The wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizza? Phenomenal. Crust so good it deserves its own fan base…read more But service is a gamble--some staff are great, others act like you've interrupted their mop break. Mopping seems to be their favorite pastime. Industrial floor cleaner aroma while you eat? A given. Asked to sit in a certain section but was told it was unavailable due to mopping--only to watch a couple and a Latin family get seated there minutes later. This has happened more than once, and it's hard not to notice the pattern. Drinks? $3.99 across the board, from fountain soda to Jarritos. To-go orders come with a "convenience" fee. Tip with a card? Another surcharge, and the servers don't even get those tips directly. Pizza: worth the hype. Everything else? A mess, literally and figuratively.

Parking is pretty decent for the area, with at least one handicapped space right in front of the entrance door. Walking in was surprisingly cozy, with wood on the walls and muted colors for the seating. We were greeted on entry and seated quickly. Seating is a mix of tables and booths. Our waitress left menus and took our drink order as we sat down. The menu is rather extensive. The primary cuisine is Mexican, but they also offer traditional recipe pizzas as well as chicken wings. Many dishes are cooked in a wood fired oven. Our drinks came quickly, and we still needed time to make our selections. After a few more minutes, our waitress returned and we placed our orders. We did not receive any salsa and chips for the table, which was a bit surprising for a Mexican restaurant. We decided to order their homemade guacamole to start. The appetizer came out in maybe five minutes. The portion was much smaller than expected, and the guacamole was bland. It needed a good addition of both salt and garlic to improve the flavor. In addition, the chips were straight from the bag, without even being warmed. The food took about ten minutes or so to be brought to the table. The Pollo a la lena is two wood fired pieces of chicken, along with salad, refried beans, and rice. It also comes with your choice of wheat or corn tortillas. The chicken was tender and juicy, very well spiced with additional flavor from the wood oven. The refried beans are not the typical gray mush but actually have noticeable black beans. The rice was typical, but included corn, peas, and carrot pieces for additional flavor. The salad included crisp lettuce and diced tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos. The corn tortillas are made in house and compared well to the other components of the dish. I would absolutely order this outstanding dish again. The pollo loco was another good dish. The ratio of chicken to rice was good, and the amount of cheese was less than typical, which allowed more of the other flavors to come through. The asada torta was also good. The ingredients were plentiful compared to the bread, and everything seemed fresh and very flavorful. Even the french fries were well made. The chimichanga was the least liked dish, but still tasted good. It was prepared well and had a nice cheese topping. On it's own it would be a good choice, only suffering in comparison to the other outstanding dishes. One word of caution: the salsa accompanying the pollo a la lena and the torta is surprisingly spicy. The heat is deceptive, coming on slowly and lingering awhile. Although I was surprised at first taste, I included it in every bite of chicken, so it is addictive. Based on this visit, I definitely want to try more options from the menu, especially the pizzas.

They were both just super bland. No flavor at all. Mine had mushy tomatoes on it. His had nothing but meat & cheese. No mayo. No lettuce. Both of our fries were cold so we told a server walking by. She asked us to remove our sandwiches from the basket and she would get us more fries. Then she said she would just bring us more fries. She brought out fries a few minutes later that were as cold as the first ones. We just didn't eat them. We also placed an order to take to the hospital for friends. They only got half of the 2 item order correct. I gave 2 stars and reduced it to 1 after we waited an additional 20 minutes after writing the review and getting the wrong to go order. No apologies just an excuse that the kitchen had an issue.

Sarah, our server, was efficient, friendly and went the 2nd mile to give great service! The Southern jalapeño burger is huge! I loved the Cajun fries. If I could suggest, have the chef tweak the hot wings sauce and onion ring batter. The burger was okay but a tweak would make it even better. Great place to catch a game or just hang out!!

Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.

They apologized and gave me a few more to compensate. The service stations have large whole wings. So I've not been back in years. I saw the sign which read gizzard & livers, cooked to order. My husband said he'd like a small order of wings. I warned him but, he said maybe they've gotten better. Well, on Mon & Tues wings are .69cent ea, ordered 10. I ordered livers for $6.99. We received our order. There was a small container with 10 wings. A large one with my livers. But, before that we paid our bill, which also asked if we wanted to leave a tip. My bill was $15 so I didn't leave a tip. Well, after a few minutes we received our order. A few wings looked like they had been cooked that morning or leftover from Sat night. Check out the pictures. I asked that my livers not be over cooked. Well they were. I would've gone back for a refund but my husband didn't want to go back & deal with it. So, this is what I'm telling you, don't know if it was due to us not leaving a tip or what. But, this was the last time I'll ever get anything from Heavenly Wings.
