The menu pretty much says you have to discuss with the cashier, which we did. For vegan and gluten free, the Hebrew Hero can be both vegan and gluten free (confirmed the GF bread is ALSO vegan) as well as the Mushroom Rueben, but with that one they'd need to take off both the sauce and the cheese, then it would just be mushrooms on bread, which was neither recommended nor sounded good. The Potchke Salad without any dressing also is vegan/GF. The Rip and Dip sandwhich on GF bread subbing avocado tartine for the labna. Also, the Borsch(t) without the sour cream and rolls is also vegan GF. I got the Hebrew Hero on what I'm hoping was gluten free bread that was also vegan. The bread seemed too good to be both GF & vegan though! The sandwich was outstanding. I also got a house made strawberry fennel soda at the cashier's recommendation. My husband got the rip & dip entree and we shared a borscht soup, all made vegan. It's also a great coffee shop. The interior is spacious with a couch seating area as you enter and the rest is table and chair seating that is welcoming. Everything was incredible, fresh and delicious. We recently ate at this establishment on a Saturday morning at about 10AM. This is a busy restaurant so get in line and wait on a seat to open. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. We split a Matzo Ball Soup which was savory and hearty. We ordered the Cheese Blintz and Potato Blintz dishes. I thought the Potato Blintz was the better dish a beautiful combination of onions and Potatoes wrapped in a delicious crepe. My wife thought the Cheese Blintz wasn't as good as the one we had at Carnegie deli in NYC. Carnegie Deli has since closed so that comparison is moot. So glad and relieved that the owners decided to keep Potchke around (it was initially meant to be a temporary pop-up). This is an incredible spot for some fresh and unique food in a eclectic, bright, and comfy setting. We admittedly had a challenging time finding Potchke, as the signage is very subtle, presumably because it is not a permanent spot. It is tucked into the Regas building, around the corner from Marble City Market. We stepped inside the space and were warmly greeted by the staff and the unique, multi-space room (a few comfy seating spots-one with a fireplace!, low tops, high-top work stations, and bar seating running all along the window area). This would be a cozy and tasty spot to work remotely. The menu is small with a few daily specials in the mix and the space and bathrooms clean and inviting. We ordered an iced coffee, avo tartine, lox bialy, and an apple crumble babka. Everything was wonderful. The salmon in the lox dish was perfectly sliced and very fresh. The bagel it was on was super soft and tasty. The avo tartine was the perfect combination of textures and flavors with the slight kick of the chili oil on the perfectly crisped toast and the crunch of fresh local veggies with the creamy avocado. While the side salad was a nice touch, I'm not sure it was necessary, especially when it was simply lettuce with a vinaigrette and a few seeds on top. I ended up scooping it onto my toast. The babka was really flavorful. I think it would have been even better warmed up or fresh from the oven. The sweetened butter served with it was a welcome addition. There is a water and coffee station and we liked that there were glass carafes available for you to fill with water and bring to your table if the small glasses were not enough. I would agree with another reviewer that more drink options would be nice, like teas, and fresh fruit juices. I would also say that this place is very pricey for the portion sizes. There are so many raving reviews about this place that I can't help but feel this could be a fluke but it's my opinion nonetheless. Great atmosphere, staff seems really nice, food was just okay. I had the lox bialy which tasted fantastic on the first bite but then I realized it was just the salt. Could barely taste anything after the initial bite. I am at home chugging water while I type this out. The lox itself was great but there was almost none on one of my halves. I had to deconstruct everything to spread it around. In the $17 price range definitely one of the least-enticing lox bagel offerings I have had. The pastrami and mustard, one of my all-time favorite combinations, was pretty disappointing. The bread was okay, kinda dry. The meat was pathetic. It's just little strips of bone-dry bacon-style pastrami. Every little strip that I bit was pulled out with every bite. I had to put my sandwich back together like at least 5 times. Boldly claiming that it's better than Katz's is one of the wildest things I have ever heard. For $22 it's absolutely not it. Excellent, modern "Jewish-fusion" restaurant. I call it fusion because the menu seems to blend a variety of unique options from the Jewish deli base. I had the matzo ball soup -- a great choice on a cold January day. It stood out because of all the herbs and spices in the soup. This was accentuated by my electing to choose the version with more spice. As a fan of big soup bowls like Asian style pho or Japanese Ramen, the matzo ball was equally as good and hit the spot. As good as my matzo ball soup was, the pastrami sandwich was even better. I mean..wow. This was a special that day and my son ordered it. I only tasted a few pieces of the meat (not even the bread). But, just from that small taste, I could tell it was awesome. Such good flavor. Probably the best pastrami meat I've ever tasted. I also ordered the Babka because I am a fan of Babka generally. Indeed, I sometimes order the famous Green's babka from New York or buy it seasonally when it is at Whole Foods. While this version was good, it wasn't what I expected for babka. Tasted more like a cinnamon roll to me -- which is a bit more moist and less crispy parts. Decent and tasty. But, I think it could be better. The coffee bar looks really nice. It was too late in the day to order coffee. But, I could tell they had good offerings and the coffee smell made me crave a cup. Next time! Aside from the food, I like the atmosphere here. As soon as I walked into this restaurant, I knew it would be like no other. One of the first things I noticed was its Michelin plaque on the wall. The environment in this restaurant was another thing I noticed. Its bright colors and beautiful paintings on the walls made the room feel warm and welcoming. Once we walked in, we were immediately given a menu. We sat wherever we wanted and looked through the menus. Once we decided what to order, I got up and ordered at the counter. When the food was ready, they brought it over to us. Speaking of the food, it was delicious and definitely deserved the Michelin plaque on the wall. The bialy was to die for, and the potatoes blintzes were even better, which I didn't know was possible. Something I noticed on the menu was that the dishes were given names like "bat mitzvah showstopper" which I found quite funny. The menu opens backwards, which shows much attention to detail since the Jewish prayer books are read backwards. The place was bustling around 1pm on Friday. Free public parking lot under the bridge. You order at the front counter and seat yourself when you find an open table. Chocolate egg cream - I'd never had an egg cream before today. I'd only ever heard of them through rambling conversations with senior citizens and accidentally watching the Turner Classic Movies channel. Potato Blintz - Fantastic dish. Two perfectly cooked crepes filled with finely diced potato, pillowy soft scrambled egg, and a little melted cheese. I didn't pickup on the caramelized onion, but was delicious nonetheless. Spread on a little creamy Labneh, soak up a little spicy chili oil, and top with thinly sliced avocado... and you got yourself a perfect bite. Complete dish. Would absolutely order again, and hope to try the sweet cheese blintz next time I'm in Knoxville. Lox Bialy - really enjoyed this sandwich. Served on a everything bialy (my favorite of the three we tried). Plenty of lox, and the pickled capers and pepper relish were sweet and bright. I had the Whitefish Salad on a Bialy that was almost too much for a lunch, but powered through. My wife had the half order of Pastrami on Challah (yes they have pastrami). I am a transplant from Miami and was in fear of not having a deli to go to in Knoxville. I feel Miami is second to New York being the deli capital, so my expectations were high. When I heard about the Pop up Potchke, my curiosity peaked, because Miami has amazing Pop Ups. Due to business back in Miami I didn't make it to Potchke as soon as I would have liked, but I followed all the media buzz it was creating. Eventually my wife and I made our first visit. We had a little difficulty finding the place and went through the front of the building with the kindness of the receptionist ( which you could tell she had this happen often) and walked through the second doors to only be amazed at the fantastic colorful decor. We stood for a few minutes just soaking up the complete vibe of the restaurant. There was an incredible seating area which looked so miami except for the fireplace. Bright pink couch with a chartreuse armed sofa chair, with different color pillows and live foliage, it was so inviting. Then unlocking our embrace of our first new find, we see the beautiful turquoise counter where you order and a receive a metal holder with a number for your order. Here is where we found the most incredible babkas. This was the first place I ever saw individual babkas. They had a rich ribboned chocolate babka and my new favorite a Peaches and cream babka- rich flaky dough intertwined with vanilla pastry cream and peach jam. They also had shareable size of chocolate babka. We ordered the Potato blintz- two crepes with potato caramalized onion, cheese and scrambled egg served with labna ( strained velvety sour cream) chili oil, avocado and a small mix green salad. Everything was over the top delicious. I had one and my wife ate the other. We then Had to have our favorite, Lox bagel, but they served it on a everything bialy ( a bagel without a hole) with dill & scallion schemer, good nova lox, onions, big capers, tomato qiquillo peppers and dill - this was exactly how we eat them. this was so fresh and comforting. Finally we had to have the Matzoh ball soup. They offered it up two ways, classic and fuss it up ( chili crisp, pickled plum sauce and lots of extra herbs). We have never had it fussed up, but now we only want to have Matzoh ball soup fussed up. The menu is a condensed menu with all the favorites of a deli menu. I spoke with the Chef who was busy creating on a notebook (in another eclectic raised seating area with couches and chairs surrounded by a thick wood crafted railing that made you think of a exotic Asian location) who said to look out for season specials. The manager was so proud of Potchke that you would think she owned it. I watched her talk with everyone and help enthusiastically when it got super busy. She definitely has the pulse of the business. We sat at a table next to a big window that looked out to the spacious outside seating area. This venue has so many choices where to sit. They had a large, long wooden high top that would be great for a large group. They had individual high tops as well. I loved the 2 blue velvet chairs with a small round table for an intimate cup of coffee. Finally the two things that stole the show was two beverages far apart in difference, but crafted out of the best of imagination. Pickle me up is a shot served in a sherry type glass and it is their homemade pickle juice with a shot of fresh beet juice. It was refreshing and awakened your taste buds, I recommend this before devouring you tasted meal. The second was a desert in a glass, A legit New your chocolate egg crème. It was creamy and just enough bubbles to make it light enough to want to gulp it. This is our favorite brunch restaurant in Knoxville and will a be a constant hangout! read more

I drove to Knoxville for some exploring and wanted to find a great place to eat first. The high Yelp reviews led me to this place. This was the first of what I anticipate will be multiple visits. I got the Lox Bialy, open faced with a chocolate egg cream. I left the tomato and cucumber off my sandwich. It was the perfect ratio of ingredients for me! The bialy (like a softer, less chewy bagel) had lots of everything spice and tasted fresh. The cream cheese and nova lox is such an awesome combo. If you have never had it, nova lox is cured and cold smoked so it's not a strong smoky taste. I really don't get any smokiness which is my preference. If you like a Philly sushi roll, you'll love this! You can get it as a sandwich or the open faced is a larger portion. An egg cream is milk, flavor syrup (chocolate in this case) and some seltzer. It's something I'm familiar with and this one was tasty. It's not huge but it was the right size to have with my meal. All the staff I interacted with was super friendly. The space is bright and modern. The menu is filled with fresh options and multiple vegetarian or vegan choices. I was definitely impressed with the quality of my meal and felt the prices were appropriate for this type of place in a downtown location. Others might find the prices on the high side. Everything I saw other people eating looked great. It was busy but I didn't have to wait to sit down around 130 on a Sunday. I could see this place being packed during weekday lunches! When I searched on Yelp for restaurants and came across a place called "Potchke" (true story, our dog's name was Tchotchke Potchke z''l), I thought it was too good to be true! In Knoxville, of all places! It was such a warm, welcoming haven on a stormy day. We discovered the secret menu and ordered the pastrami reuben. Thank goodness we shared it! What an enormous sandwich! And you know a place is the real deal if it offers Cel-Ray. The decor is truly delightful. More filling than the food was the pride I felt for my Jewish heritage when I was welcomed at the counter by a lovely young man wearing a Magen David. We ate lunch there a couple of days ago. The decor was pleasant & we really liked being able to take a bottle of water to the table. They were crowded but it was still pleasant surroundings. Our food was slow to come out but good. The presentation of the Mushroom Ruben however was so bulky that it was hard to eat. We found the music to be loud & obnoxious for anyone over 25. Couldn't identify its genre but sounded like maybe Ukrainian Punk. Since their clientele is not @ all that skewed to that population they might want to rethink this. read more
