I had to scream!! I will never go there again. What happened to the original soda fountain that was here for 100 years? There are less than 150 original soda fountains left in the entire USA. The Minnesoda was a totally original historical gem to the Park Rapids area and no longer exists because of thoughtless shameful owners. This was no minor change as Trip Advisor and Yelp try to claim. Look at the old pictures from just 4 years ago. DESTROYED the original fountain. They could have opened a NEW shop anywhere else in town but the new owners and the city decided to delete the history of Park Rapids. How sad and heartbreaking. They should have taken pride in preservation. SHAMEFUL!!! read more

I went with the creamy chicken wild rice soup in a bowl, just a bit bigger then a cup really for $6.50, came out cold but I ate it anyway, waitress asked how everything was I told the truth and she said you should have said something I would have microwaved it for you... ha ha ok Everyone else has fish which is nothing special it looked like and they said as well One had the BBQ chicken flat bread and they said that was good Not sure I'll go back for a while, new place trying to reinventing the wheel on Main Street. This place is great. They greet you with a smile then the service is outstanding. Everything is quality from the cutlery to the ingredients. I had the pulled Pork Sandwich and my Wife had The Turkey Bacon Avocado. We had been in a few weeks before for Ice Cream at 3 minutes before closing with our Grandchildren from Vegas and they stayed open and happily accommodated us. The owner saw us standing outside afterwards and asked us if we got everything and our Daughter said everything was wonderful but she wished she would have had a Coke. The Owner then brought her out a free soda after closing! Talk about service. read more

I have been coming to the Minnesoda Fountain since I was a child, so my review might be a little biased because of the amazing childhood memories I have there. This is the definition of a no-frills old school malt shop, but if that's what you're in the mood, you can't go wrong. The prices are reasonable and the ice cream is good. I've always had good service here and appreciate the classic charm the place has. I got a hot fudge banana split, and while it could have used a bit more hot fudge, it was exactly what I was looking for. Congratulations to the Minnesoda Fountain for making it 100 years! read more

It has been a tradition to visit this historic, fun, and delicious Fountain shop each time we come to Itasca State Park. The desserts are delicious, the staff friendly, and all the Coca-Cola memorabilia makes it a nostalgic place to visit. Sadly, the new owner switched the place to serving Pepsi and ruined the perfect experience for us. I hope some day they switch back. read more

Don't make the mistake of thinking the MinneSoda Fountain is just like any other soda fountain. It is SO much more! Due to my Grandma's insistance, my family tried this restaurant a couple summers ago. I had a Chicken Breast and Cheese Sandwich with the works and a Mint Bon Bon shake. The shake was amazing. My wife and I decided to take a day trip to Park Rapids, MN, and this was one of the places we wanted to check out; only problem was we had our dog with us, so it was just me who went inside. I collect Coca-Cola memorabilia, so I was impressed when I walked in and saw their decor; unfortunately, that was also the highlight of my experience there. I went in to get a take-out menu, and I had to wait nearly five minutes behind this teen girl who kept gabbing to her friend (who worked there) about this-and-that. Finally, the girl asked how she could help me, and I got a to-go menu. After perusing their menu, I went back in to place our order. I asked a kid, who had a vacant stare on his face (like most teens today), if I could place my order with him, and he said to go to the end of the counter where they were making the food. I went there, only to be sent back to the counter where the blank-faced teen still stared at the wall. I was about to walk out altogether, but another young man stepped forward to take my order. I ordered two sub sandwiches with their soup and soda combo. Both of our sandwiches had turkey, but I was then informed that they were out of turkey, and if it would be ok to substitute mesquite turkey instead; I said that was fine. A minute goes by, and the kid informs me that they only had enough mesquite turkey to make one sandwich; he then asked if they could substitute chicken on one of the subs. Really? As this point, I'm regretting our decision to have lunch here (and not dessert), but it's after 2:00 in the afternoon, and I haven't eaten anything yet, so I wait until they box-up our meals, pay $24 for our food, and I leave. We decided to have our lunch at a local park, because it was a beautiful day outside (and, again, we had our dog with us). I asked for both sandwiches to be on wheat bread (when the kid asked), and they were both on white; guess they ran out of wheat bread, too. The sandwiches were ok, but for the price we could have gotten better-tasting sandwiches at Subway. The Beef with Barley Soup was good, but the Wisconsin Cheese Soup was so bland it may as well have been warmed-up Cheez Whiz; and it probably was. Overall, I would just avoid this place for a meal, and go to another restaurant in Park Rapids; McDonald's was across the street from the MinneSoda Fountain, and I think even that would be better. However, if you want a decent dessert, this place would probably be your best bet in town. If we ever go to this establishment again it will be for a milkshake or a sundae, but that would be it. read more

Have to say I learned my lesson about judging a book by it's cover. Cute little place but then I saw they served Kemp's ice cream and I thought "We can get that anywhere" and walked out. Stopped by here for some lunch and shakes with friends. I ordered the roast beef sub 1/2 size and a chocolate banana shake. There half size looked to be like a foot long sub I can't imagine what there full size sub looked like. The sub was yummy (way way better than subway) and the shake was amazing tasted like a chocolate covered banana! Most awkward service. It appeared that no one really knew who they should help or how to handle multiple people coming in. We sat at the counter and it was awhile before anyone came over to us, even longer for one of them to remove the dirty dishes. We did think our milkshake and sundae were tasty but it was painful to watch then kinda try and get everyone served. There were people standing by the "please wait to be seated" sign for a solid 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged their presence. The prices are way too high, the service is an embarrassment, and the atmosphere has turned into a complete mess because of the lousy customer service. My family and I wanted to get some ice cream to end the day in beautiful Park Rapids MN. So we decided to come to this place. We walked inside and the sign said please wait to be seated, so we waited for a minute and the lady standing there told us to seat yourself. My family and I sat down and decided what we were going to order. A girl behind the counter had to tell a teenage boy to help us but he took his time coming over to us. The boy approached us and stared blankly at us until we got his attention to order. We ordered and the boy had to ask us again what we wanted. Guess he wasn't ready to write down our order. Once we ordered my ice cream came first and then he had to get more plastic spoons so he went to the back to get more. While he came back he was dilly dallying around taking awhile. Everyone behind the counter but one girl was working everyone else seemed unhappy to be there. Once we finally got all of our ice cream, I asked the boy where we should pay and he just pointed to the desk next to the door. No "thanks for coming!" or "have a nice day!" just a point. Horrible customer service! When we entered the café, we were told that they were too busy to help us. We waited outside until several parties left and then sat at the counter. We sat at the counter for 7 minutes with no acknowledgement from anyone. A larger table opened during this time, so we moved to it. As we walked by the waitress, she rolled her eyes at us. Again, we waited another 7 minutes at the table with no acknowledgement. At this time, it was obvious they were not going to help us, so we left. I believe the owner was present and was the one to tell us they were too busy to help us. I understand being shorthanded, but you are in the service business and sometimes that's part of the game and you still have to provide the best service you can. I would never recommend this place! It was awful! I didn't eat after watching the staff. The counter and menus were sticky and coated with previous diner's food. When we asked the waitress to wipe, she was obviously annoyed and did a poor job then threw dishrag on clean dishes. Dishwasher killed fly with flyswatter ON THE COUNTER AND NEVER WIPED IT OFF! My mom heard him bragging about all the flies he had killed already. He carried the flyswatter in a pocket swaying around food. They left the ice cream freezer open for more than 15 minutes. Staff had drinks and food that they consumed next to "clean" dishes. Another customer asked for glass of water and dishwasher who was wearing gloves in filthy dishwater took glass and filled without washing hands or removing gloves. Not sure why we even stayed! save you money, skip the ice cream and nostalgia and step next door to BEYOND JUICE...Amazing soup and sandwiches. for 5.99 they will give you what they call a half A sandwich but its actually 3/4 because the only thing they trim off each piece of bread is less than two inches to make homemade garlic bread sticks that comes with your cup of two, your meal also comes with a generous serving of greek potato salad a slice of fruit and a smoothie called total energy. You will not find that kind of deal at minnesota fountain. The wait staff is actually pretty bad year after year, management evidently does not care how the teens they hire treat folks, I'm not against teens, I'm against rudeness. Your at work , do you job and be helpful;...aka wait on me with a friendly glad to serve you smile, and be knowledgeable about the the products. The food is nothing real special but I promise you if you go next door to beyond juice, owned by a Doctor, you will find delicious nutritious food at an amazing price, nice folks to make your sandwich fresh while you watch, and no its no subway, (get the turkey cran on marble rye), best chicken salad@Beyond juice too, all albacore white tuna with very little mayo and a hint of lime. excellent HOMEMADE soups like Chicken Wild Rice, Tuscan Garden Veggie, Summer Corn, Tomato Bisque and to die for lobster Bisque...you will not find quality homemade food with great service from people who care about your pallet' or your satisfaction at minnesota fountain like you will right next door, Beyond Juice, it has a teeny shoe shop in the back of the store, the only public bathroom on that side of the block and unreal smoothies, get the whipped ninja ;-). Look, bottom line is, the food is excellent, but the service is horrible. I wouldn't have written this after one bad experience either. We have a cabin nearby and have visited four years in a row. Every time has been the same. Absolutely inexcusable waits and lack of attention. This year was just the worst. With two young kids we waited ten minutes to have our order taken, and then nearly FORTY more for our full order to arrive. Nearly an HOUR for our food. All we ordered was two half-subs and a single sundae. Absolutely ridiculous, and the place wasn't even swamped. It was near capacity after a while, but not when we first ordered. They didn't even stop by the table to check on us, our drinks, or explain what was going on. Any other sub or ice cream shop could have gotten our food to us within 10 minutes at the absolute slowest. Like I said, if this was a one time experience I wouldn't be here to scorch them, but it's been every single time we have been there. read more
