Delicious sushi spot in Union Market area. We ate on the rooftop, which I highly recommend if the weather is right, although the inside decor looked super nice and chic as well. Loved the sushi and edamame with truffle. The crispy rice was to die for! Service could have been a bit better, we kept having to ask for water and get attention to order more. Excited to go back and try more!

This place has such a wonderful atmosphere -- it's quickly become one of my favorite spots. The food is reliably great every time I visit, and since it's just a short walk from home, it's become my go-to. The customer service is top-notch. Everyone I've encountered has been fantastic, but Q deserves a special shoutout for consistently going above and beyond to make sure every guest feels well taken care of.

We came here for Valentine's Day. Managed to snag a reservation for 5 PM, right when they open, at the sushi bar. The staff were all absolutely lovely. And we even got a cute little Valentines gift. I can't say enough nice things about our server - she was so great. Sitting at the sushi bar was neat as we got to see everything being made. We also got to try some complimentary bites. Great experience! The cocktails were crazy good. Everything we ordered was delicious. The salmon usuzukuri was so good we ordered it twice. The Kobe baller was another standout. The scallops were also fantastic. Such a yummy meal! Highly recommend! We will definitely be back.

O-Ku is well worth a visit if you're in the mood for high-end sushi, upscale ambiance, and attentive staff. The dining area / sushi bar has low lighting, modern and quiet enough to hear your companion. making it a great spot for night out in the Union Market Area or anytime you want elevated sushi experiences. The food was melt in your mouth fish, had spice complexity , and the everything was absolutely delightful. With portions that are small...we ended up ordering quite a bit more than expected. It's definitely on the pricey side and you wont be disappointed. If you are into Japanese whisky pairing, this is the menu for you with upscale selections. The wait staff are "nerdily intelligent" about everything on the menu, which I appreciated and made my selections easier. Make reservations, follow the mapping since this place can easily be missed. Great for special-night-out sushi experiences than a casual fill-your-plate kind of place.

O-Ku is one of the best sushi experiences I have ever had. The restaurant is beautiful. The sushi bar looks incredible. Everything the sushi chefs prepare looks and tastes phenomenal. Our server was able to answer all of our questions and recommend how we follow the menu which totally improved our dining experience. At this restaurant you can go at your own pace so you can sort of choose when you want the rolls or the small bites the sashimi or the appetizers to come out and it really helps you pace how much sushi you wanna have. I loved the atmosphere. I loved the sushi. The fish felt and tasted so fresh. I'm still raving about this place to my friends. This is going to be one of my new go to Staples every time I'm in DC.

It doesn't look like too much from the outside, but inside the vibes are high! We sat at the bar which I recommend because it is so entertaining watching the sushi being prepared. The best sushi I probably have ever eaten specifically the snow king roll. 100% worth coming here. I still think about this spot even after I moved away from the DC area.

I will never not rave about this place. The food, the service, the vibes, ALL SO GOOD!!!!! Everything is sooooo yummy and so fresh and the service is always so so pleasant. Bummer that there's no HH on fridays but the price is always worth it -- I've never left feeling hungry, & drinks are great. However the mt Fuji was slightly more crabby than I would've liked but that's a personal preference. Always always will recommend!

The food was pretty good! I would return to try some other menu items. The drinks were on the stronger side. Servers are knowledgeable on the menu items and make good recommendations. Overall nice date night experience.

O-Ku! Wow! My favorite human and I had tried to come before but it was closed, it opens at 5 p.m. everyday of the week. Noted! On Wednesday we made the decision to hop over to Union Market to try it again. Staff were super nice, attentive, and service was superb! Ambiance is sleek, sexy, and a vibe! We met close friends for a couples happy hour date night and it did not disappoint! The Happy Hour menu is limited but it does the job! Overall, we loved it! Rooftop is NICE! I've ventured all through this area and somehow missed O-Ku all these years. Glad I found it thanks to him! Returning VERY SOON! Let's Get Into It! Rock Shrimp - Delicious! Snow King Roll- Yummy! Spicy Salmon Roll- Good! MT Fuji Roll - MY favorite! Short Rob - Delicious! Peso for your thoughts for the WIN! Shogun- Great!

We had a great experience at O-ku! We were seated in the back room at the sushi counter, which was a lot of fun! We tried some of the appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. I really loved the steak skewers they were so tender and flavorful. The sushi rolls were very fresh. They had a lot of options to choose from. We got extra lucky because the waiter offered us some extra rolls that the kitchen was trying to get rid of, and they were really good! So we ended up eating more than we planned. The restaurant has an upscale, trendy vibe. Definitely make a reservation! We had tried to come in twice as a party of two without a reservation and could not get in.

My friend and I made a reservation the day before for 5:45 PM on a Tuesday. We arrived at 5:40 PM and weren't seated until 5:45 PM. We ordered all 5 happy hour rolls: Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, Harvest Roll, Snow King, Tuna Tataki My favorite was the Snow King roll (I love anything with seared salmon) and my friend's favorite was the Tuna Tataki roll. Our least favorite was the Harvest Roll which has goat cheese - I think the goat cheese was a bit overpowering but I was glad to have tried it nonetheless (this was the only roll we didn't finish but we only left 3 pieces behind). My friend and I were busy yapping for the majority of the evening so I wasn't paying the most attention to the food, but I did feel like the rice felt more dry than I'm used to (though that may have been because we took our time eating and it dried over time). We were gifted some crispy rice (I believe it was tuna but not 100% sure) that was my favorite bite of the evening. Love that they ask you what you'd like to add to your water like lemon, lime, and cucumber. Ambiance is indeed great for a date night with the dim (but not too dim!) lighting and luxurious but not obnoxious vibe. I'm curious to check out the rooftop sometime.

    Harvest roll -- great flavors!

Had a marvelous and tasty time at O-ku. When you come in you forget what time of day it is. It's dimly lit which makes for a nice evening mood. We had a wonderful waiter who made good suggestions. My friend and I split: harvest roll (yummm), steak skewers, rock shrimp (yummy!), dumplings and cauliflower!! They come out as they are ready! Will come back to try more!

A cute spot for a slightly fancier dinner or date night, but it probably wouldn't be my first choice. I visited O-Ku for a Sunday dinner with a group of four, and we absolutely loved the ambiance and service. Our server was incredibly friendly, giving us great recommendations and helping us choose the right number of dishes for our group to share and, and the restaurant was gorgeous. They had great ambient lighting and the tables were cozy but not overly close together, creating a really nice romantic, intimate environment. The food was solid, but not amazing, especially for the price. My partner and I split three sushi rolls -- the firecracker roll, yellowtail roll, and tuna roll -- and they were all good. The fish was fresh and I enjoyed both the classic and specialty / unique flavor combinations, but I wasn't wowed by any of the rolls. I found they were assembled a bit sloppily and had too much rice for the amount of fish, which is passable in a more affordable sushi restaurant but a tough sell when each roll is $25+. We also split the kabocha mochi cake for dessert, which had a great springy texture and wasn't overly sweet.

I heard somewhere that his place has food (or drink ) specials after 10? Can anyone confirm what they are? Thanks!!

Their late night menu is still in the works I believe. But from 10pm-12am Thursday-Saturday they are offering $3 off certain rolls, wings, and cocktails to some apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

Tucked into the heart of Dupont Circle with its unmistakable bright blue awning, the restaurant is intimate, moody, and always buzzing. Inside, you'll find dim lighting, a handful of cozy wooden bar booths, seats along the bar, and a few outdoor tables. It's not a huge space, which only adds to its charm and makes every reservation feel like a win. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing dishes and lingering over dinner with friends. The food was incredible...I genuinely loved every single bite. Just be prepared: the Sichuan spice is no joke! If you aren't expecting it, it'll definitely sneak up on you (in the best way). My must-orders? The chili wontons, Dan Dan noodles, and beef noodles. Every dish was packed with bold flavor and left me wanting to come back for more. If you've been trying to score a reservation, keep at it. Astoria is one of those places that's absolutely deserving of its reputation, and I'll be thinking about those noodles until my next visit.

Inside had small tables and a kinda casual cocktail bar vibe Beef Noodles - the highlight and actually very good! The noodles are long and handmade and chewy. They hold onto the sauce very well! The sauce has a slight kick and is very savory. The beef is soft and also flavorful! I feel the price for the portion is kinda expensive though 8/10 Chili wontons - skin is silky and soft, sauce is savory with a small kick as well! Even though the sauces look similar to beef noodle they taste very different. The fillings had good flavor and overall were good but were a bit tougher and dryer than I would prefer. 6/10 Crab fried rice - crab is slightly overcooked but naturally sweet. It has a light curry taste throughout and was pretty good but didn't really stand out 5.5/10 Mapo tofu - slight kick and nice savory taste in the sauce! However I think they cut the tofu pieces way too large or the tofu they chose had way too much tofu flavor that overpowers the sauce. I'd prefer a very light silky tofu but this was a soft tofu. 6/10 Vpod - at first it just tasted like orange juice but then the other flavors peek through on the after taste and when I mixed it more. Even though it was good, it still felt very basic 5/10 Philadelphia Scotsman - it's pretty ginger forward. Technically the level of ginger spice is fine but strong but then the rest of the drink got completely overpowered and so this just wasn't that great 2.5/10

The Sparkling Rosé was phenomenal. The Blck Pnk was on the bitter side, which may be perfect if that's your preference, and I appreciated how thoughtfully crafted it was. The beer was ice cold and crisp. To start, we ordered the mandu and two orders of the chikin. For our mains, we had the pork rib & kimchi fried rice and the dolsot bibimbap. Everything was delicious. My only critique is that some of the dishes could have benefited from just a touch more salt to really make the flavors pop. The restaurant itself is small, quaint, and feels very homey. I loved the family-style setup and how easy it was to share dishes and move things around the table so everyone could try a little of everything. Kanpai is in a prime place along Rockville Pike, but depending on when you go you may find easy parking. (If you're not bothered about where to park, ignore what I just said.) Out front there's something that looks like a tuk-tuk or rickshaw. Tbh, don't know if it's theirs or the business next door. The restaurant itself is clean and elegant. Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was the right call. The toro tacos were a standout -- rich, buttery toro paired with a crisp shell, the kind of bite that balances luxury with a little bit of fun. We rounded things out with several maki rolls, all fresh and well put together, each one distinct enough that ordering a few felt worth it rather than repetitive. Beyond the food, the service made the night -- attentive without being intrusive, which is exactly what you want for a birthday dinner. The ambience matched too: romantic, trendy, dim lighting that made it feel like an occasion without trying too hard. Great pick for a celebration -- between the toro tacos, the maki, and the overall vibe, Shoto delivered on every front.

This is not a space to grab food if you're trying to have a conversation. We often found ourselves yelling across the table and when selecting items to share we crammed ourselves on one side of the booth squishing other patrons. Otherwise this would've been a 5 star review. Our waiter was amazing, albeit a bit distracted at times because of his service area, and helped advise us on the items we were interested in. We had: Koika No Karaage - their version of calamari - 10/10 - lightly fried with the most amazing texture and paired with a yuzu mayo. For the price I wish the serving size was larger but that's my only gripe. Kani - 10/10 - snow crab with spicy mayo - 2 came with the order and they were amazing. The Japanese crest was the perfect contrast to softness of the snow crab. It was also seasoned well. Hotate Toryufu - 10/10 - the scallops melted in your mouth. Amazing. No notes. California Maki - 6/10 - my least favorite thing here. It wasn't awful but it didn't compare to the other things we had. Drinks - I WISH I could remember the name of the drink I had. Hands down one of the best drinks I've ever had and was paired with sparkling sake. Bathe me in sparkling sake, put a bottle in my casket, I want it with me forever. I would come back for sure but would opt to sit at the bar. It would definitely be easier to speak to someone sitting next to you than across from you. For the price you will not get full here but if you want to share some small bites of new food this is absolutely your spot.
