They have incompetent people taking orders and when you do not receive your order correctly and go to manager... they state you didn't pay for it and chose to reprimand their employee instead of solving my situation. The food is hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken croissants -- usual fast food, nothing special but comfortable. What upset me was their refusal to honor a "promotional" gift card my wife received when she bought gift cards for holiday giving. The shift manager pointed out that this limit was on the card -- which of course my wife couldn't see until she bought it -- and on a sign in the drive up area, among all the other signs for various promotions. (She doesn't recall whether she bought it at the drive thru or inside.) They're local, economical and fairly quick and have a booming business. Though it doesn't have the best location, the food that comes out of this location is great. I'd say that of all the Portillo's I've been to, they, by far have the best dogs. They don't skimp on the toppings and they put on just the right amount of everything. I like the slight sogginess in the bun of my dog and the fries here, though a bit crispy on the outside, are delicious, warm, and soft on the inside... Yummay! I keep on loving this place because of the local flair. The two gals working the registers rapped off my order in to the microphone just because I was having a bad day. The manager came over to make sure everything was ok. That's when it got better because he joined in rapped off a few lines, which made my stop in all that much better. Had a bad experience last night. We ordered some salads, hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, fries and drinks. The girl serving the food on the tray piled up everything in one tray like a tower so, when I went to get it the salad fell on the floor making a mess with the dressing. " I cleaned it up" when we open the Italian beef sandwiches they were plain no peppers or anything I went to the counter and ask if they are supposed to have peppers it was my first time ordering it. It says on a big sign above them Italian beef with peppers and on the menu too. If I needed to order them separately like he said the cashier should had asked me if I wanted them and he NEVER ASKED anything. When I asked him at least give me some Ghiardinerra peppers he gave me this sauce that tasted like crap not good at all. Very disappointed. Teach your employees to 1 not stack the food like Mount Everest and 2 ask if we want toppings or whatever the case may be. It was not a good experience for us. read more

I've been a lifelong fan of Portillo's food. I don't care if it's the Italian Beef, Chopped Salad, Beef & Cheddar Croissant, or the Cheeseburger. They're all delicious. It's also a pretty decent value, given the fact that I consider Portillo's food as being similar to what you would eat at a sit-down restaurant. Every experience I've had at this Portillo's recently has given me absolutely no reason to complain. The staff has treated me kindly and with respect, and they're always friendly, whether I go through the drive-thru or dine-in. If I make a special request, it's always done correctly. I've yet to bring home something I purchased there and been unsatisfied with the quality of the food. Cheeseburgers are always fresh, hot, and to my satisfaction. French Fries are crunchy, and not lukewarm or soggy. And I've yet to be overcharged or missing an item from my order when going to the Portillo's at this location. And, at the end of the day, can you really ask for anything more? I can't. read more

Been coming to Portillos since I was little. Today I had lunch in Addison. Ordered grilled Portabella mushroom sandwich, french fries no salt, Caesar salad, and sweet and hot peppers on the side. I was charged $.60 each for the peppers. I opened up the Styrofoam container of sweet peppers to find two little slivers. I went to the counter to ask if there was a mistake and the girl behind the counter said no that's what you get for $.60 two pieces of green peppers. Also not only at this location but other locations the grilled portobello sandwich is served lukewarm. Cheese never fully melts. Seems to be a paradigm. But not a good one. read more

****WARNING. UNSANITARY*** Wow, what a disaster this place has become. I've been complaining for a long time that the customer service has been declining and the temp of the food and/or the accuracy of the order is hit or miss. They really outdid their selves this time I received my order with about 4 cars still ahead of me in line. I asked the kid that handed me my order if he can have the other cars move to spots like they normally do so I can get out. He said he will see what he can do. In the meantime I saw him hand 2 other orders to people around me. They determined it was the wrong order and called him over. There were discussions, bags opened by the customer and employees then they took those bags of food and brought it to the correct person. So that person received food that was handed and opened by other people. This happened twice! That's disgusting during normal times let alone during a pandemic. How are they training their employees?!?! Not only did 2 people get the wrong food. Several other orders came out and they looked absolutely bewildered with it. God know how many other people received the wrong order Meanwhile, I'm still stuck in the line waiting to get out. I got ahold of a second drive through employee and again asked if he can get me out of the line by moving the cars In front of me. He said he couldn't do that. They only do that for people with large orders, which is a flat out lie. Ive ordered a burger and fries and have been asked to wait in a parking spot. I decided to call the manager on the phone...still while stuck in the line. I had to sit through a long prerecorded message first, then hold for an employee to answer. An employee answered and I asked for a manager. More hold time. I explained to the manager the situation and she seemed annoyed that I was calling and just said she would see what's going on in the drive through. Didn't seem to care much. I made her aware the employees were handing food to the wrong people then taking it back after it had been opened and giving it to the other people. No comment from her. She did say she would remake my order but as she was saying it, all the people ahead of me got their order so I just drove off plus proper food handling isn't their priority. Based on the unsanitary conditions I observed I didn't even eat my food. I decided catching some disease isn't worth the $7 of food so I threw it out and went somewhere else. Amazing Chicken tenders and Hot Dogs!! I love going to Portillos , it's amazing! Their food is always fresh and hot. I'm so happy this one is close to me! I love their service. They have people who take my order right away and have people in every car! I love getting their chicken tenders and cheese fries! I also really like their Hot Dogs! Their Hot Dogs have so much impact on it! I especially love getting their regular Hot Dogs! It's so good. Everything is affordable. If I go inside it's very clean and big. Overall I would give it a 4.5/5 because the pickup is a bit of time but is 100% worth it. If I eat inside, their service is very fast. The most disgusting bathroom I have ever seen. The men's side had the toilet overflowed with feces on the floor. My daughter went into the women bathroom and turned around and left. 2 of the three stall were closed off with toilet also overflowing. The open stall had paper towels on the floor and needed to be stepped over to user the unclean toilet. Reported issue to staff with no response. Suggested to close the bathroom. Anyone who just enters either bathroom will spread feces around the restaurant. What has happened to Portillo's it just is not that good anymore and they don't reflect the quality in the price it is still super expensive for fast food there is still always a massive line around the building for the drive-through, The hamburgers do not taste as fresh as they used to same with their hotdogs, ever since they were bought out by another buyer from Dick Portillo quality has literally gone downhill. One item is still good thank God which is the cheese fries deafly go and try those whenever you have the chance to go to Portillo's, there are hundreds of better places for Italian beef's, and their hotdogs are just OK.. One of their great promotions they do in the summer time is the Rib deal ...you can get a full slab of ribs with a baked potato and coleslaw for a really reasonable price. That said, this location is a little weird -- you have to cross the drive-through lane to get to the door, it's not quite as big or well-decorated as some of the others, that kind of thing. I had my first-ever Portillo's cheeseburger (normally I get hot dogs) and let me tell you.... it was really greasy. Delicious, but greasy. I could practically feel my arteries tightening. The clerks don't shout your order, nobody's smiling, and it's just a bit too quiet. A saw a board with a "feature" meal: two hot dogs, fries and a drink. I asked how much that meal cost. The clerk told me $8. I told him that wasn't much of a bargain. He told me it wasn't a discounted special, it was just a suggested combination. WTF? What really brings me to Portillo's is the italian beef sandwiches. Extra dipped with hot giadinera peppers, it's one of my most favorite guilty pleasures whenever I visit Chicago. It's one of the best italian beef sandwiches in Chicago and definitely the most iconic. The cheeseburgers and fries are pretty good too, but I rarely get them because it always seems a shame not to order an italian beef. In the years I've been living away from Chicago, Portillo's has started to serve salads. Not sure when they started that, but it seems kinda weird to me. Also, not sure when they started charging for the hot peppers, but what's up with that? This is the Portillo's Cradle of Life! the first Portillo's was a hot dog stand in Villa Park just a few miles away. This location was opened when I was in Jr. High and I used to hang out here while waiting for my mother to pick me up when I stayed at school late or when I had to get some work done at the library. So this review has a tinge of nostalgia. I love Portillo's. Strangely, I haven't had a Portillo's hot dog until recently. I usually ordered the cheeseburgers and Italian Beef sandwiches. The burgers are great, but a bit messy. The Italian Beef sandwiches are tasty and not too greasy or soggy. One thing that people tend to overlook is the chocolate cake.
