I have to say, I have not had one bad meal at Boardwalk Café. I've tried a variety of meals on their menu and each one comes out hot, fresh and tasty. Today I tried their "Angry Bird" sandwich. It's a blackened chicken breast filet on their signature jalapeno sourdough bun with pepper jack cheese, bacon and a kicked-up cayenne mayonnaise. It comes with the standard variants of sides and toppings but, if you REALLY want to spice it up some more (if you dare!), get the FRIED JALAPENOS on it! Oh my goodness! These are spicy, delicious little nuggets of GOTCHA that makes ANY burger or sandwich elevated to another level. It all makes for a fantastic combination of flavors that you'll want to come back for again and again. As always, the service is uber-friendly and fast. Prices are excellent. I had a squirrely experience here last Thursday. I was staying on N. Padre and researched someplace nice for lunch. Went out of my way to get here. Just as I got out of my car and stepped onto the porch a woman came out the door and said "Sorry, we just closed." I thought it must be later than I thought it was. Checked the time when I got back in my car and it was 1:18. They're not supposed to close until 2 so I was WELL ahead of that. As I got in my car I watched 2 men get out of their truck and go into the restaurant. They didn't come back out so apparently they were more welcome than I was. Extremely disappointing. read more

It reminded me of my childhood growing up in small town Nebraska. You will like this place if you like friendly service with a touch of charm. Photos showed paper plates, but we had real plates. Our food did not seem cajun/creole as Yelp indicates. If you love rock-n-roll posters of the 60's/70's, you will enjoy this place. The walls are covered! You must visit! Locals, you should patronize this place. The food is really deserving of your business. Maybe we just hit a slow night. If you are vacationing in town, as we were, this is not the spot you want to take your wife to for dinner, unless you are on a food exploration trek or you are tired of the fancy spots. This place was awesome, even though it looks a little sketchy from the outside. It's very mom and pop, can't get any better than this. The walls are covered in posters. Lots of Elvis and other rock artist. Super rad. Glad we made the drive to check this place out. Service was ok- the waitress was wonderful. She was slammed tonight and we had to wait a little bit. We came for lunch yesterday to this small cafe and were not disappointed! This was a great spot for a light lunch and top-shelf service. We were seated immediately and had our drink order taken. This is soft drinks/water/tea only; no bar. All appropriate social distancing guidelines are in place without seeming to take away from the coziness of the place. The menu is unassuming and has options for everyone. I had the catfish plate with coleslaw. The catfish is some of the best I've had, and I live on the Gulf Coast where fresh catfish is a daily option. The coleslaw was very fresh tasting with crisp veggies, and the dressing was not heavy or overpowering at all. My husband ordered the grilled shrimp with a side of grilled veggies. They were gone before I was able to have a sample, and he described them as flavorful with just enough spice. The grilled veggies were not overdone, and according to my husband, tasted great. My older son had the fried shrimp with fries and I also was not offered a taste of these because, as he put it, he was "not sharing these." My youngest son had the Cheeseburger and fries, and it was gone quickly. I would like to chalk the fast eating up to strictly the hunger of growing young men, but I would be lying. I ordered the gulf oysters, fried with a light coating of seasoned flour, hushpuppies, green beans, and salad with house made Ranch. The oysters were small and a bit chewy, perhaps from being in the fyer too long. Didn't prevent me from eating all 12 dipped in the house made tartar sauce. Would not order again. There are many other fish offerings which I'll try on the next visit. What a fantastic find! This little hole in the wall is a great mom and pop restaurant that serves great food and hospitality! They were super friendly and accommodating. They even brought out fries for my fussy kids and let them pick out a movie to watch while eating. The food was fantastic and at a great price.
