I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)

The Long Version: On a previous trip to Montreal, my husband and I walked by Danbi on our last day in the city, so I made a note to return on a future visit, and so we did. We got the Danbi Chicken Wrap ($11.50), Crispy Chicken Bites ($14.99) and added fries for an additional $2. The food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious! The fried chicken bites were crunchy on the outside and the dark meat on the inside was moist and tender. I usually prefer white meat, but the dark meat here wasn't fatty or gristly so I enjoyed it. The sauce came on the side. I had asked the staff there what the Danbi sauce was and she described it as a sweet sauce with a touch of teriyaki flavour. We went with the traditional Yangnyeom sauce, but she ended up giving us both so we could try the Danbi sauce. How nice is that? And I enjoyed both sauces! The accompanying fries were also excellent. They were piping hot and very crispy. They were regular cut fries with a bit of seasoning on them. The Chicken Wrap was also fantastic and very photogenic with all the colourful ingredients. The vegetables in it allowed us to feel more virtuous as we weren't just eating starch and meat. Lol. The wrap had delicious fried chicken bites in it, along with lettuce, cabbage, carrots and I think some sort of pickled vegetable. The tortilla wrap was fresh and soft. We really enjoyed the wrap. The staff working there was really sweet. She answered all my questions and ensured our meal had no sesame seeds in it, like I requested. She brought us water and also small plates so we could share all the items. The place is whimsically decorated (see my pictures) and small. The only seating is bar seating facing the wall for about 6-8 people. You order and pay at the kiosk, but the staff member is available to answer any questions or take special requests. Staff bring out the food as it's ready. We got our fried chicken bites first, then the wrap, then the fries. We were fine with this so we could start eating quicker, lol, and everything arrived at our table piping hot. Everything is served in takeout containers, but it's cardboard, so relatively environmentally friendly. It's mostly a takeout joint. I would definitely recommend Danbi for a quick casual meal. The garlic flavor isn't too heavy; it's light, yet you can still taste it in the sauce. I love how the chicken is super crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The best part is that it's not overwhelming with salt. It's a great meal to enjoy, and I think this is going to be one of my top spots for fried chicken.

Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off a pretty wide street that doesn't seem like a main road is this gem. There's no private parking lot so you'll have to park on the street in the neighborhood, but I didn't have a hard time finding space. Once inside you're transported back to like... the 40s? 50s? Whenever the soda fountain era was with the black/white checkered walls, neon lights and the whole thing. Lol. It was cute. The restaurant is fairly small and that's okay! It makes for a more comfortable and cozy feel. I got my food to go so I didn't have to stay long. Service: The gentlemen behind the counter was very helpful and make sure I got everything that I needed. He also helped me since most of the menus are in French. Food: I started off with their Taco Salad, but as of now I don't see it listed on their menu anymore. Anyway, it's basically their now Southwest Salad which contains mixed greens, corn, red onion, avocado, fried tortillas and shredded cheese, served with chipotle ranch. But instead of being in a bowl, it's in a fluffy, crispy taco shell which was very flavorful and enjoyable. It worked well. The name of the place is called Twisted Burger so I had to try at least one of them. I decided on the Trio Diablo Burger which is 130g beef (1/3 lb), jalapeños, monterrey jack cheese, habanero salsa, grilled onion, chipotle mayonnaise and lettuce, and tomatoes. It kinda slid apart in transport, but I was able to put it back together at my hotel room and it was fine. Nothing super crazy or explosive to report. It was a decent burger and satisfied my cravings for sure. The beer-battered onion rings were okay too. Nothing special and I don't think I was expecting anything out of this world either. Most beer-battered onion rings taste the same, so it's good that it's a familiar flavor to recognize. Value: My taco salad was $14.95CAD, my burger was $10.95CAD and my onion rings were $4.95CAD. This is a GREAT DEAL on the amount of food I had for sure. Looking for a cheap date, something quick, nothing fancy, I dig this place for sure.

The staff also explained that they were able to provide gluten free options for some other items on the menu, but you could only order certain sauces for the chicken, not all were gluten free. We were very satisfied with our experience, and we received great service. They have a nice beer and cocktail variety, and several in our group enjoyed their sangria. The food was well prepared and everything came out at the same time, always a plus for a larger party. As far as the fried chicken, I found the crust to be extremely crispy but otherwise tasty. The bourbon BBQ sauce (one of the ones that contains gluten) was really strong. I do have one beef - their "side" of cole slaw came in the world's smallest dish; I got maybe 2 small forkfuls of slaw out of it, and it was gone. Bird Bar is a little off the beaten path (translation: a bit of a walk to the Metro), but I'd definitely come back on future visits to Montreal.
