I love the fact that they have a therapy pool. It is absolutely warm and for those who I have issues like bad hips, shoulders, backs, attitudes, and such, it makes a huge difference as to how you feel when you first get in. It's not a pool to do real laps, although some people attempt. Treading water, using water weights, walking around or running in place, and things like that work well in this pool. It has enough chlorine in to keep you safe but otherwise the facility could use a bit more deep cleaning and upkeep. With those of us that feel like it is a necessary place for us to be have no complaints. It's been a fantastic place to meet people and actually make some new acquaintances and friends. I've been coming here for a very long time. It was different pre-Covid because you had more hours to come. I missed that. Wade Zinn is the owner and he is my physical therapist. I use this pool for my aquatherapy in order to prepare for my upcoming for my hip replacement. But like I said, I have been coming for years prior to my hip issue and I'll be coming for as long as he keeps this pool open. His sauna is great. I don't think he'll ever open the whirlpool again. It's been closed for - well - since forever. I don't use the other equipment so I have no idea how to evaluate the workout machines. And this small therapeutic pool is not for everyone but I can attest to those of us that come regularly are very appreciative that is here. read more

This is an off place. I had high hopes for it given it is just down the street from me. Looking through the windows, it does have quite an extensive set of weights and machines to get a decent workout. Once you get inside, you see the machines seem older, worn and rusty. There was no energy inside. There were a few other people working out and not to sound ageist but I think all six people I saw were 70 or older. The hours are also an issue. Basically they only open 4 days with very limited hours. It makes me think they are not really catering to the working crowd. I'm sad because the place has a lot of potential. read more

Wade Zinn is an unapproachable person. Every time I spoke with him, he has always had a holyer than thou type attitude. At one point i mentioned to one of the front desk guys that I would have to cancel my membership if the pool wasn't cleaned. I received a phone call from him about 10 minutes later saying he talked to wade, and they would clean it by the end of the week, so I renewed my account. Not only was it not cleaned by the end of the week, it was not cleaned within the subsequent month so I canceled my membership. It's a shame that I don't have another option for a gym/pool except the Y which is too far away. Other than that most machines are dilapidated or not functioning properly, and I find it strange that I moved away for 5 years, then moved back a few months ago, and they still have all the same machines. I don't notice anything new about the gym except that the vacant juice bar has now become a graveyard for broken equipment and other garbage. The fact that they also charge an extra fee on the racquetball courts over the already high membership rate ridiculous. My final remark is simply this. SIMPLE GREEN IS NOT A DISINFECTANT!!!!!! I know, five stars...it might be a bit much. However, I've been to quite a few gyms in my time, including some university rec centers, a Seattle gayfest, and the tiny gross house someone shoved a few machines in (that was my law school gym). I just like going to Poulsbo Athletic Club. Everyone's friendly, it's big enough to have everything you want, and they have an array of good classes. Stephen has been kicking my ass at kickboxing twice a week, and I've been befriending suburban moms right and left. There's a small pool, a sauna, a jacuzzi, etc. Plus you get a discount for working for the Navy, which I do...woohoo. read more

Someone walked in past the security guy at the counter and went up into the locker room and busted open several lockers that had been locked with padlocks. They got my wallet -- as well as a few other member's wallets -- and went on a spending spree within minutes of leaving the gym. I'm left wondering how they got past the guy at the security desk? Shouldn't everyone have to scan a membership key to get in? I do. Apparently, others don't have to do that -- the folks with lock cutters in their gym bags. Or it just might be that they're not paying much attention to who comes in through the front door. When I talked with the owner of the club, he seemed unphased about it. He says it's happened before and they apparently have no policy to prevent it from happening again. (Other than posting a sign in the locker room that suggest using a lock -- which I did). Quite a few of the treadmills are broken -- some have signs warning that they're broken, while others just don't work or the belts slip. This combined with the lax security put PAC in a sorry state. Remember how I said I hate to give a great review? Well I think I was in the excited honeymoon period and now one year later I am saddened by this facility and really wish there was something better. If 24 hour fitness wasn't so packed and had better quality equipment I would run there without looking back. Where do I start? The equipment - The Ellipticals - of 8 ellipticals 3 are not working properly one has had broken handles since I started a year ago the other two squeak loudly. The recumbent bikes - ONE of the four works at all times. The other three are consistently broken. Only one has foot straps. The Rowing Machines - one is broken all the time. Sometimes one is removed but it's just brought back and breaks. Spinning bikes - the ones downstairs were broken for over 6 months when asking the staff about them they just said parts were on order but had no other info. Treadmills - 10 of them. At least one is always down if not more. But usually they stop working while you are mid run or they won't hold the incline. The pool - is NOT a full sized pool. Is super small and is shut down unannounced every couple months. Weight room - is so crowded with equipment it's really not user friendly at all nor are the people friendly. Usually kids hanging out. TVs- most the TV hookups don't work at all. Classes - I stopped going to classes when I was in better shape than the instructors. The stair climbers - hey there are two and they have always worked. Fans, doors, bathrooms - broken, broken, and not clean. There is NO tour when you start. No monthly email to members saying this is what's going on. Pool is closed, new class schedule, Just a whole lot of things taped to the door or written on a blackboard. (That I don't have time to read) or you have to stand at an empty desk and wait for someone to help you OR in line. The most annoying thing is the gym is open until 10 (on week nights) but at 8:15 every night they will start vacuuming or mopping while I'm still working out. This makes me feel uncomfortable. I feel like I'm unwelcome at this point. The foot pads on the machines and the machines themselves really need TLC but don't get it and I wonder who is the ringleader to this circus?? I would like to see some upkeep. Remodel the empty space they had there for a kitchen, better instructors, emails to members, staffing who cares, new equipment!!! I would give this 4.5 stars if it let me, but not one to exaggerate, I left my rating at 4 stars. This is not the newest or fanciest gym, but it has the basics I need, good location, and has an easy-going vibe which is great for someone like me who is a little self-concious about working out. The staff is friendly and helpful, although they do seem a little understaffed at times. I have never had to wait for equipment, even a treadmill during afternoon rush hours . I like the separate weight room, which is never crowded, and there are often other women also lifting weights when I am in there so I feel less intimidated. There are plenty of free weights as well as machines, and although I wish there was a bit more floor space to work on, I can get all my exercises done. I love the zumba class here, its got great energy and the instructors are fun and nice. It even gets me to the gym on friday nights, which means its competing directly with beer, so that should say something. read more

Huge facility with decent enough hours on the week days, but I wish they were open for longer on weekends. It seems that at least two treadmills are usually in some state of disrepair, but there are plenty of machines otherwise. Class schedule has lots to offer, but can be tough for those working a 9/5. First of all, I'm a lazy sloth. And yes, I know that sloths are lazy so please imagine an especially lazy sloth that occasionally works out... If they dropped monthly prices a little bit PAC would definitely be 4 stars... maybe I'm just bitter because I go like once a week (if that)... PAC has a pool, great selection of cardio, nice class schedule (although I haven't partaken), and a huge selection of everything one would need to work out. I guess I don't really know what one needs to work out since I'm one of those lame people that will do about 10 minutes of weight lifting and 5 minutes of cardio and call it a day... Their staff have developed a no-pressure attitude when signing up new members. Nothing is worse than a pushy, persistent employee trying to steal your money and pressure you into a membership. I applaud PAC for this route... however, as a prospective member I would have appreciated a tour. Instead, they told me to feel free to walk around. I can't express how happy I was to not be pressured but the lack of attention was almost irritating. The place is clean, good location, and has a great array of equipment. For $50 a month it seems pretty pricey, but for now I'll pay since I've been happy and it's the only gym in like 10 square miles. read more

The good - they have a daycare that is $3 per visit, no time limit. I was surprised to find out when I dropped my son off that I actually know the ladies that work there, they are great women. The thing I don't like about the child care center is there is a tv in there, I don't really like my son watching too much tv and i don't know what they are showing in there, I also never asked though since I only took him there once. The bad - Yikes. A lot. Right off the bat, the desk staff are either incompetent or rude, except for one young lady with long dark hair, not sure what her name is, but she was great. The other girls never smile and I feel like I'm inconveniencing them by walking in so they have to look up from the computer. A desk guy couldn't answer any of my questions and one night instead of manning the front desk was working out with his friend. Like another reviewer said, they start cleaning well before closing. I was the only person in the room and that huge room, she starts vacuuming right behind me, I couldn't hear the show I was watching. Rude. I'm sure she was trying to get me to leave so they could get out of there but I stayed right until closing. Like others have said, the machines are a joke, old and busted. All of the book/ipad stands on the treadmills are busted off and two of the treadmills were broken and still haven't been fixed. The membership fees are so high that just one person's annual fees can buy a new machine but I guess the owner doesn't want to make the investment to keep members. The worst thing (at least to me) is they have bottles of Simple Green out ON THE FLOOR for members to wipe down machines after use. That is what we used to clean the deck on our sailboat, it is NOT a disinfectant. Also, they leave one nasty rag sitting on top of each bottle all day so you're just spreading the germs from machine to machine. I got a paper towel from the bathroom instead and cleaned before and after use. A lot of the people that workout there are 60+ and it kinda broke my heart to see them struggling to bend down to pick the bottles up off the floor. How hard would it be to put a little metal rack on the wall so people don't have to bend over? There is more bad stuff, but I'll leave it at that. Go somewhere else. I hope the owner takes these reviews seriously and makes some changes. It used to be the only gym around while I was growing up, but now that they have competition they need to keep up so people stick around. I cancelled my membership after one month. read more

After the long-ago demise of Bay View Fitness (a.k.a. the gym that got me into going to the gym), Poulsbo Athletic Club became my go-to whenever I visit the fam and don't feel like running outside. It's not the most spectacular fitness facility in the world, or even the Seattle area, but it's easily the best option in Poulsbo. I have seen many a locker room in my day, and the locker room here is one of the cleanest I have ever encountered. The main cardio floor (my primary haunt) has all your standard equipment, though some of it the treadmills and ellipticals are pretty outdated. Towels and sanitizer spray bottles are always well-stocked. I really like that the free-weight area is completely separated from the cardio room, because I tend to dislike weights and most of the patrons who like to use them. Allegedly, there are raquetball courts and a pool somewhere in the building, but I have neither looked for them nor can I confirm their existence. Also worth mentioning, there is an on-site physical therapy clinic, which I have also used. Dr. Zinn treated my gimpy hip years and years ago, and he still remembers me every time I bump into him. This is a terrific Health Club. The equipment chosen for the weight room is of the very best quality and chosen by someone who really knows what it takes to keep people in top physical condition throughout their lives. I have been a member for several years now and really love being part of a privately owned Community facility. The physical therapists are the ones that other physical therapists recommend seeing when you have a special problem. The entire staff is first class from top to bottom which makes it a really Pleasant place to spend a morning or afternoon or evening. read more

I've been a disabled, post-operative (neck, back) Silver Sneakers member for over 10 years -- along with my wife -- & this club/facility has been instrumental to my long fight to recover adequately from those major surgeries. I hate to say that the pool is wonderful & warm most of the time, because I don't want to encourage more people to be there when we're there! Sorry, but we like pretending that it's our personal pool occasionally when we're the only one's there! The pool there is just as warm as the pool at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, & if you're familiar with that pool, then it's a great comparison! We also love using the hot tub/jacuzzi after putting in our pool time with our rehab exercises, which were taught to us by the PT staff there. Zinn's PT operation is wonderful, & staffed with knowledgeable professionals who were wonderful to work with. Wade Zinn has been great, in both of his roles as club owner, as well as the head of their PT program.... he's always very approachable & has advised me well on my difficulties long after he was able to collect an insurance co-pay for administering physical therapies for me. He's a very thoughtful man who has always showed us the kindness we expect from a health care provider. Our use of the equipment on the main floor has always been good.... of course with heavy use you're going to get a machine that's out of 'whack' occasionally, but there are lots of pieces of equipment & we've never had to wait very long to get on a bike or treadmill or other piece of generally well-kept exercise equipment. So I do recommend P.A.C. as a good 'athletic' club facility -- there's a lot of things they offer to younger people that look good to us, if we were capable of doing more of those things at this point in our lives, but the club also has a broad appeal to seniors like ourselves, who are looking for a well-kept home for their ongoing health & exercise needs, not to mention their physical therapy needs. And the young staff there is always friendly & helpful, which is very nice! My advice to another poster here is to never leave your wallet in what is essentially a 'public' locker, even if you temporarily have your own lock on it.... none of us are exempt from the ravages of crime, but we can take reasonable steps to protect ourselves from theft, if we will just think twice about what we're doing. I wouldn't blame the club for my OWN lack of security & common sense! The front desk is more of a 'greeting' place than a hard-core 'security' stop-point. The young staff are not uniformed security guards, or plain-clothed guards, either. However, we do scan-in our cards on each visit. It's more likely that the wallet theft noted by the other member was a team effort, & that the thief had help from someone who did scan-in earlier, & then let their thief-buddy in through another outside door, & that the thief did not really just stroll-in through the front door & somehow evade having to check-in. Everyone has to check-in there, & the people who staff the front do take notice when someone just forgets to scan-in.... I've seen them remind some folks on occasion, over more than 10 years of scanning-in. So all-told, we feel very fortunate to have this club here in Poulsbo. read more

I also like that there's a pool, hot tub, and you can get massages, etc. Have never used raquetball court, and seldom use the weight room, but lots of other people do. Everything is very clean. Never have I ever felt so violated and unwelcome at any kind of business establishment. Wade, the owner, feels the need to pull people aside to invade their personal business. He brought my name up in convo to another guest, intertwining myself into this other guest's personal divorce situation. I was pointed at and accused of things I have absolutely nothing to do with. Have been a loyal customer there for over 2 years and this is the last thing i expected to happen at such a family oriented gym. I am hurt, insulted, & disappointed and will NEVER go back. Not to mention the equipment is old and always broken. Front desk manager is rude and unwelcoming. Do not go to this gym, I would recommend the Silverdale YMCA or Poulsbo's Snap Fitness. I don't even want to waste time going into all the details of why this place is awful. I tried the 1 week trial membership which started by asking the front desk person for a tour, and he promptly told me no one was around to do that and I should just walk around by myself. The whole place is suffocating, a series of small rooms for each set of equipment (cardio, weights, group fitness rooms) The locker room was smelly, yes its a locker room, but female locker rooms don't usually smell as rotten as this one. I love to spin and wanted to run away screaming when I saw the sorry excuse for cycles this place had. The reebok cycles looked 100 years old and even the instructor had a hard time helping me adjust the setting so I had to move to a different bike. The instructor was boring, horrible music with no beat and she read from an index card instructing us to do the same series of moves in "three". When I left and saw the price list for membership, I truly can not believe members pay that much money for such a crappy gym. read more

We were members for a few years and had to quit. The spin bikes were so old and kept breaking down, the treadmill belts kept slipping making it very dangerous. I brought up the treadmill belt issue several times and they never fixed them. I had to stop using the treadmills because it was making my knee hurt from slipping. The prices are way to much for a gym and owner that doesn't spend any money on new equipment. We chose to go to another local-owned gym in Silverdale and are happy to make the 20 minute drive for a fitness club that is much nicer and has better equipment! read more

This club has potential BUT too many of their aerobic machines are either out of order or in bad shape. Majority of equipment is outdated and overworked. It is very frustrating to go to the gym during a busy period, I can understand waiting when machines are in use but not being able to work out because four machines are out of order and have been for at least two to three weeks. Invest some of the membership money in updating your equipment or better yet keep up to date and lease your machines. read more

The facilities are nice and the general attitude of the place is easy going and welcoming. My only problem is with the owner, who leads some of the spin classes. I've seen him become so freaky with members who have the audacity to sweat, it's uncomfortable. He snaps at them for sweating too much on the machine, telling them to bring "extra towels if (they're) going to sweat so much. Dude--If people are willing to clean up their own mess you should just chill the f**k out. read more

Three lights went out in one of the racquetball courts over THREE YEARS AGO creating a dangerous low light condition. Around that time Wade Zinn put up a sign that the lights would be fixed within the month. They are still out plus a fourth one is now out. The men's sauna has NEVER been cleaned, has rotten wood and copious amounts of mineral buildup from over a decade of human sweat. I took pictures and forwarded to the county and state health departments along with pictures of BLACK MOLD in the men's shower. (A friend of mine took a sample and had it analyzed as BLACK MOLD.) The county and state health departments did nothing other than call and forward my findings to Wade Zinn. I confronted Wade Zinn about the sauna and mold and he got angry and defensive using blatant language. He finally said he'd fix the men's sauna. This was last February. Last labor day weekend he put up a sign saying the sauna would be fixed in a couple of weeks by replacing all the rotten wood and metal screws that are sticking up above the wood that burn when you sit on them. STILL NOT FIXED! All other gyms I've been into pay to have decent commercial-free music. At the Poulsbo Athletic Club you are forced to listen to this horrible scratchy pop music FM station with 20-minute blocks of radio advertising. Wade Zinn is too cheap to provide an antenna. WADE ZINN IS COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE, HAS NO INTEGRITY TO KEEP HIS WORD, EVEN WHEN IT'S IN WRITING, AND CHEAP AS HELL. read more
