Wanted something for brunch. We were going to walk the Semiahoo spit. We thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did. It's a cute, unassuming little place. Maybe 15 tables plus a bar. It's a country club so it's right on the golf course. We entered the restaurant and they said to seat ourselves. Grabbed a table and Jen was our server. She was quick to offer drinks and helpful with the menu because MIL couldn't make a decision. But all decided, ordered the mimosa flight, which was fun and tasty. Husband had a Hefeweizen. They have an excellent selection of beers, wine, ciders, and cocktails. Ordered brunch which was delicious! MIL and I had the Hash and hubs had chicken fried steak. Food was delicious... did I mention that? Food was seasoned perfectly and the perfect portion size. So good!!! I'm so happy we tried this place because it was exactly what I was hoping for! Came by for a quick brunch on a Sunday morning, and it was pretty quiet and peaceful. You seat yourself and service from there is quick and nice. I ordered a mimosa and the ricotta lemon pancakes. Mimosa was v yummy, always a fun way to start your day LOL. Pancakes come with eggs and sausage and the pancakes themselves are hefty, so this was an extremely hefty meal haha. Pancakes were light and fluffy and lemony. I'm a waffle fan, but I would eat these again. Overall, a really good option for food. The restaurant is by the 18th hole of the golf course, a great location. We had the option to pick from a indoor and outdoor table, we chose to sit outside on a great day. They have umbrellas that make it comfortable to sit out in the setting sun. We got the soup of the day, Wild Halibut and Saffron Risotto, and Bucatini & Clams. We liked the soup, both the Wild Halibut and Saffron Risotto and Bucatini & Clams were both great. We loved them both. I also enjoyed a Raspberry Whiff. We finished with Chai Creme Brulee. We came here twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch. It IS one of the only 2 restaurants near the resort where we were staying. This was located in a golf course clubhouse. I was really disappointed that they only did brunch 1 day a week, but we did come back for it. Service every time was wonderful. The appetizer was bruschetta which is a go-to for me. It was delicious, however the balsamic was really thick and there probably shouldn't have been so much. I did happily eat it all. For the dinner we had scallop with red pepper risotto and mushroom pierogis. The scallops were big and perfectly cooked. The red pepper risotto however was a little overwhelming in the red pepper flavor. My husband thought it was delicious and ate it. The pierogis seemed really underwhelming and store bought. It was cheese pierogis with mushroom and arugula on the outside. I feel like if they were made in-house, the mushroom would be on the inside. They were still really good and I ate them all as well. The brunch is the thing I waited for. The lemon ricotta pancakes were to die for! They were so perfectly soft and cakey. I sadly couldn't eat them all because they were so large so I recommend sharing. Those were definitely the star of the show. I don't plan to come back to this area but if I do I would 100% come here again for the brunch. The dinner menu does change by season so I recommend looking at the menu online. read more

While the menu stats boldly that they will accommodate vegetarians and vegans, the reality is not so bright. After a back and forth with the server and kitchen, they came up with a house salad as some tofu. When I asked for a side of bread to go with it, the confusion and delay resulted in no bread for me. It was a small salad, although we asked for the large, and overall on par with a house salad one would get at a Denny's. Server was friendly. The non vegan said their meals were good. read more

And that's where it ends. The prime rib hash was terrible, drowning in oil and was sent back. The potato's in the basic breakfast were probably the worst I've ever had. Overcooked, cooked again, deep fried then microwaved, IDK. Bad! I wanted to throw them into the bushes. Food: fresh and really flavorful. My hubby n I decided to split 2 dishes. Prime rib hash: was very rich and a mild kick w the spicy peppers in the hash. Potatoes were done well and not mushy. Fl oboe profiles were full and really elevated for a hash. French toast: thick toast, not "eggy" in flavor. Subtle vanilla and cinnamon. Topped w strawberries, blueberries and fresh made whipped cream. Ohhhh sooooo good. Service: was good and Consistent. I wouldn't say anything in particular was a standout but we were able to enjoy a nice and relaxing brunch. Ambiance: it's an open floor plan and you can see the bar from the main dining room which has a fireplace and feels like a warm and traditional lodge / cabin feel. Located within the golf course. Nice cozy establishment with a great view. The lemon ricotta pancakes are to die for. We stayed at the Semiahmoo Resort so this was a convenient place for a Sunday brunch. The menu is fairly limited but food was decent. You walk in; the restaurant is to your left and the golf shop to your right. You can shop while waiting for your food. How cool is that? Dad and I really enjoyed our dinner last night! We ordered off the light and appetizer meal because we weren't very hungry and we still ended up bringing a box home! The french fries were amazing because they have the skin on and are salted perfectly. Dad had the wedge salad and it was just the right size and not too overly covered with blue cheese as someplace still. I had the char Sue ribs and asked for a side of vegetables which wasn't on the menu, but I was served a delightful plate of veggies. The char Su ribs were absolutely amazing and a bigger serving than I expected from the appetizer menu. Will continue to keep this as one of our favorite places in the Birch Bay area! As always, the view is wonderful the wait staff is attentive, the bartender is amazing, the manager stops by to say hello and the vibe is casual but nice. read more

My friends, my husband, and I truly enjoy our meals at the Great Blue Heron Grill, and we especially love coming for breakfast Sunday mornings. The lemon ricotta pancakes are superb...they are divine when I order them with blueberries. The pancakes come with 2 eggs cooked to order, and your choice of bacon/ham/sausage. They also come with real maple syrup, but it's not needed because the pancakes are so delicious. Further, the "fresh squeezed orange juice" really IS freshly squeezed...and yes, is absolutely sweet, yet tangily perfect. My husband sometimes orders the meat lover's egg (omelette) scramble, which is also delicious, coming with blossoms of perfectly crisp Yukon gold potatoes. I have promised myself to try the new avocado toast and the croissant breakfast sandwich...but those pancakes... The Grill has a new, talented chef, and she has spiced up all the menus, including the lunch and dinner selections, sourcing locally and with respect to the season. We are excited to try some of the new appetizers, entrees and salads, while enjoying the enduringly peaceful golf course views and courteous service for which the Grill has always been known. read more

Yikes.....I don't recommend..we came in because most dining spots were closed down or full on 4 of July weekend and COVID...and they were open and taking customers, so one star for that! The other star for their tater tots/onion rings...but the rest..no thanks. Scallops, ick...salmon I don't recommend...never had this bad of salmon ever! Not only was it dry but also fishy, tasted frozen. Prices were extremely high for such low quality of food. The servers were nice, but disappointed that it took so long...longer than acceptable to get food.. even during COVID...also our food was served in paper/cardboard container:( read more

3 stars as the service needs improvement. I ordered fish chowder. It was fine. My husband ordered a small Cobb salad. It was average. The dressing tasted like vinegar even though it was buttermilk ranch. The interior of the golf club house is nice, sit at a chair facing the windows. The retail shop has very nice clothes. read more

First time at this restaurant and first time in the area. What a gorgeous area and resort! I got the salmon burger and my husband got the French dip. My husband did not prefer the potato chips he got as a side. But liked the sandwich! The food was descent/good. Some good aspects: yummy aioli, I loved how the red onions on my burger were sliced, I loved the burger bun and the quality of the salmon. I would say the French dip sandwich and the clam chowder were pretty average. Again good quality but we live in Seattle so are use to a different vibe (ie speciality features in food like special aioli, sauces, etc) We enjoyed the iced tea and the servers were very helpful and attentive. When we are back in the area we would return! read more

For those of you staying at Semiahmoo resort, take note that the Great Blue Heron Grill is in the clubhouse of the golf course nearby, not in or adjacent to the hotel. This wasn't a problem for us, just something that I feel everyone needs to be aware of when they are making their plans in advance of their trip because the hotel website makes it seem like it's RIGHT THERE. It's not. That being said, the only place closer to the hotel is Packers. Our reservations were pretty early, and when we arrived, the place was dead except for a few of the club members, and there was no sign indicating that we were actually at the Great Blue Heron Grill, which was a little awkward. I was afraid we were encroaching on a "members-only" area. But a lady in the office in the front noticed our confusion and rushed out to usher us into the restaurant and made us feel very welcome. The service was great. The atmosphere was very cozy with beautiful views of the course and a fireplace near our table. I took off a star for the food, however. It was just ok. Not as good as we were expecting for the prices they charged. read more

It's not cheap, but the food is worth it. The servers don't pressure you, but are attentive; it's a golf club, so come with the idea of being at ease. It's absolutely beautiful to look out the window. In the winter, I like to sit near the fireplace...but you won't be alone in that desire. This place was recommended by a few locals in the area, so my husband and I decided to check it out. We arrived five minutes before happy hour ended, and our server let us take advantage. We each ordered a drink - a Moscow mule for me and a draft beer for my husband. We also ordered the salmon sliders as an appetizer. The draft beer was nothing to write home about. However, my Moscow mule was not a Moscow mule. There was no ginger in it at all. It was a little minty, almost like a mojito, but it didn't taste as sweet as that either. A part of me wonders if they couldn't remember which one was which and just mixed up the two drinks. The salmon sliders were good. I enjoyed the sourness of the pickle combined with the savory cheese. For dinner, my husband ordered the Flat Iron Steak, and I ordered the Local Wild Salmon. My husband enjoyed the Flat Iron Steak, even though he asked for it to be cooked medium but it was well-done. I didn't like it. The grill prides itself on locally sourcing its ingredients, but in this case, I think they need to find another supplier. The meat tasted vaguely of the way manure smells to me. I took one bite and none after that. My husband didn't think it tasted bad, just that it was like chewing leather because the steak was cooked so much. The potatoes and carrots were cooked and well-seasoned though. The carrots still had some firmness and were cooked to perfection. My salmon was quite good, despite also being over cooked (supposedly medium again became well done). Unlike the steak, however, the fish flavors were light. Again, the sides were the best part of the dish. The squash risotto was not over cooked, well seasoned, and not too cheesy. The asparagus were blanched perfectly. We stuck it out for dessert, but couldn't decide between the brown butter carrot cake and the special -- a raspberry peach crisp. The brown butter carrot cake was huge! We were expecting a small piece, but this piece could easily have been shared with four to six people; we didn't finish it. Unfortunately the cake itself was dry, but the cream cheese frosting was the perfect balance between sour and sweet. On the other hand, the crisp was delicious. We both enjoyed its warm, fruity flavors, sweet and crunchy crumble, topped with vanilla ice cream. In the end, I would not make a return trip to this restaurant, but if I had to, I would stick to something simple such as a sandwich or burger. This restaurant is nicely tucked away on a golf course, and provides a super peaceful location/nice view for enjoying a nice summer day. They have a great selection of happy hour drinks and a couple food options. Their menu isn't super extensive but I'm never disappointed by the food. The staff here is friendly and attentive. I really enjoyed their Arnold Palmer burger. Ingredients were incredibly fresh and I loved the black garlic aioli they put on the burger. Their soups and sandwiches are good as well. If you order the clubhouse, be ready for a large helping of sliced meats! read more

I was so disappointed. We went here for my and my stepfather's birthday (50 and 80!). First, I tried to call every day for 5 days in advance for reservations and never received a call back (they don't answer the phone and didn't return my call and it was a VERY busy weekend in Birch Bay for the annual sand sculpture event so wanted reservations even for an early dinner). We just showed up at 4:30 hoping we could get a table. We got one but we're only given a limited lunch menu. I asked for the normal dinner menu. Apparently, you only get a dinner menu if 'you made reservations'. What?? I said I tried for 5 days to make a reservation but No. One. Called. Me. Back. So, for our party of five, they gave a 'concession' and gave us one dinner menu to look at. That being said, 2 of our party of five could not order off the menu. Apparently, at 4:30 pm, they were already out of steamer clams and could not provide them (one of the main reasons we went there), nor were other menu items available. But you could order clam linguine with whole clams in shell?? So, no clams? Or yes clams? Anyway, we were very disappointed and for the supposed quality of the place, and the prices, we would not recommend. Note that this is the 3rd time we've been there over the years and each time was disappointing for how the advertise and the expectations for a higher quality resort /restaurant. I rarely post low ratings, as I prefer to leave positive ratings for places... I would've given this place a 1 star rating but the food was at least decent. The service, however, was horrible. I used to be a waiter and bartender, and I was appalled at how bad it was for my fiancé and I. After being seated it took the waitress 25 minutes to finally come around and take our order. Keep in mind it wasn't even that busy. When we finally got our food we had been sitting there hungry for 50 minutes, almost an hour... I had ordered a burger and they even charged me (without warning) for subbing out the fries for a salad, one that consisted simply of lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots... We had to go as soon as possible due to an appointment so right when we got our food we requested the check. So then to top it all, the waitress still took forever to grab our check for us.
