It was a cold evening which may have kept people away, but we came and enjoyed a lovely meal with our dear friend. Drinks included an orange blossom martini, aperol spritz and house wine. Our friend is a vegan who frequents the restaurant often. He got sautéd spinach w/ marinara and potatoes. I got the sole franchise. The sauce was a little on the thin side, but very tasty and huge portions. I will have one for lunch tomorrow. Hubby ordered sole oregonata. Seeing as how he didn't offer any or leave any behind, it was delicious. All dinners came with salads and we got the potatoes and sautéed yellow squash. We sat for a while and I ended up with the coconut cake because it looked yummy (it was) and our friend for an espresso and raspberry sorbet. The place is a gem in Dover.The food was very good. Appetizers were the house nacho's and Clams casino, both good. I had the ravioli special, my don the sausage and pepper pizziola and my wife the eggplant. Portions were large and well made. For dessert my son hs the lava cake and I had the carrot cake WHICH WAS OUTSTANDING! One of the best I've ever eaten, both homemade. Service was friendly and efficient. Walking into this place is like going back in time to the 80's. The whole place could use a face lift but that is what makes it endearing. The bar dining area is very cozy, perfect for couples. The main dining room is large and can handle large parties. I only have two negative observations, first they are an Italian restaurant but don't serve cappuccino, second their wine selection is limited and frankly not very impressive. Charlotte's Web in Dover, NJ is our go to place for a delicious, reasonably priced Italian meal in a very comfortable setting with a friendly atmosphere. There is a cozy, pub-like setting in the room with the bar, and a dining area perfect for couples or groups. The owners, Sal and Charlotte, greet us each week and are very proud of the quality of the food they serve. They also serve fantastic drinks from the bar and offer wonderful desserts. Most meals are so large, many guests leave with leftovers. My favorite entrees are the eggplant or shrimp parmigiana with spaghetti, but they have many seafood, chicken and veal options and weekly specials. Every meal includes a delicious salad and Italian sliced bread. There is a parking lot and ample street parking. Believe me, you'll be happy you tried it! read more

Nice old school traditional type of restaurant that is very comfortable & casual inside with a wonderful Italian menu! This place has been open for decades & you can tell as you enter it. The wait staff has worked there for many years & know the menu well & are great at making recommendations. We started with the garlic shrimp & escargot - wow - the sauces they came with were amazing! The crusty bread was a perfect accompaniment to the apps - my husband devoured both our pieces! Loved everything! Started with the clams casino and the fried green tomatoes. Asked for some ranch on the side for the tomatoes. Both were amazing and their ranch is insane! House Italian salads were good as well as the bread. Entrees were the chicken cordon Bleu, chicken scarpariello, carlo's country chicken, and the penne vodka. All were amazing but there is a reason they underline that the penne vodka is a cream sauce, as the tomatoes are chopped and added in and not a base of the sauce - so not what you would traditionally expect from a vodka sauce. I still have been going to Charlotte's for years and it has yet to disappoint. The service, food and ambiance is impeccable. The menu has changed slightly over the years (which is to be expected), but the chicken savoy is the best I have ever had. The purple chicken (which is on the special menu, occasionally) is also out of this world. Highly recommended to anyone looking for excellent Italian food in morris county. In fact, I might head down for a take out order during Covid-19 in order to support this wonderful establishment (and satisfy my urge for that delicious savoy). read more

We've been going to Charlotte's Web pretty consistently for over a year now, and can't believe I've never reviewed! Let's right that wrong now. First off, I must say that the excellent food aside, it's the family and their servers that are the true gem of this establishment. We love seeing "the girls" (and Sal, of course) on a Friday night. They make you feel so welcomed after a long work week, you can't help but smile just thinking about them. True story: one night last winter we were late coming home from a trip. The weather wasn't great and we called to tell them we were going to be late. No problem, was the response. When we called again to say we would be later, they said they would wait for us. I asked if it were busy (get ready) they told us the restaurant was empty and they were there just for us! Seriously, I felt SO bad they were waiting. We told them to please so home, we would see them next week. Yes, they are THAT nice. As for food, I have never had a dish I wasn't totally pleased with. I usually order the cordon bleu, pork chop savoy, eggplant parm.... it's all so good. Dinner comes with a salad and a side of either potato of the day and veggies, or a side of pasta. Honestly, anything you choose will be delicious and plentiful. They have many specials, but the real gems are the ones prepared by Charlotte herself (usually a Sunday dinner special). These are not to be missed. Stephanie's husband, Mic makes amazing deserts and can be found occasionally behind the bar. Please visit Charlotte's Web if you've never been, and if you have in the past, but may have forgotten about them, please stop by for a great meal. I enjoyed my chicken sandwich but my mother had an interesting incident with a scrod special...she didn't know that cherry peppers are spicy and ordered the dish. When she found out it was very spicy after her first bite, she notified the waitress and the waitress was quite condescending to my mom (even pulling out the menu and reading it to her - didn't you know it's spicy? It says cherry peppers right here). She was quite prickly about changing the dish. I mean, isn't the customer always right? Otherwise not too bad! I've had Charlotte's Web bookmarked for a long time. Last night, my wife and I finally had an opportunity to dine there. We both thought the food was excellent. We shared a stuffed mushroom appetizer, then my wife had the crab cakes and I had veal Oscar as entrees. The entrees also came with a salad. There was plenty of food and it was delicious. The only real negative for me was where we were sitting. It was a room all the way in the back and we were alone there through most of the meal. It wasn't terrible, but we really couldn't get a good feel for the restaurant. All in all, it was a pleasant dinner. Food was good, service was friendly, easy parking. If you're in Dover, looking for a nice Italian restaurant, it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Went to Charlottes Web for the first time tonight. The staff were very warm and friendly. My husband started with a Cold Brew Martini, which he wants to try to replicate at home. I'm extremely impressed with the fried green tomato appetizer and the dinner salad. They go the extra distance to get the tomatoes from a local farmer. And the salad had 2 different kinds of lettuce! Their homemade Italian dressing couldn't have been better. I went old school and had Fetticini Alfredo. The pasta had the right amount of "chew" and the flavor was spot on. My husband had the peasant pasta. My mom had the veal Charlottes web, kind of a mashup of veal and eggplant Parmesan. The sausage in the peasant pasta really made the dish. And my mom sure enjoyed her dish as well. We all needed containers to take home leftovers. A group of co-workers and I visited on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch since we were in the area. One of my co-workers had been here several times and had family events catered by them. It's a very quaint, charming, and rustic restaurant and bar. We began with the zippy chicken wings. Delicious. Fried but not greasy and they had a nice little zing to it. Our table ordered the chicken scampi, hot corned beef sandwich, a cheeseburger with sautéed mushrooms, and a cobb salad. The portions were huge. It was probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in several years. Cooked to perfection and juicy. It held up well in the bun. I'll emphasize again that the burger was gigantic. The fries were a bit on the old side and greasy. The chicken scampi was a big hit. Two big pieces of chicken over a bed of spaghetti. The plate went back empty. The amount of corned beef in that sandwich should have been illegal. However, he ate all of it. No room for dessert but I did take home two pieces of carrot cake for my wife and I later that evening. The carrot cake was excellent and it had the cream cheese frosting which is a must for me. The service was excellent and very warm. The prices for lunch were very reasonable considering the quality and portion we received. This was a great find for me and I know why my co-worker keeps coming back. read more

My dinner guest called to make a reservation for a Saturday in a booth at 5:00. The lady that answered the phone was quite rude and said that she didn't know if we could get a booth as parties of 16 and nine were coming in and said we may have to take a table. When we arrived we were seated in a booth. Our waitress was wonderful, but the food was just okay. Our salad consisted of a small amount of bagged lettuce, 4 croutons and salad dressing in a plastic take out container, the kind from Burger King. We were also served slices of bread, but the outer crust was very hard and not eatable. Our main course consisted of fish and a pasta entree with vegetable sides. The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly just a little heavy on the sauce. For dessert we had Tofutti and carrot cake which was on the dry side. The time from finishing our dinner and obtaining our dessert was more then 20 minutes and were refused a second cup of coffee and were told that "our time was up and we had to leave". A lady came over to our table and said you have to leave you have been here long enough! We would have been finished sooner had we were waited on in a timely manner, but the waitress was vey busy, and left us sitting for a long time after we finished out meal. On the way out I found out that the rude lady demanding we leave was the owners daughter, who thoroughly embarrassed us in font of the other patrons. Would we go back again..NO. I do hope our waitress received the tip we left as the other lady picked it up. read more

I attended a bridal shower here today at Charlotte's Web......This restaurant is cute..sort of a farmhouse in the country feel to it......cute kitchen curtains, a fake "spider web" in the corner (Charlotte), pictures from the Charlotte's Web book on the wall......little dark wood tables here and there...... And the food? Excellent! I had for appetizers: clams casino (couldn't stop eating them), regular stuffed clams, a sort of toast with mozzarella inside and breaded zucchini with a homemade tomato sauce....(on the side). My entrée was chicken parm (thin slices nicely breaded and flavored), green beans (perfect, not too mushy but nicely seasoned and not too seedy or anything), mashed potatoes and a garlicy penne with sauce....... The help was very kind, very accommodating.......no complaints..... All in all where to go for good Italian food and also pot roast is the specialty here ...also the salmon is very good (comments I heard from my neighbors)...... read more

I asked for potatoes and vegetables for my sides with my entree and got 4 pieces of soggy wedge potatoes and bowl filled with only peas.literally just cold peas. Plus there was hair on my entree. I have to say that this is possibly one of the greatest Mom and Pop places that I have ever been! I was here for work for 3 weeks and happened to come across this quaint little Inn. The owner Sal, and his family run the place, and they make it a point to make everyone feel welcome. The food is exquisite, and the people are so great. This quickly became my favorite place to eat, and drink. It is easy to see why the locals spend so much time at Charlotte's Web, it's like "Cheers" everybody knows your name. For 36 years this place has been around, and you can find Billy sitting in his favorite spot a few days a week. As a side note, if you meet Sal, ask for the Cannoli filled cream puffs... delicious. During this time(a long time), we have NEVER experienced a meal that was not satisfying and DEILICIOUS!! I want to go back......now. Actually, I wanted to start my dinner over again as soon as I finished. I could not see much of the decor as I arrived at night and it was almost as dark inside as it was outside. Parking is an issue though, as the lot they have at the end of a dead end street is very small. The feeling inside is that of an old-time pub. Dark, thick, rough wooden tables, and brass...brass...brass. We had nachos and spicy wings as the appetizers. They were both very good and we began to wonder if the dinner was going to exceed our expectations. Yup.....it did. I had the seafood fra diavolo, and it was BEYOND good. The calamari was perfectly done and obviously fresh, as was all the other seafood in the dish. And they did not skimp on the seafood portions. What did my friends have? I honestly can't remember, as I was fully enthralled by my own dish. I can tell you that most of us finished our meals in silence, paying proper homage to the food. Yeah....it's that good. read more

Wow wow wow! I came here with my family for my fathers birthday. Every entree we got was absolutely fantastic. Is this the fanciest place? No. Does the atmosphere leave something to be desired? Yes But the FOOD!!! I got the chicken cordon bleu and it was so delicious. The chicken was seasoned but not overwhelming and deliciously paired with a buttery lemon sauce. The only issue I had is that it came with angel hair pasta, and I am not a fan. We got a Cesar salad to share to start as well as fried calamari. Both were very good but not life changing. My brother got the chicken savor, which WAS life changing. Everyone at the table tried it and we were all in awe of how delicious it was. Each meal is cooked to order so the food was fresh and delicious. My father got the chicken parm, which was delicious and a perfect classic. They were serving that night a side of green beans with marinara which was strange to me, but pretty good. It could have used some garlic. I'd never been to this cute little restaurant before, but really enjoyed myself during a bridal shower. The restaurant is comprised of two decent-sized rooms, each with a different type of decor (an old house was converted into the restaurant, so basically you're eating in the dining room and living room of this house). The service was really great, and the food was delicious. I had the Caesar salad and breadsticks, and then penne with vodka sauce (SO good), cavatelli (my favorite pasta), and an interesting chicken dish that I didn't really enjoy as the chicken was stuffed with spinach. If I could give 1/2 a star, I would. We made reservations for Valentine's day as this had been our go-to "special occaission" restaurant for years. The owner "greeted" us, not with a hello, or a smile but a curt, "do you have a reservation?" She seemed annoyed and we were sat by a door...it was so cold by this door ( which leads to the main entrance). This was disturbing as there were open seatings further into the room that remained open for our entire meal. We had to ask for bread while everyone around us received multiple portions. We had to ask the waitress to refill our water glasses twice. We ordered an appetizer with a hot, spicy sauce: we got a mild one. The waitress did not return so we ate it. When we pointed out the error- she argued that we could not possibly have had a mild sauce. The meal was ok but the same meal at Charlotte's used to be outstanding and less money. We paid our bill in cash and the waitress asked if we wanted our change... Save yourself money and aggravation, you'll be better off at a diner. We are now former customers. read more

This past Saturday, I realized I've been going to Charlotte's Web for almost 15 years, and have taken for granted many of the great meals I've eaten here. More than the food, which has always been delicious, there is something comfortable about the joint. You can always expect to see Charlotte by the front door and Sal walking around (the owners), making you feel like they've invited you in for a weeknight dinner.
