I have been here 3-4 times before but last evening was a disappointment. It started when I lifted my rolled up napkin. It felt like air. The napkin was paper, yes paper. Searching for an Italian place to eat, we came up to this small cute corner of Portobello's Italian Bistro. Lizette (sorry if I misspelled it) she was from South Africa was our server, the food was excellent, everything tasted wonderful, my pizza omg one of the best, everyone ate their meals no leftovers, but the highlight to our night was the service. Lizette was not only attentive but she was such a wonderful person. I work in the industry and I love when we can provide wonderful service (especially for a party of 9) without any issues. We drove by many times wondering what the restaurant was like snd finally decided to visit. What a lovely place. The restaurant was packed with people but we did not have to wait. We were seated and placed our order within 10-15 minutes. The menu is not huge, but offers enough variety for everyone to find something they would enjoy. We ordered two appetizers, the cesare salad and the bruschetta. Both were lovely and big enough to share, two pasta dishes, one lasagna and one veal piccata. Every meal came warm and simply plated. No one was disappointed. My veal dish came with beautifully cooked carrots, green beans and broccoli. I was tempted to ask for more broccoli it was so perfectly made and with a hint of lemon butter. The veal was not as thin as I've had it, but lovely seasoning and topped with sautéed mushrooms. Accompanied also by lovely roasted potatoes. The lasagna was a little disappointing as the sauce was more tomato than meaty but was nonetheless enjoyable. The penne arribiatta had a lovely sausage and light kick. If you enjoy some spice you'll enjoy this dish. And the penne Gorgonzola did not disappoint. We also enjoyed their dessert menu. The apple crumb cheesecake was the perfect size and topped with a yummy caramel sauce. If you like really sweet like I do, you will love it. The crème brûlée had a lovely custard but the brûlée was too thick and did not crack. This should be served cold and although tasty and a perfect size they need to get the brûlée right. The service was fantastic and we two of the four of us had enough to take home for lunch tomorrow. Can't wait to enjoy my leftovers tomorrow for lunch. read more

After spending the day at Kelso Conservation Park, we were ready to eat as much as possible, and this place truly delivered! This place was less than thirty minutes away. The patio was small but very cute, and our server was very nice as well. We started out with meatballs as the appetizers, and it really hit the spot. The sauce was perfect, it was a great way to start. I really recommend trying the stuffed mushroom ravioli, it was super creamy, I was so full but I didn't want to stop eating! We also had the lasagna, which was good but not as good as the ravioli. I would say the only downside to this restaurant is that a lot of the drinks (alcohol) on the menu were unavailable when I went so I had a limited choice. read more

After driving by Portabello's so often I decided to go here for dinner with my boyfriend. We were quickly seated and provided the menus. We opted to share a caesar salad to start. The caesar didn't take too long to come and it was nothing special. It took way too long for our mains to come. It was about an hour into our visit when our chicken parmesan and Alfredo pasta came out. He didn't really find the chicken parmesan great. My Alfredo pasta was very disappointing. It tasted bland and they even forgot to add chicken. After pointing it out they came by with a bowl with some chicken pieces. The chicken had a very strange chemical taste which was not appetizing at all. Honestly the Alfredo at Domino's is way better. We will not be returning after the disappointing long wait and poor food. read more

There were 8 in our party celebrating my birthday. The waitress was attentive and nice. The restaurant is very small. The area closest to the door has bar height tables (about 6) and the back of the Restaurant had regular seating. We got off to a bit of a rough start. A very long wait for food. Id say about 40 mins however once the food arrived my guests raved about how it was worth the wait. Everyone enjoyed their meal and raved about how good it was. Things only got better when we got the bill which was only $200 for all 8 including alcohol. For the quality and size of the portions it was a steal. We have talked of going again. Update- booked a small diner to celebrate my moms retirement. There were 8 of us. First disappointment was the change in menu specifically they removed veal parm. My father was very upset about this and is refusing to go back. Even after the waitress told the manager he wouldn't budge and make it for him. After we ordered we watched the restaurant fill up around us. Those parties were eating and some even done before our food arrived. The kicker was the 20% gratuity that was added to the bill. If you're going to enforce a mandatory gratuity then you better make sure we have good service. Sorry to say we won't be back which is too bad because the food is pretty good. Horrible customer service and deplorable management! We called in the afternoon to make a reservation for 3 experienced restaurant goers, they said they don't take reservations but to call before we come so we did and they said yes we have space. When we got there they said it would be a few minutes. A couple walk in behind us and she tells the female server oops sorry I forgot to text you. The server says we are busy but I will get you in . The server promptly then tells us it will be a 20 minute wait. So we played the game and said ok knowing full well she wanted us to leave so that the couple behind us could get the next table. She was shocked when we said we would wait. Within 2 minutes a table of 4 opened up and the same server said it was reserved. Hmmm you don't take reservations for under 6. Then she had the audacity to escort the other couple to the table of 4! Comes back to us and says to us you have this table right in front of the door (if you could have seen this table you would not have your dog sit there). We let her and a male server (he did attempt to try and keep us there and he was not happy with the elder female server) know that we heard the whole conversation expressed our disgust and left. Went to Symposium Cafe and had the most pleasant experience, service was great, great menu choices and 1/2 price bottles of wine on a Friday! Our night out was saved. I was initially going to give Portabello's two stars - and wrote two separate emails to them stating my concerns. There was no response and therefore, it's now a 1 star rating. We dined at Portabello's on Friday 19th January, 2017. The wait time was 30 minutes, which I anticipated since it was a Friday evening. By the time we got a table, we were famished. After waiting for more than 10 minutes, our server finally showed up to take our order. For my entree, I ordered the Shitake and Portobello Ravioli ($17.95) - This took more than 30 minutes to arrive! I think i was about to pass out by this time. Once the food arrived, the ravioli portion was incredibly tiny, and the meal ended up being inconsistently cooked - some Ravioli pieces were al dente, the rest were hard. To add, there was absolute minimal filling in the pockets, they were dense and I just found the overall meal extremely disappointing. By the end of the meal I was still starving, and angry. The worst part is that our server (Natalie) never showed up during our meal, so I could not send it back to the kitchen or provide any feedback. Then, I randomly saw the chef come out and sit by another table, and offer them free desserts, because they were apparently his "friends" - He bossed a server around to get them whatever they wanted and it was just an awkward situation for the other diners that sat beside them. As I stated earlier, I wanted to understand if this was just was just a one-off situation (I may have just come at a bad time), and wrote them an email stating my concerns and advising them to rectify the matter. The lack of a response to the matter is evident that they do not care about any criticism, they are happy with the old regular crowd, and it is enough to understand that I will never return. read more

Found this place right here on Yelp and decided to give it a try due to the fact that they have mushroom ravioli which has easily become a new obsession of mine this year. It's in a nice quiet neighborhood. The restaurant is a bit small so prepare yourself to wait a bit depending on the time you're going. The interior was nice and cute, perfect for a date night. Service was amazing...all servers were extremely nice we had Tanya, she went above and beyond to make our visit here worthwhile. For meals we ordered the mushroom ravioli which was delicious!!!!!! It's definitely a must have if you come here. We also ordered a meat lovers pizza which was really delicious as well. Portions were nice, had left overs! Shockingly we made space to try dessert, we had a delicious warm cookie topped with vanilla ice cream.. it was nice and soft. A perfect way to end a great dinner. My wife an I entered a very busy restaurant on a Thursday night hoping to sit on the patio. Unfortunately we were told there were no tables available for a while by the hostess and decided to find another patio for drinks and apps. The manager or owner Joe followed us out and said "don't go!" and brought us back in and got us a drink while we waited 10 minutes for a patio table. Very impressed! The service and food were great throughout. We ordered the portobello pizza and the cannelloni, extra spicy. Will definitely return again to try some other pizzas. read more

Pizza is one of my all time favorite foods, so let's just say I take my pizza pretty seriously. Portabellos did not disappoint! I got the 11" Meat lovers and it was delicious. We started off with the bruschetta which was also very tasty. The meal ended in an epic way, with the baked chocolate chip cookie and ice cream for desert - talk about a great Saturday night! I was pleasantly surprised with the amount families dining here; when you first enter it feels like a place for grown ups to wine and dine, but pretty much every table had kids, so my family fit right in. Great spot for a delicious meal at a decent price. I'm absolutely addicted to the lasagna and lasagna is generally not something I would order at a restaurant, but after seeing a friend order it I had to try to for myself. We've been here a few times since living in Milton and the food we just picked up was obviously microwaved and cold fries and I mean COLD this was awful and for $35 for two chicken wraps it's an embarrassing local, neighbourhood restaurant. Caesar salad for me and a caprese salad for my daughter we split an 11" margherita pizza and then a warm ginger cake (almost like sticky toffee but elevated to another level) and molten chocolate cake. We came here for a fathers day meal on 6/15. We had a party of 6 so we made reservations - I dont think we really needed them but it was good to know that we could make them! Service was good - no complaints We started with bruschetta and garlic bread with cheese. My only complaint is that I wish there were more bruschetta!! We ordered a cuple pizzas, I had chicken parm, another person had a gluten free chicken pasta! Everything was delicious and the portions were big. We had a delicious but very rich meal a few weeks ago, I had chicken marsala and in the description it mentions garlic but it was not overwhelming. Today I chose the veal with the lemon sauce that doesn't mention anything about garlic but that is all you taste - no lemon flavor at all. I was very disappointed. My husband had the lobster and crab fettucine and it had too much garlic too. If I order take out again I would make sure I specified that I don't want garlic to be the main flavor of the dish. I wish I had ordered the chicken marsala but perhaps that would have more garlic this time too! read more

I have no complaints regarding the food, as it was warm and flavourful - definitely hit the spot. Just wanted to share an experience we had while out to dinner last night at Portobello's. My family and two others took the kids and went for dinner there as we have been doing regularly for the past 7 years or so, pretty much since it opened. The kids were colouring as the adults talked. If you've ever been there you've noticed there is colouring and names, etc. on the brick parts of the wall just like at East side Mario's etc. so my son (who is 6) starting writing his name on the wall. We didn't think anything of it as this is what has been done for the past 7 years. From behind the bar we her the owner start screaming across the restaurant "HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY...STOP COLORING ON MY WALL...YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT, I SPENT ALL DAY SCRUBBING THAT WALL...etc, etc, etc." The whole time she is yelling she is directly yelling at my son and at this point the whole restaurant is listening and watching. My husband says to her calmly "Please don't yell at my son. If you have a problem you speak to one of the adults, you shouldn't be screaming at a kid." While my husband is trying to talk she keeps cutting him off saying "he's not allowed to do that, i cleaned all the walls, etc.etc." again my husband says "I understand that. He didn't know, he won't do it again, we're sorry..if you want me to wash it off, i'll wash it off but please do not yell at my kid". At this point my son is furiously colouring a picture and won't look up from the table because he is mortified and trying not to cry. He is a good kid and honestly didn't know he was doing anything wrong. She leaves and we go on with our meal. Obviously we start discussing among ourselves what just happened because it was so out of line. Out of nowhere she comes charging back to the table yelling again "LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING...FIRST I KNOW YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT ME AND I DON'T LIKE IT AND SECOND THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN IF PEOPLE LIKE YOU WOULD WATCH THEIR KIDS..." at this point things got a little heated. We were there with a 12, year old, a 6 year old, 2 4 years olds, a 2 year old and a baby. They did not leave the table once, they didn't make a mess, were quiet, definitely didn't disturb anybody around them so obviously we all got very defensive because as far as kids go in restaurants they were behaving amazingly. Anyways we were trying to explain to her how unprofessional her behavior was, she wanted no part of it, she kept yelling, voices got raised, ended up being drama. A man from another table leaned over when she left and said "Don't bother with her, ask to speak to the owner" and was shocked when he told him that she was in fact the owner. Unprofessional is an understatement...Anyways, we ended up paying the bill and leaving but they definitely just lost 11 customers last night and likely more. That is one "family" restaurant we will never be stepping foot in again. read more

We were going to this place on a fairly regular basis until today when the service we received was appallingly bad. They open their doors for business at 1130am and we arrived at noon. There was no waitress/hostess in sight but a cook was working in the kitchen. We stood for about two minutes before the manager came out from the back and told us to sit anywhere. We did and after about ten minutes no one had come to take our drink orders. We got up to leave, and saw the sole waitress out on the patio cleaning up garbage and smoking. The manager was on the phone (no doubt a personal call) and then tried to get us to stay. Too little far too late. He knew we were there and he knew the waitress was still outside. Instead of either calling her to come serve us, or at least getting our drink order started himself, he made a phone call and expected us to just sit and march to their tune. Bad form Portobello's. You know we WERE regulars and we are done. And we ALL know you are never busy or full, so good luck in the future if this is how you treat your customers. P.S. I guess we will never know if the waitress would have gone to wash her hands after cleaning garbage/smoking a cigarette, before starting to serve food. read more
