I gave three stars because I've been to another local running place that really goes above and beyond what this place does. The whole transaction here was fine; the guy who attended me was friendly. I visited the Vienna VA store yesterday, 9/23, and I was very disappointed. This is my "go to " store in the chain and especially when I lived 3 miles from it. Now I live out in Gainesville and so it's a hike to get to. I know I could have ordered the shoe from their online store, but since the shoe itself has been 100% revamped I thought to go there instead. I called, asked them if they had it in my size and color, they did so off I went. Usually the store is pretty organized and I deal with a couple guys there. This visit there were quite a few people. A young woman asked if I needed help, said yeah, some shoes were on hold, when she brought them out- wrong color. I didn't know the color name since it wasn't on their site, and when she went to pull it up, she told me to look at my choices and when I stepped next to her she says "no, you really shouldn't be here". Then their computer went down, and she brought over a phone to look at choices. When I reach for the phone to scroll thru choices, she pulled it back and said "no this is my phone". She seems new and uncertain of what she is doing, so I'll give her a bit of a break, but it pissed me off. I left and went to the Fairfax store and picked up a pair of shoes from (Jonathon?) a long time employee who I've dealt with many times before. Oh, and the shoe I selected from Fairfax turned out to be wildly uncomfortable, so my husband returned to Vienna, and I got the exact shoe I went to their store to get- online. It arrived today and I'm hoping it works out. Sometimes, small business needs to be little more selective when hiring people. read more

Stopped in yesterday to buy some running shoes. I'm a frequent customer. Was "greeted" by a young woman who appeared to be a manager. Her greeting was basically "it's going to be a wait." Not an apology, just a curt statement. There were 2 customers in the store ahead of me with her and another employee working. She commenced to putting away shoes that were out on the floor - boxing them and carrying them to the back. Meanwhile the other employee was standing at the register clearly struggling with something. Two more customers came in after me and received the same curt comment. I understand employees are hard to find but I think prioritizing putting shelves away when their are numerous customers is not good customer service. We left after basically standing around for too much time. Headed over to a competitor's store. read more

SHOE SHOPPING WHILE BLACK! I took my 14 year old daughter to the Vienna location to buy spikes. A young woman greeted us. she asked great questions and then measured my daughters feet. after determining her size as the woman was going to get our shoes a man and his son came in. she walked over and began talking to them. Ok, not a problem. Then she left to go get shoes. The woman walked back out and asked the young man to confirm his size. she left again. when she returned she only had shoes for him. She didnt even acknowledge that she had been helping us or that we were waiting. we walked out. it was so rude. she acted like we were invisible. there was no way they were getting my money. The worst customer service I have ever experienced! If you are black you may not want to shop there! read more

Had the best experience with Nathaniel! He went above and beyond and fitted me and the fiancé with multiple shoes and inserts. He also did multiple running analyses for us and was able to pinpoint reasons why we were potentially experiencing pain on our runs. I don't often have time to write reviews but these guys deserved it. I was concerned when I walked in a Saturday and saw a bunch of young kids working but these guys handled it like pros. They asked for patience and got to everyone. The tested me on the treadmill and on the analytics machine. The service was outstanding. Today I ran outside for the first time with the new shoes that supported my flat feet and I cut my mile time by 1.5 minutes. I was amazed with the absorption of the shoes they suggestEd after comparing three pairs. Very impressed and will send my three teenagers and wife here for a fitting. read more

Searching for a running store while in town for the Marine Corps Marathon, I found PRR on yelp and proceeded to visit this Falls Church location. It was pretty easy to get to, the shopping center off of Leesburg Pike (7?) and I-66. There's a Trader Joe's that anchors this center so the parking lot is super busy and congested, but it was easy to find a space and walk into the store. When I arrived, I was looking for some hammer gels, of which the (I believe) owner of the store knew immediately that he did not carry at this particular location. He was quick to recommend his other products, but it was a bummer for me cause I couldn't get the nutrition I needed for tomorrow's race (since I trained with it). Other than them not having what I was searching for, the location is nice and spacious, running apparel on racks, the nutrition and equipment organized in their areas... a large shoe wall and staffers busy helping fit people into running shoes. While people were taking "laps" around the store to try out what shoe is the right "fit" (pun intended), you can see there was a painted chalk board wall with various events the store sponsors and running club news. Just like my local running store in Charlotte, I am sure they have a great running community in DC. read more

Had the best experience here! I've only started running in the last year or so and anytime people talk about getting a 'runner's high' or 'walking on clouds' I get suspicious. I'm obviously not a runner by nature and didn't want to invest much when the money could be spent on more fun things. But my husband had been on me to get a proper shoe fitting done here for awhile. He did it and loved the results, plus he had serious concerns about my form (apparently I have weak ankles and my foot rolls on the arch). I 100% did not want to go in, I only went because he was pestering me. We worked with Kathleen who helped him originally and I'm embarrassed to say that I was probably a pretty difficult customer. I showed very little enthusiasm and since I don't know much about running in general, I couldn't articulate what about the shoe was uncomfortable. But she was nothing if not patient and knowledgeable.I did the 3D foot scan so she had a decent idea where to start me and was very understanding when I stated I had no intention of jogging while they recorded my gait (I had just eaten lunch...was in work clothes...WAY too many real runners in the store). And credit where credit is do, she found me a shoe that fits GREAT. I've since run over 5 miles in them and am embarrassed at how much better I feel. Potomac River Running has completely won me over and I look forward to working with them more in the future and maybe even joining one of their running clubs! read more

I really wanted to like this place - it was recommended by a friend who is an avid runner. I have my first race coming up and in the past have always just go to normal athletic shoes stores and pick out what is comfortable. I was looking for a consultative approach and although I got great customer service, I was an underwhelmed by the insight into what type of shoe I should wear. The rep who helped me was great, but he was the only person working and had to help 4 customers at a time. He was quick and multitasked request very quickly (and I will admit, I was needy) At one point I heard the woman next to me ask "what should I be looking for?" she was looking for the same consultative advice as me - what DO you look for when trying on a running shoe? I didn't know. Unfortunately I didn't get that consultation and now have a pair of shoes that are causing me pain on my runs. I wouldn't be that disappointed if PR had my size in half of the shoes that I was interested in, but they did not. I was also disappointed with style, color and variation of the options they did have. It seemed like every other pair I wanted to try on, they did not have in my size. The response I got to my concerns was "that is what they send us". When I asked if I could get shipped a shoe from another store location, I was told I needed to physically go to the store to purchase the shoe. I don't have that time. Nail in the coffin: Due to the fact hat the shoes are not working for me on my runs, I went online to look around for other options. (Particularly those that I saw at PR, but they didn't have my size) I noticed that the shoes I ended up buying at PR were $40 less on Zappos. Maybe my experience was tainted by me being under informed and not educated enough in what to look for. However, I was looking for that education in my visit to the store and did not get that. If you are new to running and need consultative advice, I would not recommend this option. Perhaps my expectations were too high going in to my visit to the store and unfortunately were not met. read more

I'm a new runner; started back in June with c25k, as a way to get more fit and such - I didn't take it incredibly seriously, so I started the program in some worn out New Balance sneaks...but when those just got a little too dingy, I ran out to Marshall's and bought some cute $40 Saucony's to fill in. Little to my surprise, I actually started to ENJOY running, and since have done both a 5 and 10k, and try to run about 3 times a week. I decided that, in the interest of my health, safety and well-being, I should get fitted for running shoes. Blah, blah, blah - get to the review, right?! Anyway, yes, after some internet research, I decided to give Potomac River Running a try. Right down the road from Tysons, we stopped in today and I had my foot measured and scanned on the computer screen - got to see where my pressure is put on my feet, and even learned that I should be wearing a larger shoe. With that, plus a look at my old shoes, Chris, my friendly PRR shoe expert went back and grabbed a few pairs for me to check out. With each shoe, I was given the opportunity to walk,run around the store and even jump on the treadmill, which was attached to a camera/monitor device, so you could see how your feet strike the ground. From this, I learned that I am a neutral runner! Chris was patient and explained the different components of each shoe and their features, and after some discussion and shoe trying and re-trying, I ended up 'upgrading' to a Saucony that featured that good stuff that would help my neutral stance. I was happy with my purchase and would recommend PRR to anyone! read more

UPDATE: We spoke with the GM as he requested, and visited the One Loudoun (Ashburn) store and were very happy with Dan's attentiveness, knowledge, and helpfulness to find my daughter's new pair of shoes. This store has a larger selection it seemed and more merchandise so we will be back! Thanks for making this a much better shopping experience. Our first experience in 2020 was amazing, my sister, father, and I all purchased shoes that we loved and had a great experience with knowledgeable and friendly staff who cared and took their time with our fittings. Fast forward to last weekend on Sunday. Our assistant was a friendly young lady who was very helpful in fitting my daughter's new running shoes. The old lady working there -- WOW, was she terribly rude. We completed our fitting, was standing in line, then the person behind us was called up by the other woman to cut in line and check out (no apology OR explanation). Turns out they didn't have the shoes in my daughter's size so we said it would be okay to ship to our house directly from another store since it was only a 42 hour turnaround we were told. That worked since we were busy and my daughter is leaving town for a camp. By Wednesday the $100+ shoes still didn't arrive. Called the store. No record of the shoes. Waited to get to the bottom of the issue. Nobody had a clue what was going on. Apparently the rude old lady didn't actually place the order...As we had plans to be out of town we need sneakers ASAP. Went to get the refund from PR Running and guess what - the rude old lady who SCRED THIS UP had the audacity to give my husband a hard time SINCE HE DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE TO ASHBURN TO GET THE SHOES. Sorry, you had your chance to apologize and make things right by at least being humble about your mistake. But please don't expect our business moving forward with THAT entitled attitude. We should have walked out when she moved her customer in line in front of us...Pathetic. read more

I love this store and come here almost every time I need to buy running shoes. But the experience I received most recently was unprofessional and disrespectful. Coming from a "high end" running store, I expected far more. I came in to exchange shoes for a different color and from the start the employee was very impatient and belittling. There is no need for this when I am paying money for their products. If I am paying a high price for shoes, I want to get shoes that I like. I gave this place 2 stars because the shoes are good but the one employee that helped me needs to learn how to be an employee or find another job that they enjoy more. This experience ruined my day . This should not be the case. Avoid this sales assistant if possible. Horrible experience and made me want to leave the store without buying anything. read more

Popped in here on a Saturday afternoon to get some new running shoes. I had a pair of Brooks Adrenalines which were my go-to shoe and I've used for the last 4-5 years for numerous races from 5ks-marathons. Unfortunately, they no longer fit because my feet grew after having a baby 3 months ago. I was going to order new shoes from Zappos online, but some of the reviews of the '15 Brooks Adrenaline model were so-so, so I figured given all those changes, I should go get resized and fit for a new running shoe. Stephanie was very helpful and friendly! She measured my feet, then watched me walk and run on the treadmill and on the hard surface. She recommended a mid-stability shoe. (This is consistent with what I've always worn.) She brought out 4-5 pairs of shoes of varying sizes and widths and I decided on the.... Brooks Adrenaline! But a larger size and wider width. Took my first run in them the next day and despite being out of shape after not running for the last 8 months, they did great! I also got a new high-impact sports bra because I went up a size in that department too after having a baby. read more

Awesome running store super convenient to the Tysons area! I popped in on a Sunday afternoon and while they were pretty busy, someone did make sure to come over within a couple minutes of my arrival. Gait analysis seems to be pretty standard nowadays at higher-end running stores but I appreciated it nonetheless (although it can be pretty frightening seeing how bad your stride looks!). Based on my pronation, one of the sales associates brought out a few styles with medium support. I only tried on three pairs, but the shoe wall seemed to have a pretty good selection. I walked away with a cute and comfortable pair of running shoes. The only downside was the cost - styles I saw ranged from $120-$170 (mine were $140). Not really a big complaint, though, considering this seems to be the going rate for good shoes. The sales associate was also super friendly, asking me about my training and upcoming races. Love coming to a place where everyone else likes running as much as I do! read more

Since I broke my ankle a few years ago, Ive had a hard time running and getting back into shape, so figured it was about time I looked at getting some really good supportive running/walking shoes. This place got great reviews and I decided to check it out. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. I was immediately greeted by Elianna, who took her time studying my stride and then brought out at least a million pairs of sneakers for me to try on. Elianna was very helpful and gave me her honest opinion about all the different shoes I tried on. She even checked each pair while I was in them to check where my toes were, to see how I walked with them on etc. I ended up buying the perfect pair for me. I live within walking distance of a pacers. I live down the street from another PRR. I have a VIP card for road runner sports. Despite all that, I still drive all the way out to the falls church Potomac River Running because I have never seen a staff dedicate so much time and patience to helping individual customers out. This running shoe doesn't feel right? No problem, let's try another. Ran in a shoe for almost a month before you realize that it isn't the one for you? No questions asked, have a seat and they will try something else. They don't push custom insoles, or come off as pretentious snobs that only have time for the elite racers; they treat every customer as if it was an Olympic athlete walking in. Me and my wife went there today and got our foot analysis done. In my case, I over pronate, so I ended up getting stability shoes by Nike Structure 16. Which offers great stability plus wider shoe (4E). My wife got her Stability Shoes as well -- Brooks adrenaline GTS 14. Prices are great - they are on par with online. So, why not get their service at online prices. Also, even if you are not a serious runner like me ( I do 15-20 miles a week), I strongly suggest foot analysis not to just avoid injuries but to make running more fun. read more
