Bandana compliments of Beach Lodge!!
Gail H.

Great ambiance and fabulous staff!! Dog friendly deck (only 1 area is dog friendly) and breakfast is super yum. Do a walk on the beach and then enjoy a mimosa and the taquitos (think breakfast taco. Not fried!) or a breakfast sandwich!!

Came here for a bite with a beach view and so glad we did! I really wanted a place to go by the water and it most other restaurants by the water in Port A are by marinas and not the actual beach. It's not fancy, the building rather old (since 1969!) and some "Karens" out there might even turn and leave running and screaming esp they saw the restroom, but it was exactly what I was hoping and looking for regarding a relaxing outdoor lunch where I could watch the waves while we catch a break from the sun and grab a quick bite. Yes, it's attached to a small beach lodge/motel you can only book by phone or by showing up in person (feels like stepping by back in time being here/there). But you don't need an active lodge reservation and the restaurant and bar is open to all. Menu/options at first seemed a little limited/questionable in regard to vegetarian-friendly options (saw the old yellow menus online) so I was a little nervous about finding something to eat so we chose to come for a light lunch instead of dinner since we weren't sure what to expect. However we arrived and found the menus had been updated from the ones I'd seen online and had way more options added which was a delight, who doesn't like options? They have scrumptious-looking breakfast options (we'll have to come back for breakfast, my fave), everything seemed reasonably priced. We each ordered a mimosa and thought they were strong (but not too strong they weren't tasty). Would definitely come back just for drinks (but I'm positive we would order food too haha). I've been to many of the establishments in Port Aransas and I think this might be my favorite spot due to the wonderful view, super laid-back vibe and charm/history of the establishment. Haven't stayed at the lodge itself but may in the future for the full experience, can't beat the proximity to the ocean. Looking forward to returning

Right off the Beach, The Beach Lodge has a little bit of all the simple everything's you may want for the Tiki Beach Stay. From a fabulous view, to customer service from Kimberly, to cold beer and the ability to stay and eat. We Enjoyed Kimberlys sweet customer service and hanging out with others who stopped in to grab a bite. Cold Coronas are a must, Best koozies on the Island, and then great snack foods. We had the Loaded fries that were alright, as well as burgers, blt, mashed potatoes, potato salad. The food is nothing more than bar food, and no one could handle the Potato Salad. But the fact that the location and customer service was so great, we probably would come back to at least enjoy some ice cold beers.

Ocean view on the patio.

Ask the Community - Port A Beachlodge

Can anyone tell me what the rooms are like? I don't need super fancy but I want a clean place free of roaches.

The rooms were clean but nothing fancy. Our refrigerator had rust all over the front of it. I noticed that the side of the mattress was pretty dirty. Didn't see any bugs.…

Yes, the food may be greasy, the beer may be cheap, but that's kind of the charm of the Beach Lodge and Port A.

The hotel advertises that it serves breakfast, but don't be fooled. This is not a continental breakfast by any stretch. For a group of four, we were given a total of six possible items to choose from--including drinks. The "menu" consisted of a croissant, a muffin, a breakfast bar, juice, or water. That's it. One person would have to choose between having a drink or a very lackluster snack--not both. The pool is listed as an amenity, yet it was completely shut down and coated in green algae. When we arrived at our room, we noticed a row of random office-style chairs lined up outside in the main walkway, directly beneath a "No Smoking" sign. Below them sat three ashtray cups. Nearby was a man wearing an oversized black shirt, oversized shorts, sunglasses, and a crossbody fanny pack. He stared at us in a way that felt uncomfortable and unsafe. He wandered around the property, and we eventually realized he worked there. His appearance and suspicious behavior did not resemble hotel staff in any professional sense, and the overall vibe was unsettling. Opening the door to our room was the final straw. The overwhelming smell of mold, mildew, and cigarettes hit us instantly--so strong we could barely breathe. Nothing in the reviews or advertisements prepared us for this. Even the shower was coated in dark grime, clearly not cleaned or disinfected for quite some time. The sheets were dirty, walls were dirty, sink was dirty. Just so unsanitary. It made my skin crawl and you can't even breathe the air in the room. When we stepped back outside, the front desk attendant was right there, chain-smoking one cigarette after another. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This place is nothing like what it claims to be. I don't understand how this place has such great reviews. This is the biggest catfish I've ever experienced. Someone must be buying people off.

Very clean rooms, with enough hot water for 4 people to take showers back to back. The beds were a little lumpy, but nothing bad...I still slept great. It has a nice little pool area with a high fence around it for privacy from the nearby rooms. We heard that there were going to be complimentary breakfast goodies when we booked the room, but never received it/ were unsure how to make it happen. We checked in late so maybe we missed the opportunity to order it.

This time around my sister and brother in law and thier kids also came along for the first time. Becky the property manager greeted us as we arrived at our 4pm check-in. She explained everything in detail and walked us through the cabin and made us feel very welcomed. The unique one story cabins are arranged in a horseshoe configuration and are named according to their theme, and in the middle a beautiful courtyard is shared with gueats. We actually stayed in their latest newly remodeled two story cabin called The Marlin. It's located right next to the main property. At night it's very safely lit and your vechicals are parked under the structure. It sleeps 10 with two full baths and all the amenities you need to make your stay enjoyable. It has a second story large balcony and a small third story balcony as well. Access to the beach is at walking distance or a short drive. After hurricane Harvey the cabins sustained damage and there was even a waterline marker when the storm surge came in. After alot of hard work and tireless vollenteers the newly remodeled cabins are better than ever. Becky was even kind enough to show us inside The Rock and Roll cabin and the remarkable improvements they made. The Dancing Dunes is highly recommend which ever cabin you stay in. Check out their Facebook page or website to make reservations in advance because they do fill up quickly. We're definitely coming back next year and can't wait to make memories again.

While not in perfect condition, the room was thoughtfully designed with flat surfaces and hooks where needed. It was nice to have a woodgrain floor and no carpet. There was also a futon for extra seating but it was not comfortable. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets had some areas with rough texture. The tub/shower was clean. The tub was slick. There was adequate water pressure and plenty of hot water. Prior to arrival, I was able to do most parts of checking in online. On arrival I only had to show an ID and agree to pay damages if I smoked or made a mess, and to specify whether or not we wanted housekeeping visits and what we wanted them to do. We opted out. Breakfast was surprisingly very good on the first morning, a Tuesday. Weekday hours were limited to 7-9 am, 10 am on weekends. There was lots of variety in hot foods, juices, and yogurt. There was a pancake-wrapped sausage on a stick, 2 varieties of eggs, some very good bacon, tortillas and grated cheese for those wanting breakfast tacos, and other goodies. There were 2 waffle machines and 2 batter flavors. The attendant was very friendly and helpful. I watched her retrieve bottled water for some people and bus others' tables. This was not the usual motel "free breakfast" experience, but something much better. The second morning was not as good. As one example, the pancake-wrapped sausages weren't fully heated, there were no tortillas, and the attendant didn't seem so into her job. The breakfast room is extremely cramped, but there are overflow spaces in the hallway and outdoors. This motel was a good value for us and better than a previous experience at this location. Maybe it's because we became platinum rewards members on this trip, but we can't be sure.

I ended up reaching out to Lauren at Silver Sands and I am so glad I did. She hooked us up in the CUTEST place at the Old Town Cottages. We were in unit #14 and it was ADORABLE! It was brand new and even had that new condo smell. The details, décor and over-all feel of the place was very high end. We were only there three nights, but I can see using this for a longer stay. It was just the two of us, but the room with the bunks would allow us to bring our kids and have enough space for everyone. The smart TVs in both bedrooms and the living area is enough to keep everyone entertained with their own thing, and the golf cart that came with the rental was a blast. Wifi was strong and allowed for streaming and catching up on work here and there. The only somewhat negative thing I will say about unit 14 is that it was up some pretty steep stairs (above the retail shops) and so the up/down when unloading and loading was not fun. When we return, we will try to reserve one of the full cottages that are stand-alone one-story cottages. The location is great...smack dab in the middle of everything and steps away from some great bars and restaurants. When we ventured out further, it was so much fun to putter around in our golf card. We are so glad to have Lauren and this sweet little spot play a role in our special weekend. Check-in was simple and easy, and upon entering our first-floor room (1109), the room smelled fresh and clean. During our inspection of the bedding, we noticed a boot print and some yellow stains on the top blanket. There were also a few stains on the towels. Fortunately, this was not a major issue for us since we brought our own sheets and towels. The fitted sheets on both beds appeared new and clean. The bathroom itself was clean, and the barn-style door added a cute aesthetic touch, although it seemed more decorative than functional and did not provide much privacy. The room lighting was excellent, with recessed can lights throughout the space that gave it a bright and modern feel. One inconvenience was that the room did not initially include the microwave listed in the room description. However, after contacting the front office, the staff was very friendly and accommodating and delivered one the following day. At night, the exterior lighting around the property was extremely bright and shined through the edges of the curtains, making it difficult to sleep. We ended up placing towels around the curtain edges to block out the light. The pool area was clean and well maintained, with a depth reaching 6 feet. The location directly on the beach was definitely one of the highlights of the stay.
