This is the perfect spot for a quick BBQ meal after hiking at the nearby Old Stone Fort State Park. The service is friendly small town Southern Hospitality at its best. The pulled pork is as good as I've had anywhere. The BBQ beans and mac and cheese were just okay so the meat is the star of the show. Try the hot BBQ sauce and you won't regret it. The half sweet half unsweet tea was perfect. There's no inside seating here, just a couple tables outside. They do take credit cards here too. Unassuming little shack on the side of the road with good simple BBQ! You order at the window or can pull up to the drive-thru window. Ladies there were very nice! I ordered the Pork Plate ($10.29) with Coleslaw and Mac-n-cheese. It comes with sauces and they ask if you want regular or hot. Food comes out hot and quick. Stopped by to get 2 pork sandwiches since I had been there some time back and it was so good...well that had all changed! It tasted like it was from a frozen bq and was on a Jr bun. Got the slaw on the side .may have been 2 tablespoons of bq on each sandwich and a tiny bit of slaw. 15.00 + .Needless to say we won't be back. 2 years ago I would have given them 5 stars...no where near what it was. read more

We found this place on our way back home from Nashville and decided to stop. At first glance, it's nothing special, nothing pretentious. It's just really a shack that you walk up to and get food. But the woman behind the window was incredibly friendly, there are benches to sit at outside or you can sit in your vehicle. Most people seem to get their food to go and that's OK too. It's right along the edge of a highway so it gets decent traffic. But this is not your whole hog barbecue place. What you're going to get is chopped barbecue. The sauce is good that comes on the side - I like the hot sauce just a little bit better than the regular. The typical special seems to be a sandwich chips on the side and a drink. But they also have chopped brisket and a couple of other sides like coleslaw and white beans. They have pies for dessert. This little shack proves the old adage that you don't have to do everything to be successful, you just have to do what you do well! We were in the middle of a 25 Hour Dr. from the upper Midwest to Miami Florida. We pulled off from the interstate to stretch for a break. We happen to drive past this small barbecue mini barn type building that smelled like barbecue heaven. We ordered sliced, brisket and pulled pork. I was completely amazed about how much flavor the meat had, and how tender and juicy it was. The coleslaw, the macaroni and cheese right down to the buttered bread was perfect. The lady that had served us understood that this was a to go order and went out of her way to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The price was reasonable, especially for the amount of food and the high-quality flavor. I only wish that we had lived closer. I highly recommend this joint to anyone that appreciates GOOD BBQ. This place was so good. I was in Manchester for bonnaroo and wanted a good meal before camping out. There are very few options. I wasn't sure about trying this place because the few reviews they have - they're not bad, there just aren't many. I'm so happy I took the chance because this is some of the best barbecue I've had in a while. The pork was cooked perfectly with a great smoky flavor yet not dry. They have white beans which were also good. I had baked beans - they do have onions in them which I do not like onions, but I ordered them knowing this and they were still very pleasant with great flavor. The mild and hot sauce seem homemade and they are impeccable. It seems like a little family owned place which I'm happy to support. It's cute and the service was good and quick. There was no line when I arrived but several people pulled in behind me. I wish I wasn't so far from Manchester because I'd be a regular at this place. I'm sure I'll make the drive out just for the barbecue again at some point though. read more

I've lived here for about 13 years now and have never stopped in. Since I've been mentioning this place as a food option I thought I'd best try it. Glad I did. Mediocre beef at best. I ordered what I thought was a half lb of brisket but maybe just 'beef' which would explain the over salted, mushy chuck roast I got Took about five minutes to get it BTW which would normally be ok but I was the only one there the whole time. I was told their hot bbq sauce was Franks mixed in the regular, which I ordered and it was meh. I'll try again with a diff meat and update if results are different. read more

Yes-sirree friends, if you're tired of the big box barbecue joints then Porky's Pit B B Q is THE PLACE. And the locals have voted it Manchester's Finest and I agree wholeheartedly. It's walk-up or drive-through service, only. They accommodate sit down dining outside at two picnic tables and that's it. Service is quick, food is excellent. They're a cash only business so bring money with you. I'd be big as they building they work in if I lived closer and could get there more frequently. I had a rib dinner with beans and coleslaw and it was excellent. A little greasy but hey, we're eating barbecue, right? My other half had smoked turkey and imagine her surprise to find real turkey vs. processed turkey pieces/slices. That too, was excellent. In fact the leftovers traveled the rest of the way to Florida with us. I'd strongly suggest this little gem in Manchester and it's just a hop, skip and a jump off Interstate 24. read more

Eh well. It was just meh for me. Turkey sandwich was kinda dry and didn't have much taste. The hot sauce was not hot at all, in fact it was bland and watery. The coleslaw was marginally better, fresh and crunchy, but again lacking in seasoning. Kind of a weird little shack out in the middle of no where, doubtful I will take the time to stop by again. I'd always thought BBQ was kind of foolproof, but apparently not. The brisket was bone-dry, a little salty but otherwise bland (husband's verdict: "It tastes dirty."). We even asked for extra sauce and it soaked it up without making any apparent difference. Not that the sauce was so great - both it and sides tasted like they came out of a can. My husband has lived in the south and said it was the worst BBQ he has ever had - and it was so bad, in fact, that although we were both starving neither of us could get down more than half our plates. Pork sandwich was below average. They have no fries so I got potato chips. They were stale. Sweet tea was good. Prices very reasonable, and drive through was convenient. They don't take credit cards though. Server/cashier was friendly, and food was served quickly. The meat was amazingly tender, has the pulled pork sandwich. Wasn't crazy about the sauce, but I only tried the hot and the quality of the meat and flavor of the beans more than made up for it. Was a little disappointed the pecan pie was a pre packaged Sara Lee pie(I'm admittedly in tourist mode and trying to try as many of the local flavors as I can. That said, it was still pretty good. I love this place. It's near my in-laws and we go several times each time we travel to Manchester. We usually get the pulled pork meat. Ribs are not good. For ribs go to Praters. Well worth a visit. It's all take-out, not a sit-down place. read more

I really wanted to like this place. You know, you're visiting the area and wanting to support local economy and all. Sadly though, that totally did not happen. Two of the three adults got the uummm "ribs". What I don't understand is how ribs had no individual ribs. They were just a lumpy piece of meat with a large cartilage looking piece running horizontally along one side and the texture of that gelatinous square of dog food that comes in a can and has the cute white dog on the label (not mentioning any names as to not insinuate that I'm insulting the dog food). My husband said his pulled pork was average. The kids ate all of the fries but it was a no go on the chicken fingers which are generally impossible to mess up. The sides were average. I didn't do anything more than taste all of the items. My SIL was a bit more adventurous and ate about half of her "ribs" (but she's the pleasing type and probably didn't want to upset us plus I'm sure she was starving). Very disappointing. read more

When I visit the area, I always zip by here and pick up a couple of them to take to the office. Great, friendly, service. I am going to try their ribs next time. Another Tennessee classic.
