For our appetizers, we ordered the cheese curds and the loaded tater tots. The cheese curds had a beautifully golden, crispy breading, though they were a bit bland on their own. Thankfully, the creamy, slightly spicy dipping sauce added the flavor they needed and made them much more enjoyable. The loaded tater tots were tasty, but I was hoping for a bit more. They didn't feel as "loaded" as the name suggests, I would have loved to see them covered with more cheese and toppings. For my entrée, I ordered the burger, and it was easily the highlight of the meal. Every bite was delicious. The beef patty was cooked perfectly, while the crispy bacon and fried onions added great texture and flavor. Even though this place is advertised as craft beer, don't let it fool you they make amazing cocktails as well!!! Their Happy Hour is the best in the area! You can get a delicious craft strong espresso martini for $7!!! Their Happy Hour food is 1/2 off appetizers as well!!! I always sit at the bar, and all the bartenders are great!!! First time checking out this newer location in the Tangled Roots family. I came in with a group of 4 other friends and we were thoroughly impressed with the menu options. We ordered a variety of appetizers and martinis. Each was delicious and very worthy of a return visit. Since coming in last month, I have definitely tried to inform others via word of mouth and loved to see an excellent happy hour option in the Arboretum. Happy Hour Review! Tangled Roots South Barrington has finally introduced their killer happy hour deals! How can one go wrong with $5 martinis, $4 beers, $3 wines, & 1/2 off appetizers! I visited with a group of five and was thoroughly impressed by everything they offered. You could not go wrong with a martini selection but my favorites were the New French Martini, Espresso Martini, and Naked & Almost Famous Martini. For bites, we explored quite a bit of the menu. My favorites were the Cauliflower Florets, Cheese Curds, & Loaded Tater Tots. The Drunken Wings also looked delicious but I didn't try any. The Arboretum was in need of more happy hour options and this is the perfect add! Service was a bit slow at the bar at times so I recommend counting on that when maximizing your time. Our server, Jose, did a great job on checking in on us, bring food out fresh, bringing our drinks as they were made, and making sure we didn't want anything more. This is an airy, modern restaurant that caters to the shoppers in this upscale center. While the menu has proprietary beers, they aren't brewed on site and this is not a sports bar. The menu features a wide variety of items suitable for lunch, which is what our group had on the two visits so far. Unfortunately for those who have been here for lunch before they have just discontinued their lunch menu which offered several of the regular menu items at especially attractive pricing. Now it's the same all day long. Service is especially good, which compensates somewhat for the slightly expensive menu items. This spot seems to be a hot commodity for post work outings and that's exactly why I was here. A group of 6 of us stopped in on a weekday evening and I really enjoyed it. What I do remember is it was light, crisp and had citrus notes to it. For food I ordered the TR burger, cooked medium, and had tater tots as my side. It was pretty busy on a Friday night. We did have reservations, so we didn't have to wait. We had shared the Mozza Bella, which is a large square size of fresh mozzarella that is lightly breaded. The vodka sauce was on the bottom and there was plenty of sauce to have with every bite. I had the fish and chips (fries) with cole slaw. The fish was very light and cooked perfectly. The outside is beer battered and inside the Fish would fall apart really easily. The fries were delicious and came with a small cup of ketchup. I usually like to have pepper, but they didn't have salt and pepper on the table. The cole slaw had a few slices of red pepper, which all i could taste was the red pepper. Also, my friend had ordered an impossible BBQ burger and asked for no bacon, but the burger came out with bacon. She just picked it off. The manager did came by to apologize. read more

A nice option in South Barrington. Came here after visiting Goebberts down the road. I did not try any of the beers, just came for food this round. My kids got the kids buttered noodles and the chicken strips meals which I tasted both, the noodles were fine but the chicken tenders were weird, very breaded, almost dark, burnt looking pieces and honesntly didn't taste that great, my daughter didn't like it. I had the chicken club, although it was messy, it was a decent sandwich and the fries were good. The place is very nice and clean inside and the service was great. I am so excited Tangled Roots opened a location in the Arboretum of South Barrington. This space once held a French restaurant and then a breakfast/brunch spot. I had a fantastic first experience with friends. We did not have a reservation but we were seated immediately. I'm guessing you will definitely want to call ahead on a weekend night. Our server Juan was friendly and funny, and highlighted some options on the menu for us. I had a light, crisp apple hard cider and the citrus hummus with veggies and pita to start. For my meal, the beer can chicken salad. It was so fresh, flavor-filled and a large enough portion for two people. (Leftovers for lunch today. Yum)! Inside the restaurant is bright and relaxing with a lot of neutral tones. There are round half-moon shaped booths for seating. I look forward to warmer months when Tangled Roots can likely use the outside area in the cute little corner of the Arb. I was looking forward to trying Tangled Roots location, but was a bit disappointed. I had read reviews regarding wait times, so I tried to secure a reservation on line, but the first available was in 2 hours, but we decided to try walking in. When we arrived the restaurant was more than half empty! Melissa was our server and was attentive and very friendly. My husband tried a Banana beer and enjoyed it. We started with the Boneless Cauliflower appetizer. It was very good, cauliflower sitting on top of a slaw with a spicy honey sauce. The cauliflower was cooked , so it was crunchy on the outside, but soft inside. It was very good, but the amount we received was not worth $16! We each had the tacos, I had the fish and my husband had the care asada. Each consisted of 3 taco, with a variety of slaws and aioli. The fish taco was small pieces of fish, which lacked flavor or texture. Each came with a side. I had the asparagus, which was excellent. When we received our check, I noticed we were charged extra for the asparagus even though a side was included. When I acquired, Melissa, shared some sides included an upcharge, but since she failed to let us know , she immediately said she would remove the charge, since we were not informed. Very nice service recovery. The aesthetics are nice, but remind me of the former brunch restaurant, and prices are high. The tacos were between$18-$20. Beers are good! read more

We loved Tangled Roots! My husband and I tried the citrus thyme hummus, which was a really thick homemade which was just ok but made more special by the olive tapenade it came with. I had the pulled pork grilled cheese which was yummy, served with a cup of tomato bisque, which was good, but to be fair, I'm kind of a snob when it comes to home I like my tomato soup. My husband had the Halfway to Nashville chicken sandwich which he thought was delicious. The real star of the show was the old fashioned he had-which he said was awesome. Never thought I would love a brewery, but oh my gosh I do!!! Chef Angie & cook Nucci seriously know how to put together a menu holy cow. The cauliflower is amazing but I for the first time in forever I had an amazing wagu cheese cheeseburger and wow - it blew me away! We sit at the bar most days and we get Morgan and Courtney as our servers-both at the bar and sometimes even in the dining area. They are wonderful. They go above and beyond. There's also another amazing server that I cannot remember her name and I'm so sorry she has blonde hair. She was so wonderful with my grandkids. Everyone here is this place really is not at all what I expected in the best way possible Steve is the manager that we have dealt with and boy does he know his stuff. I can honestly say this man will do anything to keep his customers happy - we know that firsthand. We try to go here at least once a month. I wish I could go more, but I highly recommend it we have met so many really fun people just sitting at tables or sitting at the bar. It just is a great place with really good vibes. read more

I've enjoyed Tangled Roots in Ottawa and Vernon Hills, so I expected the same here in South Barrington. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had anywhere. The Service: * Our order, including an allergy note, was never sent to the kitchen. When I asked about it, the server didn't believe we had ordered until I told him to check his order pad -- and he looked shocked to find it written down. * We were told Fish and Chips doesn't come with fries. (Not sure what "chips" are supposed to mean then.) * an extra order of fries we never ordered showed up, covered in the allergen I flagged. * We were given food and even a beer that weren't ours. * After nearly two hours of mix-ups, our meals finally arrived. Another table actually got up and left before their food ever came, which says a lot. The Allergy Issue: Serving food covered in the allergen I specifically mentioned is more than careless -- it's unsafe. The Management: Management did comp the food, but not the beers. After everything that went wrong, that gesture felt half-hearted at best. The Patio: To be fair, the patio itself was pleasant -- a nice space to sit. Unfortunately, no atmosphere can make up for service this poor. Bottom Line: I know Tangled Roots can do better -- I've seen it at other locations. But South Barrington has serious issues with training, service, and allergy safety. Until they fix them, I can't recommend this location. read more

Both times I was there when it opened and there weren't too many people there, so I'm not sure why it was so slow. The music is also WAY too loud. I have written a complaint also to corporate about my horrible experience i had in Barrington on Thursday April 30th. I waited 45 minutes for my dinner at bar which wasn't even busy! The dining room ppl were getting their food before I was as I watched. I had asked for my burgers well done and they came out rare and cold! Fries also were cold. Steve was the manager and he was extremely rude and unprofessional and didn't handle my issues at all but the thing was he expected me to eat something that wasn't even made correctly! I just don't understand why I wasn't treated like a customer who was at the bar and the bartender even said she didn't know why kitchen wasn't following instructions on my order! But steve the manager on duty didn't even acknowledge anything till 45 minutes later then bringing me cold food! I'll never be back their again i can promise you that! read more

Thyme hummus was outstanding. And everything in that bowl was great. Will definitely return for that. I was really excited about the opening of this restaurant but the food and the service missed the mark for me. My family and I waited a little under 30 minutes for a table which was expected, as they were very busy. We were seated at a table in a spacious room with tables, half booths and a tv playing sports. Our server arrived to the table fairly quickly and was pretty friendly. For starters we ordered the Aunt Bee's biscuits and Drunken wings with Carolina bbq sauce. The biscuits were soft and came with a maple cinnamon butter and a strawberry butter that was delicious and not too sweet. The Carolina bbq wings had a mustard flavor that we didn't expect but it wasn't bad. I also ordered a spirit free Sangria that was flavorful and garnished well with blackberries. After we finished our appetizers we ordered the chicken club, halfway to nashville (grilled) and the bbq brewmaster burger for entrees. Here is where the service and food took a turn. We waited for over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. No one really came to our table to update us on the status of our order. When the food finally did come out all of our fries that came with our meals were hard and cold. We were able to flag someone down and they brought out fries that were hot and fresh, which was great, but they tasted pretty bland. The sandwiches were hot and the buns were soft and buttery but the chicken on the halfway to nashville was just ok and could've used more seasoning. My family felt the same about the burger and the chicken club. During our meal and after we finished we barely saw our server. It was so bad that my family joked with a couple sitting across from us (who had the same server) about the long wait. Both parties were ready for the bill and it seemed like he had disappeared to another area of the restaurant. After a long wait he finally returned and we paid and left. I understand that the restaurant is new and they have a few kinks to work out but I was not impressed. I would come here again but only for a drink! read more

Their Oktoberfest beer is really good. My group tried several different things. We all, especially the kids, love the pretzel appetizer. I thought the fish tacos dinner was delicious as well. Only negative was how long we had to wait for our dinner, but the server did apologize and they did get hit all at once on a Saturday night. It was an hour wait though for our dinner so that was tough with kids. We will come back though. Atmosphere, drinks, and food are all really good. The manager walked around and gave the kids stickers too which was a nice touch. I would recommend giving this place a shot. Honestly- I love this place. I feel like their menu could be expanded, but I've been here twice, and everything I've tried has been fantastic! I'm not a beer drinker, but they have a full bar, and I love their specialty cocktails. Also, their service is so great, and they have been more than accommodating. We had a large birthday party and no where else in the area would accommodate us without crating an "event" and prepaying, etc... but they accommodated us, and the service was exceptional.
