Bandana compliments of Beach Lodge!!
Gail H.

Great ambiance and fabulous staff!! Dog friendly deck (only 1 area is dog friendly) and breakfast is super yum. Do a walk on the beach and then enjoy a mimosa and the taquitos (think breakfast taco. Not fried!) or a breakfast sandwich!!

Came here for a bite with a beach view and so glad we did! I really wanted a place to go by the water and it most other restaurants by the water in Port A are by marinas and not the actual beach. It's not fancy, the building rather old (since 1969!) and some "Karens" out there might even turn and leave running and screaming esp they saw the restroom, but it was exactly what I was hoping and looking for regarding a relaxing outdoor lunch where I could watch the waves while we catch a break from the sun and grab a quick bite. Yes, it's attached to a small beach lodge/motel you can only book by phone or by showing up in person (feels like stepping by back in time being here/there). But you don't need an active lodge reservation and the restaurant and bar is open to all. Menu/options at first seemed a little limited/questionable in regard to vegetarian-friendly options (saw the old yellow menus online) so I was a little nervous about finding something to eat so we chose to come for a light lunch instead of dinner since we weren't sure what to expect. However we arrived and found the menus had been updated from the ones I'd seen online and had way more options added which was a delight, who doesn't like options? They have scrumptious-looking breakfast options (we'll have to come back for breakfast, my fave), everything seemed reasonably priced. We each ordered a mimosa and thought they were strong (but not too strong they weren't tasty). Would definitely come back just for drinks (but I'm positive we would order food too haha). I've been to many of the establishments in Port Aransas and I think this might be my favorite spot due to the wonderful view, super laid-back vibe and charm/history of the establishment. Haven't stayed at the lodge itself but may in the future for the full experience, can't beat the proximity to the ocean. Looking forward to returning

Right off the Beach, The Beach Lodge has a little bit of all the simple everything's you may want for the Tiki Beach Stay. From a fabulous view, to customer service from Kimberly, to cold beer and the ability to stay and eat. We Enjoyed Kimberlys sweet customer service and hanging out with others who stopped in to grab a bite. Cold Coronas are a must, Best koozies on the Island, and then great snack foods. We had the Loaded fries that were alright, as well as burgers, blt, mashed potatoes, potato salad. The food is nothing more than bar food, and no one could handle the Potato Salad. But the fact that the location and customer service was so great, we probably would come back to at least enjoy some ice cold beers.

Ocean view on the patio.

I thought the food was great. Perfect view right on the beach. It is a very small place, so be patient.

Great view, great service and the boiled shrimp, fried shrimp and salad hit the spot. This restaurant is underrated!

I get island time. Even when they aren't busy, good luck getting service. They ignore you. Shame, good location & potential.

Ask the Community - Port A Beachlodge

Can anyone tell me what the rooms are like? I don't need super fancy but I want a clean place free of roaches.

The rooms were clean but nothing fancy. Our refrigerator had rust all over the front of it. I noticed that the side of the mattress was pretty dirty. Didn't see any bugs.…

Yes, the food may be greasy, the beer may be cheap, but that's kind of the charm of the Beach Lodge and Port A.

Great service! Being on island time has kind of thrown off our internal clocks, we lost track of…read moretime, and when 7pm rolled around we realized we were hungry lol We knew what we wanted MacDaddy's BBQ, during our 7 hour drive to get here we pulled up Yelp to search for some new restaurant options, and after seeing the photos and positive reviews we knew this spot was on our list! What we didn't think about was it being a weekday and closing times, we just goofed! So anyway once we realized the restaurant closed at 8:00pm according to Google we got a little worried, being that I work in a restaurant I know how overwhelming it can be to see customers coming in less than an hour until close, fortunately my hubs double checked here on Yelp and then their website and found the closing time was 8:30pm, so we hopped in the car and got there as soon as we could, and we were relieved to see a few people still eating, and another arriving just after we pulled in. There was a little curfuffle once we were sat, the hostess initially offered us a table with bench seating, but one of us isn't able to sit on a bench due to disability, she kindly offered us a table with chairs, in what appeared to be a different servers section, we were close to the TV on the same wall as the front counter, anyway, after sitting a few minutes Johnathan greeted us and took our drink orders to get us started. The ambiance is so relaxed, there was trivia on a couple of the TV's good music, and lots of cool merch to buy, some of the shirts really made me laugh. We quickly made our selections, hubs got the one meat and two sides and opted for the pork ribs, they were cooked to perfection, and he was delighted considering that we were there the last hour of the day, he really enjoyed his meal, I too opted for the one meat and two sides, selecting the regular sausage, and it was delicious. The highlight was Johnathan, he was friendly, made recommendations, and offered dessert, which we couldn't resist, deciding on the German Chocolate cake, with a side of ice cream. We had to take that to go, we couldn't eat another bite. They have two choices for BBQ sauce, hubs got spicy, and I got regular, and I am glad cuz I'm a yellow bellied tender foot, I tasted the spicy and it IS spicy so for all of you that enjoy the heat, I think you will like their, tomato forward sauce. I usually like to dip each bite of my sausage in BBQ sauce, this particular flavor was just different, I think I will have to try it again, it wasn't typical Texas-esque smoky BBQ sauce, more like ketchup as the base and then flavors and spices added to make it their own, we did find it slightly odd that BBQ sauce doesn't automatically come with the meals, we had to ask for it, but one of the things I REALLY like about MacDaddy's layout is it's a TRUE sit down restaurant with servers vs going thru a cafeteria style line to get our food, ironically as we drove down and talked about wanting to find a BBQ spot, and in that conversation I mentioned that I'd love to find one that's not self serve, being that one of us is disabled it can add a lot of extra work for the other, we come down twice a year if possible and have been doing so for at least 10 years, and had never found a dedicated BBQ place, we have now, the food was good, the service was friendly and the vibe was casual and relaxing, we will definitely be back!

Food was so good!! Would definitely go back. Service was great as well. Atmosphere was lively and…read morefun.

It included a large fish fillet, oysters, large shrimp, coleslaw, French fries. We were not impressed. The oysters were very small and strong. My husband's fillet was not cooked all the way, it was thick. The coleslaw was ok, tartar sauce is made in house. The large shrimp were delicious:) The gentleman that is the head cook was very cordial. Ship the oysters but the rest was very good.

If you go too early, they won't even have any seafood out for presentation, and if you come too late, they will likely have sold out or have already taken the bounty away for the day. We came in one morning after buying shrimp from another place in town and mainly just wanted blue crab and fish. They didn't have blue crab, so we settled on snow crab. We also liked the red snapper here, so we got 2. I was also looking at cajun seasoning and their selection is very, very limited. I only saw one little baggie of seasoning. Would have been nice if they had more for those people that cook from home. I didn't end up purchasing the seasoning. The total came out to around $125 which I thought was a little high for what we got, but there aren't many other options in town. Service was ok, but not the friendliest.
