Stay away! We had two rugs picked up and cleaned by Northcenter Rug Cleaners. The first one came back just fine, the second one was totally ruined. I don't use that lightly... I mean ruined. The rug in question was originally a light cream color with a variety of blues. It was 100% wool and totally beautiful. We spent around $3,500 on it. When it came back to us the cream had turned into a dirty grey and the blues had changed into these muddy muted tones. I was between work calls and rushed when the rugs arrived. So like an idiot I signed for the rugs without looking at them first. Once I realized the issue, I contacted the shop thinking they could fix it. Just right from the jump the lady I spoke to, Donna, was defensive. Luckily I had before and after photos, so once I provided those there was no denying the issue. Donna said she needed to get in touch with the manufacturer. We thought this was weird, but we were like okay. Let us know. When they got back to us a week later, their response was that there was that the rug was never designed to be cleaned and that the paperwork I signed agrees that the cleaner does not assume responsibility. I was like... wait, what? You took my rug to clean, didn't alert me to any potential problems, then returned it in worse shape than I gave it to you. After weeks of emails, text messages, and phone calls - I went out to their "plant" location and met with the owner. Everyone I spoke with was exceptionally aggressive and downright hostile. At one point they actually were listing off every dirty spot, stain, and pet incident on the rug to explain it was already damaged before I gave it to them. I responded, yes the rug was dirty that's why we brought it to you in the first place but it certainly wasn't damaged. It was like being in some bizarro upsidedown world. They only guarantee the results on a totally clean rug? But they are a rug cleaner! Arrrgghhh During my visit, they admitted the rug was damaged beyond repair. And at the end of the conversation, the owner gave me a handshake agreement that would use their insurance to cover a replacement rug. Needless to say, that replacement rug never came. When I followed up on this, they just told me they changed their minds and weren't going to do that. They today, still have my rug and have never reimbursed me one cent. I should mention that the reason we got the rug cleaned was that we were getting married and having people over to our home. The back and forth with Northcenter Rug took over a month. Then at that point, we were in the middle of a wedding. I didn't have the bandwidth to take them to court. Then so much time passed that it seemed mute. Honestly, I still regret not taking them to court. They ruined something expensive and basically bullied me to the point where they got out of it. I would never use this company. Ever. UPDATE: Please read the owners response. It is exactly the tone and content I expected from them. They try to shame me for having a rug with a couple of pet stains. Stains that we cleaned using home methods. At one point she calls it a "urine filled rug". That's exactly why we brought the rug to a professional cleaner! BTW, the cleaned rug didn't have any pet stains. They were actually able to get those out. Then she tries to blame the problem on the content of the rug. Sorry, but the time to alert me to potential problems cleaning the rug was BEFORE you ruined it! Had they reached out ahead of time and said becuase of the content of the rug this might not come out okay, we would have reconsidered the cleaning. They didn't do that. They ruined it then refused to take responsibility. No body expected miracles here. Just basic decency and ethics. read more

My living room rug is sixteen years old. I have almost ruined it trying to clean it myself. I was afraid to have it cleaned because it could have turned out badly. So I tried shopping first. At my favorite furniture store I found a very pretty rug. However it's Polypropylene. Yikes! My rug is silk. So I took the gamble and hired Northcenter Rug Cleaners because they did a great job on my girlfriend's rug. My rug turned out really good too. And I saved money. The new plastic rug sans delivery costs the same as getting mine cleaned & delivered. Just chatting with the delivery men I found out they sell rugs too! This is a good company. They don't answer their phone and voicemail only says, "you have reached northcenter", and does not mention the name of the business nor their hours. This was my first time using this place. I had two large rugs picked up for cleaning on Feb 9 and they were returned on Feb 16. The rugs were dropped off. When I opened them, there was still dog hair on them. I called right away to describe the dog hair I found and they sent the drivers back to pick them up again. I was guaranteed by Donna that the carpets would be looked at again and cleaned of dog hair. I expressed via email my disappointment. They've been in business over 100 years, you can't tell me my carpet is the first one that had dog hair on it that they ever received. Carpet was returned Wed Feb 23. The larger rug was totally clean and that was the rug that was the dirtiest. The smaller was was not as bad but yes it had dog hair on it. For what I paid, I expect to get the rugs back with NO dog hair. However, the smaller rug still had dog hair on it. Based on their website video and statements listed, these rugs should have been 100% clean. They were not. I received no call asking if I was satisfied with the rugs. I will not be using them again. When I went to pick up my rugs on the promise date, they were not there. I was asked by the rug guy if someone had called me to tell me they were in. No, they did not, but when there is a date on the receipt I make the assumption that that is the day they can be picked up. For the record, I do not call my dry cleaner before I pick up my clothes. I assume they will be ready on the date on the ticket. When I pressed them, they said the rugs would be ready Saturday and that I could drive to their center and pick them up. No offer of delivery, no apologies for the inconvenience. Just a "what can I do" shrug. Guess that is what happens when business is good. read more

I have a big, outdoorsy dog but still thought a cream rug was a good idea :/ I found these guys on Yelp, gave them a call and dropped off my 5x8 rug the same day. While the quote on the phone was given as a range, it was automatically written up at the higher price when I came in, so I'm not sure what the range was based on. In any case, with the drop-off discount, it was $70, which is a great deal for the magic they performed! It was ready two weeks after I dropped it off, and that included the July 4th holiday. You can do much better than Northcenter Rug Cleaners. I sent an email, with pictures of my rugs, dimensions, and a simple request for a quote to clean them which INCLUDED delivery and pick-up. Lo and behold, the final invoice had delivery and pick-up charges added to the quote. I pointed out the discrepancy but they dug in their heels -- even though they had the original email! "We charge for delivery and pick-up!" , they said. That may very well be, but the problem is they provided a quote that included these charges and later added them. I feel duped. A friend called last week and said, what was the name of that rug cleaners you like so much? I looked up North Center on Yelp and realized that I had never written a review about my good experiences here. North Center has cleaned two rugs for me. The first is a wool rug that I purchased in 1999. North Center cleaned it for me in early 2011. Well, we both know now why I didn't write a review. I was too ashamed to tell you all that I had used this rug for almost 12 years, walked on it, sat on it, vacuumed it, cleaned cat vomit off of it, and never brought it in to be cleaned. My bad. I didn't confess any of this to the owner of North Center when I brought it in. Well, I did tell him about cleaning up the cat messes, and what kind of product I had used. He told me, people in the rug cleaning business love to hear that, because those products really don't work so well. That means he, and his peers, get lots of business. He said I'd get the best results simply with wet paper towels. Leave them to soak on the spot, instead of buying some kind of over-hyped product that will make the rug smell odd and leave behind a chemical spot. I got the rug back on schedule, for what I considered a very reasonable price, and it looks good. By the way, I put it in my office, instead of taking it home, so the cat hasn't had an opportunity to decorate it with breakfast. The second rug I took in for cleaning was a "found" rug. "Found", as in, I was walking through the alley behind my building and saw that someone had left out a rug by the garbage cans. I unfolded it. I inspected it. The design and size were right, but it was very, VERY dirty. I considered. Do I really want this? Might it have bugs? I decided to put it in the trunk of my car until I decided whether or not to keep it. And overnight, I remembered North Center. Two days later, we were spreading out my found rug on the floor at North Center. The owner told me what kind of rug it was, how he would clean it, the cost, and when I could expect to pick it up. You know what? The rug looks great. It cost e $54.00 total for the cleaning. It is currently in my living room. And someday, in less than 12 years, I will take it back for another cleaning. Because, while it's a whole heck of a lot cleaner than it was when I grabbed it in the alley, the cat has left her breakfast there once or twice. I used wet paper towels for cleanup. It worked fine. By the way, if you bring in your own rug, they take $10.00 off for "lug your rug." read more

Well I can't comment on the cleaning because I think I'll end up using someone else. Their website says "Contact for a free Quote". Which is exactly what I do and they give me a $75 range and say I have to bring in my 8x10 rug for a real quote. I'm sure this is a marketing tool they use because nobody is going to lug in a huge rug only to take it back home when the price is on the high end of their range. I mean a few questions to your customer can determine whether this is a handmade Persian that needs a special care cleaning or your run of the mill Crate and Barrel machine looped pile. I would like to start by acknowledging that my carpet that I brought in had some blemishes that I didn't think could be fixed. However, my initial impression of a carpet cleaner is that as a professional business, they can do what i would either not be able to do or have a very troublesome time addressing. My carpet came back in almost the exact same condition that i brought it in at. With the exemption of some crusty substance - that i am certain was not there before (they take a video of the carpet's condition.... this was not there)- they may have vacuumed it but that is about it. This carpet had a couple stains on it that may have been impossible to remove. I was not necessarily expecting them to be removed but nothing was done to address them. And if something was done to address it, it certainly did not have any affect. All this nothing for a whopping $200. What a steal... from my pocket. I was excited for the return of my new, CLEAN, carpet but unfortunately i was let down. I would ask for a refund but i see where that has gotten other people in a similar situation from the yelp reviews... nowhere. Not just that but they managed to steal the non-slip sheet that i had under the rug which i dropped off with the rug. Essentially, they delivered my rug with a bundle of disappointment. If you are considering using this company, i suggest you find another company or do the job yourself. Considering this company is one of the highest rated.. I would suggest the latter. read more

I received a free quote off the website, which provided a range for the rug cleaning, as they can't ascertain price until they see the rug. Assuming the top end of the range, plus the other services I required, I estimated what the price would be to clean the rug. When I did bring it in, it wound up being $9 more than I projected to clean my rug. They did a great job cleaning my rug, which was covered in dog hair and awful doggy odors, and making it nearly as good as new. I'm not lying when I say it was painful to drive the rug over there and breath because it smelled so nasty. On the return ride, I could breath easy because the rug was deodorized perfectly. It looks pretty much like new laying on my living room floor. I will be back if I need any more rugs cleaned. They made a believer out of me. read more

Two handmade in Ecuador rugs, that are works of art (to me and others.) What to do. I can't even find a decent rug cleaner for the crappy comes-with-the townhouse rugs on our staircases. I initially messaged the business for a quote, along with six other rug cleaning businesses. They were the ONLY ones to reply in a professional manner. I was quoted a very reasonable price (the other companies I asked were quoting me over $50 more than what North Center quoted). And I really liked the fact that walk-ins are welcome (many of the other places did not allow that). When I took my rug over, the two men working were very nice. I mentioned that I had messaged the business on Yelp earlier and was given a quote. They honored the quoted price. It took ten days to get my rug back and I am super impressed with the results! It is spotless. And for the record the rug is a WHITE, polyester luster shag, made in USA. Before having it cleaned there was basic traffic marks and other gray/dirt stains that I could not explain. Turns out, my rug is smaller than I thought and it's an American made shag rug which costs a lot less to clean than an import. I had a Jute Rug, cream color which had the unfortunate fate of my dog vomiting after she ate some halloween candy. They informed me they would do their best and couldn't promise the stain would come completely out which I understand. The rug was returned and the stain was much lighter, but it seemed like whatever process was used caused lightening of the rug well beyond the stain. It actually seemed like it was rolled up with the cleaning agent still on there, which lightened the rug up to a few feet away. Luckily this was able to be hidden under the couch. Some tips: - They take pictures before you hand it over; you would be wise to do the same before/after. - They didn't unroll the rug for me to inspect the stained area prior to coming home. Maybe they would have if I had asked; I didn't. But they did not offer either. Logistically, I could see how this would take more time; but from a customer service point of view, it would have been nice to have someone explain the process. Maybe there's a good explanation of the lightening of the rug a few feet away; I'll never know. Anyway, people were very nice to work with; and they did get the stain quite a bit lighter. The just performed a miracle for me. I had an 8x10 wool Warhol rug with a Marilyn Monroe image that I had used on the floor of my gallery. It had been rolled up for years because i couldn't bear looking at the stains. They took it in, charges me $70 and returned a rug indistinguishable from new. All stains disappeared. They was a little fuzzing from the wool, but one good vacuum and it all vanished. I can't say enough good things about the service. Just top notch. read more

I took my 4x6 rug here to be cleaned, and it turned out amazing! It's probably even better than it looked when I first got it. When I dropped the rug off, Ken was very knowledgable and courteous. He assessed the needs of my individual rug, explained what I could expect from the cleaning, and gave recommendations on how I should continue to take care of it in the future. My rug was done a little over a week later and they even carried it out to the car for me when I picked it up. Plus, the price was totally reasonable. Who the f**k do you think you are? That's exactly what the man behind the counter (younger chubby guy) told me after he called me a liar about them leaving a voicemail to pick up my rug. I've used them for years and always had a great experience. But this was the very last time they get my business. First off, I dropped my rug on september 2nd and they told me that I was going to be about 3 to 4 weeks due to maintenance in the warehouse, which was not a big deal for me. Today September 25th I call to check on my order and he said that it has been ready since the 10th. He then proceded to say that they called and left a voicemail but the fact is that I never got that call. When I got to the store later, he kept saying that he called and I was lying. Then things got heated and is when he proceded to say who the f**k do you think you are after I told him to shut up about calling me a liar! Bottom line, I don't know what kind of business hires thugs that think can treat customers like that. Icing on the cake is that I called the main office to complain about the incident, and got treated like s**t again, woman hung up the phone on me. I dropped my 8x10 almost new rug off for cleaning. Besides some pet stains and hair the rug was in good condition. They take video and document on the receipt any damage. When I picked it up and got it home there was a four inch rip at one of the ends. When I called to report this I spoke to Donna who insisted that they "weren't responsible." She was rude and showed no empathy for having destroyed my rug. I asked to speak to the owner and she was in no hurry to give me his information. Even though the video and receipt show no damage at the time of drop off she still insisted it was not done by them. I am STILL waiting for the owner to return my calls. read more
