A lot has changed in the Porter lounge in the last year so I feel its time for an update on this review. I go through the Porter lounge about once a month at minimum so I've seen it through the renos on a pretty consistent basis and I will give them props for doing a pretty good job. There is way more space, nicer bathrooms, water refill stations, more spots to post-up with your laptop at an actual table, and way more places to plug in and charge your various devices. All good things. Most recently (we're talking a few weeks as of this review) they unveiled their new onsite meal options. Here are the pros and cons as I see them: Pro: Two new dining options (Balzac's and Obispo) means higher quality options than the previous offerings of cold pre-made sandwiches and salads and the like. I haven't eaten at either yet though so I can't comment on level of quality. Con: No more free coffee tea and snack area! Having grown so accustomed to this over the years, this really bums me out. I assume this was probably part of the contract with the new food partners - why would people buy coffee and snacks from Balzac's and Obispo at the same rate when they can get free stuff across the hall? Pro: They brought back the chocolate chip shortbread cookies! Walkers is great don't get me wrong, but these babies are beauts. Find them in a little cart with bottled water (also free - but again, there are water refill stations onsite if you already have a vessel) on the opposite side of the lounge from the dining options. Everything here is still great relative to other airports, but the loss of my free coffee and tea is bumming me out enough to knock down from a 5 to 4. read more

First time flying with Porter, and the experience is pretty amazing if you've flown bigger airports. This one is smaller, and makes each passenger feel like VIP. The security was a breeze, no long lines, we got here so early that we were waiting for the staff to arrive! Too used to flying out of Pearson! The lounge has lots of comfy seating - there is seating in the waiting/lounge area and also in the little cafe area. The cafe area serves drinks (water, pop, coffees/teas) for FREE. Not the crappy stuff - the name brand stuff - Coke, Sprite, Starbucks Tazo teas. You also get snacks - for FREE! Cookies and mixed nuts/pretzels. And you can take as much as you want. Located across downtown Toronto. This airport has a free shuttle bus that picks people up on front street. During summer can choose to option to take the ferry across. It's a bit longer then the tunnel but can be a fun experience for the kids. Small check in area as not a lot of traffic but there are hourly flights to Montreal. It was my first time flying with Porter and I went in with no expectations. Had a flight to Chicago on a Friday night at 8pm on a long weekend. I got to the airport around 6:30pm with little to no line for security (checked in prior with no checked bags). The lounge was under construction during this time and for a Friday evening before the long weekend, it was packed. There weren't many seats available and many of the flights were delayed by an hour or more even though the weather was fine. Porter staff were diligent on announcing the status of each flight though so miscommunication was never an issue. The complimentary snack bar did run out of cups at times due to the amount of people waiting around but there were always staff around cleaning and refilling to the best of their abilities. The flight itself wasn't too bad. For a short flight to Chicago from Toronto (around 1.5 hours), they served snacks and drinks. There was turbulence and because it was a small plane, the landing was bumpy but that was to be expected of a smaller plane. People who are not comfortable with plane rides would most likely not enjoy this experience. Overall, though my flight was delayed and with the airport being busy, my first Porter experience wasn't entirely horrible. They made the best out of unfortunate circumstances. I would take their flights again due to the convenience of their services (complimentary snacks, in flight snacks, free shuttle, location). read more

Hey, this is my 225th review. Yay, for me! Alright, jet noise aside, it is great to have an airport right downtown. Sure, it is not a major international one, however, who would want a monstrosity of an airport smack in the middle of the city? Who are we? Tegucigalpa? Rio De Janeiro? So instead, we have this minor airport on the island. It is cute and heck, you even get to take an adorable quick ferry ride to get there -- which might not be for much longer once the tunnel is completed. So of course, like any one time you go on a trip you leave enough time for delays so I have no problems with the ferry in case I miss it, I mean, you do not wait any longer than 10-15 minutes at the longest. Once inside, the Lounge is a great little place to spend some time on comfy couches, free drinks and snacks. Not to mention the obligatory Wifi and plugs to recharge your electronics. Plus other things if you are willing to pay for them. It is a simple, yet untaxing (see what I did there?) way to wait for your flight. I mean, how do most other airports out there compare to the simple pleasures you get in this public lounge? Compare Pearson, where they care less if you sat on the floor... so you have to admit, the lounge here is a great way to relax before your flight. If I can afford it, I normally will come just a little bit earlier in order to have a few more minutes with on some fatty snacks as I sit down and take it easy. You should too. Porter knocked it out of the park with this lounge. Absolutely amazing! Travel can be stressful, but thanks to this amazing lounge, Porter removed the stress of pre flight jitters, waiting in uncomfortable seats, over priced beverages and loud departing gates. The first time I encountered this lounge I was in awe. I figure it was just something Porter was doing since they were new and things would change. That's not the case. They are truly committed to traveller comfort! The lounge is bright, open and full of very comfy seating areas. Aside from the odd child, the lounge is pretty quiet and calm. If you're traveling on business, there are abundance of places to charge your devices, papers to read and wifi access is a free for all. Ok on to the good stuff. Porter offers free, yes, I said FREE unlimited Starbucks coffee, Starbucks tea, bottled water, juice and pop. On top of that they offer really amazing chocolate shortbread cookies and almond packages, also unlimited and free. Obviously, the honour system is to be used, and you shouldn't fill your carry on with the equivalent of a full case. If you're looking for something more substantial, they also offer paid food such as sandwiches at reasonable prices. The staff is friendly, and they are always cleaning up left over cups and tiding the papers. If you're looking to confirm your seat, flight time and such, they also have flight service agents available. The bar is set very high for lounges!! I'm not sure I could fly any other company for short distances after experiencing this type of lounge service that is free to all who are flying, regardless of ticket option purchased. read more

Um, holy crap. This Airport Lounge provides free beverages (juice, coffee, tea, water, soda) and salted almonds and cookies. FREE. The dude next to me drank at least five free waters, and the guy sitting in front of me had at least four sodas. There is no end to freebies. You have to pay for some goods, and you have to pay with credit/debit, which was hella annoying because I wanted to get rid of my Canadian cash money. Also, free WiFi. I only noticed charging outlets near the wall closest to the freebie stations, which is kind of annoying, because the lounge seating takes up the rest of the area. But with everything for free, who cares! You get to have Starbucks coffee in an actual coffee cup, and if your lazy ass cannot take it back to the cleaning area, their cleaning staff comes around and takes it for you. I recommend you not being that jerk who leaves their garbage everywhere though. There are no signs that say FREE FREE FREE, and it took me at least 20 minutes of people watching to realize no one was stealing and that it was ours for the taking. read more

Lets start this off being brutally honest... this is no lounge. This is basically a small holding area for connecting flights into the US from other parts of Canada. Since we do not go through security here, it is basically like a way station. This is pretty much what I expect from a Canadian jail after committing the crime of attempting to leave. They need a bar. They get points for having free sodas and some weak snacks available, but a bar is needed. There is a Duty Free there, but they close really early. There are some drinks for sale, but they are weak and pricey. They need a place to sit an drink and chat with a bartender and get some snacks. There are also no decent food options. Chex Mix, and some sandwiches in bags like a gas station. Not really a plus. It was packed. Hard to find a seat and even harder when traveling with people. This place needs to be bigger and have more seating for people. Did I mention a bar? All in all, the people were nice, the area was moderately clean (travelers can be pigs), the wifi was free but slow, and there are a bunch of power plugs. I cant give it more than a meh, but I know it could definitely be worse. Oh, and the bathrooms.... not good. Very busy airport bathrooms. No peace, always smelly. This review is technically for the lounge, but it really is for the vibe of the airline, which I loved. The lounge for all people was so wonderful and elegant and tranquil. The coffees, cool beverages, almonds, nice lamps, cozy chairs, awesome water/plane/downtown views. I was just so impressed by the Toronto City Airport experience, and the beautiful lounge available to all passengers - there is no question that I will fly Porter again, and I actually cannot wait to do so. read more

Yeah, this place rocks. I love the ambiance; calm and not too noisy. Plenty of places to charge electronic devices before the fight. Snacks: so good. I love the almonds and selection of beverages. Bonus: if you are famished and in need of more of a meal, the cafe (for $$) offers really nicely done to-go items. The salmon salad was outstanding, and definitely didn't skimp on the salmon. This is the type of lounge that encourages you to get to the airport well before your flight, and not because you think the TSA line will be so long that you need the extra time. Everyone loves flying Porter, except me. I mean, it's okay. The airport is local to downtown, and the commute is quick, but to get to the island, you have to catch the ferry. I just miss the ferry EVEY SINGLE TIME resulting in an unnecessary 20+ minute wait. I can't wait until the walkway is done (expected January 2015). In addition, Porter had implemented a number of cost cutting measures and new revenue tools. First checked bag is now $28.75, food is available for purchase in the lounge, breakfast is no longer served on AM flights... I feel that they are losing a lot of the charm that they were known for. At least they're still serving wine in flight (for how much longer?) Lastly, my last 2 flights (1 month apart) the latte machines were not working AND they have seriously damaged my bag on both flights (serious damage requiring replacement of a ~$200 bag). The last flight I didn't report it right away, so there was nothing they would do. This time they have said that they will cover the cost of replacement, but there is no compensation for inconvenience! I have to travel for business, so I will continue using their services, but it's just now what it used to be. read more

With the great lounge space, snacks and seats, plus free wifi its not as painful having to wait for delayed flight. The check - in service varies depending on customer service and on - ground crew assisting. If you get a grumpy Joe, to help you check in then too bad. But if you get Mr. Cheery Jerry, then that will make a good start of your flight. I feel that porter or at least the billy bishop airport prides itself in delivering impeccable customer service. I really liked how they offered complimentary shuttle service right by the union station, an underground pathway and now a lounge that serves complimentary drinks. Currently, I'm sipping on tazo tea by Starbucks. Zen it is lol. I'm still trying to get used to it, the only thing that bothers me is how customers need to stay in the lounge before heading to the designated gate. Probably because of the size of this airport. This lounge is great and a good way to start off a flight with Porter. They have free non alcoholic drinks and a few snacks before the flight. The small duty free shop actually came in handy and it's about the same price as other free shops, but in CAD! Free Wi-Fi is great too. Only issue is with the gates - they have a hard time managing people getting through the gates and it can create quite a confusion when multiple flights are boarding at the same time, through the same door out of the lounge but a different gate. Need to make sure someone is there to remind people where to go since nobody listens to the announcements made over the intercom. read more

As far as any free airport lounge/waiting area goes, this is probably as good as it gets. I think they may have cut down on their amenities since Porter first started out (my friends who used the airline in its early days spoke of Mac computers for use!), but you won't see free snacks and drinks and comfy seating areas in ANY other airport that I know of--if there are others, don't hold back! As far as I know, there is no free booze pre-boarding but there is on the plane. In other words, you're not allowed to board drunk, but it's OK once you're actually ON the plane. Got it? Maybe I sound like an old granola-lady for saying so but I really wish they would put more cookies in the packs as the wrapper is pretty wasteful for two tiny cookies which are uber-buttery (probably a large part LARD, but still yummy!). If you have a long way to go and are on a serious budget, load up on their ultra-salty almonds. I'm sure the sodium will keep you bloated long enough that you won't need to eat for hours on end or feast on the snacks and drinks on-board. read more
