Cute little Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. We made a reservation and were seated and serviced quickly. The server took our drink order and we soon had most delicious fresh bread and rice balls (complementary) on our table. I had the eggplant Parmesan, my husband had the gnocchi and my son had chicken Parmesan. All 3 were very good and this Italian family is hard to please. Came here for the first time for my best friends baby shower, although the space is small it adds to the endearing homey vibe you want from a restaurant. Service was top notch from the beginning to the end. Food was served family style for this private event which allowed everyone to try a little bit of everything. For entrees we were given the option of a fish, chicken and meat dish (not pictured veal rollatini) everyone also got an option of a pasta dish. The place has a nice ambience. The did was decent. Most importantly they named a part of 25 ordering from the menu without issue. It was a great experience. Very friendly, very accommodating and excellent service. The service went above and beyond. To be fair due to the nature of the event, the fit was the last thing on our mind. I have been going to this restaurant since they moved to 86th Street. The owners are nice, very accommodating, and the food is great. The menu is constantly evolving, and there is musical entertainment with their frequent singer who has become a good friend of ours. I highly recommend this restaurant. This gem is apparently a transplant of a prior location, but carries with it a series of traditions and recipes that delighted the taste buds of our group of 10. The service was attentive and answered questions about the cuisine, guiding us across a series of Italian classics and family-owned recipes. The food was amazing. Our table had a splash of assorted classics, from a massive, juicy Chicken Parm to flavorful Salmon to succulent pork chops with spicy peppers in brown sauce (pictured). Our entire party loved our meal and the entire experience was hugely positive. On Saturday night there was also live music, which set a fantastic backdrop for our dining experience (without being too loud - just right). Everything was perfect. The food was very flavorful and the portions were kind. We were serenaded and catered to like we were the only people seated. We weren't, the place was hopping and everyone was having a wonderful time. The atmosphere was amazing, we were very comfortable with the seating arrangements. It's on rare occasions that I will take the time to leave a review. After having dinner with my family last night at Tomasso, I feel obligated to share my experience. Let me just dive right in and tell you that my dinner was plain disgusting! I ordered a simple main course of Pasta Pesto, a dish that is simple to prepare and almost impossible to screw up. First, my dinner arrived lukewarm in a restaurant that was half empty at the time. The pesto sauce was poured over the pasta with no regard for its presentation, neatness, or the appropriate amount. It was as if someone opened up a Carvel machine and splattered Pesto sauce all over my pasta. That's how much was on my plate. The Pesto had no flavor to it whatsoever. No garlic, no sharp Romano cheese, no salt, no pepper. Just a ton of pesto drenched in cheap oil (not olive). When I took a forkful of spaghetti, the oil would drip off the pasta and pool at the bottom of my bowl. The grated cheese, which was on the table, was flavorless and most likely purchased in bulk at Cosco or BJ's. How any restaurant would serve such a disgusting dish to its customers is beyond my comprehension. My suggestion would be to cook at home or find another place to eat because I don't believe you will have a good experience here. And try not to acknowledge all the 5-star reviews. Went yesterday with my husband I was extremely disappointed the sauce was horrible it was a brown and the meatballs were horrible as well you can tell they are not homemade didn't even taste like meat. Tasted like them came frozen from costco or BJ's. I was born and raised in Brooklyn in Italian household this was not good Italian food . I have lived a few blocks from Tommaso for a long time but never ventured in and with my co-worker and I going on a restaurant tour of ny we decided to put it on the list and im glad i did. Charming decor and very attentive service . For starters I went with my stand by Baked Clams and these were a great version. The breadcrumbs were toasted perfectly and the clams were plump and juicy and not at all chewy. For my main I got Italian sausage and broccolirabe. The sausages were good but just a bit dry and the Rabe was also good. Not tough as it sometimes can be and very garlicky. My co-worker got Chicken Parmigiana and I tried some and it was a very good version of this Italian American standard. The breading was light and the sauce was quite good. Finished it off with a solid Cappucino and my childhood fave Tortoni. We left saying yeah this place will now be on our return list. read more

Came here with my mom, cousin and aunt. We each ordered the from the prefixe menu which was totally worth it and filling! We even got small rice balls and a garlic onion bread on the house! The food was delicious! I had pasta, filet francese and ice cream. The bread came out warm as an appetizer. There weren't many people at the restaurant, the service was good. My wife and I went to Tommaso's with a large group recently. We ordered apps for the table, so we wound up sampling a bunch of different items and all were great. Cheeses and meats were super fresh, fish dishes were delicious and also incredibly fresh. Everyone loved their main courses; I had veal, my wife had Salmon, a lot of home made pastas across the table as well. Our waiter was super attentive without being overbearing; drinks (they have a bar too) were great. The atmosphere was like a holiday dinner with family. They had a singer (we went on a Saturday) who was really fun and the whorestaurant sung a couple of songs with him all together, it was not obnoxious, just very organic because everyone felt so comfortable and was having so much fun. This is a little gem; throw back to amazing food, very fair prices, and a true Italian friendly atmosphere. We already made plans with another group to go back. My first time visiting Tommaso's in about three years. I was a regular there once upon a time, but I needed new scenery so I moved on. I was in Dyker Heights to look at the lights and dropped in for a bite. Things are not quite the same since Tom passed away. Tom was an eccentric man, but very likable. If you are going don't expect great food. Tommaso's kitchen is mediocre at best, order simply and go with low expectation's. There are two reason's to visit. Reason number one is the extraordinary wine list, and reason number two is live opera. I found a 2001 Chateau Pontet-Canet on the list for only $100. The evening's featured opera singer was pretty good too. I will also mention that there are occasional "characters" dining in Tommaso's. They mind their own business and so do I. read more

Hadn't been back to Tommaso's in awhile and we were impressed with Lou and the staff that have taken control of the restaurant since the passing of the owner Tommaso. They are keeping the memory alive and I'm sure he is smiling down on their strength. The food was just the way we remembered it and very appealing. Pros: Restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere for dining. Bar is small. They had live music. Cons: Staff is generally unfriendly, even cold. Food was sub par. Soup was cold, lamb was served sloppy. Poor presentation. Not enough quality or value for the price we paid. Service is a 2 out of 10. Not a top notch experience by any stretch of the imagination. Really great authentic Italian food. We went on a Saturday night and there was a live opera singer which really added to the ambience. The Decour is very old fashioned Italian Brooklyn. A really authentic experience. I got the rigatoni with vodka sauce which was cooked to perfection not too much al dente. My boyfriend got the gnocchi which was with spinach. Also very delicious and creamy. They have three-course meals which includes an antipasto, entrée and dessert for about $30. I believe that is also a great deal. read more

*** 4 1/2 Stars *** ------------------------------------------------ We first heard about Tommaso's from watching Samantha Brown when she did an NYC Christmas episode. She ate at Tommaso's on Christmas Eve and had the feast of the 7 fishes. During the show, Tommaso (Thomas Verdillo) sang opera---which is what he sometimes does for his customers (but, alas, not when we were there). It struck me as the type of Italian restaurant that we like---an old school red sauce place. We grew up in the Northeast, taking such places for granted---that is until we moved to the DC Metro area. So...I got on hopstop.com and printed up directions to Tommaso's using our hotel as a starting point. It's pretty straightforward --- take the D train to 18th Avenue and walk about 1 mile. There is a bus you could take from the 18th Avenue station, if you prefer. We got to the place around 5:30 p.m. on a Friday night. Tommaso himself greeted us and had a waiter seat us. This waiter ended up being our waiter and sadly, he is one of the reasons we can't give this place a full 5 stars. The waiter was sullen and gave off an aura of being put up on. For example, the minute we were seated, he asked what we wanted to drink. We hadn't looked at the drinks menu. My husband chose Chianti and told the waiter to give me a bit of time to decide. I was leaning towards getting a soft drink when my husband convinced me to get a whiskey sour on the rocks. The place wasn't very busy at all in the main dining room. However, there was a private party going on in another room. Our waiter wasn't working that room but still he took his time getting to us to take our order. He wasn't rude or nasty---but he did need to improve his attitude. We chose the 3 course menu which was $25/person. For my first course (appetizer) I chose zucchini fritti and my husband chose pasta e fagioli. The zucchini fritti was just okay---I have had far better, thus another reason for not going for 5 stars. My husband really enjoyed his pasta e fagioli. It had lots of stock in it and I felt it was almost like having a whole meal. This was a tasty soup---just like home made. For my second course, I chose lasagna della Mama while my husband chose ravioli and meatballs. The lasagna was very tasty. I noticed that it didn't have ground beef in it rather it had shredded beef. My husband liked his ravioli and meatballs. The meatballs were small and neither of our portions were overly huge. While we were eating our main course, Tommaso came by to ask how I liked his mother's lasagna. I told him that I was enjoying it and commented on how it was different than any lasagna I ever had due to the shredded beef. He told me that ground beef was the Sicilian way while shredded beef was the Neapolitan way. He told us that in years past, women would cook up a large quantity of meat and would use it in different recipies so nothing went to waste. Also, at one time he put sausage in his lasagna but customers found that to be odd so he stopped doing that. For our third course, I chose Italian cheesecake while my husband chose an apple tart. These were the 2 desserts that Tommaso recommended. He told us that he didn't like traditional Italian cheesecake so he came up with his own version. He made it less dry and more lemony flavored. The end result is a very tasty but not overly rich cheesecake. The apple tart came with a marscapone sauce which added a tart flavor to counteract the sweetness. Again, this, too, was tasty. We left feeling full but not ready to explode. This is a popular neighborhood joint as we noticed some regular customers came in and Tommaso addressed them by name. Even though it was our first time dining here, Tommaso made us feel welcome. As we left, he told us to visit again. We most certainly will! read more

Tomassos is an uber charming restaurant- with a piano player who sings opera and decorations straight out of someone's home. The family photos in the bathroom are so cute. You feel very much at home here and my mom would have loved the live music. The food is old school and some dishes could use some new schooling. Nice bread w/ housemade pesto and a good arancini start the service. There is a $27 prix fixe which has plenty of choices for appetizers and entrees. I went with the stuffed artichoke which they didn't have so I changed to baked clams which were standard. For my main I went with lasagna which was quite dissapointing. Overcoooked pasta with cheese tasting like Polly-O not delicate and felt like not a lot of thought went into this dish which can be such a treat. The dessert of Italian cheesecake dusted with flour was good. Sad & shocking that this is the last Italian left restaurant in this area where there was once so many memorable ones. read more

I have been going to this place since 1989. Have not been there in 5 years since my fathers funeral. Visited today 10/15/2023. First off they have a Russian guy singing Italian songs and he sounds horrible. The food was the worst Italian food I have ever had. My wife was grossed out. Even another couple there where complaining. I'm assuming the original owners are gone. What a horrible experience. I ordered the Trippa Siciliana. The waiter asked me if I wanted pasta or potatoes in it. Puzzled I said potato of course. So out comes the plate with "3" pieces of trip and flash home fried potatoes. Gross beyond gross. I will never go back. My wife got pork cutlet in Gorgonzola sauce. Not a good combo. What a shame. Please save your money. read more
