I had Leon come out to clean my mattresses (twin and queen) and my sofa. I will be honest and say that they were really, really gross. I mean, really. My sofa was an embarrassment. We communicated for several weeks, via phone and text, and Leon was extremely helpful as he detailed his process. They did an excellent job of cleaning them the first time and when the rugs didn't look as clean as they thought they could, the team came back to improve on the job, at their recommendation not mine. The five-star ratings are true! My mother was coming to town and needed a clean spot to call her own in my studio apartment: my big, comfy scatterback pillow microfiber sofa! I called Leon and explained my situation. With short notice, he stopped by the next day and cleaned my sofa so well, the microfiber looked completely plush and new. He also removed a small stain from my carpet. Leon was completely thorough in describing the environmentally safe process he uses and showed me how much dirt and soiled he removed from the sofa, when he dumped the dirty water down the toilet. I couldn't be happier with the job he performed and would easily recommend him to others. When spring comes, I'm sure I'll go in with another studio apartment dweller to have the carpets cleaned. UPDATE: It is now 2 months later and the smell is finally gone. So, I am updating to say that & adding back 1 star. The point of this review is not to hurt their business - just that people should know it is not risk-free to clean upholstery (odd smells can be due to their chemicals or a reaction between your fabric and their chemicals) & you should know exactly what chemicals are going to be used. The owner came back for free to rinse my couch again - which most people would not do... but for the most part, time (and a lot of open windows) was the only thing that ended up solving the problem. Also, do not do this on a very humid day (70% or more) or the fabrics will not dry quickly & this can also add to the mildewy smell. So, that's the short version - the long one is below. ---- I am writing this for 2 reasons. (1) I noticed that certain companies get 100% positive reviews on yelp possibly because people feel guilty to leave a negative one due to the people who work for the company being so nice. (2) I want to see if anyone else had the problem I did and was able to solve it. So, for # 1 - Yes, Leon is extremely nice... but what happened here was just bad (and it's still bad two weeks later). I had this couch cleaned two years ago with zero issues by another company. This time, there were a lot of issues. My couch now has a moldy basement smell mixed with fake mint - and this was after their second visit to do a rinse procedure on it which didn't help. (The mint is a deliberate additive..the sewer smell is from an unknown source). It did not smell before. I give Leon credit for coming out a second time at no charge rather than brushing it off like some businesses would, but the problem didn't go away. My living room also smells bad too & the smell is the first thing I notice when I walk in. I have had my windows open (and multiple fans on) for days after the first cleaning and the second (plus as much as possible depending on the weather). It didn't help. I took off the cushion covers and discovered that the underlying foam also had this odor. So, it's possible that the cleaning solution and water went through to the underlying padding (the sofa was very wet after it was done being cleaned and the fabric is not waterproof). After I noticed this, I used febreeze on all of the covers and all of the underlying padding. I let that air out with fans for 2 days...but the smell returned. I spoke with the people who cleaned my couch previously to figure out a solution (Jensen Brothers - I highly recommend them - but they only work in the suburbs). I wasn't told what chemical was going to be used on the couch (other than it was green and not a VOC), so it's difficult to say what happened. Later, they used a "dry cleaning" solution that they said was called "Dissolve" - but I couldn't find anything about it. Anyway, most of the dry products have odorless mineral spirits (OMS) in them - which ironically has a bad odor. I have no faith in the "green" label at all since it is basically marketing and not regulated by anyone. The chemical actually made my throat and eyes start to burn (to the point where I had to leave for several hours). So, VOC or not, that was the result. Also, I think there was too much water and cleaning solution used on the couch given that it took so long to dry (about 30 hours rather than 4-6). To be fair, it was humid on the cleaning day - but I air-dry my clothes dry in humid weather and they don't take *that* much longer to dry. I am pretty sure this was due to them using too much water (to soak through to the padding) and too much dry cleaning solution (which potentially had mineral spirits and other problematic chemicals that caused this odor). The cleaning solution did remove basically all of the stains, but it wasn't worth it to have this smell. They left my area rug very wet considering I only had the sofa cleaned. It would've been nice if they vacuumed up what was sprayed on the carpet. The food particles from inside the couch cushions just ended up on the rug - they were never vacuumed up (except by me). They had 4 other jobs after me, so I think they were rushing. Whatever was sprayed on the rug kept leaving a residue on my feet. Every time I walked into the kitchen, it left sticky residue on the kitchen floor that I had to clean up for a few days until I just threw out the rug (hoping the smell would leave with it). Also, I was sort of surprised that they were already filling up a bucket of water in my bath tub about 1 minute after they were inside my place. The bottom of the bucket was not clean and just plopped down in the tub. The cleaning spray went all over the place - including my kitchen table and TV. It wasn't water droplets - it was waxy. I know it's a small space, but I didn't have these problems the last time I had this cleaned, and that was in a smaller space. read more
