Sad to see the change of Parton's Deli. Dennis was AWESOME. We live here and I always LOVED going and getting g his hotdogs. I had been able to go for some time till today and got my normal 3 hotdogs. While they were ok, they did not come close to what they used to be. And all the decor that was there is gone. It just isn't the same. Yes, change is going to happen. But it isn't the same anymore. Many items have changed. I remember always watching Dennie "hand steam" the buns and sandwiches. That isn't anymore either. I may go try something else on the menu but will have to think about it. I will NOT be getting the hotdogs again though. They are not good enough for a repeat order right now unless something changes. I noticed a lot of things that used to sold there are no longer and the cold cabinet was mostly empty. These pictures are from before and none of these was there anymore. I pray who ever owns or running it will bring back things the way they were. FYI THIS IS CASH ONLY! We love this local delicatessen! After a day of hiking the turkey and Ruben subs, along with the potato salad, hit the spot. The customer service and kindness the owner had was next to none. If we lived here this would be a regular lunch spot. Be careful, the entrance is right off of a very busy street and parking isn't the easiest to find. We wouldn't not eat here again, but wouldn't come out of our way to come here. Subs were good, nothing crazy special, like some said- similar to what you would make at home. Lots of sides to choose from and a wall of chips. They only do bottled sodas and waters. Prices were a bit high, but it's one of those places they can charge that because it's all that's around here. I assume with the prices going up everywhere they are suffering too. So I'll give that a bit of a pass. It cost us $67 for a family of 5. 1 hot dog, 4 regular subs, 5 chips, 5 drinks. A bit taken back by that honestly. Staff was decent speed moving through making the sandwiches. She made each one and took all the orders, so we waited for the subs and she passes them out individually as she preps them. Great for a quick, no-frills lunch. After a morning of hiking in the park we stopped here to grab lunch. We were greeted by the friendly owner who made small talk while preparing our food. My husband had a turkey sandwich and I tried the hot dog and deviled eggs. Everything was simple but flavorful and hit the spot after hiking. Felt nice to go to a place that wasn't jam packed like every other spot in Gatlniburg, and to support a local small business that's been around for decades. We wanted to stop here in the morning before going into the park so we could carry a picnic lunch with us, but they don't open until lunchtime. Yeaaaa I spent $30 on two sandwhiches chips and a side plus tip and I saw the menu stated "steamed or cold" assuming all items are prepared cold and steamed upon request.... I was wrong. I ordered my sandwhiches with LTM assuming it would be cold and they were steamed and completely soggy and disgusting. I just wish the woman at the counter would have asked my preference as I didn't state I wanted my sandwhich warmed up and I ordered toppings that really only taste good cold. I've been coming to Gatlinburg since I was a kid (I'm 50) and have always passes this place right down from the hillbilly golf. Not until today did I get to stop in and I'm so sorry I didn't! This is one of those places that are 100% legit authentic and you'll have a simple and memorable meal at a family run, old school business. They steam sandwiches on a 46 year old steamer, ring you up (cash only) on a cash register that is older. About the only thing not old or original is the ingredients which are great. Excellent - one of the beat I've had - Italian subs. Good looking chili cheese dogs and don't pass up moms lemon cake. Stop by, get a sandwich, sit in a booth from 1974 and listen like we did to some lovely Elvis Presley on the radio. Love it! read more

The place looks like a classic deli, but it is not. I ordered an Italian sub, only got a few bites of shaved ham and turkey. There were no standard topping, I ended up choosing them. At a real deli in NY or PA for example, and Italian sub is a standard sandwich, sliced layers of pepperoni, salami, capocollo (or other type of ham) topped with veggies. And one needs to exclude items, not pick them. The most disappointing thing was the tiny bit of shaved meat on the sandwich. The place was friendly and quiet though. read more

Such a neat place. Their signature draw is the steamed sandwich. I have never heard of a steamed sandwich and when my wife first suggested we go I was somewhat sceptical. Parking is a challenge. It is on a busy road with no parking. We parked at the liquor store the first time we went (we did ask permission to park at their place which they granted). The second time I stayed in the car and sent my wife in for a carry out. That was when we finally discovered the parking. There is a public parking lot that has a nominal cost beside the miniature golf course. The owner gives a credit for the parking. When you go inside it has a country store feel. You start with the type of bread. I selected pumpernickel ( I love pumpernickel), then you move on to the meat, I went with roast beef, then cheese I selected Long Horn Colby, then you can move on to condiments and toppings. I went one time with mustard and the next with horseradish with a side of pickles chips and a specialty made soft drink. I am thinking that the perfect sandwich is a combination of the two condiments (mustard and horseradish). The sandwich is then placed in a steamer. It takes about 60 to 90 seconds to steam the sandwich. I can safely say that the roast beef sandwich is the best roast beef sandwich I have ever had. The pumpernickel was a hoagie bun. I have never seen anything like that. I asked the owner about the steamer and Mr. Parton told me his father started the deli and he purchased the steamer from a business near the University of Tennessee campus in the early 1970's. The sandwich steamer was popular in Knoxville and now it serves locals and tourists alike in Gatlinburg. Stop by and get a sandwich. You can eat in or carryout . We took a picnic lunch from Partons to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I highly recommend a visit to Partons. read more

The owners greets you with a friendly smile and is very helpful with all choices. All sandwiches are steamed. Deviled eggs are creamy and very traditional. Homemade slaw and potato salad pretty tasty too. As others have mentioned, parking is nil. But neighboring lots can accommodate. There are 4-5 tables to dine in. Atmosphere is '70s rustic but clean. Support LOCAL businesses! We arrived just as the door was opening. No line, and our to-go order took 25 minutes. This wait added Mr. Parton's trip back to the car to get the delicious, freshly made lemon cake that he hadn't carried in yet. We ordered 5 large subs(not steamed), 4 potato salad(yummy), 5 deviled eggs(pretty good), 1 cole slaw(mom raved about it), and 2 lemon cake(awesome). Total was over $50. We were given napkins, forks, and pickles to go along on our picnic. Sandwiches were good but would've been better steamed. Don't skip the lemon cake! It is the fluffiest I've ever had. Moist and not too sweet. Mr. Parton is extremely friendly and made all of our sandwiches himself. The shop is nothing fancy, but I did love seeing all the old fashioned items on the counters. Parking is on the other side of the Hillbilly golf place. We had no problem getting a spot for .75, and if you mention it to Mr. Parton he will reimburse you.
