and provided great hospitality. When I came recently, I placed the order for pick up at 11:30 am and didnt leave with my bagels till 11:55. So, I would recommend timing it better if you order online ahead of time. I went here on their grand opening and they had a dj and it seemed organized in a chaotic way. It took about an hour to get the bagels and you can also order online. They have plain bagel flavors like: plain, sesame, everything bagel, and salted. They also have a bunch of different spreads and they rotate it every week. The ones that I tried today were the cacio e Pepe butter, plain, and scallions. I enjoyed the texture of their spreads. It was smooth and creamy. My favorite was the scallion one out of the three. The cacio e Pepe butter one was a bit too salty for me. The parking situation was one downside. My wife and daughter went to the one in NYC a few weeks ago, and they were raving so much about it. My daughter went to the Grand Opening today and waited 1.5 hours to order and came back with 9 bagels and 2 smears (scallion and spicy queso). The bagels were decent. The Everything Bagel seasoning was coated all the way around. The plain was good too. The outside had a good crunch and the inside was nice and doughy. Overall, a decent bagel....better than the big chain ones. The cream cheese was the star. The Scallion Smear was very yummy. Like a fresh version of the onion cream cheese you get at HEB. The Spicy Queso reminded me of pimento cheese. It wasn't that spicy. Overall, I'm not sure if I would drive that far and wait that long for this. Ok I am a peak annoying bagel snob and I got this last time in NYC and loved them, so I was super excited to hear they opened a shop down in Houston too! The bagels had the perfect crispy outer layer and a fluffy soft inside. The everything seasoning was on point. The salt bagel was a lot softer (probably because it had less seasoning on the outside) but also very good. The scallion cream cheese is the right answer to go with these and also incredible. So this was our first time here, and the inside is SO CUTE. It literally feels like you're in NYC. The service was also super fast and efficient. They asked if it was our first time and proceeded to explain all the options and even gave recommendations. Even though the line was long, we got our 3 pack of bagels in like 1 min after ordering. I also feel like the price is pretty reasonable like $15 for 3 plain bagels and a tub of schmear. We got the brown butter cinnamon schmear, and it was so yummy. Tasted like the butter from Texas Roadhouse that everyone's obsessed with. We made the mistake of taking the bagels back with us instead of just eating them there, so the bread did become kind of hard on the outside even though the inside was still soft. We tried the everything, salted, and plain bagels with the Oishii Berry Schmear and Grillo's Hot Pickle Butter, both were amazing. If I could I would rate this spot a 4.5. Each time I've been to NYC popup has always been on my list but couldn't make it there. I was so happy to see they were coming here instead. It's also luckily in an area that I frequent often. The parking is limited and at certain times half of the spots turn into valet parking only but people are always coming and going so I've been able to get a spot each time. I went on a rainy weekday a few days after opening and didn't have to wait in line at all. I had the salt and everything bagel which came out very hot and fresh. For the schmears I got the cacio e Pepe which I later realized is actually a butter instead of cream cheese and the scallion cream cheese. The bagels of course were amazing and I had to eat one quickly in my car while it was fresh. The outside is crispy but the inside is super warm and soft. The cacio e pepe butter is decent but didn't blow me away. Scallion cream cheese was also decent but not the best I've had, there's another bagel spot in Houston that makes a better scallion schmear. I stopped by again today to their seasonal oishi strawberry schmear. The wait was about 15-20 ppl and took about 15 minutes. The strawberry was natural tasting but very mild tasting if I ate it blindfolded I probably wouldn't be able to tell what it was. This left me a little disappointed. Overall, I love their bagels which are so good fresh. They reheat decently at about 350 for 5-6 minutes but with the reheat it's just a slightly better than average bagel. I wish the schmears had more flavor especially since their bagel flavors are limited compared to other places. They also come in a huge size and only last for 2 weeks. I now have 3 huge tubs of butter and schmear and not sure what I can do with them. Pro tip you can preorder online but during busy times the quickest time I've found is one hour out but if you can plan around it you can schedule your pick up time. read more

First and foremost PopUp Bagels is considered big bagel and isn't a mom and pop chain but does however have the flavor only a family of true new yorker's and bagel connoisseurs can appreciate. I went a week after the opening during the world cup fan fest and peak mid-day Houston traffic, there is complimentary valet in the lot that it resides in so it made it less stressful looking for parking. There was a line out the door and I was worried my precious bagel experience might be dim if I got handed a luke warm bagel but boy oh boy was I wrong. Within 2 minutes of placing my order for 2 everything bagels and one Salt bagel , they were calling my name. The bagels if anything were toooo fresh and I had to wait a minute or two before pulling apart the deliciousness within my bagels. There is limited seating outside the restaurant but plenty of public benches and sidewalk space to crouch down on and chow down! Which is exactly what I did, The salt bagel was out of this world tasty with a hint of sea salt. The everything bagel had garlic undertones and was cooked to perfection. The smear that they give you with an order of 3 bagels is enough for 6 at least. I will be back and hope to bring a big appetite for more glorious hot bagels. The experience felt overpriced for what you get, the music was so loud that it was difficult to enjoy being there, and one of my schmear orders was incorrect. I was also surprised that the smallest order available was three bagels with a large container of schmear. As someone dining alone, I would have appreciated the option to order just one bagel with a smaller schmear so I could sample it before committing to more. Additionally, no utensils were provided, which made enjoying the schmear a little inconvenient. The bagel itself seemed more warmed than freshly baked. Within about five minutes of purchasing it--and by the time I had walked over to Barnes & Noble--it had already become hard and difficult to bite into, which was disappointing. The bagels themselves are good quality. They're properly boiled, so you get that crunchy exterior and soft interior that a real bagel should have. That's honestly the only reason this isn't a one star review. The ordering experience today was genuinely frustrating and honestly a little baffling. I ordered a half dozen: 3 plain and 3 poppy. The plain bagels were ready almost right away, but I was told the poppy ones would take a few extra minutes because they had just run out and were making more. Fine, I get it, these things happen. After about 15 minutes, the poppy bagels finally came out, but there were only 4 on the tray. I asked for cream cheese and the gentleman slammed the container in front of me (didn't really bother me but thought it was rude in my eyes). He wrote my order on the bag and I decided to go to shake shack because there was a couple people in front of me and they announce it would take about 5 minutes to get a new batch out. So I walked to shake shack (which is next to the shop) ordered and got back around 4:03 (I understand that I was a little over the time). when I entered it was obviously empty but I was expecting my order to still be there. the guy said we don't have anymore... in my head I'm like I ordered, paid, saw my order be written down on a bag, was informed about the timing of the new bagel, not drastically over the time window... so where is my order? They said they gave it away! I was so angry but I kept calm and got my refund, didn't want to cause problems and understand the struggles but this is unacceptable. I don't want anything in return, I want to try the bagel in the future.
