This is like everything you've ever wanted from an Asian restaurant, including healthy-ish options (salad!) but also really yummy comfort food and indulgence, all vegan and plant based. Having tried 4 different items, I can say without hesitation that the K-town BBQ is hands down my favorite. Also my hubby's fave as well. If you're really into reubens the egg roll is awesome. It's huge though so either share it with someone or expect to not be able to finish your other food The katsu was okay, not nearly as yummy as K-town, and the general tso's was pretty good, closer to K-town in yumminess. Yummy! I came in with a friend and the cashier was immediately super friendly and welcoming in offering information and recommendations when we said it was our first time there! I got the Wu-Banger which was flavorful and yummy! The Pow-Tine fries were rather underwhelming though in comparison, but my friend liked her fries I think! She got the Trolley Fries, and also the Yoga Dragon. It can be pricey at about $17-20 at the single or regular size entree + a starter, but the portions are definitely enough for a second meal, and both of us brought leftovers after! I love the fake meats and interesting sauces and flavors - truly a unique take on some classic flavors and concepts. I decided to order here since they were offering bubbies burgers on mondays. I ordered online and selected for curbside pick up. I was instructed my food would be ready at 12:45. I got there at 12:50 and called them to let them know I was outside as instructed in their confirm email but I was then told they basically didn't know I ordered so I would need to come inside to pick up in another 5 mins. I then walked up but there door was blocked. Another man was waiting there and had been for about 10 mins and he said no one had acknowledged him for his pick up. After about 5 mins they finally came to ask us our names for pick up and then had us waiting outside for another 10 mins. No apologies or anything. Besides the mediocre service, the food was pretty good. The buffalo chicken sandwich from bubbies was very tasty and I also got the Brussels from powpow. When we arrived here and looked at the menu, we were shocked when the cashier told us that everything on the menu was vegan. Everything?? Yes, everything. We ordered a few items including the disco stick , firecracker fingers, trolley fries, Taiwanese fried croquettes and general chicken bowl. My favorites were the firecracker fingers and the trolley fries and I've heard great things about the Natalie Porkman and intend to try that the next time I eat here. The sauce on the firecracker fingers was delicious and the fingers themselves were nice and crunchy. The fries were amazing and I wasn't prepared for the deliciousness of those flavors together. The general chicken bowl was good but had a little too much rice and lettuce in contrast to the other items in the bowl. The disco stick didn't have much flavor to me and neither did the croquettes mozzarella. All in all I can't wait to eat here again read more

Ran into the DJ who also runs Pow Pow. The hardworking lad works there and still DJs at night. We had the yoga dragon and tokyo roboto. The yoga dragon has mock chicken with a zesty peanut sauce the mock chicken was very tasty together with the healthy rice, beans and salad. The tokyo roboto was also tasty. I went back to Pow Pow recently and I'm still crazy impressed with the quality of their vegan options. This is amazing fast-casual style Asian vegan food. We got the General Tso's chick'n and it was amazing. One thing though -- we waited almost 30 minutes for our food. It looks and feels like a fast-casual (not to mention, pretty cheap) but there were only two people working for a restaurant full of people. It seems like this place is always under-staffed and really needs more people on the clock during busy times. By the time I got my food, the fries were cold :( The food is really good and I would go here all the time if it wasn't such a long wait. read more

I am not vegan but this place does a great job creating vegan chicken and pork dishes that could delightfully fool the casual customer. This place is located right across the street from local favorite --Toki Underground -- ans is a fast casual establishment with a variety of permanent and seasonal dishes. I recommend this place after hitting up happy hour in the H Street Corridor or when looking for a quick bite on a Saturday afternoon. Tip: look out for the dishes with rice crispies. The Trolley Fries (vegan!) are addictive, impossibly delicious. The Pow Tine (Poutine) Fries (vegan!) are a rich umami experience of immense flavor. It's really difficult to not just eat french fries for dinner, so that's what I do. Now it's just really difficult to decide which fries to get, but I've found that the correct order to eat them if you order both (and your goal is to enjoy both) is first Trolley, then Poutine, because the Poutine is just so satisfying it's a complete meal on its own. My 5yo claimed that the bowls were all a bit too spicy for him but we all loved it (and the 5yo loved the kids' General Tso-- vegan, of course). He also eviscerated the Taiwanese Fried Mozzarella (vegan!) before anyone else could get more than a taste-- I think it's just the Korean ketchup that's too spicy for him-- they are unreal. Delicious!! My favorite bowl is the Natalie Porkman (vegan!). I love that there are vegan subs for everything... and the whole menu is going to be plant-based as of 5/1/18. This is such a great and necessary addition to the DC vegan scene. Editing to add: whoever thought to put a banana and Nutella (vegan?) inside an egg roll is an evil genius. Even though my initial review was already 5-stars, I felt it was time to review again. By now, I am a true Pow Pow stan! The service is good, the restaurant is clean, the vegan options are plentiful, and they deliver! They have been so creative in making vegan options that aren't just "good for a vegan version", but truly tasty. I highly recommend this place to omnivores, vegan, and vegetarians alike. The Natalie Porkman is my favorite bowl-- fried seitan pork and a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavors. Don't overlook the special menu or starters though. The vegan k-town mozzarella balls are currently on my list of Favorite Foods. Creamy, gooey, cashew-based mozzarella is stuffed into perfectly crunchy bread balls and drizzled in k-town sauce and topped with sesame seeds. Who knew mozzarella sticks could be transformed to this? K-town sauce was seriously meant for this job. What's K-town sauce you ask? Its a sweet and spicy twist on ketchup (but don't think ketchup). Next up: The Yule Log. It's a holiday eggroll for which I have been trying to think of an argument to convince the owners to keep on the menu year-round. They're stuffed with mock-fried turkey, mashed potatoes, and pinapple kimchi & served up with cranberry sauce and gravy. Fried food, potatoes, sweet & savory convergence *drools*. Try one before they're gone. Trust me! You're welcome. Vegan feta has also made its way to the menu, making the vegan bowl options even better and the sriracha roasted nuts will throw a party in your mouth. This was my first time coming to Pow Pow and it certainly won't be my last. The General bowl was delicious, its very balanced with half rice/half lettuce as the base and also the fried plant based chicken and broccoli were a perfect combo. They have two bowl sizes the single serving and the regular, i got the single serving and it was a lot of food (but I'm not complaining). The fries were also amazingggg!!!! There was so much flavor in everything. I also thought the prices were very reasonable and cheap for what you get. Pow Pow is a restaurant with a stop and go feel. They cater to the vegan cravings with an innovative take on takeout Chinese food. While the food is good and the flavor combinations creative, the service I received today will not have me coming back. To the woman behind the counter with the bright red magenta colored hair THIS IS FOR YOU. Working in customer service myself I can understand how a bad mood can turn into a bad day but none of that has shit to do with me or ANY customer that comes into an establishment to give their hard earned money ($100 tab just on food alone). She was aggressive with her responses to simple things making us feel like a bother for asking for utensils and assistance. She made a big deal about changing a fountain drink to a different flavor even though the price is the exact same and even comes from the same fountain...She had a panic attack over me trying to get my own drink stating that I could not be in that section even though it wasn't blocked off, there were no signs, and instead of simply informing me I was moved away by her and a white man with a physical cart to separate me from the fountain drinks. Overall upon entering I was excited to get some good takeout with my Dad and my girlfriend and overall left with the feeling that we are not simply people trying to get food but dollar signs for a place that needs to seriously work on their customer service. read more

The sweet and sour sauce was great. Even the rice and quinoa mixture was flavourful; a bit salty and smoky. The service was friendly and fairly quick, and there was plenty of seating, including booths, high stools and stools looking out on H street. At first I thought the Purity Bowl was a little boring compared to the Natalie Porkman, but then I came to like the more subtle flavours of the roasted sweet potato wedges and the beans (black beans and edamame). There are some interesting Maine Root sodas available too. I think that every item on the menu could be made vegetarian. read more

We're 4 vegans and 2 vegan-adjacent eaters, and very experienced at eating. Even though we were literally the last customers on a very busy Saturday night, the food was absolutely delicious, fresh, and well-packaged for takeout. Several dishes didn't exactly "translate", but the Powpow interpretation was still flavorful and satisfying. For example "General's Chick'n" wasn't as spicy as even a mild General Tsao's but we still loved it. Really excellent items: dumplings, wonton soup (also different but very good), Natalie porkman (wow!). Definitely get a "Disco Stick Giant Egg Roll" to share (and a knife!); it's massively delicious! Didn't love: Tom kha soup (I love spicy but this was over-the-top too spicy), fortune cookies (I paid for them but they didn't include them). I decided to try Pow Pow after seeing it on the Yelp's Hot & New tab and it is also close to my main office. Staff/Ambiance I walked in and it reminded me of a "District Taco" type feel. Order food, see it made through the glass on the side, and wait to pick it up that is. The staff were very polite and knowledgeable of the menu. With that said I took they're suggestions and tried both the "Caesar" salad and "steak & cheese" egg rolls [forgive me I forgot the names]. Food The Caesar salad was average at best. The capers really threw the flavors off and I will most definitely not get them the next time. Or maybe less of them. But the chicken was very, very good and seasoned well! There were not enough pieces though. Also, it comes with these fried Parmesan type crisps on them. Very good! The egg rolls were HUGE. They are like egg rolls on steroids. This probably was my fav. It comes with a remoulade but for some reason I felt like I needed soy sauce too. Overall I think this was a great find for a first try. I cannot honestly say if I'll be back or not. There was nothing that really wow'd me but don't let me deter you away from here. Maybe there are other things on the menu with the wowzers effect. read more

It was a generous portion for a single. From what I remember, it came with the 'chicken', rice, salad, tomatoes and broccoli. It was delicious and seasoned very well.
