The food hall leans impressively diverse, with fusion spots spanning lots of cuisines- Colombian, Thai, Jamaican, Mexican, Laotian, Moroccan, etc. At the center is a circular bar with TVs, which makes for a great gathering spot. The vibe overall is relaxed and family-friendly I tried an empanada from Mekatos, a Colombian-Laotian spot, filled with brisket and potato! It was fantastic. As Colombian-style empanadas, they're also naturally gluten-free. I highly recommend. The service was friendly and quick.

We arrived after 9:00 PM and were able to find street parking right in front, but there is no dedicated parking lot, so parking may be more challenging during busier hours. One thing to note is that many of the food vendors close around 9:00 PM. By the time we arrived, most stalls were either already closed or in the process of cleaning up. We were still able to grab empanadas and non-alcoholic drinks from Mekatos Eatery and bring them over to enjoy at 1888 Bar, the central bar area within the market. We sat at the bar and watched a game, and the bar stayed open until after 11:00 PM when it ended. Southern Market is a great space, it's very large, clean, open, and modern, with what appears to be a beautifully renovated warehouse-style design. The black-and-white color scheme, exposed metal elements, and high ceilings give it a contemporary industrial feel. Southern Market seems like a great spot with a wide variety of food and drink options when all the vendors are open. Based on our experience, I would recommend visiting for lunch or an early dinner to take full advantage of everything the market has to offer.

By the time I arrived around 4, most of the other shops were closed and the rest were cleaning up and getting ready to head home at the 6 PM closing time. In fact, I was the only customer in the house. I had the warehouse to myself. I ordered their tacos carnitas with pinto beans and brown rice. I watched as the friendly preparer put my snack together, asking me to choose from each of the ingredient options as she moved down the steam table. She ended with the type of finishing sauce I wanted squirted on top. I went with the most spicy chipotle/chili pepper. The tacos were good, if a bit drippy. The pork was tender and moist, and the overall big bite was tasty and filling. The rice and beans may have been on the steam table all day, so were past their prime - a bit dried out. Still, I was dining alone and had time to look around and appreciate the historic structure surrounding me. More on that in another review.

They have a small television playing programming from Mexico. I really like that touch. Other flowers and decorations too, making it authentic. I ordered a burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, Barbacoa (seasoned, tender, shredded beef), medium spiced red onion salad with a spicy, tangy and sweet flavor, medium pico de gallo, shredded cheese, lettuce, and sour cream on the side, as well as a lime - garlic cream sauce on the side. Even though Chipotle is similar, the flavors here are by far way better. Sorry, no pictures - I devoured my take home platter. I wish I could eat at this place more often. I was only visiting the area. The next time I'm in Wilmington, I will definitely return. Yum. Yum. Yum.

What a wonderful surprise! Two ladies who run the food truck have great homemade seasoned beef balls (their OG Sisters Balls), seafood balls, sausage meatballs (Tony's Balls), turkey balls (Gobble Gool Balls), Rice Balls, vegan mini balls, and even mini calzone aka "Italian empanadas."  All are topped off with their signature San Marzano tomato sauce.  If meatballs aren't your jam, they also offer specials such as eggplant parmigiana and zucchini flowers. We ordered the following, Gobble Gool, OG Sister's Balls, Tony's, and their famous OG Sisters Balls. All were perfectly seasoned and savory!! Your Sister's Balls, the food truck, serve their balls in pairs with a slice of fresh Italian bread, to mop up the delicious sauce in to-go containers. If you plan on eating right away, they do offer a paper tray, lined with aluminum foil. It should be noted, The Sampler, which includes 3 big balls, please note the seafood, vegan, and mini calzones are not included. If you want to know where their food truck will be found, you can check them out via Instagram or FaceBook. One of the ladies even told me you can sign up for their email list for updates, promotions, and where they will be to follow them. Can't wait to try out more of their specials. I've got my eyes on their eggplant parmigiana!
