The item was a pair of shoes, in a shoe box. The young man working the return abruptly told me that it needed additional packaging, and then went on to say "If anything happens to it it's not UPS responsibility". It was surprising that a carrier being paid to safely deliver a package would be so quick to absolve themselves of that responsibility. Being that he is younger, I believed this to be a training issue so I mentioned that he should work on his customer service skills for how he says things. He'd already printed the return label when the other young man working there chimed in and told me I could take it to Macy's and return it there. I'm aware, but I'd chose to return it here out of convenience. It was made clear by these statements that this location would prefer not to handle returns and is not interested in changing how they speak to customers.
