The Streamwood Portillo's is one of those places that used to feel a lot better when I was younger, but lately it just hasn't been the same. The food is still decent--it gets the job done and satisfies the craving--but it's definitely downgraded compared to how it used to be. It doesn't have that same quality or consistency that made it stand out before. What really brings the experience down is the staff. There's a noticeable lack of effort and care, like employees are just going through the motions. The service feels rushed and unwelcoming, and it doesn't leave a good impression. On top of that, the register service lady was especially rude, which made things even worse. It's disappointing because Portillo's used to feel like a place that took pride in both food and service. This is my go-to location to enjoy Portillo's. The drive through isn't the largest but the line always moves quick. Drive through staff could smile a bit more but are pretty accurate to get your order correct. I love ordering my fries well done so they're crispy and it's a 50/50 chance they actually do it. Either way, Portillo's always hits the spot and food orders are consistent. I love their hotdogs/fries and my husband enjoys their beef, burgers, and spicy chicken sandwich! Don't order the ribs from this location, especially when nobody is completely manning the grill. The ribs here are fully cooked before it arrives into the store, and then reheated on a gas grill when ordered, supposing to give it a charboiled, smokey taste. I like using the Portillo's app, and did so again, ordering the same things as normal (italian beef, chicago style hot dogs, and cheese fries), but this time added a full slab of baby back ribs. Got there on-time, and the pick-up guy told me I had to wait 5 more minutes. He then went to the gas grill, and tossed a full rack of fully cooked ribs on (it was the only thing on), and then disappeared. Since I needed to wait anyway, I now a front row seat on how this dish is prepared. It sat on the grill for 5 minutes undisturbed. I was going to say something, but then an alarm went off, but first nobody went there. I was just about to say something (i.e. "Hey, don't let my ribs burn"), but before I could, ANOTHER guy from back comes walking up really pissed. He was very unhappy, and treated those poor ribs very roughly. A large portion of the ribs ended up sticking to the grill, but he left it there and packaged the rest up and tossed it to the front and just left mumbling (it was obvious that he was doing somebody else's job). Then it just stayed there, until I said something: it took another request from me to yet another person, to fulfill my order, preparing the fries. The hot dog and hot beef had already been done before I even arrived,. The delay caused the other things on the order to get cold. What was really disturbing is the lack of coordination between the staff members and some open hostility between them, haven't really seen that at Portillo's before, but my wife informed me that my experience isn't atypical of that location (she has dined there a lot more than I have). Went via the drive through for lunch around 12pm and thankfully the wait time wasn't as bad as I'd expected. It went fairly quick. We ordered a chopped salad and a hot dog with everything. Both were good! I do appreciate them adding bread, butter and having 2 dressings included for the salad. Napkins were given which is always a plus. This will be a drive thru review. I went on a weekday so thankfully there were only 3 cars ahead of me. I ordered a double hot dog and cheese fries. Surprisingly, my order came pretty fast but the downside was that I had to wait for the other cars to get their order. They need to make a double lane so that when customers get their food they can go on about their day instead of having to wait for cars in front of them to get their order. Or they should have cars, park in a designated spot while they are waiting so cars can leave. It was all liquid. Portillo's use to give you very good value for the money but lately I have driven away very disappointed. Also their hamburgers which are very good quality tend to be burnt and dried out lately because they leave them cooking too long. Lastly they over salt their food. They could reach a wider audience if they put less salt in their food. People can always add salt at the table, include little salt packets for those that crave additional salt but many older Americans have high blood pressure and heart issues and thus on low sodium diets. We use to love Portillo's and eat there twice a week as well as give out Portillo's Christmas gift cards. No more. I am hoping the manager of this Portillo's wakes up and takes action, otherwise he/she will lose our business for good. read more

This was my first time at this Portillo's location, and I will likely not be back. The only problem I personally experienced was that my french fries were very cold. However, the employee working the expo line (handing out the orders) was so incredibly rude to a poor DoorDash driver... The order he was trying to pick up had clearly be stolen or mistakenly taken by another customer from the shelves, and instead of helping him solve the problem/ offering to remake the order/contact DoorDash she continuously barked/yelled at him that it "will not be coming". The restaurant was not busy at this time on the inside, only the drive thru had a line. Service at this location has been consistently awful. For example, two times I ordered pickup and watched tons of people order and get their food after mine was supposed to be ready. People in the drive thru come up to the car well before you can see a menu. There have been other issues as well. I keep telling myself to never come back here. What happened to this place? ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE experience. From the drive-thru to inside, an absolute cluster fuck. Too many people in the way, there's no organization. My order was called but when I picked up my food... they only gave me fries. I told them they forgot the rest of my order and started giving me the rest little by little. Finally the only thing I was waiting for was my Italian Beef and that took longer than it should have. At that point, the rest of my food was cold as fuck. So, we had to go out and pick up something and decided Portillo's was calling our name. Currently, all orders are pick up through the drive - thru (totally fine), the line was around the building, but I'm used to the Schaumburg location where they usually need police directly traffic at lunch. Everyone was nice (though it's not a great day weather wise, and CoVid sucks) so my standard are much lower (you can't tell if someone is smiling with a mask anyway). Props for all the people outside having facial PPE (though it's not helpful if it's not on your nose, kids). Also, they're mindful of the impact of the length of the line and having people wait for food in the parking lot across. Everyone is chill, much props for still working and being patient. I have liked the food but am now very dissapointed! I have an account and have ordered online. Twice I have gotten emails from Portillos indicating FREE delivery during a range of dates. Twice it is far from free! I ordered some items and realized the total was much higher. When looking furthur I realized they charge a hefty fee buried in the taxes and fees (convenience fee). They don't even display it - they hide it in the taxes and fee total which you can only see the breakdown by clicking a question mark next to the category. That fee is only there when they say they have "free" delivery. I don't know how a large company can do something like this. Seems they are greedy and using a bait and switch approach. The quarrel isn't with the food- I've only ever had Portillos once. The issue is with inadequate management. I try not to understand Daniel(?) management style.It has been proven not to work; in terms of team positivity, heightened guest experiences, and overall team/company moral- I imagine the turnover rate to be high; with the average 2/3 long term employees that 'deal' with his ranting. My partner ordered food from DoorDash- the manager wouldn't release our order to the DoorDash driver, after we paid for the order- literally--- only hot dogs and fries. I called the store and the manager, whose name I don't remember was completely inappropriate. This level of customer service would be more suitable at a county jail mess hall or a detention center. I decided that I would leave my job and uber to get the order, as the boss man hung up on me. When we arrived- Mel (who was the shining star), kept us company while the manager kept us waiting for a very long/extended period of time- he knew we were waiting but he decided to take a lower cynical stance. After keeping us waiting, he came over with a very disgruntled attitude and sour demeanor. I'm supposing this gentleman is the General Manager. I advised him that DoorDash- as Doordash had already called the restaurant- told us, the order was confirmed by the restaurant. He offered no customer care nor support. Personally, I prefer to be solution oriented. After traveling 30 minutes to finally get my food- this member of management was more concerned with being 'right' and completely rude/gross than offering a good customer experience. He was frantic; and obviously from the way he was acting and treating us; he knew he was in the wrong, as well as the employees. Fundamentally the worst public management model I have encountered to this day- my career was in the restaurant industry (Michelin Star dining- Chef and Management). While having an 'off day' is understandable; what I don't understand is the employees that were able to show understanding to our situation- and someone hired as a member of management wasn't. read more

Covid 19 safety alert! Tonight we ate dinner inside the restaurant where masks were required. It was posted on the door and all the employees were wearing masks. We did witness 3 patrons enter without masks though, they made their way to the front counter and ordered there food...still no masks and no employee had enforced the mask requirement. Our safety was in jeopardy as were the other patrons. I then watched one of the maskless order a beer at the counter.. still no mask. The manager served her the beer... still no mask. Portillo employees failed to enforce their mask requirements three times. Once as the patrons entered the front door, second at the register, and third at the beer counter. Shame on Portillo management for not taking the pandemic and the safety of the other patrons seriously. I ordered 1lb of beef and bread (not rolls) I have been going there for ever it has changed since the new owners have taken over. The beef had no flavor which is very odd and it was sliced with the grain so it was tough and chewey. I always got the same bread as their restaurant served but now when you order beef they give you rolls which are to thick and they fall apart when you add gravely etc.. I am so disappointed with the changes and would not recommend you buy the bread from them and hopefully you beef will have more flavor. read more
