I'm a bit surprised to see a less than stellar rating on this. I've been a handful of times for lunch, and I've always thought it was good value, good service, and good quality food. They have a good lunch menu with pretty reasonable prices on the different dishes available, and the food comes out pretty quickly. The space is quite large, and I've never seen it crowded when I've been there. You order at the counter, and if dining in, they bring the food to the table for you. Seems like a good number of people order the food for takeout, though. Food quality is great - really good meat choices, and I'm always a fan of the plantains as the side dish. I've often gotten the BBQ chicken, which has great flavor throughout and the meat is nice and juicy. It's a solid local choice for a good quick meal! read more

Nice place for BBQ! The food is freshly grilled to order, so be patient as it takes some time (25 minutes) to cook. We had the combo plate of short ribs and Hawaiian chicken. The Hawaiian chicken was juicy and flavorful. The short ribs were also very good. The fries and black beans are standard, there is an up charge for other side options. This successful Portuguese/Philippine BBQ house has recently expanded to three locations (Flemington & Middlesex) in addition to their anchor kitchen in Ewing, NJ. It has adapted to its constituency by braiding its menu to cover more South/Central American tastes with things like empanadas, Brazilian steak and tres leches cake, as well as its nearly Polish neighbors with kielbasa sandwiches and platters. Their uniqueness comes from their cooking style - open pit hot coal rotisserie that is visible from the cashier's perch. Not only is it entertaining to watch chicken and pork/beef ribs doing that slow spinning tango, but the aroma from the juices dripping onto the hot ash creates a strong reaction in your mouth and stomach that sets the mood for a BBQ meat feast. Just sit down, relax and enjoy the wait. You may not want to leave. There is a downside to this style of meat prep, in that it does not involve a traditional American smoker, so the finish is not as tender. The meat does not simply pull off the bone, but requires some effort with knife & fork or incisors. It is still delicious, but may not be what was expected. We ordered half pork ribs/pork Hawaiian BBQ combo, with sides of black beans and corn bread, as well as 3 empanadas (chicken/beef) as apps. It took about 20 minutes for preparation and packaging for takeout. I chatted up the cashier Dory with questions about the business. She was friendly and happy to share what she knew. We had enough food for four people. Everything was tasty and distinct enough from American BBQ to appreciate the differences. Special mention to the pork Hawaiian which had a mild sweetness from its marinade that was pineapple inflected, and the ribs which had the anticipated smoky savory flavor. Black beans were decent, and the corn bread a soft rather than dense texture. Overall, a quality meal with plenty left over. It's easy to see why Pork Chops is successful. Next time they expand I hope they consider coming across the Delaware River into Bucks County. We have plenty of room for something this different and fun to eat. read more

I first discovered Pork Chop's BBQ at the Flemington location. But since Flemington was a lot further away from me, I was pleased when I found a location closer to where I was commuting at the time. The Ewing location is just a short drive from the Hamilton Train Station and a terrific spot to order takeout for the family on your way back home from work. The business specializes in Portuguese BBQ (which I had never had before), and it is AMAZING. I'm a big fan of BBQ and Hispanic food, so the dishes they serve here are right up my alley. There is a wide assortment of items to choose from, like beef ribs, pork ribs, Hawaiian food, salmon, paella, etc., that are both tasty and affordable. Check out the menu and see for yourself! 1st Impression is your only impression...I placed an order and I live a good 25-30min away. I placed the order at 15:30 for pick up at 16:30....i get here and they didn't even start on my order. So now I have to wait 20min. So this ordeal has already got me annoyed. And took an hour and 1/2 out of my Sunday which I was only hoping an hour. I asked the cashier, time is money and can you compensate me for the delay. Free dessert or money off. Crickets. I drove too far to cancel the order to prove a point but my review may change after I taste the food. I had no intention of going here on that day , I did notice it on Yelp months ago, but I guess it didn't make much of an impression. But my plan to try Georgian food was foiled( restaurant was locked up with no sign as to why) so I did what any Yelper would do, a local Yelp search. I noticed this interesting business again, and it was less than a mile away from the Trenton Farmers market. I was hoping for tacos but not on the menu, then I saw it, sirloin steak sandwich. I knew it would not be a Philly style, but I've had some good luck with it's thicker cousin too. And empanadas have not let me down as of late, 2 each of beef and chicken. I thought it kind of ironic that this is housed next to a gym in the smaller building in this strip mall complex. And with lurid graphics outside. I could smell the food as soon as I pulled into my spot. It's a casual but recently updated shop with a few seating areas that contain a total of 12 or more tables. I could clearly see a charcoal rotisserie set up at the front of the open kitchen, that was promising. This Portuguese/Pilipino shop also does bubble teas. And that was causing a delay, the customer service employee was in charge of making those and had a few orders to fill when I walked in. Eventually I was acknowledged and told my order was almost ready. I inquired about the rice pudding I saw in the dessert case and added one to my order. It took a bit longer than I expected to get home, so I was worried about the roll. But as I unwrapped it all seemed well. This reminded me of an IPB torp, and it was overflowing with thick steak slabs. They didn't have provolone, when I asked what kind of cheese was available, the reply was "yellow". So I did without, just sautéed onions and for some reason a few pieces of lettuce and thin tomato slices. The onions were nicely cooked too, on reflection I should have had peppers added. The steak was 95% completely tender and well seasoned too. I was enjoying a thicker bite to this meat. I'd get again, with just peppers and onions. I had the empanadas for another meal. They were also unique. The dough was likely wheat( I prefer corn) but it had a sweet flavor so may have been mixed with something else, but very crisp and tasty. The filling of chicken was large chunks of white meat in a bbq style sauce unlike any I've had. Very good. The beef had a similar flavoring but maybe less of it, with ground beef. I'd reorder both again, and they were a bargain at $2 each. The steak came with good fries too. As for the rice pudding, it was very good. A generous dusting of cinnamon on top, dense and creamy with perfectly cooked rice. I rarely order rice pudding, it's kind of a nostalgia thing for me. This was a comforting version. I'm close to this shop often so I plan on trying a Pilipino dish or combo next time. Well worth a try if you are nearby and looking for something a bit different. read more

This place is awesome. For anyone that is familiar with north jersey, this is really more like a churrasqueria. There is a giant rotating BBQ pit in there and all the meats are so nicely marinated and seasoned. The portions are substantial and all the prices are reasonable. The most extreme value is if you are feeding a family or large group and get the family package which includes sides. Their fries are comparable to five guys and the other sides are all on point. Me and the guys from the office usually get the large family package. Keep in mind, we are gluttons and it is more than enough for all of us to feast. I highly recommend. My husband had the 1/2 chicken, plantains & black beans. Both the ribs and chicken were tender and delicious. We were given a basket of bbq sauce to accompany our meals. Really not very good. I ordered the picahna steak, the cucumber salad and mozzarella sticks and all three were very unappealing looking and tasted mediocre. The picahna steak was tough and unflavorful. The mozzarella sticks were stingy (4?) and buried in french fries, also unpleasantly salty. I have worked at a Portuguese restuarant and I can ASSURE you this is NOT authentic Portugese food which is misleading! There are certain dishes that are not made the way they should be made, such as the Picadinho, which is served very dry at this place and should have more sauce. This dish should also have the option of adding sausage and it DOES NOT. After moving out of the Newark area I was excited about this place but I am really disappointed. I was expecting more flavor and seasoning such as ANY authentic Portuguese place would be. They do not even have Portuguese rolls to offer nor did they know about this type of bread!
