I stopped by The Shoe Shoppe in Tysons because I have a pair of slingback heels that I love, but the back strap constantly slips off my foot and makes them almost impossible to walk in. I really wanted to wear them to my cousins wedding and this shop came recommended. I originally thought the strap needed to be shortened, but the staff suggested a different fix. They told me that adding a pad under my foot and a non-slip band on the strap would solve the issue. It helped a little, but not completely leaving me somewhat disappointed. In addition to not receiving a complete fix, what really disappointed me was the service or lack thereof. The man working there barely looked up from what he was doing and never asked me to try on the shoe to see the problem for himself. He gave short, vague suggestions and seemed uninterested in actually helping. I had to walk back and forth to the shelves three separate times to find the products he mentioned, rather than him taking a moment to show me where they were. The whole interaction felt dismissive and rushed. The shop itself is tucked away inside Tysons Mall, so it is easy to miss unless you are looking for it. While it is convenient if you are already nearby, I would not make a special trip back. For a store that specializes in shoes, I expected more attention and care. I have a pair of old knee high leather boots that had become too wide for me, but they are my favorite pair of boots and I had a hard time letting them go. I wanted to find a way to rejuvenate them, and thought I could try bringing them to a tailor to tighten up the width of the boots. Honestly, I reached out to a few tailors and was uneasy if this was worth a shot. I also researched some places that did it online if you shipped your boots, but I really wanted to go in person to ensure they were properly cinched and the tailor understood what I was trying to achieve. After doing some research, I stopped by The Shoe Shoppe after giving them a call. When I tried on my boots to get them pinned, I was afraid they were cinched too tight. However, I went to pick them up a few days ago to try on and they were PERFECT. The tailor did an amazing job making the top width of my boots tighter (with enough wiggle room when you wear jeans). I will say the communication with the shop was kind of lacking, but if you reach out (call to check up), they will promptly answer your question. I picked up my boots three weeks after I initially dropped them off but I think they might have been finished before then - no one just reached out to let me know they were done. I had to call to see if the work had been completed or not (which it was). Even if communication was lacking about my shoes, customer service was very friendly and attentive otherwise. Quality craftsmanship and a great first experience at The Shoe Shoppe! Tailoring a pair of leather boots wasn't exactly cheap (I paid $100 - $50 deposit when I dropped it off and then I paid the rest when I picked up my boots), but it was worth it to me because I have a hard time finding high leather boots I like. read more

Long awaited review. I have frequent "The Shoe Shoppe" for 4 years now. I probably have brought in a total over 20+ shoes. Yes, over that many and not just for repairs, but for protection (of the bottoms of my shoes) along with clean up of the suede ones. They do it all here (LOL). They are highly recommended by Neiman's Marcus for all repairs to your favorite designer shoes (Valentino, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, etc). The Shop is also known for adding rubber soles to the bottom of your shoes for support and red rubber soles to the bottom of all Christian Louboutin's that usually wears off against the concrete. Pricing for this is $35. It's well worth it to protect the shoe. read more

I've had 2 pairs of shoes repaired: nude pumps and black leather boots. The nude pumps needed heel replacement tips ($16) and they matched the tips as closely as possible to the heel. They also cleaned up some of the scratches on the heel, even though it doesn't match exactly it's close enough. Now for the leather boots I wear them pretty much everyday because they're flat and comfortable. The soles were completely worn down to the point there were holes in them and when walking in the rain the water seeped into my socks. At $60, this was pretty pricey to just replace the soles but it's really hard to find a pair that fit so well and are comfortable. He had me pay upfront for this which I anticipate they do with pricier repairs. Overall they did good work but I don't have anything to compare it to since these are the only shoes I've ever had repaired. read more

I brought in a pair of Valentino heels after the cobblestone streets in Charleston, SC gauged the leather and one of my heels actually broke! In addition it was recommended that I have rubber placed on the bottom of the shoe to protect the leather and I could not agree more. Just moved from NYC, usually got my soles done at the Leather Spa- they cost $38 a pop. Here, it is $43. Craziness. Really? In the suburbs of VA? After much research, I brought in 3 of my new chanel flats for presole. I asked for a discount since I was bringing in 3 pairs. They discounted $3 off each pair and so the total was $120 flat. The results= AMAZING! See attached photos. Maybe even better than The Leather Spa NYC. Will post an update on how long they last. I went here because of the good reviews but I will not be returning again. The quality of their work does not match the prices that they charge and you won't find customer service here. First off the Korean guy at the front is very rude and doesn't even greet you as you walk in (and I'm pretty sure he's the owner). Instead he nudges his employees to greet you and assist you. They charged me $20 for my leather boots' soles to be replaced and $40 for my sandals' sole replacement and to glue down the chain that was coming loose. They had my shoes for about 5 days and they did not properly fix the chain that they charged $20 for and I had to come back for my shoes to be repaired a second time. They put so much glue on the shoe now it fits really tight and my Jimmy Choos look ghetto. Honestly, I could've done a much better job and they're supposed to be the professionals!!! I will never return and will also make sure none of my friends go here either! Thanks for ruining my shoes. read more

I was referred here by my SA at Neiman Marcus for any alterations or repairs I wanted to make for designer bags or shoes. After receiving a pair of CL's and realizing I would not last a night out in these 5in (120mm) heels, I decided to get them lifted. I was afraid of cutting such expensive shoes but I've heard of many doing it before and how much it helped. I took my chances, I'd rather get use out of my shoes. Lee was very knowledgeable and efficient (completed in about 30 mins while I shopped around the mall), they even had extra heel tips cause I forgot my own. For CL's (at least So Kate's) you can only cut about 5mm because the heel is metal. Though it may not sound or look like a huge difference, it sure does feel like it! I asked a friend where is a good place to take my Chanel leather purse to revitalize it outside of the Chanel store. She used to work at Chanel and she recommended The Shoe Shoppe. I trust her opinion as she has a lot of different designer items and has worked at several designer boutiques. I called and spoke to Lee and he was polite and gave me an estimate/price range over the phone so I took my purse in on a Saturday. When I walked in I showed him my bag and asked him how much and what could he do to bring my purse back to life. He showed me that I had a tear I didn't even know was there. He told me he could fix that and condition my bag which I am assuming means to dye it. Lee told me the cost would be $100 which I felt was reasonable and I could pick it up Friday and pay then. I was so worried since this is my only Chanel bag and worth over $2,000. I picked it up on Friday and was so happy with the results. My bag had a healthy glow again and the tear was repaired. Very happy with the outcome of my repair. I live very close to Tysons and also frequent the mall so this shop was already very convenient for me. Based on the reviews and seeing the volume of designer shoes being repaired here, I knew I could trust them with my severely damaged Valentinos (blaming the nights I danced my life away with these on lol). I cannot attest for a super friendly customer service as it was straight forward. Pretty much like, give shoes, show damage, give phone number, come back, give phone number, then pay. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and their standard turnaround time was Thursday which was reasonable. Also I felt the price was reasonable for my repairs. He lost a customer after 5+ years. I have been going to this establishment for 5+ years and have recommended their services to family and friends over time. The quality of work has always appeared pretty decent and it has been the only place I bring my designer bags and shoes to. However, after my last visit, I will no longer be using their services. For context, I have been bringing an easily scuffed up pair of white designer heels to get cleaned and repaired. A couple of visits ago, my husband and I went in a little after 5pm (maybe around 5:15pm) since the pick-up time they tell you is always 5pm. The shoes were not ready and they told us it would be another 20 minutes. Not convenient, but not the end of the world. We walked around the mall to kill time. After about 20 minutes, we go back and they ask us to give them another 10 minutes. At this point, it's around 45 minutes past the recommended pick-up time. Our third time in, they were finally ready, I paid and didn't say anything. I simply thought, that they were probably backed up and it wasn't a big deal since it was the only time it had happened. The next time I went in, I lightly asked the man who runs that part of the shop (there's an alterations section in the back) if I could get a discount given the almost hour wait time from my previous visit. He responded that he could not and that I should've asked when it actually happened. I didn't think it was worth combatting, so I said fine and let it go. Now to my last time there. I went into the shop around 5:10pm. The individual who assists the shop owner told me that the shoes were not ready and at this point, I was annoyed, since I had moved things around on my work schedule so I wasn't picking the shoes up too late. Once the shoes were finally done after an additional 20 minutes, I asked the shop owner if I could get a discount (and I'm only thinking like 10%) for the additional wait time and for the inconvenience. The shop owner raised his voice and said, "you ask this every time, you cannot keep asking for a discount". To which I reminded him that I actually only asked the one time out of 5+ years. He then proceeded to aggressively say to me, "well how much do you want it for", "no one has ever asked me this" and "I took time to shampoo the leather". I expressed to him, that I appreciated his attentiveness but given the last couple of times that it's not considerate for me as the customer to wait. He waved me aside and said he wouldn't wash the leather next time. I actually tried to accommodate him and said, "if 5pm is too soon, then just start telling me 5:30pm so I can get a more realistic time" to which he waved me away again. He was not only borderline yelling at me in his store, and was blatantly rude but he outright told me that he was going to do the bare minimum of work on my items. I would like to close with that I actually worked in retail for many years. Even when the customer was mean and wrong, we still gave concessions because that's what the culture is. We went above and beyond for our consistent, kind customers and still sucked it up for the people who weren't great to us. I even recommended this establishment to people I used to sell to in retail! Given this, I was not only appalled by the shop owner's behavior, but I will never use or recommend his services and I have already found a new place to bring my items to. read more

In 5 words or less: The Shoe Shoppe rules. I've never gotten anything tailored here but what I can speak to is the shoe repair. I've gotten many a pair of shoes (and boots) repaired here and I've never been let down. I'm not exactly sure what I do on a daily basis to tear my shoes to shreds (I'm definitely not running marathons in my heels and boots) but investing just a couple bucks every so often to get shoes repaired, really adds some mileage to your favorite pair of shoes (or, in my case, multiple pairs). I'm a big fan of vintage heels but even if the pair I have hasn't been worn very much (or at all in most cases) by its previous owner, the heel caps always fall off, to reveal the dreaded steelhead screw underneath. If you've ever walked in heels with exposed heel screws, you'll know it's dangerous stuff-- walking on smooth floors could result in possibly falling over and publicly embarrassing yourself. In any case, this is one of the repairs that The Shoe Shoppe can do while you wait-- and all for a light price tag of $10. I got a pair of boots fixed too (they needed a new heel) and that was only $15. Lastly, every shoe repair I've ever gotten has come with a free shoe shine! Seems like a pretty good deal if you ask me. read more

I've been a loyal customer but I will not be returning. The owner at the front desk is incredibly rude, especially to women. When I go with my boyfriend, he seems to be a little more pleasant to men. I recently took my favorite leather boots to get the heels fixed and they ruined them. My boots were a shiny polished leather, but they put something on them that made the texture very rough. I mentioned it to the owner and he started screaming at me and getting very upset. I felt so threatened - and disappointed in them ruining my favorite high quality boots - that I will never go back there and will let everyone on my social media know to avoid this shop. Friendly when I dropped shoes off, had the shoes ready a bit sooner than originally quoted, and the work was high quality. The high-end department stores in the area all recommend this place and for good reason.
