Fresh from the hospital for dinner with my sweetheart. Bon Appetit :-)

Just had a very nice experience at this place and giving them a solid 5 star!! Established in 2019, Portabella's in Foley, AL, quickly gained a buzz for their authentic Italian cuisine and inviting atmosphere. The original owners worked hard to create a dining experience that celebrated the flavors and traditions of Italy, that resonated with locals and visitors alike. There was a lot of folks lamenting when they suddenly closed it doors with an uncertain future. But after a few successful years, the original owners decided to pursue new endeavors, and in June 2023, Portabella's was sold to its current owners, Rich and Pam Lee. With decades of experience in the culinary world, including Rich's role as an executive chef for renowned restaurants, such as the acclaimed Antoine's in New Orleans, the Lees were well-equipped to take the reins and continue its legacy of exceptional Italian cuisine. Located in the heart of Foley Portabella's has a warm and welcoming environment that reflects the passion and expertise of its owners. The menu features a diverse range of homemade dishes, including Italian sandwiches and even a Mufaletta , classic pasta dishes, and a special Greek pasta with kalamata olives, tomato, feta, olive oil, with chicken or shrimp, lobster and ricotta ravioli, wood-fired pizzas, fresh salads, and great seafood options. Standout items include the Gulf pizza, with fresh spinach, shrimp, artichoke hearts, feta, and sun-dried tomato pesto, and the Five Cheese pizza, a nice combination of mozzarella, feta, Swiss, provolone, and parmesan. You can not only create your own pizza but you can also build you own pasta, very nice! We started with an outstanding Stuffed Portable that's spinach, artichoke, mozzarella, pita points with an ooey gooey deliciousness. My honey had the special that day of Clams Linguine that she totally enjoyed and I had one of my favorite dishes Veal Marsala, that was outstanding and a huge portion that I could barely finish. They also has a full-service bar with a fine selection of wines and craft beers, as well as decadent desserts like their famous Nutella cheesecake and homemade tiramisu. The restaurant also has live music events on select nights, further enhancing its inviting ambiance. Bottom line: Under the dedicated stewardship of Rich and Pam Lee, Portabella's continues to thrive as a beloved destination for Italian cuisine enthusiasts in Foley and the Gulf Coast. Highly recommended!!! Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and extending its hours to 9:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, it's a great setting for a memorable dining experience. They're closed on Sundays and Mondays. Spinach, salad is amazing Garlic knots need help!... How about putting some fresh garlic/butter on them..... Step them up some they seem very basic/bland. A distraction from the other quality food at this restaurant. La pasta is amazing; highly recommend. Value of food is amazing. Wine is overpriced for this type of restaurant. One negative star for Garlic Knots and over priced wine

The staff and crew are simply amazing ensuring your stay with them during meals make you feel like you're at your Italian families home for the Sunday big meal.

    5 cheese pizza

My husband and I made our way to Portabellas this past Friday while we were in town. We arrived close to 4pm and were immediately greeted and seated by the lovely hostess. The place was very quaint and offered an intimate environment. My husband opted for the lasagna and Caesar salad. He wasn't crazy about the salad dressing but he ate every last bite of his lasagna! I had the 5 cheese pizza and it was absolutely delicious. My husband sampled my pizza and wants to order pizza the next time we are in town because he also thought it was fantastic! We both had a garlic knot with our meals and those were delicious as well. I ordered a side of Alfredo sauce to dip my garlic knot in and I thought it was pretty flavorful. It had a gravy like consistency. Between our meal and sharing a bottle of wine, there was no room for dessert but we hope to make room for that next time! We will definitely put this restaurant in our regular rotation.

    Ask the Community - Portabellas

    Is there a happy hour?

Not that I know of. We're only there in the winter and they open at 3:00. They are opening a second location at the zoo and it may have a happy hour

How much of a wait is there for 2?

On a Friday night between hours 5pm and 6pm usually 10- 20 minutes

Do you take reservations? What's the best time for less wait on a Friday for dinner?

No, we don’t. We are a 12 table establishment and we are first come first served basis.

When we go to the beach, we typically frequent seafood restaurants. Over the 4th of July weekend…read morerestaurants are so busy that we decided to diverge from the norm and try something different. We are so glad we did. So much so that we returned again before the end of our trip. The restaurant was quaint and service was very good, especially our first visit. Our top recommendation would be the lasagna which was the best I've ever had and so large that it easily feeds 2 people! The mushroom brochette and veal piccata were also delicious. Wine was excellent and so was the bread. We will be back.

Bread Service - The bread was hot and served alongside olive oil with herbs. The olive oil mixed…read morewith the herbs was infused with rosemary. The bread was very good and is probably top 5 as far as restaurants I have visited that offer complimentary bread. Insalata Mista - Good, nothing special or that sets it apart from other salad. The house dressing was good, leans more on the sweet side. Lasagna - The biggest portion of lasagna I have ever seen and ever received at a restaurant. The waitress said they call it the "Birthday Cake." Once it arrived at the table we understood why, it was almost the side of a birthday cake. The flavor was really good as well. It had a good amount of meat and cheese. It was not a lasagna that was made up of just noodle. Definitely worth ordering. If you're on a date or out with a friend, you could probably split the lasagna. Especially, if you order a salad , soup or appetizer. Spaghetti - It was good, nothing great but not bad either. If you like spaghetti & meatballs this will do the trick however, it won't blow your skirt up but you won't be upset either. Veal Piccata - Very good, I would order this if I went back. The veal cutlet was tender and contained crispy edges. The sauce was very good as well. The capers, lemon and wine were very well proportioned. Grilled Salmon - My Mother-in- Law ordered this and shared the following thoughts. Salmon was good however, the white bean salad that accompanied it was better. 7.5-8 out of 10 as far as the whole dish goes. Torta Savoia - Probably the worst thing we ordered. We all wanted chocolate, specifically chocolate cake. This really underwhelmed and did not satisfy the craving. The mood was a little gummy and didn't have that great of a mouth fill. Sometimes when mousse isn't made completely the correct way, gelatin will be used and occasionally overused. The cake itself wasn't that moist and the taste of chocolate really didn't hit you like it should have. Service - Our waitress was named Corrina. She was really sweet and very informative. Corrina was honest about the menu and suggestions. She was also very observant.
