Bye-bye, pizza... hello, pinsa! With scissors! We tried this place on a whim, having seen their sign advertising "PINSA" and thinking "What's that?" We looked it up online and learned it was a unique flatbread-type thing from Rome - a bit like a pizza, but not pizza - pinsa! Friends had planned to go to Rome, but the pandemic forced them to cancel, so we suggested we eat like they do in Rome instead - and headed to Venga Cucina. Big menu: there's a huge assortment of pinsas to choose from - both meat and vegetarian offerings (in the 15 to 22 dollar range). There are weekly specials, too, which all sounded tempting when described. But we were here to sample the pinsa. Each of our foursome chose a different type. Pinsas are more oval-rectangular shaped, made from a special mix of flours, and prepared by a special technique. When they arrived, we were especially charmed to see that they were served with SCISSORS! No struggling to try to slice through that crispy-chewey deliciousness with knives and forks here. You just snip, snip, snip! That first bite: WOW! Thin and crispy and chewy and oh-so LIGHT! This dough was truly something different. So airy and bubbly. And hot out of the oven! We tucked into our pinsas so fast and furious it wasn't until they were almost gone that we remembered we should exchange with each other. I chose the margherita, with fior di latte. The fresh tomato sauce was so fresh and light and lovely. The other pinsas were delicious, too. All of the topping combinations were unique and had so much flavor. Pro tip: check the pinsa menu online first so you don't spend way too long deciding what to order, like me. We paired with a bottle of waiter-recommended house Chianti - which was great ($50). The dining room along Dundas in The Junction strip is lovely - spacious, elegant, comfortable. This would be a great place for an event or party. (And there's a side outdoor patio.) Our server was super friendly - efficient, informative and relaxed. He set the perfect tone for this place which is confident about their offerings, helpful in all the right ways, but not overly swooning over you as a customer. After we were done, the pinsa master came to our table to tell us all about his craft, show us the special flour mix he uses, and describe what goes into making the pinsa dough - which needs to sit for 3 days! Because of that, their planning has to be spot-on... or they might run out of pinsa dough! Venga Cucina takes an enormous amount of pride in their food and their craft - and it shows :) I'm glad I discovered the pinsa - we'll definitely be back to try more.

The same owners as Junction Local has reinvented the menu to offer amazing Pinsa (pizza)!!! We ordered a veggie pinsa for take out - Gardieniera, and it was loaded with really tasty well prepared vegetables and herbs.Every bite was a unique taste! Started with mushroom, then eggplant, red pepper, sweet onions, and zuchinni Can't wait to try everything else on their menu!

Out group tried the Biscuits and gravy, shrimp Benny and brisket Benny as well as fried green tomato, kids apple johnny cakes and grilled cheese. The portions are generous. The chicken with the biscuits and gravy were 2 pieces of brined dark meat chicken served on a biscuit and collards smothered in pork gravy. Chicken was very juicy and super crunchy, collard needed some acidity, biscuit was light but a little overdone and gravy was not as fat a decadent than in the south, lighter but still tasty, wish they poured it a little more generously. The fried green tomato was outstanding as the accompany silly aioli situation was great. Kids apple jonnycakes were a hit and loved the hot chocolate with mini marshmallows for the kiddos. Gtilled cheese was a hit - got the pull and the bread was well toasted. The home fries were a bit of a let down. Although very cool and layered, they seemed very greasy, maybe oil or flattop wasn't hot enough? Benny's were both good, shrimp cake was well cooked and crisp and brisket was flavourful and moist. Hey have no waiting area and take no reservations. Use their call ahead service and enjoy

Myself, family members .i.e. grandma and restaurant's in the south pride themselves on good fried chicken and mac n cheese. Let's be clear, I am not advocating to eat comfort everyday...... The southern hospitality that I was greeted with at the register was great! I do feel comfortable in rating fried chicken and I thought it was OK. The chicken was not dry .i.e. breast. I normally do not eat the breast of chicken because it is dicey but that was the 2 piece meal option at $13.99. The order was one leg regular and one spicy breast, hear is where the problem lies. If you are going to make something spicy don't just shake pepper flakes or hot sauce over the meal and say it's spicy. (I mean, you know what I'm saying) lol. It's hot, but in the south we put our spices in the batter and brined the chicken also in flavors so when you cook the chicken all the flavor, juices are trap in every bit of the chicken. I must say that the batter of the chicken was good and crunchy! My 2 cents....Please continue to support this fast food restaurant, the food is good. Remember comfort food is not fast food and theirs few and far in between! Continue success....

I must say, for a fast food restaurant, the food here was quite good. I ordered the Chicken Pop-Ins (popcorn chicken) combo since it was something easy eat. Each combo comes with a Taters, a canned pop (a bonus that it wasn't a fountain drink), and choice of 2 dipping sauces. The chicken was fresh, crispy, and cooked just right. The Taters had a slight crisp to them, and where cut thick, so you get lots of potato with each bite. One thing that stood out to me was that the food here weren't super salty, or overly seasoned, so I was able to taste the food itself. The interior of the Stockyards location was quite clean, and the girl behind the counter was super friendly, well mannered, and polite. This may be one of my top fried chicken fast food chain restaurants.

How disappointing…read more Came here and had high hopes as the menu looked promising. The service at first was great. The servers were friendly and chatty. We came on a Wednesday night around 7:30pm and there were only 4 other tables apart from ours. The restaurant was fairly bright and the tables were nicely spread apart so that there was enough space to move around. There were 3 of us for dinner and so we decided to order 3 different main dishes to share. They were all pretty good size portions. BACALHAU À BRÁS - fairly large size portion and pretty tasty. I've had better elsewhere, but this was still good. CARNE DE PORCO À ALENTEJANA - good flavours; however, the pork was a bit dry, even though it was a bit of a saucy dish. PICANHA GRELHADA - grilled rump steak, served with black beans, French fries, and rice. This dish was terrible and I would NOT recommend! The steak was chewy and tough. When we told the server about this all he said to us was "well, sometimes that happens" and walked away. So, you're basically telling people that sometimes it just happens that you serve terrible food and you still expect people to pay full price for it. Because of this dish alone and the server's response to our feedback about the dish, I will never go back to this place again and I do not recommend this place at all. If I'm going to be paying those prices for food, they better be good. Also, when we made a reservation, we needed to leave credit card details for the booking. There are other places that are far better for Portuguese cuisine.
