I came back here for another party. I did have some different foods. Once again, the service was top-notch and friendly. We were served bruschetta first. I had this on a prior visit, and it was better. The bread was too soft and did not hold up well with the actual bruschetta, which was tasty once again, tons of freshness. The antipasto had fresh meats and cheeses, which were appetizing. I also tried the clams, mussels, stuffed mushrooms, and calamari. The clams and mussels appeared fresh and were pleasant while the stuffed mushrooms were small but packed with flavor. I am not usually a fan of them, but I really enjoyed these. The calamari was solid too, nice breading to fish ratio on most of them. The second course was penne vodka (similar thoughts from prior review apply). The next course was the house salad, which was better than I remember. For my main course this time, I had the salmon in a white wine garlic sauce with some vegetables. The salmon was a good-sized portion with plenty of the sauce. The sauce was a good balance and paired well with the appropriately sized salmon. For dessert, there was a white cake with a strawberry filling. They provided the cake, but not sure where it came from. It was not bad. The cake and strawberry filling was good, but the frosting as well as the icing was too sweet and had too thick of a layer. read more

I was there on an invite by a fantastic friend. The place was in far flung Jefferson Township. Never been there but the drive was pleasant on a weekend, getting there was a winding vista of woods and lake then the clearing... Portofino. There is ample parking and it was packed that afternoon. I was met by the friendliest staff. One in particular was wearing a chef's uniform who was dashingly handsome. The entire place's ambiance is classy, warm and cozy, busy with locals who knows each other Riesling was good. The Bruschetta was delicately flavored and fresh. I'm not usually crazy with it but this has been the best I've ever tasted...so far. Lobster ravioli was phenomenal. Nuanced flavor (definitely not store bought) perfectly balanced ingredients that meld in to one delectable tasting meal. The pièce de résistance was dessert- Almond cake. Light as air. Not too sweet, just heavenly cloud like consistency that melts in your mouth. I'm definitely going back and take that 50mile drive over again. Oh yeah! A friend recommended we eat here. We chose a summer Saturday at 6:30. I was nervous about them not taking reservations, but we were seated right away. We enjoyed the fried calamari and tortellini soup for an appetizer. Complimentary bread and bruschetta were delivered to the table...delicious! I had chicken saltimbocca and my friend had the veal version, excellent. But we did ask for it over pasta. Salads come with entrees. My husband had some other veal dish and my friends husband enjoyed chicken franchise. All entrees were hot and tasty. For dessert, my friend had the coconut cake and said it was amazing. Bill after tip was $230 ($115 a couple...super reasonable). Only complaint was the dining room was LOUD. It was hard to hear the conversation at the table. I'd like to sit outside next time. THE ABSOLUTE WORST. My wife and I stopped going there 3 or 4 years ago due to the specials never changing, the need to BYOB and the renovated tile floor making the main dining area incredibly loud. When one of our go-to's (Bella Vista) was closed due to vacation we decided to give it another shot. We stopped by the local liquor store, picked up a bottle of red and hoped for the best. 30 seconds in we were seated next to a table with the most entitled, obnoxious, 5x louder than is appropriate in a restaurant setting asshole you could ever imagine. Incessant political nonsense and I dont really care what side of the aisle you are on I dont need to hear that shit when attempting to have a peaceful night out with my wife. When we asked to be moved to the farthest away table, we were told no (because it was a 4 top and we were a party of two). It was only after I complained to the hostess when she asked how we were doing and mentioned that I will have a conversation with Mendi and Timmy that we could have any table we wanted. Bottom line - fuck this place, we are never going back. If there were 0 stars that would be my rating. read more

Came to Portofino for an event and enjoyed it. The chicken francese and salmon were cooked nicely. The sauce on the francese had the right balance of creaminess and lemony flavor. The calamari was served hot with a nice mild marinara. The eggplant rollatini were ok. I have had better. The antipasto was a big portion and filling if you only eat that. The bread with bruschetta was unique. The bread had some spices on it and toasted nicely. This place is out there in the woods but seemed pretty busy. People know about it and I know why. Another great dining experience. We had a small birthday party with 11 diners. Nancy was so accommodating. She provided a large tub of ice for our wine and beer since Portofino is a BYOB. She also, served two large platters of salad (which was delicious) on the house. Warm bread and bruschetta was an added plus. Appetizers were tasty with enough portion size to be shared. Here for the first time for Father's Day dinner with Marissa and Andrew. We were greeted seated promptly when we arrived. Inside is decorated nicely but to me to many tables that are just to close. Fried calamari was tender and flavorful. I had a special which was a seafood pasta with a brown sauce. Very good. Marissa had chicken Marsala and Andrew had rigatoni with chicken. This is another amazing Italian restaurant in Northern NJ. This place is a little more upscale, but is super cozy and BYOB. The fried calamari was very crisp and tender and a decent portion. I had the rigatoni a la anthony for my entree and it did not disappoint. The sauce was super rich and had a great variety of meat in the dish. Pasta was cooked al dente and the service is awesome. I think the word MARVELOUS pretty much sums things up at this restaurant. When I think that it doesn't get better than this, it actually does. I have some go to meals from their regular menu that I really enjoy but their specials are so enticing and I'm always up to trying something new. So we ordered our fave, fried calamari appetizer for two and for the main I went with one of the specials. The fillet of Dover Sole in a garlic sauce. The waiter brings the fillet to the table and proceeds to de-bone the fish for me, then takes it back to the kitchen and brings it back with all the extras the dish comes with. Was I impressed, you bet I was. My wife went off the menu and ordered the Veal Portofino. Both her meal and mine were delicious as always. We even made room for dessert, coconut layer cake for me and a hazelnut cup for my wife. A couple of coffees and we called it a night. Even had leftovers for tomorrow. I recently came here with my family to celebrate my grandma's birthday. We reserved a table in advance for a Sunday afternoon. This place had plenty of parking spots. Once everyone arrived, we all ordered a bunch of different appetizers for the table for everyone to share. We went with what looked like the most popular ones. The fried calamari, hot antipasto platter, and bruschetta. Everything was great here. We all got to try a little bit of each platter. The calamari was the best of these choices. Also, this place is BYOB, so we all were drinking wines to go with our meals. After waiting for some time, everyone ordered their dinners. My girlfriend and I went with the Chicken Rollatini and the Broiled Scottish Salmon Florentine. I really enjoyed my chicken plate here. My plate was a beast of chicken stuffed with prosciutto, cheese, and carrots in marsala sauce. This was amazing and so delicious. The salmon was pretty damn good as well, since i tried some of my girlfriends' dish. Overall, we enjoyed the food and service here. No issues and this place was definitely worth it. read more

Very good food, excellent service, horrendous noise. we have been there many times over the years. In the past three times we have been there, all patrons are seated in the large open front room. The noise is stifling. We found it impossible to hear or carry on a conversation. In prior visits we were seated in a back room or during the Covid in an outdoor tent. We don't know if is for some business purpose but what was a great restaurant is ruined by the noise. read more

Very nice BYO Italian restaurant with a very large parking lot & outdoor covered dining. There are 2 rooms inside with a dated interior. It's VERY noisy inside. However, who's really looking at the walls anyway? A large bread basket arrives as well as some toasted bread w/bruscetta - nice touch. Our table was very crowded with a lot of un-necessary things on it like a sugar bowl which I promptly moved off the table, an oil candle that was never lit, & a bowl of parm cheese (was that on the table from the last people who sat there??). We enjoyed the clams - excellent broth, I had rigatoni vodka w/shrimp & peas & my husband had veal saltimbocca - both entree's were excellent. The veggie on my husband's plate was sautéed spinach - very nice. Desserts are all homemade & we loved the tiramisu & creme brûlée w/toasted almonds. Overpriced. We started with fried calamari. It was not hot. It tasted like Just plain old, run of the mill calamari. My main course, veal saltimbocca. The smallest portion of veal saltimbocca I've ever had. And, at $28.00, the most expensive. My girlfriend had rigatoni ala vodka with chicken. $28.00 - overpriced. It tasted okay. The strategy of this place is to bring out free bread with butter to give you the illusion of large portions. BYOB is about the best part of this place.
