If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I definitely will. Mr.Gibson and Ms.Deborah are incredibly polite, kind and so very professional! The entire team is awesome but Ms.Deborah and Mr.Gibson are the ones I've dealt with directly, so I can say this with authenticity! I tried testing another program in Harlem (MMA Kids Fight back) and what a world of difference in how they treat people! I called MMA to see if they offer free trials to prospective students (my son is 5) and the person who picked up claiming to be the "Master" of the studio replied "that parents need to be committed and that he's been doing this for 30yrs, so is pretty sure he's good" My unspoken reaction was like "no way in hell my child is learning from someone so devoid of basic manners"! Ms.Deborah and Mr.Gibson were the complete opposite, even though they've got a lot to boast about. In any case, I made my decision based on the strong value alignment in addition to entrusting my child with a reputable institution. Ms. Deborah is such a humble, strong, kind, and lovely human being! The customer service desk at the West Harlem studio was packed when I came in yet she never lost her cool and took her time to explain everything to everyone with inquiries and treated everyone with respect and kindness. She's a rock star and I am so very proud to be associated with Pouncing Tigers. I can't recommend them enough!!! read more

Note: I had an encounter with this business's representative, but have not attended classes there. I was at Magic Johnson theater today with my 4 year old daughter. A young gentleman and lady had a table set up with a spin wheel for some kind of deal for 2 weeks of free classes. My daughter has taken karate and liked it and saw how excited the other kids were when we got there about spinning the wheel. After the movie on our way out I inquired about how old the kids had to be to take a class (5). My daughter is 5 at the end of July, so not yet eligible. I asked if she could spin the wheel "just for fun" (she was begging to!) and the gentleman said "no. That's not how this works". Come on! This wheel is getting spun 10 times an hour and there was no one else even there talking to him! He then proceeded to try to give me a brochure...HA! Oook. I think Pouncing Tigers needs to look into their representative's kid-friendly approach. I was very turned off by this encounter. read more

My son and I absolutely love Pouncing Tigers. We feel at home being there. Oftentimes I use the opening and closing creed to correct my so who is now 7 and has been there since he turned 3. Not only does Mr Gibson teaches Martial Arts, but he'll have us set goals, make sure that the kids are doing well in school, teach us about the internal organs and their functions, gives us word of the week and famous quotes from former Presidents and Civil right leaders. What I really love also is that every child that comes in for their trial has to learn the 5 words of respect. I love the workout. I was tired/bored of going to the gym and lifting weights. This gave me a chance to do something different and fun. The kickboxing class is a great work out and everyone is super nice. I will definetly be continue to attend - Ken makes it fun and interesting every time. I was super excited when i purchased a Groupon deal for my beloved nephew for martial arts. I thought it may have been too good to be true since there wasn't 1 review for this place. I took the risk and purchased it! Sure enough I called and the Instructor of the class Mr.Ken Gibson, he was of absolute help and super kind. My Nephew's first class went like a breeze. Fantastic class options in a great facility. The workouts leave you feeling pumped! Ken (owner) is knowledgeable, friendly and responsive. As the kickboxing instructor he will break down each move so that you not only do it right, you also limit your chance of injury. I'm taking the 30 day Yin/Yang challenge and while the start time to class can be a bit daunting in the beginning (6am), it proves to be worth the commitment. I have been coming here for kickboxing for almost a year now, then decided to take Hapkido (Korean martial arts). For someone who have wanted to take martial arts lessons for a while and grew up watching fair share for martial arts movies, this is the place to be. There is strong emphasis on not just self-defense but also on safety and proper application of the techniques and the core values of martial arts. If you want to learn new techniques with practical application and would like to get stronger, all the while having a blast, I would recommend the Hapkido classes (it does follow a belt system so regular attendance is recommended). Mr Gibson, the head instructor, along with Alex, Jahmel, Sara, and Rich runs an amazing operation and makes the learning more fun and inclusive. read more

Best mix of serious workout and fun! The instructors are super friendly and professional. I am taking kickboxing classes and it's the best workout I ever had. Since I have a herniated disk I was a bit cautious at first, but I got some great advice from Ken (instructor of kickbox and I think also founder of the place) and now my back feels healthier than ever. This review is for the Pouncing Tigers on 105 and second. My little girl has Aspergers and shes 11. Being a autism parent is frustrating to find a place that can be best suitable for kids like her. I found this place and we did a trial and loved it. TEARS IN MY EYES THAT I FOUND A PLACE! I IMMEDIATELY SIGNED UP!! I don't remember the names but it was a puertorican guy with cesar cut really charming and sweet and took his time with her and another spanish guy with glasses that was great!. Both sweethearts. So we did a 6month trial thinking it was only going to be these TWO! One day we went to class and it was a black guy with glasses and he was being really funny with my kid. He was dissing her making her feel bad for coordinating simple tasks and having other kids laugh at her. He would wail his hands in the air in disagreement that she could not complete a simple task. Kids would laugh and whisper bad things. She hears it!!! My kid does not look Autistic so you can't tell. My little girl picked up on being picked on and wouldn't go back. We went one day and he was there and she turned back around. 6months for 720$ for nothing. It's sad. It would be great without him. The other 2 guys were wonderful. You can't teach kids by dissing them and making them feel bad for not kicking or standing the right way! ITS A BEGINNER CLASS! Thats how kids fucking commit suicide. Bullying them. read more

Are you ready for a new, challenging workout that doesn't involve mindless machines at a gym? Then your best bet is to try at least one kickboxing class at this place. I began steadily taking classes here in January and I was hooked from the start. I've taken classes with Ken, Alex, and Daniel and each instructor has their own unique way of teaching. I'm never disappointed. I've built stamina and skill in a short period of time. My confidence has increased and even on those days when I'm exhausted, these kickboxing classes have a way of getting me pumped. Expect to throw punches, kicks, work on your abs, and perform calisthenics. Expect to be sore (if not immediately, then the next day). And even when you're sore, expect to look forward to going back over and over again. This is a great place for those new to kickboxing and those who have been doing it for years. My son, wife and I love this School. The staff are amazing and I say it with great Pride. From Mr. Gibson, Mr. Chris to Mr. Anthony ( sorry guys to many to mention ) are all wonderful people. My son Matthew has been in the East Side School from the day they opened and loves it. Men Anthony is an amazing instructor and takes pride in teaching all the children and is also extremely patient with the students. I've been coming to Pouncing Tigers for adult kickboxing classes for nearly a year. Even though I had a regular gym workout regimen before, my cardio has improved tremendously from these kickboxing classes, and I've learned a lot of great exercises that I now take to the gym. The teachers, without exception, are friendly and knowledgeable, and foster a positive and motivating environment to train in. My son has been going for a little over a semester, and he loves it. Mr. Gibson is a great teacher - firm but also kind. There are always a lot of young black belt co-teachers, too, so the kids get plenty of attention and have someone to look up to. This place is a GEM! I bought the Groupon last November in 2012 for the 3 month unlimited kickboxing and yoga deal. I redeemed the deal in Jan of 2013 and have been going just about every week. Not only do you get an amazing workout from the instructors but you also get to meet new people. I've enjoyed the relationships that I have made and I look forward to going to the classes. Ken and Daniel create such a welcoming environment with the Kickboxing class that you don't mind that they push you as hard as they do. I couldn't do push ups when I first started the class and now I can. I have seen my body go through so many transformations. Also, CJ is an AMAZING yoga instructor. Take her class on Wednesday. I was referred by my boyfriend who went here for Yoga. I went to HHC for the first time today to try out there new Kickboxing classes. I'm so happy I did! The instructor is extremely kind, knowledgable and informative. He's also VERY patient and has a black belt in EVERYTHING. The facility IS small but extremely clean and well maintained. Don't look for pampering here in regards to changing rooms, blow dryers or towels. You come dressed to sweat and leave. 12 dollars for walk ins and 60 dollars for one hour classes three times a week. Get in now because as I was leaving, a bunch of people were coming in. So this little secret will soon be out and about. You will BURN, FIRM and NOT be disappointed. read more

I bought a 10-class package, and have attended four classes so far, with Jahmel, Alex, and Rich. I'm HOOKED. All instructors are kind, patient, and respectful. I'm particularly grateful to Jahmel for his patience and energy. I have two hernias in my neck and while I thought I would probably quit after the first class, he made sure to give me options so I don't hurt my neck even more. I'm never quitting now! I'm not a strong person (yet), but I feel great about myself (and sore!) after every class. I have been practicing yoga and swimming for a while (not a pro!), but this is now my favorite kind of exercise. I would like to add that, while my body is getting stronger, so is my mind. I feel much more "safe" in my own body, and my anxiety levels have significantly decreased. Highly recommend this for all the women out there who want to feel more in control of their bodies and mind. This place is a gem! read more

When I first purchased this Groupon for my son who is 8 years old, I just thought it would just be another class that he can find interesting for a while and then call it quits.... To be honest, my SON LOVES THIS... that fact that his Instructors are so great with him and the other students, I find it to be very pleasing. They (Mr. Gibson, Mr. Daniel and Mr. Michael) are excellent with kids. They have patience, they take their times to teach them not only martial arts but also educate them academically about foods etc., that can be a danger/unhealthy for them but "good for the enemy"... :-) My son is a chubby kid. The fact that he attends martial arts 2 to 3 times a week, this has not only helped him to lose weight but he has learned that drinking water is something that is a must, he's become reluctant to having junk food. He easily says no to junk food and would rather have a healthier snack. He enjoys it! He has fun and he comes home and we practice. I love attending the classes with him. To see how much he grows every class, its exciting. Its pleasing to have something else to share with my son. I have had a similar training in self-defense, so I am able to help him understand the fact that you must always control your balance, never give the enemy leverage to take advantage of you if you stumble. Balance, posture and control leads to one thing SAFETY! So I hope that my review has answered many questions and/or convinced you to have yourself or your child join. I've never been one to enjoy working out, but I love going to the adult kickboxing classes here. Only Ken and Alex could get me out of bed to attend a 630AM kickboxing class! The instructors are very friendly and personable. They offer both advanced and beginner level classes. If you are just starting out, I'd highly recommend attending Ken's beginner classes on Saturdays (at noon). He is really great about breaking down the technique for beginners, as well as providing a good workout. If you already have the technique down, the advanced classes provide a great workout. read more
