The Kingsley - Contemporary residences that mix traditional style with a vintage aesthetic

I have to say, before renting here, it had been nearly 30 years since I last rented an apartment. I recall that it was considered sport to commiserate with other residents and lampoon ridiculous management policies and procedures. Not here. Everyone you'll encounter are total pros, and everyone works to make your experience at the Kingsley awesome. Communications from the Management office were, clear, lucid, and succinct. For large-scale work events in the building, like garage floor maintenance, communication was handled with deft and aplomb and informed residents of exactly what was going on when and what to expect. Charges against our security deposit on move-out were fair and reasonable. The good: The building itself is modern, beautiful, and meticulously maintained. The maintenance staff sees to it. The building is mostly occupied by professionals and never had an issue with late-night frat parties and carrying on. Everyone is generally respectful of living in a building with shared walls and ceilings/floors. But it is an apartment building with lots of other people, and you will hear some noises on occasion. The location is great too. There's a lot of new construction in North Old Town and I feel confident it will the place to be in Old Town over the next couple of years. The staff arrange lots of social events to meet your neighbors, and it was cool to meet and mingle. I met some very interesting folks there. It's Old Town, so in absolute numbers the rent seems high, but to be honest, I thought it represented good value for what you get in return. Your mileage may vary, depending on your perspective. Opportunities for improvement: One area to be aware of if you're a full-time bicycle commuter. Bicycle parking is tight, and losing a parking spot is common. This wouldn't be an issue with ample parking for bicycles. One bike cage is located right next to a parking spot, and if that spot is occupied, it can be difficult or impossible to get your bike in or out. That made that bike cage next to useless, in my opinion. I reached out to the Management office on more than one occasion to raise this issue, but never heard anything in return. This is a first-world problem, I suppose, but a more robust bike parking infrastructure would have helped quite a bit -- especially as this part of Alexandria is located near so much bicycling infrastructure and is a great place to be a full-time bike commuter. I give the Kingsley four stars, though, and can highly recommend it to anyone considering living here.

We have loved living here since moving in until recently. Our vehicle was broken into last weekend…read more Window busted out, dash board ripped out, stereo stolen. We heard another vehicle was broken into as well. We pay to park in a "secure" and monitored garage. We reported the break in to the police. Since this has happened management has done nothing to inform the other residents and they have yet to call the police themselves to review video footage. Yet when someone's tires were stolen an email was sent. Their lack of concern and their oh well attitude does not sit right with me. They only reached out to us because my husband sent them an email. Luckily it wasn't a person that was hurt, but it still takes away your sense of feeling safe. All we want is for them to inform the residents who live here. Why is that so hard? Management wanted to meet with us but we were unavailable the day they wanted to meet. My husband offered two other days that would work that have since passed. They never reached out. We have heard nothing else from them. Now at this point I want to speak to there manager not to the management staff that offers no help. 3 weeks tomorrow and still nothing.

I haven't had too much interaction with anyone else, but I can say people are very nice in the apartment building. Moving into my apartment was a smooth transition and I didn't have any issues at all. The amenities are fantastic and I have a tendency to forget that I can call this place my home because it feels like I'm on vacation. I don't have any issues at all. Prior to moving in, I was concerned about noise from the fire department being within close proximity and I have to say it's not an issue. My apartment is very quiet and it's great. One thing I would like to note is if you have any issues with dogs, this apartment building may not be for you. I know some people don't like dogs or have allergy issues, so please keep that in mind. The only issue I have with dogs in the apartment building is preventing myself from petting them all.

It had the reach of a larger organization but a lot of personal attention you'd expect from a smaller company. I worked with Eric, JJ, and Wendy the most and would recommend these guys over anyone. From furniture and wifi to packages and billing, it was, as the name clearly implies, all very turnkey. Outstanding all around, great outfit.

Turnkey Housing provided a "Cadillac Experience" but on a budget you could afford on your own, as a small company or an independent consultant. When I moved in, everything was all setup: furniture, cooking equipment, linens, and even cable TV and a high speed modem. Moving from your own house to a temp apartment can be hard: it brings back all the issues of coordinating repairs with building management, getting addition help items "like a step ladder", and everything else. Eric and JJ took all of this for me. Since they do this full-time, they were able to take care of issues more efficiently than I would if I was renting out an apartment in my own name. I strongly recommend them for any temp living arrangements in the Alexandria/Arlington area both if you are moving yourself or are a small business relocating new employees to the area.

I have perfectly installed porcelain tile and hardwood floors, repaired walls, and a new cabinet. Amazingly, they were able to match my existing hardwood with the new hardwood, and there's absolutely no difference - it's as if all of the hardwood was originally installed at the same time rather than being installed years apart from each other! The new kitchen cabinet was also selected and installed, and matches with the cabinets that were already in place. I was also impressed that they do not take any shortcuts, and quality seems to be a top priority for them. Even though my project was small compared to many large renovation or repair projects, I never once felt that I was any less important as a customer. I also appreciated that they were upfront and transparent about any issues that arose during the repairs, and they made sure to stay in contact with me and offered helpful suggestions for overcoming any repair barriers. The Zelaya team remained professional, courteous, and transparent, and completed the repairs on time and on budget. They truly are a company that is committed to customer service and ensuring that everyone is happy with the end result. I would not hesitate to hire them again the next time I am in need of repairs or renovations.
