The barista was very friendly and chatted with me as they made my drink. They also were very patient with my several questions about the bakery. I got a harvest loaf slice (tasty and quite filling actually) and a cardamom latte. Both were quite good. There's only a few seats inside if you're planning to hang out and sip. More seating outside and appears to be dog friendly. I'd recommend it and it does have a cool little record section at the back too. read more

Porchlight coffee is one our neighborhood coffee shops here in Capitol Hill. They offer a small selection of coffee, tea, beer, and pastries. They have a very relaxed vibe and only seats like 20 people (including outdoor seating) so it doesn't get packed. It's a little too relaxed for me though as I prefer coffee shops that have a more exciting and lively vibe. Porchlight is my go-to if I want something more than just black coffee because it's right next to my office. Their new item is the turmeric latte (shown in photo) which consists of milk, turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, and a tiny bit of sugar. I'm trying to consume more turmeric for its known health benefits and I love that Porchlight offers this latte. read more

There's something about a spot that flies so under the radar that you pass by the entrance two or three times. Tbh, I came here waiting on a breakfast reservation and didn't even know this café existed. I was pleasantly surprised to visit this coffee shop though and upon entering it felt "comfy", maybe it was the school house looking chairs or the simplistic layout of the store setting, but it was just that, comfy. I enjoyed a sesame bagel and chai latte that was quite tasty. Sitting at the little bar top area near the window while watching passerby's go about their business makes you feel a part of the community. Overall, good experience and would recommend anybody to come visit to have a nice cup of coffee to make this apart of your morning/day. read more

Pretentious barista or owner (tall guy) whose responses to my questions were curt. When asked which coffee selections they have (as some coffeeshops have house-made specialty drinks), he just pointed to the menu. When asked about wifi, spoke quickly without making eye contact. I thought he was this snobbish to everyone, but his tone turned friendly towards other customers who looked hip or were white. So disappointing!! Never returning here. read more

Struck out at Regent, ended up having brunch instead at Nue, and noticed Porchlight Coffee and Records next door. Even spotted a nearby neighborhood resident in pjs bringing back coffee to their building...must be tasty to compel someone to get out of bed! Nice vibe, pleasant barista, loved the vinyl in the back, and lots of natural light. Also seems to be a decent spot for the laptop/WiFi crowd. I sat at the table by the door to absorb some of the cafe's chill atmosphere. Mocha was enjoyable, and Herkimer beans as an fyi. The music was soothing, a little too soothing and counterintuitive drinking caffeine. I was being like a cat...catch a sun beam perch and feeling sleepy. Took the rest of my mocha to go and off to the Frye Art Museum as my next stop. read more

Coffee and Records, basically sums up the beauty of Porchlight Coffee in Seattle! And I will have to say that is also sums up a lot of my favorite Seattlelites! It's like the black vinyl and hot caffeine run through their veins in these parts. My brother doesn't work far from here so it was a must on the recent Seattle visit! I am also a gigantic Kyler Martz fan, all his art and in the recent years, tattoo work! Lucky for me there was cool Martz art for purchase. I felt it was most appropriate to snag a record player slipmat with a classic nautical look. The girl working here was an absolute sweetheart and I wish I would have caught her name for a proper shout out. There is also a nice selection of records and I adore when they are spinning something that catches my ear and I have to own! My niece and nephew fully enjoyed the array of treats and decided on donuts and hot chocolates. What can I say, we are a family of sweet tooths! read more

Visited Seattle from out of state and were having a hard time finding good coffee in Seattle! I was pretty unimpressed with Seattle until I told my Uber driver about my thoughts and she recommended Porchlight- said their coffee was good. She also said if we liked it, the coffee beans come from a roaster called Herkimer. We were extremely tired but needed to try this place for a mid day pick me up. Very simple interior inside, but it was nice and quiet. The barista was super nice and friendly. We liked our drinks- Americano and a mocha. Their coffee has a sweet and cinnamon-y taste, reminded us of Mexican Cafe de Olla. Nice place, and one of the few decent coffee shops in Seattle! Visit when in town! read more

I used to be a frequent customer but will not be returning. I came in after finding myself in a bind to get a bit of a charge on my phone. Some guy who I'm assuming is the owner came up to me and asked me to leave because I had not yet purchased a coffee. I had been sitting down for about 5 minutes before I was told that I could not be there. I looked around and noticed that I was the only person of color there. I was targeted because I didn't fit in. After politely letting this guy know that I could not believe he was treating me this way I walked up and left. Never again. Walked in because I was looking for a place to sit with my dog and work for a bit. It was indeed a dog friendly coffee shop with dog friendly patrons. The friendliness of the barista let me take a chance on getting scone. Low stakes right? No, scones are dumb and bad unless baking wizards make them, and this blueberry pastry was pretty good. More impressively, I took my headphones out. I normally leave them in because the mandatory "Band of Horses Spotify Channel for Coffee Shops" is lame, but again, no, not a problem here. The barista actually played full albums and good ones, Monster Rally, which was big for me last year was super cool to listen to in a mellow coffee shop. 5 stars for the DJ, the barista, the dog greeter (all same person) and the gestalt of it all. read more

Porchlight is as good as it gets. It was walking distance from my friends apartment, super chill at 9am and ordering was no fuss. Open space plan and high ceilings inside: we sat up by the front window and sipped our almond milk cappuccinos (my go-to coffee order). The barista whipped and foamed up the almond milk nicely and I have mad respect when they can do that with a non-dairy milk. We sat by the window and slowly sipped our java, enjoying the moment. I'm definitely into this cute little coffee shop/record store combo. It's cozy, hospital, and pulls a mean shot of espresso. The staff is friendly, and because it's a record store, the music is generally good. If it's not to my tastes, at least I know it was thoughtfully selected! While it's not my first choice for places to work from in the neighborhood, they do have a few tables, a comfy sofa, and free wifi. Maybe don't work here all day and host meetings, but if you need to crank out 30 minutes of work, this is a great place to do it. That being said, I'm more into this place as an option for when I'm visiting friends and want to walk in and grab a quick and quality coffee drink. Even if I'm getting donuts at say General Porpoise or Mighty-O or a bagel and lox from Westman's, I still reject their coffee and head over to Porchlight. I've been here 10+ times since I live right across and it's convenient. but every single time, the guy (owner) has the strangest attitude. Rude but not out right rude in a way. He'll talk to the people he wants to and treat others in a very short manner. I've brought many friends in with me and they all say the same things that the guy is rude/short to customers. Just seems like an unhappy, unwelcoming place. Coffee is also very mediocre, espresso shots are poorly made and lacks consistency. Go to URL if you want a nice coffee shop in Cap Hill! Pretentious, rude, ok coffee. AVOID!!! On 8/4/18 I went to get a coffee at around 11am. I was first in line and the server was making a coffee for someone else but he asked me what I wanted. I replied "a breve latte please." He then said "can't you see I'm helping someone else?" I first didn't do anything and paced around for 5 minutes and he still wasn't finished...but then came back and said "could you just make me a breve latte and I'll go sit down?" He responded, "no, you'll have to wait inline until I'm done." To which I said, "you know I'm the customer and you're the server; why can't you just make it and/or tell me when I can order?" It kind of sucks to just wait for him when there's no reason. And I wanted to sit bc I have a back issue. His response, "get out, you can leave." It's pretty embarrassing to be treated with such disrespect by an arrogant barista when I just wanted to buy a coffee. This place should learn manners. Easy to love Porchlight and make it your next coffee again. Service was great. The barista (/owner?) was very kind and conversational. My latte was just what I hoped. I know this is picky, but I really appreciate it when my coffee beverages are filled all the way to the top but not spilling over the sides (so precise - I know!) and Porchlight did so perfectly. Employee (the cute one with lots of tattoo) attitude is shit, arrogant and act like I am their employee. The Asian dude in line before me got treat with the same attitude. After taking 10 mins to chat with some guys and let me and that guy wait in line. After all the attitude, taking my order, she put the tea on the table, turned around and walked away to do her stuffs. I had to turn the ipad around myself to sign after pay and add tips. wtf is that? lol or is it because I'm Asian and she thinks I wont tip? Porchlight has a great cold brew. I came here on a cooler Seattle morning and it was a nice cafe that screams hipster. Get a cold brew, pay in cash (for purchases under $5), and slow down and read a book at the table or type away on your computer. Highly recommend for your morning cup of joe! read more

If you're lucky there will be a dog around. I've never really bought vinyl here, but the Porchlight merch (pins and stuff) are always clever and cute.
