This is brand new to Fort Wayne and have now tried it a couple times. I've heard raving reviews as it comes from Chicago so I had to see for myself. The outside is absolutely great. It has that old timer retro feel and once you step inside, again the same vibe. It's so neat and inviting. A perfect place to go with your family. Disclaimer though, the wait for food takes quite a bit of time! I would say don't go if you're in any rush. I've heard I have to try the Italian beef but I haven't yet. I instead opted for the hot dogs. Being honest I didn't think the hot dogs are worth seeking out. If you're from Fort Wayne you know that Bravas has the best or for a good cheap place you have Coney Island. This place had neither the other two have. My father in law has been bringing me Portillos from Chicago since I met my husband four years ago. I thought they were delicious cold and reheated. Psh, fresh off the grill was ah-mazing!!! Their fries are good. The onion rings were ok, but nothing to write home about. Customer service was outstanding. Workers buzzing around everywhere to make sure it flows and the restaurant is clean. I'm so excited to have Portillo's in the Fort! Only suggestion I have? Put napkin holders in the tables. I had to get up twice to collect more napkins. This place is fun. The decore is fun. The music is fun. The food announcer is fun and the food is good. You got to try this place out. My daughter felt like we went to a theme park. As for the food, I had an Italian Meat and Sausage on French bread. From what I could see they were making their own bread. It was good. It looked like you were supposed to order with a side of dip to make it like a French dip. I ate mine dry but added hot peppers which turned out to be GiardinIera, which is awesome. I wish they put more of it on the sandwich. Their original version of the sandwich is without sausage. My wife and daughter got their Beef and Cheddar Croissant sandwich and they really liked it. I believe their roots are in hotdogs and they got those too. As well as, burgers and salad. I look forward to trying out the rest of the menu. This is somewhat of a difficult review for me to write, because I am such an avid and loyal fan of Portillo's. Aside from the location at Coliseum here in Ft. Wayne, I've been a guest at 3 other locations--And all of those locations is truly what has made me not only fall in love with them, but more than that, has placed them at one of my all-time favorite places to frequent and dine at. When I found out that they were going to build this one here in Ft. Wayne, I was beyond myself. I raved about it on Facebook, at work to my coworkers who had never eaten there, and to my family across the US. The excitement that I was filled with was just absolute awesomeness. Today, I finally had the opportunity to go into their new location in front of Glenbrook Mall for the first time. I walked in the door, and immediately felt the same atmosphere that I had felt from walking into the others. However, as soon as I approached the registers, everything completely changed for the worst. While looking at the menu to decide on what I was hungry for, a Portillo's employee (kind of younger white guy named Chris) approached me clearly on his break, and asked if I wouldn't mind if he placed his order while I contemplated on my order. I said sure, he was polite and there was no reason why he should have to wait while I was undecided. He approached my cashier, placed his order, and then just continued to stand there to just "chat it up" with her about how busy they were and how she was for the next couple of minutes with no regard to those of us who were finally ready to place our orders. Once he did move on and I went to place my own order, Candece who was my cashier--Treated me from beginning to end as if I was the last person that she wanted to assist. She was slouching in her posture, I had to inform her a couple of times of the items that I did not want to come on my food due to allergic reactions, she never smiled once, and quite honestly, I felt that at any moment, she was going to start twirling her hair and possibly blow a bubble from the gum that she was chewing. **SERIOUSLY?!?!?** I was truly in utter disbelief!!! She was extremely friendly to her coworker Chris who I previously mentioned, but to anyone else and I did observe her service with another customer who came after I did--You would have thought that someone had died. Once I got to the pickup station however, Kelvin who was the gentleman who handed me my order, was absolutely fantastic. He was singing on the intercom, super friendly with the customers, and genuinely awesome having us laughing......Delivering the Portillo's Experience. The food quality was great in itself, but concerning those two associates Chris and Candece (That is how her name is spelled), for me it's almost worth not even returning for quite some time, which is very disappointing. First they forgot my drink and I get that it happens, Second the burger was not that good it tasted awful, Third I ate the whole box of fries just to find a piece of someone's hair at the bottom of it. 8/16/23. The Mr Coney Drive thru drive up at dinner time. That was my first mistake. The cashier who rudely takes the orders ( I've gotten her as cashier b4) as I drove up I saw her ungloved hand drop my tenderloin into fry basket!! Yuck! We were actually pulling into the Checkers parking lot & happened to discover this place, and since my 13 year old niece is all about the 50s right now we decided to try it. The decor is very well done; lots of 50s memorabilia & pictures paired with the standard red-and-chrome color scheme. The food (burgers, fries and chicken tenders) was reasonably priced and delicious; even my 7 year old nephew who is notorious for only eating his dinner when he feels like it commented on how good it was, and we all enjoyed the fries dipped in the generous portion of cheese sauce that my niece ordered. All in all I would definitely visit this place again. It also helped that they were still open at 6:30-7:00 on a Sunday night when it appeared most other places in town had already closed. Wow! Great food and Great service! I had never had Portillos before today. Pulling up to the drive thru reader board, an outside attendant took our order. She was very friendly! It was cold outside and I felt bad for her being out there. She did an impressive job with our order. If your listening owner or manager give this employee some kudos. Why would you have dozens of orders of fries cooked already when there are only 5 two top tables eating already and 4 people in line ?? She charged me 60 cents for peppers and nothing for my Husbands grilled onions. The beef was DRY as hell !! If you scooped it off (I did) there was less meat then an Arbys junior roast beef chopped up. I got one with a polish sausage n beef. The Sausage was just barely warm. Husband was mad cause there was more bread then beef. The salad was okay, but be aware there is bacon on it if you can't eat pork. Everything added is extra to a sandwich. That's okay if your food is good and hot. We don't care. But this is not the case here. Not even busy and at least 15 people at the work area. Beverages were flat and Husbands root beer , yuck he said. Dumped it and drank my coke. They have been open long enough to be better then this. You all enjoy yourself and waste your money we will go elsewhere. Penn Station had waaay better steak sandwiches and salads. Won't be back. Also forgot to add that our bill was $35.35.
