Terrible customer service!!! I don't recommend ordering online at this location because the staff is rude and don't have good problem solving skills. I placed online order (picture attached) and saw that they couldn't give me cranberries I requested because it's "an extra charge". Fine, not a problem... So I went to register and asked for a side of cranberries so I could pay for them. Well... That wasn't an option and the manager walked up and asked if there was an issue and the lady said "she has a PROBLEM with the cranberries" and i responded with I don't have a PROBLEM with the cranberries I just have no option to add it as an extra online which is why I put it in the notes. So I am here trying to pay for it. Manager said there no way for them to do that. So I asked how do I get cranberries? He said you'd have to do it when you order it... Which again, isn't an option online... I've NEVER had this issue at the Algonquin location and they have excellent customer service. They even acknowledge you as soon as you walk through the door. If I'm being honest, Potbelly's is probably my favorite sandwich shop. I enjoy the taste of their Italian and if I'm close to one and it's around a meal time, I can very easily convince myself to head over for a sub. My favorite is the Italian, which is the only sub I've ever ordered from them. It tastes delicious, so why order anything different?! Getting to this specific location, my sandwich, along with the two others I picked up for family, tasted just as they should. They were made fresh in front of my eyes and the staff behind the counter was super friendly and got everything just right. This Potbelly's is located on the outskirts of a strip mall. It's parking is easy, as there's lots of spots to choose from in the lot. Crystal Lake's Potbelly's is a bit small and can be described as narrow. I've never actual dined in, so I can't say if it gets loud during a busy shift. However, it looked clean and organized to my eyes. As far as the sandwiches go, though, it all tasted great! This was my second visit to a Potbelly's - the last being in 2019 in Chicago - and this is a solid sandwich shop. This location the staff was friendly and accommodating when I came in with staggering decision paralysis. My vehicle had broken down and I was waiting for my roommate to pick me up, so I stopped in to get some lunch and take the edge off what could have quickly become a bad day. I get a sandwich at Potbelly's (Crystal Lake) 2-3 times a month and love the place. I just love hot sandwiches. The ingredients are always fresh. The service for in-store orders is always quick and efficient. The staff is pleasant. Of all their fantastic offerings, I like the Avo Turkey and the Wreck the best. It's my first choice for lunch when I'm in Crystal Lake. The only downside is their email/phone app bargains and double points only apply if you use their phone app, which was a total disaster the one time I tried it. The lesson I learned was to skip the phone app and ONLY order in person, at the restaurant. It's far quicker. I've walked in around noon time with 9-10 people waiting by the register for their called-in or on-line orders. I can order, get my sandwich and pay for it within 5 minutes max, while in that same 5 minutes, only 1 or 2 of those waiting for their orders get their food and leave. This store is not a good one. Today I placed an on line order, and they quoted an 1 hour + wait time. Only 3 employees, not a large line but no ability to accommodate producing a sandwich for nearly 90 minutes. With a post 2 PM promise time, and a 3 PM close time for the store, I have zero confidence in this place. Online tools do not provide the ability to cancel or change the order, and the store staff have no ability to cancel or refund the transaction without a 2 to 5 day wait period. The manager did a good job staying calm in the face of my irritability but she needs to find a new key phrase. The fifth time hearing "I'm sorry you feel that way but, I can't help you" does nothing to deescalate the situation. I doubt very much that they will actually process that refund. read more

Probably best to avoid this place during peak meal hours. As far as I can tell, there is no first come first serve or any other system beyond randomly choosing which order to complete. And, online orders are not apparently filled until all walk-ins are taken care of. We have been to this location a few times, but always in off-peak hours. Today we ordered online at noon. The confirmation notes the order would be ready by 12:15. We came in at 12:20 to find the location filled with walk-ins and people waiting for their orders. I checked in and the woman at the register checked on my order, telling me they were still working on it. After 30 minutes of waiting and watching many walk-ins order and leave with their food, I checked again. Still working on it... so I got into the walk-in line thinking it would be faster. The person (who may have been the manager) apologized that they were shot-handed. Then I saw their system. They had order receipts hanging two or three deep in their order area. The person packing was looking through them in no particular order. Basically, I could have been waiting for another hour or more before they got to my order. I ran out of time for lunch, walking out with my bag after 1pm, so the order was placed in the fridge as leftovers. Another one of my favorite sandwich chain places. I've been going to Potbelly's for years. Any location, hasn't ever been a problem of where and this location is no less. My favorites are A Wreck, Roast Beef or the Chicken and Cheddar as well as my new favorite being pastrami. The sandwiches can either be hot or cold. Menu selection isn't exactly what I call large, but they have most of your basics with a lot of toppings available. I enjoy the retro-style of this chain as well. Makes the experience much more interesting then your average sandwich shops. Last but not least, I can't forget about the Zapp's chips which I can only find in Potbelly's or certain states such as Louisiana and are always delicious to me. read more

We love going to Potbelly's no matter which location it is. I always get the AWreck with everything on wheat. They have really good potato salad in the cooler by the bottle beverages, too, so don't pass this up! The staff is always very friendly. The menu offers a lot more than I have tried. The shakes/malts look tasty, but I haven't experienced them. They also have a bunch of soup options that seem to change daily. I have to compliment on the decor, cause I really like how they throw up some local fair. They had some old school pictures of Crystal Lake and have tables for different High Schools in the town and other sports memorabilia on the wall for the Cubs and Sox. Don't forget to get a Oat Meal Chocolate Chip cookie! They are our favorite and only cost a buck 25! I'd say this is the best sub option on route14. The only downside is that there aren't many tables for seating for groups larger than 4. And, if you go when it is busy you'll be lucky to find a seat. read more

Shout out to Crystal Lake Potbelly for delivering my food to a place that isn't on the delivery list. I had to use Grubhub, and that was a mistake!!! I waited over 2 hours. They kept telling me my order will be there in 15 min. I ordered at 1120am and I get a call at 115pm from Potbelly's saying they never picked up my order. Thank you to the catering coordinator for delivering it to my place of work!!! Not only did they deliver it, they made a whole new order. I absolutely love this potbelly so much and the main reason why I go is for one of their workers named Bailey. Bailey always has this huge smile on her face when I walk in and she knows my order by heart. She's always perky and preppy and gives service with a smile. She goes above and beyond and always asks if I would like to add a dream bar to my order (I always say yes, she knows me so well) and tells me to have a nice day. Whenever I go into the store if their not busy I always so Bailey cleaning or mopping or wiping the shelves down! Way to go Bailey!! I don't only go for the food but I go for the potbelly experience as well and whenever Bailey is there I leave smiling. Telling all of my friends about this location, thanks potbellys! read more

I typically don't spring for chain restaurants, but the work crew decided that this would be a good place for our limited time out. I've been to other Potbelly's before, so I was pretty familiar with the sandwich assembly-type restaurant. All the menu items had a calorie count listed next to the menu, which helped me choose something that was best for my nutritional outlook for the day. I ordered a Mediterranean sandwich with chicken on a flatbread sandwich. A little pricy for the actual product due to its smaller size, but I was generally impressed by the flavor. Seating is a bit limited here, and we combined 3 little tables to accommodate 7 patrons. The configuration and the furniture for the location made it awkward for one of my companions, as people trying to get by had to squeeze in while my companion had to squish into the table to allow that person to pass. In any case, I think that it's a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch. read more

3.5 stars. This is a basic sub shop that really does not have anything all too special to it. There are no real thrills here but sometimes simple is better. The upside - soft doughy bread that when toasted comes out just the right amount of crispy. They have different sized subs and a few different options for protein. Prices are good for what you get. The downside - the roast beef is more like the prepackaged deli meat. JJ's has real roast beef and the texture and taste is superior. The deli meat Potbelly uses is somewhat hidden by the toasting process and other extras but it still seems inferior to other places. You have some options for condiments but there are not very many of them. Subway and WhichWhich have far more available. I would love to customize further but in the end a roast beef sub is going to always be nearly the same. They have no extra sauces outside of mayo and oil I think. They do not have options for spinach, mushrooms, green pepper or other veggies, and you seem to be stuck with a specific cheese to the type of sandwich you order. While good, it gets boring rather quick. Comparing a JJ's and Potbelly roast beef, I find that the toasting process is the only benefit to Potbelly. The better quality meat at JJ's puts them ahead. The biggest problem is that between the major 4 or 5 different sub places in Crystal Lake, none of them come out as spectacular. If someone took the best parts of each sub shop and combined them, it would be amazing. Potbelly is good for sure, but is not consistently my go-to sub place for lunch. read more

I absolutely LOVE potbelly's menu. I always get the same thing and the crystal lake location has terrible attention to detail and customer service. I get the uptown salad (with avocado and extra fruit) 95% of the time something is forgotten on the salad. I asked for extra onions and there were none in the salad. When I brought it to attention and asked if there was onion in it, she said "ooohh no" no apology or even the slightest a concern. If this was the first time, I wouldn't be leaving this review. But like I said, 95% of the time, my order is somehow wrong. read more
