Our family cannot recommend Sunview Gardens highly enough…read more Making the decision to move our mom into assisted living came with so much guilt. Her care had become more than our family could safely provide around the clock, but that didn't make the decision any easier. We visited many assisted living communities and board-and-care homes, and unfortunately, many of them left us feeling discouraged and heartbroken. The moment we walked into Sunview Gardens, it felt completely different. It was warm, welcoming, and truly felt like a home. The residents were beautifully cared for, dressed nicely, with their hair done, and they genuinely seemed happy and comfortable. There was a warmth and positive energy there that we simply hadn't felt anywhere else. Our mom spent the last few years of her life at Sunview Gardens, and looking back, our only regret is that we didn't make the decision sooner. She loved her home there. She made wonderful friends, and most importantly, she was surrounded by caregivers who treated her with genuine love, patience, dignity, and kindness. The owners clearly take great pride in Sunview Gardens, and that care is reflected in everything--from the incredibly clean and well-kept environment to the attention each resident receives. We always felt that our mom was known, valued, and truly cared for as a person, not simply as a resident. If you are struggling with the guilt and worry that can come with moving someone you love into assisted living, I completely understand. We were once in that exact position. Sunview Gardens gave our family peace of mind, and it gave our mom a loving, happy home during the final years of her life. For that, we will always be grateful. Choosing Sunview Gardens was one of the best decisions we made for our mom, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to any family looking for a loving and exceptional place for someone they cherish.

I would give zero stars if I could. Our loved one with Alzheimer's was here for one month. Why?…read moreBecause she got out, mid-day, and no one noticed. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan noticed an elderly woman with a walker headed down Midland St. in Poway. Sunview Gardens was ill-eqipped to care for her. The owner knew she had Alzheimer's and even assessed her! She had no problem opening the gate around the perimeter of the house. It is a very small facility; the staff definitely should have been paying closer attention. In addition, we hired a third party care-giver to stay with her overnight one day/night. This person notified us that a caregiver at Sunview literally yelled at our loved one for coming to the breakfast room before it was time. Stay away from this place if your loved one needs Memory Care.

My father who is in late stage Alzheimer's was in the Pomerado Hospital Geriatric Psych ward for a few weeks and upon his release it was determined that we couldn't bring him back home. He couldn't walk and unfortunately his Alzheimer's had only gotten worse and he had become quite agitated on a regular basis. Upon his release from Pomerado, we began searching for an affordable location in Poway mainly because that's where he's lived for the past 50 years, but also because that's where I live and my mother is close by, but now in Carmel Mountain. Huntington Manor is a very quaint, quiet and peaceful campus. It's surrounded by walkways, gardens and groves which made for a very nice environment and one that we thought my dad would enjoy. I believe it's family owned and all the staff members that I interacted with were all very sweet and patient. My father's residency was very brief as I mentioned because I think he was further into his Alzheimer's than any of us realized and unfortunately his episodes were quite disruptive to the other residents which I understand is not fair for them. We ultimately ended up moving him to Silverado in Escondido who I think is a more appropriate place for him and we'll more suited to tend to his needs, but I appreciate the care that Huntington Manor briefly gave him. I really wish it had worked out.

Although this is not a fancy, big facility, but it has a home feeling. We enjoyed coming here to visit my dad, the garden space is wonderful to sit. Overall it was the perfect choice. I highly recommend this place. Its' got personal touch and residents are well taken cared of. The care quality is more than we expected. Thank you Chris, Wilma, Lynn for taking care of my dad.

Recovering from a fall and shoulder surgery, I was incorrectly told that the facility offered rehabilitation. It does not. A note from my doctor indicating that I could move around on my own with a walker was treated with scorn. The owner was far more concerned with liability, than finding ways to help me get better. after a time I was able to get some staff members to Monitor me as I pushed myself to move around with a walker. except for an administrator who can dispense medications, staff are largely untrained and uncertified (ie not LVN or RN ) couples or associates from the Philippines. The pharmacy used by this place can be difficult: it took a week for it to send me my medications. patients may do better using vons pharmacy and or bringing in their own medications. There is no RN on duty. The overall impression is that there are never enough staff on duty. The speed of call button requests for help can very quite a bit. occasionally the response to a call button request is almost immediate, but at other times a press of the call button produces no response at all. breakfast consists of a choice between oatmeal and waffles and or eggs. In addition, patients are fed hospital style food at approximately 11 am and 4 pm. free juices are typically limited to orange juice and cranberry juice. Patients are prepared for bed by 6 pm and discouraged from making any call button requests after 8 pm. Morning Care for patients begins at 5 am, so night persons like me will find the daily routine very difficult. and real rest hard to come by. Those looking for a place for loved ones at the last stages of their lives may find what they need. But I would strongly advise looking for and evaluating other options before choosing Gate Manor in San Diego.

I am a registered nurse, and my standards are high. We have been very pleased with all of the staff, the caregivers and the leadership--as well as the activities and the meals. My mom loves being able to choose her meals (with help) from a menu. Everyone has been caring and have gone out of their way to be helpful to my mom. My mom has had several medical issues recently that required hospitalization. Both times the staff recognized my mom needed medical attention and acted on her needs appropriately. Not only that, they sent her a get well card with personal notes from the staff, and several of them have called to check and see how she's doing. I cannot tell you the peace of mind I have knowing that my mom is safe, well cared for and ENJOYING her life at Silvergate. We visit frequently (almost daily) and have never encountered anyone that wasn't kind or helpful. The staff always make you feel as if you and your loved one are important. Silvergate has also incorporated several family activities into their activity calendar (summer dinner on the patio with family) etc. Highly recommended Silvergate if you're looking for kind, compassionate and active memory where your loved one can enjoy their moments and activities. The facility and surroundings are modern and beautiful.

Although the facility is VERY nice, I was really surprised to see he was given a plate with several different types of foods mixed together. He kept asking what this was and what that was, and then he refused to eat. What really surprised me was that this is a facility that caters to older people. Gee, doesn't everyone know that children and very elderly people don't like their foods all mixed together? People like to identify what they're eating and the person who has dementia can't remember what all the foods are (and that they're safe to eat) if you can't identify them. It's just too confusing and it's one more bump in the road they don't deserve!

We arrived a few mins before our appointment which was at 10am, no one was there. We waited for over 30 mins, called all the numbers on the business cards with no luck getting through to anyone, even the main business card number was disconnected! In addition we saw business cards for Pacifica, thinking maybe they were affiliated which they are not, the individual I spoke with had no idea what Legacy Hills at Poway was. I can't begin to express my disappointment. We even asked a few residents and they said no one is ever at the front desk. Not to mention the tools left parking lot including a table saw!! Over the last 2 years, things have completely changed. There is never anyone at the front desk. If you do find someone, they are unable or unwilling to help any residents. The lobby is filthy, and the property is run down. The worst part of all- they make you believe that if a resident pulls their emergency cord- something will be done. Ha! The alarms are constantly beeping at the front desk and no one cares. Don't rely on anyone checking on you or your loved ones. Resident's packages are left at the front door or on the ground and no one will notify you. The washers don't work and the cards that you have to use don't work. The front desk's answer to this is to call the card company - who never answers the phone! I haven't been able to do my laundry here in a year. There are smokers who sit outside of our windows, and no one will do anything about it. You are welcome to come see the decrepit thread bare flags on the flag posts welcoming you in!
